X on folder after transferring files

I transferred music, pictures, and video to my Mac book pro from an external hard drive. After the trAnsfer was complete it showed the folder with an "x" and a loading bar still. How do I resolve this or does it resolve itself?

Hi, all... I have an iMac with a 250GB drive, and a 500GB TC. Since I had about 30GB left on my Mac hard drive, I've added a WD Studio Firewire HD (2TB) to the set up. This morning I copied my iPhoto library (56GB) and Movies folder (64GB) to the external drive, and deleted them from the iMac HD. Now the TC is telling me that it's running low on space. I assume this is because instead of the 220 GB of iMac HD it is backing up, it is now effectively keeping two copies of the photos and movies in the same iMac backup - one for the Mac HD volume and one for the MyBook volume - in case I need to restore the original, now deleted files.
Correct.
I guess that eventually this problem will go away as the "internal" copy disappears into past history... will it?
Yes. But as you put more and more data on that new drive, you may fill up the TC's internal HD past the point where it can cope.
The question is, did it delete old backups (that may take quite a while) and do a new backup successfully, or did it fail with a message? It sounds like there should be enough space, depending on how much space the laptop's backups are using.
Note that Time Machine, running on the iMac, will not delete any old backups from the laptop, only from the iMac. If you want to reduce the amount of space used by the laptop's backups, you'll have to delete some of its old backups manually, then "compact" its sparse bundle, per #12 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.
I suppose the other option is to use the WD 2TB drive as my back-up drive, and keep the TC as a NAS drive for the laptop backups. The only problem with that is that then my media files and the backups would be on the same physical hard drive, which defeats the point.
Also correct.
An alternative would be to connect another external to the TC and back the iMac up to it, instead of the TC's internal HD.

  • Time machine deleted applications folder after restoring files

my macbook 13 inch black would not start up. grey progress bar then would shutdown.
Used time machine to restore my files. Time machine has deleted my applications folder after restoring files. how do I get them back.

Depending on how you restored your data, Time Machine may not recognize your previous backups as belonging to the same machine. It will then delete as many snapshots as necessary to make room for a full backup of all files. Once the snapshots are deleted, they can't be recovered.
Another time, when you erase the boot volume, restore from Time Machine in Setup Assistant so that your backup history will be preserved.
As this experience shows, you need more than one backup to be safe. I suggest you start a new backup set on another, larger, external drive.

  • Can't open iMovie file after transferring files to another Mac. folder lock

Using Migration assistant I transferred files from Mac to Mac, I can't open an iMovie file because it says, folder locked, permission incorrect, or disk full. I have plenty of memory, tried to change the permissions in the INFO window under file to read and write, thinking I did, and it still doesn't open.
It still says read only. I am a new user on this computer.
I used disk utility to correct permissions. Seems like there must be a simple answer, something I am missing. Help. Thanks, Marjorie

Oh, yes, I use iMovie 6, and Snow Leopard in new computer. I heard that Quicktime 7.6.6 is not compatible ?????

  • ITunes is not responding after transferring files to iPod Touch

I upgraded iTunes to iTunes 8.2.0.23 last week. I have a first generation iPod Touch (8 GB) running v. 2.2.1. Since upgrading iTunes, after copying new files onto my iPod Touch, both iTunes and the Touch indicate "Syncing in progress" for several minutes after the files have been copied. Eventually, the Touch's screen will stop displaying the syncing message and turn itself off but iTunes stays on "Syncing in progress". I am unable to eject the Touch (although I know I don't have to). In fact iTunes is completely locked up. When I go to the Windows Task Manager, it shows that iTunes is not responding. I end the task there and it closes iTunes. This happens every time I add new files to the Touch.
I've read in various discussion pages about similar problems occuring but they all involve Version 3.0 Touch's or iPhones. Perhaps this is something particular with iTunes 8.2.0.23. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The issue was, I store my music on my Windows Home Server and had my iTunes library connected to it over the network. When I transferred my music locally to my computer, the issue stopped. So, I guess the answer is, don't sync your iTunes library from a Windows Home Server.

  • Problem: securely erasing home folder after enabling file vault

I enabled file vault. It took 4 days (125 GB) to "securely erase home folder", then when it finally reached 100% I got an error message that it could not be erased after all. I also now got an icon on the desktop (protected house) showing my home folder. Anybody experience with this? What do I do to securely erase? What can I do to speed it up? I have 4GB RAM and a HD of 500GB

    open /Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app
    At the prompt type:
    diskutil secureErase freespace 0 /
    (press return)
This will secure erase free space on your boot volume.
    Level "0" (zero) is a Single-pass zero-fill erase. Levels 0 through 4 are supported.
Here is a full description of the different erase levels: 0 - Single-pass zero-fill erase.
    A. 1 - Single-pass random-fill erase.
    B. 2 - US DoD 7-pass secure erase.
    C. 3 - Gutmann algorithm 35-pass secure erase.
    D. 4 - US DoE algorithm 3-pass secure erase.
for more info (in Terminal) type:
    man diskutil
    (press return)
This should take considerably less time than 4 days. On my Mac Pro with 162GB boot volume,
130GB free (I keep my data on a different volume) it takes about 10 minutes using level "0".
Disk Free Space Warnings are normal during operation and can be ignored.
more info about it from apple support:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24002
You can invoke the erase procedure from Disk Utility GUI interface, but it usually is quicker
    when run from terminal.

  • Flash drive capacity is inaccurate after deleting files from it using my MacBook Pro Mid 2012.

