X issues - no xrandr scale after Xorg update (MBP Retina)

Hi,
I just did a full update (2014-08-16) through pacman, which included an Xorg server update (1.15.2-1 -> 1.16.0-6). My previous full update had been just over a month ago (2014-07-08).
On logging in, KDE basically was running incredibly slowly (ie: clicking the KMenu button would only result in it opening after a few minutes, and this would get no quicker as time went on - it was basically unusable). Moving out my .kde4 directory and letting it be recreated solved this (I haven't had a chance to go through and work out exactly what setting was causing the issue yet).
More importantly. because this is on a MacBook Retina Pro (MacBookPro10,x) - I need to be able to scale the screen to make everything appear at reasonable sizes.
Previously I had an xrandr script running on startup which just ran "xrandr --output eDP-1 --scale 0.666667x0.666667" - which was a good size to view everything at.
The problem is now everytime I run xrandr --scale, the screen goes blank (slightly grey colour) - and I am unable to restore it (even ctrl+alt+F1 doesn't work to get to a console) - resulting in a hard reboot.
I've tried downgrading all of the X related components to the versions I had pre the upgrade, but I still have the same issue...

[2014-08-16 16:46] [PACMAN] downgraded nouveau-dri (10.2.5-1 -> 10.2.2-1)
Any ideas what the next troubleshooting steps would be? I'm using the Nouveau driver, and at this point I'm basically stuck. I'm also wondering whether the previous KDE issues were related to the X issues.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • X does not start automatically after xorg update (1.16)

    Hello,
Yesterday after a system update and a reboot, my screen stayed desperatly black. Then I logged in to a console as root and started X by doing:
    systemctl isolate multi-user.target
    systemctl isolate graphical.target
This means root can start X. So I created the file /etc/X11/Xwrapper.config:
    allowed_users = anybody
    needs_root_rights = yes
but no change. I'm using the Intel GPU (xf86-video-intel driver).
    Any idea?

  • Photo issue on iPhone 4 after iOS5 update

Since i have updated my White iPhone 4 to iOS5 some of my apps pictures dont appear just the text underneath them. I thought nothing of this at first as after a while they do appear but then others will dissapear!
I tried to use the camera and i can take pictures but if i try to load the camera roll from either the camera app or photos app it will not allow me to view them. In the camera app the photos are also black.
Any assistance would be much appreciated!
    Thanks
    Steve

I´ve got the exact same problem as well. Via photo stream I can get my pictures to my computer and my iPad and they look fine. And in the iPhone they look ok if I choose "Edit", but the previews are low res or just grey boxes, or duplicates of other images.
Via photo stream I can copy the images to my computer to save them. But since movies don´t go into photo stream, and I cant see anything on my Iphone via iPhoto or "Image capture" they will be lost if Apple doesn´t solve this problem (I´ve succeded to e-mail them to me, but then they are compressed and lores).
This happened to me a couple of days after I updated to iOS5, so it worked just fine for a couple of days before this problem appeared.
I really hope Apple will address this issue very soon, since I (and many with me) use my iPhone as my only camera.
I´ve got an iPhone 4 (my wifes iPhone 3GS has not yet shown any signs of this problem).

  • [Solved-ish] problem with autologin after xorg update

    Hi
I use auto login like described on "Automatic login to virtual console", with the exception that i login as user on VT7 rather than VT1.
Then execute startx on VT7 from zprofile, as shown in Start X at Login.
After updating xorg this morning, I was on VT1 after boot. The screen was kind of blinking once a second, and totally unresponsive.
Booting from the install image on an USB-stick, I commented startx in ~/.zprofile.
After that I was again on VT1 but able to login and then run startx on VT1. Later I found out that I had a login on VT7 and was able to run startx there as well.
Why wouldn't startx run automatically, when it runs fine manually.
    This is my [email protected]/autologin.conf
    nagual% cat [email protected]/autologin.conf
    [Service]
    ExecStart=
    ExecStart=-/sbin/agetty --autologin leo --noclear %I 38400 linux
    Type=simple
startx is run from zprofile with:
    #[[ -z $DISPLAY && $XDG_VTNR == 7 ]] && exec startx -- vt$XDG_VTNR
could it be because the display doesn't change to VT7, and why would an xorg update change that?

