  • Form 6i on Motif on Solaris

    Hi expert:
    I am urgent to know whether
    Form developer 6i supports multilanguage on Solaris Motif?

    Hey Frank, how would you do this redirect? Do you have any links or documentation that can help on this redirection...
    Thanks.
    Hi,
    no, there is no way to do this. However, you can
    redirect requests fr Oracle Forms 6i through OracleAs
    10g to OracleAs 9i (with Forms 6i). Given that Forms
    6i is at the end if its support cycle, I suggest
    considering to upgrade

  • Which version of Motif and X11 on Solaris 8

    Would anyone know how to find the version number for X11 and Motif on Solaris 8?
    I am looking for a SUN/UNIX command that confirms that Solaris 8 is using X11R6.4.
    uname -a reveals:
    SunOS sunstro02 5.8 ....... SUNW, Ultra-5_10
    Mazikati

    The version of X11 on Solaris 8 is X11R6.4. I don't know where that information is embedded in
    the OS, but it is listed in the "What's New in the Solaris 8 Operating Environment" which
    can be found on docs.sun.com.
    The Motif version is based on The Open Group's version 2.1.

  • Solaris 8 - Motif, Xbae apps ZPR with purify or Bus error

    The application runs under 5.6 but after compiling and running on 5.8, I receive a Bus Error or when running purify receive a ZPR & COR. The c program is receiving the error during widget creation:
    tbl = XtVaCreateManagedWidget
    ("tbl",

    Purify outputs this message:

  • Report Engine crashing on Solaris when report with graph is given.

    Hi,
    We are using following environment:
    Solaris 8
    Oracle 9i Report Sevices.
    When we try to execute reports having graphs then the report engine crashes with the following exception:
    REP-0177: Error while running in remote server
    REP-56048: Engine rwEng-0 crashed
    The complete crash log is also appendend in the end of this mail.
    When I remove the graph from the rdf then reports get exectued fine without any crash. The same rdg with graph works fine on windows NT.
    If somebody can help on this, it will be great.
    Thanks,

    Please try the following
    * Modify $ORACLE_HOME/bin/reports.sh, replace "classic"
    with "server" in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH for the JVM
    * Modify $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rwengine.sh, just before the exec
    command, insert the following line:
    export LD_PRELOAD=$ORACLE_HOME/jdk/jre/lib/i386/libawt.so
    In Linux there was a similar problem and the above workaround worked . You can give this a try .
    Thanks

  • AWT error on Solaris, please help

    Hello all,
    I have designed a class to convert any picture format to WBMP using Jimi via a web browser.
    The user specifies the file to convert on his computer and presses a OK button. Then, the file is converted and saved to
    the server.
    When running it on a windows computer, everything is ok. But I try to run it on my solaris box, I got the following error :
    Error: 500
    java.lang.InternalError: Can't connect to X11 window server using ':0.0' as the value of the DISPLAY variable.

    Hi
    I am working on a project in which I have to perform a task some thing similar to bluemountain.com. the way, they give option to select a background image, then have to fill a form in which one type its message and then on preview, they can see an image having the text written on it.
    Now I am doing to do this thing using JIMI. So far, what I have done is, I was able to create a jpg file and write several text on different coordinates. But one thing I want to do is, I want to load an existing file and then write text on it. I have tried this code. public static void main(String[] ar)
    try
    Frame frame = new Frame();
    frame.addNotify();
    Image image = frame.createImage(100,30);
    Graphics graphic = image.getGraphics();
    graphic.setFont(new Font("Times New Roman",Font.BOLD,20));
    graphic.setColor(Color.black);
    graphic.drawString("Hi Buddy",10,20);
    graphic.drawString("Cool",50,25);
    Jimi.putImage("image/jpg",image,"try.jpg");
    frame.removeNotify();
    catch(Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    This is the code which creates a new image whereas I want to load an existing image and then write text on it.
    I have already used this code in the upper code.
    Image image = Jimi.getImage("filename");
    But as response, I get the following error msg:
    java.lang.IllegalAccessError:
    getGraphics() only valid for images
    created with createImage(w, h)
    now this is the main problem when I am trying to do the stuff. I m kinda new into this stuff. I tried several things but no luck so far. I have seen that u have already worked on these kinda things so thought you might help me out to get the thing done. Please do reply me with some solution.
    Regards,
    Faisal

    Here is the code where I am calling the html cleaner method. This works fine in a Windows env but fails in Solaris. If I comment out the call to removeHtml(value).trim it will work. It will even work if I make a different call removeHtml("string to strip") from the main method. Why would it work in one place but not the other in Solaris, and why would it always work in Windows? Does anybody have any ideas?

    You are probably running on a Solaris 2.6 machine whcih Java 1.4 no longer supports.
    The motif 1.2 support was removed due to some sort of security problem.
    I managed to resolve this my making a symbolic link from motif21 to motif12
    and coping a /usr/dt/lib/libXm.so.4 from a solaris 8 machine. A Solaris 9 version
    has more dependancyed in the motif library and was abandoned.
    I know Its about a year late in my response, but I figured other may have a simular problem.

  • NO FDISK OPTION DURING SOLARIS 8 INSTALLATION

    I tried to install Solaris 8 on a Dell Optiplex GXM500 desktop and it failed midway with the following message
    "NO DISKS THAT MEET THE CRITERIA IN THE SOLARIS INSTALLER DOCUMENTATION FOUND. CHECK YOUR CONFIGURATION OR SELECT ANOTHER INSTALLATION OPTION"
    It did not give the option to fdisk the hard disk to create Solaris partitions. There is no problem with the hardware as all the hardware, including the hard disk (30 GB) was correctly indentified by the Solaris installer.
    Please help. Thanks in advance!