Hi. I'm hoping someone can help me figure out my flash drive problem.  I'm a new MacBook Pro user and have a Mid 2012 model.  I have a Patriot Supersonic 64gb flash drive that I've been using for a few years and has always worked great. I'm not sure if the use of it is relevant, but if so I use it to load movies on, which I then plug into a box (NBox V3) connected to my tv for my kids to view.  When the flash drive gets full I swap out the old movies with new ones.  I have also used it to transfer movies from my mac to pc.
A little while ago, after transferring files to my pc, I got a message stating my flash drive was full when I tried to add additional movies to it.  I deleted more than enough files to make room for the new file, but the available capacity never changed, no matter how many files I deleted.  I figured it wasn't compatible going back and forth between my mac and pc, but after talking to support, they said it should be fine and helped me erase the data and reformat it to FAT32. I had the same problem again, so decided to erase the data again and reformat it again to FAT32, but this time not use it in conjunction with my pc. I'm only using it with the tv box now.  I'm now running across the same problem again.  It's full.  I've transferred files from it to create new room, but the available capacity never changes.
I'm frustrated now b/c I'm not sure where to go from here.  I'm not sure what exactly is the problem. I had to purchase a new external hard drive (WD My Passport for Mac) in order to store files from the flash drive before deleting them b/c I didn't want to use it with my prior external hard drive (Maxtor) since it is used with the pc.  I think that may have been a waste b/c after researching possibilties again today I think it may have something to do with my MacBook Pro ports being USB3 and possibly not compatible with my flash drive, which is a few years old.  I'm really not sure though.  I could go out and buy a brand new flash drive, but I really don't want to spend any more money without really knowing what the real problem is.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks LowLuster!  With that info I have another questions if that's ok.  First, I'm sure it's formatted to fat32.  I have learned I can't transfer movies over 4gb.  I use an external hard drive for those.  The files are ones I've downloaded from YouTube in the mp4 format and are never over 1gb.  They're all mb in size.
I didn't realize flash drives had limited writes.  Is there any way to confirm I've reached the limit?  Both times I reformatted it I was able to add back the videos I previously had on it.  I would say there were a hundred or so. Both times I left some "growing room" on the flash drive so I could add more files.  And, both times I was able to continuing adding until I had reached the max capacity.  The problem occured after I tried deleting files to free up space.  Does this make sense with "the amount you have used it" theory?  Does it start to become buggy at that point, or does it just make writes to the drive impossible?
    Thanks

  • Sending Email after generating Files

    Hi Experts,
My requirement is very specific , I am using PI 7.0 and  the scenario is outbound proxy to file.
I am required to generate some files from the  incoming XML structure and place them on a destination folder.
But it is also required that there must be an email sent to a set of id's as soon as the files are created , I have three questions :
    a) What is the mechanism by which SAP XI can get an acknowledgement back from the folder after the file creation to send an email ?? Is it possible to receive an acknowldgement in this scenario and send email via mail adapter
    b) Should SAP XI send an acknowledgement back to SAP after generating files or after the File receiver Adapter bean is excuted for SAP to send the email ?
    c) Do i have to use BPM essentialy for this ? and if yes .. can you please forward some links specific to this scenario , i have never done BPM
    thanks

I request you to please help me with  some links on BPM as you said send step and requesting acknowledgement ,  since I am new to BPM ,,,

If you didn't run the migration when you first turned on the MacBook Pro, in the Users folder. If you see a folder with a red circle on its icon, drag it to the desktop and authenticate yourself.

Bridge will do the job. View > Sort > ByType. Then you can choose a group of one type and put the files in a separate folder.

I recently installed the Sound Blaster Li've! - Li'veDrvUni-Pack for my Sound Blaster 5.. I didn't know if I should have found 5. specific drivers or not. • Develop settings lost after re-importing folder of DNG files

I've been using LR for several months, and - after getting accustomed to its peculiararities - love the program.
This evening I re-imported a folder of DNG files that I had previously removed from LR - using the "add" import option. When going to the Develop module, I noticed that my original develop settings were no longer applied.
Aren't these settings incorporated into the DNG files? How could they get lost? Are they over-written when re-importing the files?
I always backup my catalog before closing. Does the catalog backup contain the original develop settings for these DNG files?
I know I must have done something wrong! Please advise & explain. Thanks.

Thanks. I do have autowrite to XMP checked. - I learned that lesson a few months ago!
I will see if I can use an older backup to recover the settings. I have never done that before, but I know where my catalog backups are located. If you can give some advice on that, I would appreciate it. I don't want to lose other DNG edits in the process.
Correct me if I'm wrong - but it appears that if I ever do want to remove a previously imported folder from LR for whatever reason - I should just edit the RAW files without converting to DNG. I know DNGs are more compact, but at least the sidecar files associated with the RAW files will always be there! This is more important to me than conserving disk space!
just try it on one or tow files to test. Also look at "Read Metadata from file" in the current catalog first with ine file to see if that helps. Did you have a Prest applied when importing like Zeroed?...... None is the best for importing files with dev settings already applied.
I use DNG exclusively and haven't experienced your issue so review your import settings as mentioned.

  • MPEG folder with .m2v files after build required?

When you build a project, I noticed the folder MPEG being created. does DSP create an MPEG folder with .m2v files?
Now, do you need this folder even after you BUILD the project. I don't understand why, the build folder is nearly 3GB as it is?

If there is a chance that you will have to make changes to your project, you should keep it.
Otherwise you can throw it out.

I can't read acsm files on my e-reader after transferring them from the pc with ADE. it seems to work, but then when I try to open the files on the e-reader it says "open failure". what's wrong?

The acsm file is not the book, it is a ticket to get the book.  I sometimes get library books online, here is what I do.
    1. Start ADE on the computer
    2. Go to library website and find the book I want to download.
    3. Click on the download link
    4. In windows 7 a box opens asking whether I want to open( or run) or save the acsm file
    5. Click open/run and ADE downloads the book into the "Library"
    6. Transfer the book (epub file) to the reader.
