X-Modem CE / Airport Express Firmware 6.3

Apple have released a new update to the Airport Express Firmware
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airportexpressfirmwareupdate63formacosx.h tml
The New updated v6.3 has corrected a bug introduced with v6.2 that prevented the Express from talking to the X-Modem CE properly. X-Modem users who have updated to 6.2 are advised to update to 6.3 and anyone who went back to 6.11 can now safely update to 6.3.
Mac OS X (10.3.9)   I work for ADSL Nation

I can vouch for this (see my earlier post) and everything working fine with the X-Modem CE.
Thanks also to ADSL Nation for keeping us posted on these boards for the problems with the previous update.
Cheers

  • Connecting wireless modem and airport express

I currently run internet with an old Motoirola Sideboard cable modem and Airport Express - previous version. All runs well. Now my Optus provider has upgraded my service with a Premium account for higher speed. They have also given me a free wi fi Cisco modem - DPQ3925. How can I replace my old Motorola modem and still maintain Air play etc with my new modem using Airport Express. I need to know exactly wire per wire help - please, if possible - Thanks

    Hi - I have a similar issue.
I have a new macbook pro, ATV (3rd Gen) and AXn (purely for Airplay of itunes).
All three are wirelessly connected to my HG556a Huawei WiFi Router.
The Macbook pro and ATV work fine and can see each other for airplay mirroring and itunes.
The AX connects and comes up in Airport Utility (AU) and itunes shortly after you turn it on, but if you either dont use it or stop using it and switch to ATV or whatever it dissapears from itunes and AU says it cant find it. Randomly the light on the AX stays green the whole time.
I have to switch the AX off and on to get it back working again (i.e. itunes and AU can see it).
Following other forum posts I've set the AX up by hard connecting it to my router, setting a static iP and reserving ports 5353 and 3689 to that address. I've also turned off ipv6 or whatever using the networksettings Terminal code string. I have also repaired permissions with disk utility!
It still dissapears from available options in iTunes and AU. ideas?

  • Clicking sound originating from Airport Express firmware 7.5.2 and later

    Hello,
I have submitted a bug report through Apple Developer Connection (I am a registered developer). By posting this here I want to get support for our case: Make Apple fix the Airport Express firmware.
    Summary:
The Airport Express device has a bug which appeared first in version 7.5.2. It produces a "clicking" sound when using AirPlay to transport music from an iPhone or a Mac, when certain frequencies are being played. This is not depending on the attached amplifier or headphones, digital or analog output, network settings (network created by Airport Express or not), Mac or iPhone used, audio cable or power supply involved or due to bad quality of the sound file played. The problems are not there when audio is played directly from a Mac or an iPhone through headphones or optical out. We and my colleagues (developers and audophiles) have ruled out all the other options. The problem boils down to a change in the Airports firmware starting with 7.5.2. In 7.4.2 the clicking sound is not there.
    Steps to Reproduce:
Play the following song via AirPlay on an Airport Express device having firmware 7.5.2 or higher. The Airport Express being used in our tests is the model produced from March 2008 – June 2012. Attach high fidelity headphones (like Bowers & Wilkins P5, which we used) to Airport Express. Alternatively use a very good amplifier/loundspeaker setup. We also reproduced the bug for example on an Onkyo A-9070 amplifier with both optical and analog connection - there is no difference there. The loudspeakers we used are passive Dynaudio X12.
Play track no. 6 from the "Songs without words" album: http://itunes.apple.com/de/album/lieder-ohne-worte-op.-67-no.-2/id209380163?i=20 9381206
Listen to this solo piano piece carefully for at least 40 seconds. You will notice a clicking sound with high frequencies. This clicking is *not* there in firmwares 7.4.2 and earlier.
    Expected Results:
Perfect audio quality as in firmware 7.4.2 and earlier.
    Actual Results:
Reproducible clicking sounds in high frequencies.
    Regression:
This problem appeared first in Airport Express firmware 7.5.2 and has not been fixed yet. It can also be observed in the current version of Apple TV (as of September 16th).
    Notes:
This issue, while not being recognized by the casual listener, makes AirPlay unusable for critical listening - at least when using any firmware after 7.4.2. I would love to use the current firmware (which produces a much more stable connection), but I (and other audiophile AIrplay users) would love to see this issue fixed first.
Here is a thread that concludes - as we did - that Airport firmware 7.5.2 and later is the source of the problem. It is not the hardware, neither Apple's, nor the connected devices:

    Hope this helps!