    Booting from the DCA floppy and loading the installation
    solaris OS from the "Software 1 of 2" cdrom has the same
    effect as directly booting from the "Software 1 of 2" cdrom.
    It's the installer on the "Software 1 of 2" cdrom that
    matters. It's the old and proven motif/openwindows
    installer that allows more control over the installation
    process and at the same time has less restrictions
    (compared to the new java based webstart installer you
    find on the "installation" cdrom).

  • Solaris 2.6 to Solaris 8

    Hi,
    we have deliver a Motif 1.2 application to a customer a few years ago. This application is currently running under Solaris 2.6 on IBM PC computer (Pentium II), is built using X11R6 and is using MWM.
    Now this customer is replacing the old computers by new SUN Blade 150 and would like us to port our application to run on these new machines with Solaris 8.
    I'm trying to figure out the details of this port. Anyone has been through something similar? Is it as simple as recompiling the application under Solaris 8? Where can I find more information about this?
    Thanks in advance...
    Luc Leblanc

    To make sure the upgrade does not touch the mountpoints you mention, I would recommend that you comment them out of the /etc/vfstab file before the upgrade.
    RE: the HP software. You will need to check with HP to see if that version of that software is compatible with Solaris 8. The Solaris upgrade should not modify this software, but that does not guarantee it will work under Solaris 8.
    Solaris 8 does not have seperate upgrade and full versions. Any Solaris 8 media kit can be used to do an initial or upgrade installation.
    If you have sunsolve access, I recommend looking for infodoc 16141, which has a list of general suggestions to help insure the Solaris OS is upgradable.
    Something else to look at is the LiveUpgrade program. This allows you to make a copy of your current OS, upgrade the copy, and verify that its functionality meets your needs. If the upgrade is does not function as you hope, you can easily go back to the previous version of Solaris. More info can be found at http://docs.sun.com/?p=/doc/806-7933

  • Different X behaviour between Solaris 2.6 and 8

    Hi,
    We have recently upgraded a development box to Solaris 8 from 2.6. We have recompiled (same compiler) an application with no changes... and we get different behaviour. There are two problems that we are tracking so far:
    1. Buttons don't seem to be responding to their callbacks so we never leave our modal event loops.
    2. It looks like we're getting truckloads of X expose events causing lost of flicker on every dialog. The CPU is maxing out the whole time, redrawing windows takes forever after hiding it, etc. It seems to be mainly text boxes, but I can't be sure.
    We've copied a binary compiled on 2.6 onto the box and it runs fine so it seems. Is anyone aware of any issues/patches around this area, or any other info we can get to assist tracking down where the exposes are coming from.
    Thanks,
    Rhys

    Progress!
    If I compile with -DMOTIF12_HEADERS and then link with -lMrm12 (which resolves to libMrm.so.3 instead of libMrm.so.4 )and -lXm12 (which resolves to libXm.so.3 instead of libXm.so.4) my application behaves as expected.
    So it would seem that something has changed in Motif that my application does not like, or we were aleays doing something wrong and it just got worse, or... any ideas on where I can start hunting for such a beast?
    Thanks,
    Rhys
    Moazam,
    Just rebuilt using 6U2 both with and without -compat=4
    and it still exhibits the same behaviour... lots of
    expose events, flicker all over the place, high CPU
    usage (its around 60% and Xsun is around 30%).
    Any further ideas?
    Rhys
    To my knowledge, 4.2 is not supported on Solaris 8.
    You should try compiling your code with Forte
    Developer 6.2, and if you need, you can use the
    -compat flags.

    only runs on 400 MHz or less, only a handfull of graphic cards, etc.)
    What is the best C/C++ compiler? Does it support Visual Workshop?
    How about Motif? What version? We were using Motif 1.2.4 on X11R5
    from ICS, is this OK? Any heads up would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

    Solaris 8 is currently available at
    http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/index.html
    Not sure what you mean by "generic across intel boards" - it's the
    same kernel, but drivers will differ depending on your H/W config -
    see the HArdware Compatibility list:
    http://soldc.sun.com/support/drivers/hcl/index.html
    There are freeware e.g. GNU compilers - go to sunfreeware.com
    For serious commercial development, the Sun Workshop tools are
    available - Workshop 5 is shipping now and you can get a WS6 early access at the access1.sun.com website.
    CDE seems to have taken over from Motif. For details on X11R6 features etc, follow the first link below:

    Hello,
    I installed DS50 on a solaris 8 machine. When I start the console I get the following messages:

    You are probably missing patches. Please run bin/slapd/server/idsktune to see which patches you are missing.

  • Application crash @ libXm.so.4 in Solaris 10_x86 after migrating from SPARC

    my application which worked well in the SPARC architechture, after
    migrating to Solaris 10_x86 - facing lot of crashes originating at
    Motif Xm/Xt libraries like libXm.so.4, */usr/X11_LINK/lib/libXt.so.4*.
    Did anyone face this kinda issue before?..Pls help me solving the issue...
    Is there any patch+ that I need to install or do you have any other suggetions...?

    You may be facing a lot of crashes when migrating form SPARC to x86 systems, if memory leaks are not taken care properly, especially when you are using Motif.
    Memory leaks can cause serious problems with X Toolkit programs. Since event driven programs often call the same resource handling code repeatedly, even small leaks can result in large problems.
    Memory leaks errors are common when getting and setting resources. When setting a resource, you must decide if the widget copied the value so that you can free (or modify) your copy. When getting a resource, you must decide if the widget returned you a copy that you must free.
    Somehow, the solution for the Application crash. It was because of memory leak/improper memory deallocation/allocation.