mrunion wrote:When the upgrade to xorg-server occurred there was a warning about X starting on the appropriate VT. There was also news on the Arch Linux front page (https://www.archlinux.org/news/xorg-ser … available/). You may want to read that news and then look into an xorg.wrap file if necessary.
Thanks. I did see this. As far as I can tell, it shouldn't matter in my case, but of course I could be wrong. I'm starting X on VT7, same as the login. I don't do any redirecting of stderr.
And it is very curious that auto login is affected.

  • [SOLVED] Keyboard layout changed to English after xorg update

    Hello all,
I just logged in to my Arch box after a few days of not using it, and issued
    pacman -Syu
and upgraded, among others, xorg-server and xorg-server-common to versions 1.11.1-2. Now, after logging out and back in to restart X, I find that my keyboard layout is now (presumably American) English. However, looking under Menu -> Settings -> Keyboard in the XFCE menu, I still see the preferred layout set to Norwegian, as I want. Messing with the settings in this GUI seems to have no effect. However,
    setxkbmap no
still works. Anybody experience something similar or have any hints?

  • [SOLVED] KDEmod problem after Xorg Update

    Hi!
Before explain my problem, I have to say that my english isn't perfect, sorry ^_^ (i'm spanish).
    Ok, let's go:
One week ago, I updated my system and Xorg was updated too, since that update my KDEmod restarts always. I read the kdm.log, and it says something about the RGBPath, then I went to my xorg.conf and comment that line.
After that, I could start my X with Gnome, but when I tried with KDEMod, it says "the module Record doesn't exist", I was searching about this module, and I saw that in xorg.conf there was a line that load this module. I also comment it too.
Now, when I try to start KDE, it loads, and when in the splashscreen appears the "K", if I click the mouse then appears my Desktop for 3 or 4 seconds, after that, KDE restarts and splashscreen loads another time, so i'm in a bucle. BTW, if i don't click the mouse, it also restarts after 7 or 8 seconds that K is "load", and begin the bucle loading kde with the splash screen too.
    kdm.log doesn't return an error.
What do you think about that?.
    Thanks!
    EDIT:
I forgot something: another error that I had is with "libGLcore", it said: "libGLcore.177" and "libGLcore.180" have the same name but different file type (or something like that). I fix with the re-install of the manual nvidia drivers.]
    =================================================================
    FIX
    writte in konsole:
    nvidia-xconfig
    THen add to xorg.conf
    Section "ServerFlags"
    OPtion "AutoAddDevices" "False"
    EndSection
    And then, I fix it.

  • [SOLVED] KDE won't start after Xorg update(nvidia driver)

After update, I disabled hotplug, with :
    Section "ServerFlags"
    Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
    EndSection
kdm starts normally, i can write login/password, i see kde boot splash, then desktop shows and after about 10 secs it is killed and goes back to login screen.
I think the problem is with hal, because (Xorg.0.log):

Well, I rebuilded my xorg.conf with
    Xorg -configure
and it started working, even with evdev driver, just had to add
    Option "AllowEmptyInput" "False"
in section "ServerFlags". I'm not really sure what caused that error.

  • Laptop lid closed freezes the system after xorg update

Hello! After the recent xorg-server update one of the problems I got was that when I close the lid of my laptop (it is configured to turn off the screen) the system just freezes and the screen never turns on again... I try to change TTY, press ctrl-alt-bkspc, even press 1 time the poweroff button (that usually shuts down the system gently) but nothing happens. Anyone with the same problem?

Interestingly enough, on a fresh boot, Xorg runs in tty8, instead of running in the usual tty7. It also takes very long to come up after the boot sequence. Could it be that it's crashing and then running another instance immediately after?
    Anybody else have something similar?

  • Email issues on iPhone 3GS after OS4 update

    Hi,
I updated my firmware to OS4 yesterday, and my email has been on the blink since then.
Basically, whenever I check my email, I get stuck on the "Connecting..." display forever. The phone never checks my mailboxes, it's just eternally "Connecting..."
The only way I've gotten around this is by turning off the phone, then turning it back on. Once I do that, the phone collects the mail - but only ONCE. After that, it goes back on the endless "Connecting..." loop.
What's the problem? I never had this issue with the last firmware. Just as of yesterday. I have three email accounts on my iPhone - but like I said, the old firmware handled all of them without issue.
Any answers would be greatly appreciated.

I had two users that were unable to get email from Microsoft Exchange 2003 on their iPhone 3GS after upgrading to iOS 4. One other user, however, had no problems after the upgrade. The only difference was that the user with his email functioning had minimal messages in his Inbox.
So for the two other users, I archived email messages to reduce their Inboxes from around 13,000 messages to below 2,500 messages. Once I did this, email started flowing through just fine. I did this to the Sent Items as well, and it worked too. I would give that a try.

  • [SOLVED]Two finger scrolling/tapping stoped working after xorg update

Hi everyone, i updated my system yesterday to the new xorg server (1.11.1-2). Everything works except for the two finger scrolling on my synaptics touchpad.
    There is some info:
    Kernel:  3.0.6-2 (stock)
    Synaptics Touchpad driver: 1.5.0-1 (lastest)
Right side scrolling works fine, two or three finger tapping doesn't work either.
    Here's my Xorg.log:

  • Issue with IE images after FP Update

Good afternoon and thanks for reading.
I have a few machines (so far) which are having issues displaying some images through Internet Explorer following the FP update.  The images show up as a white box with a red "X".
If the user account(s) have Admin rights they are able to see the images.  If I return them to Standard User only the image problem reoccurs.
    I have tried the following:
    - Uninstalling FP (utility) as Administrator
    - Reinstalling FP .exe  as Administrator
    Standard User cannot see images
    - Uninstalling FP (utility) as user with Administrator rights
    - Reinstalling FP (download and .exe) as user with Administrator rights
    * As user with Administrator Rights the user can see images.
    * Remove Administrator Rights the user can no longer see images
Computers are Windows XP SP2 (32-bit)
Flash Player (from installation file): 10.1.53.64
Internet Explorer 7.0.5730 (note: the IE Logo at the top of the "About" window is not showing up either)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
    Michael

    Update:
I have applied SP3 to Windows XP and also ran Windows Update; I then had to uninstall Flash Player (using the utility) - then reinstall as the user with administrator rights.
Once I removed administrator rights and logged on as a standard user I was able to view images normally.
I will try this one more time, but hopefully a solution has been located.

I searched and got my keyboard and touchpad set up to work with hotplugging. Keyboard worked, touchpad did not. Any configuration changes I made dont get reconginzed. I dont know what the deal is unfortunately

  • Email issues on Pantch Breakout after OS update

I just purchased a Pantech Breakout.  I had set up my e-mail accounts (gmail, hotmail, and yahoo) and everything was replicating fine.  The OS updated and suddenly replication stopped.  I tried deleting the accounts and re-adding them, but on re-add, they no longer sync.  When trying to connect, it sits and "spins".  Yes - the username and password entered is correct.
Since I just bought it, I am still in the period of return - although I'd rather not have to pay money to return a non-working device.  But if I can't get e-mail on my smart phone, what's the point.
Any help out there?  I'm giving it one more day before I go back to Verizon and ask for my money back for a defective device.

    Hello djo1300
That's not supposed to happen with the email. Let's work together and get this fixed. You shouldn't have to pay any money to return a defective device. I'm sure we can get this addressed for you.
Is background data and sync checked? To check this go to: Menu> Setting> Accounts & Sync> then check background data. From that screen please tap on each email account and make sure sync is checked then retest.
Are you able to use the browser on the device? Is Wifi turned on? If so please turn Wifi off and retest. Please remove the battery and sim card for 15 seconds, reinsert and power on the device. Does the email sync now?
Did this start after a particular application was downloaded? If so please remove and retest. Please back up the device with gmail and perform a hard reset. Here's a link for the reset: http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=45472
Please let me know if this helps, if not I would be glad to further troubleshoot with you.
    Thank you