I'm having the exact same problem. As a classical music lover, this is driving me nuts. It's especially noticable in soft passages in the music, when the volume is turned up high. When the dynamics increase, the little pops/clicks appear (they sound a bit like static noise, as someone stated earlier in this thread). It happens at irregular intervals. When you play pop music, the clicks will disappear (drown) in the music. But for true audiophiles who listen mainly to jazz and classical music this is a severe problem.
I have checked everything and it's definitely an airplay issue. My apple lossless files are 100% okay and play without any problem, except when streamed via airplay. Also, it makes no difference whether you use the analogue or the optical ouptut from the airport express.
I've created a sine frequency sweep myself in Adobe Audition, from 20 Hz up to 20000 Hz with a duration of 25 seconds and a level of -6 dB.
When played through airplay, the clicks always start to appear after 4 seconds in the sweep, only to disappear at 23 seconds.
The clicks manifest themselves at different volume levels. To my ears, they make the same sound as when you change the volume in iTunes when streaming music through airplay. Only when you set the volume in iTunes extremely low, the clicks will disappear.
Apple engineers should use a frequency sweep to recreate the problem, as this is very revealing.
PS: file format isn't an issue here. I've converted the Apple Lossless file to MP3, and it makes no difference at all.

  • Wireless modem and Airport Express.. one at a time

Recently my internet provider upgraded my old plug in modem to a newer wireless model. Now it seems that the current setting allow communication with only one or the other at the same time. If I want to be online with the wireless modem and send my iTunes music via Airport Express to my sound system, no dice. I have to either click on the modem up in the Airport choices to be online and listen to iTunes through the computer speakers, or go offline to listen to music through the sound system and Airport Express.
I'm sure I'm just missing something in preferences or settings somewhere.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks, and Happy New Year!

  • Using TimeCapsule with a Comcast modem AND Airport Express. Way slower after updates! What's up?

I've been running this set up for two years now without a hitch.  Comcast Modem to TimeCapsule by Ethernet.  Then TimeCapsule to Airport Express via WiFi.  It used to work great because my TC was far away from my family room and the AE extended my network flawlessly.
After Mavericks and IOS 7.06 installations on my devices (iMac, Macbook Air,  iPhone, and iPad) my wifi seems to be moving at half speed.  I've rebooted the Comcast Modem and  TimeCapsule. I guess I should reboot airport express as well.  But I doubt thats the problem.  I was thinking of asking Comcast to change out Modems but this is a new problem only since updates. What should I do?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Marylyn

Power off the entire network.....all devices....computers, printers, modem, TC, mobile devices, etc
    Wait a few minutes
Start the modem first, and let it run a few minutes by itself
Start the TC next and let it run a full minute
Keep starting devices one a time about a minute apart until the entire network is powered back up
    Check the network

  • Vonage between cable modem and Airport Express is a problem

I have my Comcast cable modem connected via Ethernet to the Vonage box which is connected via Ethernet cable to my Airport Express. When I try to connect wirelessly via my Powerbook it's a crapshoot whether or not I can connect to the internet. Mostly the quality is very poor if you can connect at all. If I cut the Vonage out of the equation hooking the cable modem to the Airport Express it works perfect. So Vonage is my problem and I need to change some settings either with my computer or my Airport Express, but which ones? I've been given several different ideas from the information I've sifted through (i.e. change the DNS, change the sharing prefs, get a hard wired router). Oddly enough an old HP computer I have in the basement connected to the internet via another Airport Express has no problems with connection at all. If someone could let me know which of these fixes I am preparing to try would work the best I would appreciate it.

Interesting. So you have two Airport Express devices configured into a WDS, with the one upstairs functioning as the main base station and the one downstairs functioning as a remote base station. And your PC downstairs connected to the remote base station has no problems connecting to the internet. Is that PC cabled to the Airport Express, or does it connect wirelessly to the remote Airport Express?
What happens if you bring the Powerbook downstairs to where the PC now resides. Does the Powerbook then get the same great internet connection as the PC?

  • Belkin wireless modem and Airport Express lan problems

Let me preface my problem by stating the obvious - I'm not very technically proficient!
That said, I've had an AirPort Express wireless lan connecting three computers on my home/office network for the past 8 months without any problems at all. All machines on the network have been able to access the internet via a Thomson SpeedTouch 530 ADSL1 modem that connects via an ethernet cable to the AirPort Express. No problems.
The network consists of my G5 iMac (ALS), my husband's Mac mini and my Sony VAIO laptop (XP Pro SP2).
I should also mention that half-way between my office and my husband's office there is a second AirPort Express that 'boosts' the signal to his office.
I recently changed ISPs to a provider that offers the faster ADSL2+ service. This meant that I had to get a new Belkin ADSL2+ modem. This is my problem. I cannot connect my AirPort Express network to the internet using the Belkin modem. The Belkin modem connects without any problem if I just have it connected via ethernet to my iMac but that's not what I want to do.
My existing AirPort details are -
    IPv4 Address: 10.0.1.3
Router 10.0.1.1 (this is the SpeedTouch 530 modem)
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
I thought I could change the new modem's address(?terminology?) from 10.1.1.1 (which is how it came) to 10.0.1.3 and that everything would work but it doesn't.
Belkin tech support said 'the problem is with your AirPort Express' (what else would they say)?
Do I have to keep the 10.1.1.1 and change my AirPort addresses? Or should I try to set up a new network?

  • Wireless Modem and Airport Express USB Printer

I am already connected to the internet via a wireless modem provided by my ISP. The connection uses Airport. I just purchased an Airport Express to connect my computer to a printer through the USB port. However, I can't get the airport utility to connect to the Airport Express solely for the purpose of connecting to the printer. I have tried to make the new aiport express both a new network and part of an existing wireless network with no sucess. I sitll have a flashing yellow light on my Airport Express. I have not connected the wireless modem to the Airport Express. Do I have to connect the airport express to the modem? Help!

    Hi Andrew Otis:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You'll need to configure your AE via the Airport Admin Utility to Join an Existing Wireless Network, then select the name of your network in the drop down box or enter it EXACTLY as the SSID is broadcasting your network Name. You may also have to configure wireless security if you wireless modem has that enabled.
    I hope this helps!

  • Can anyone recommend an ethernet modem for AirPort Express?

Well I think I want an ethernet modem as I don't know the differences between those and routers or whatever. I just want to access my broadband ADSL Demon account wirelessly with my AirPort Express. I'm currently 'using' an XBridgeDSL bought from the Apple store, but it's proving unreliable (I constantly have to reset it by turning the power on and off). The only other one Apple sell which seems suitable is the D-Link but that apparently only works if one computer is using the connection. Any ideas?

The only true Ethernet Modem that passes the IP address to the Express is the X-Modem but unfortunately it is as yet still not available due to manufacturing delays. However you can use an ADSL Router by switching off the distribute IP addresses in the Airport Express. The only down side to that is that you may have to configure port forwarding rules in the router if you want to do iChat AV conferencing etc.

  • Using old modem as airport express

i am thinking of getting an airport extreme and was wondering if i could use my old netgear modem to act a an airport express, having one upstairs and one downstairs, extending the range and signal of my network. Thanks in advance.

was wondering if i could use my old netgear modem to act a an airport express, having one upstairs and one downstairs, extending the range and signal of my network.
Yes....if you connect the AirPort Extreme and Netgear router using a wired Ethernet connection.
No....if you try to connect the AirPort Extreme and Netgear router using wireless only.

  • Best Compatible Ethernet Modem for Airport Express

Hi, I'm thinking about buying an AirPort Express. I've had one before but it broke. I used it in conjunction with a D-Link modem however it would not work well if i was running more than one computer. Basically I just want a modem that is easy to set up and works great. Any Ideas?
    Thanks

Hi Thanks for your reply. Basically I want to create a wireless network with the airport express to run more than one computer off. so what else would I need? Previously I used the airport express and a D-Link 300-T ADSL Modem. However I had trouble running more than one computer off it.

  • What to use as an ADSL modem for Airport Express/Extreme?

I am in the UK.  My broadband comes down the telephone line.  What modem should I use to connect to an Airport Express or Airport Extreme router?

My ISP is Demon, which is now owned by Vodafone.  I telephoned Demon and was told (a) that it only supplies the Technicolor TG582n as a courtesy (b) that it supplies no other hardware (c) that I might be able to make the TG582n work in bridge mode but that Demon provides no support for that - meaning no help or advice either (d) that any router bought off-the-shelf in the UK which supports ADSL 2+ will be compatible with Demon's service and (e) that any modem which supports ADSL 2+ should also therefore work.  Pressed by me for the names of routers that other clients of Demon's use, I was told that these included routers manufactured by Netgear, Cisco and Draytek but that this is not an exhaustive list.
In summary, Demon says that any off-the-shelf modem that supports ADSL 2+ should work.
To return to the question that I first asked, therefore, I would be grateful if anyone can give me the names of any ADSL 2+ modems which work optimally with Airports Express or Extreme.
If anyone reading this post has any experience they can share, that would be very kind and much appreciated.
If any ADSL 2+ modem will do as well as another, it would be helpful to know that also.

  • Problem after 6.3 Airport Express Firmware Update

I recently purchased Airport Express to serve strictly as an audio conduit. It was working well, when received a notice while installing software that there was an update available (6.3). I downloaded the update and install it wirelessly to my Airport Express. After doing so an rebooting, my iBook could not find it. I uninstalled and reinstalled software and the result was the same.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
    G4 iBook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Same problem here! It's exasperating because now iTunes 8 has stopped all flow of music to my speakers forcing an upgrade of firmware for AE to 6.3, but the firmware upgrade crashes... so... we're screwed.
Thought I'd chime in so we can maybe get some attention on this issue. Just release a raw upgrade and we'll do it ourselves?
    Something?
This is so annoying. All of this music and iTunes has it all hijacked.

  • Can i connect a modem to airport express

Can i connect amodem to airport express...?

Sorry, but no adapter will make up for the fact that the AirPort Express...or any other Apple router....will not work with a USB modem.
You will need something like this:
