X-post - Director Developments at Adobe

I wrote up a longish post in the basics forum. Won't post the entire thing here. But, just in case anyone is interested, here's the link:

Sorry for the delay, was on vacation.
As is shown in my example, bUpdater is boolean. When else can you have "<false/>" as a key value? I've just verified in Xcode that it is in fact boolean.
The permissions were previously 644, owned by the 501 admin user. I've changed this to root:admin mode 755. No change.
I'm using Acrobat 10.1.1 on Snow Leopard Server.
On the subject of docs, they don't indicate anything about ownership/permissions, and are actually unclear about the contents of the file. It says to create a new "file" ending in .plist, and then to add the "entries" of the dict, without showing an example of the <plist> tag and the DTD. The next section (setting the Updater to manual) also states path "~/User/Library/Preferences/", which has ambiguous context and is also _not a real directory_.
Thanks,
-Tim

  • Xfdf post problem introduced in Adobe Reader 9.1.2?

    Hi,
In the past couple weeks, we've had many customers reporting errors with using the xfdf post-back feature of Adobe Acrobat docuements we use.
They said this was not a problem before they upgraded to Adobe Reader 9.1.2.
I have not been able to reproduce the problem here with Adobe Reader 9.1.2, but I'm guessing that maybe their configuration is slightly different from my test configuration of machine/Adobe Reader 9.1.2...
To summarize how we use xfdf post-back:
1.) The Adobe Acrobat .pdf has a button image with the Acrobat variant of javascript handling a "button push" to do an http post of the xfdf data to our server.
2.) The server then processes the xfdf data.
This has always worked fine in the past, but would appear to (under some yet unspecified client-side circumstances), cause an error.  Note:  the server-side appears to not be the root of the problem because the same server is used with the client-machines (client-machines meaning the acrobat plug-in inside an IE browser) that do work, and also with the client-machines that don't work.
Additional note:  The client-machines that do work...always work.  The client-machines that don't work, never work.
Attached is a screenshot of the Microsoft Fiddler (protocol monitor tool) request and response data of the xfdf post.
Thoughts on what might be the problem?
    Thanks!

Thank you very much for your response but unfortunately none of the suggested solutions have worked.  When pressing F8 then F8 again, the picture icon toolbar toggles between not being shown and then being shown again so no Save options appear.  When pressing F9, nothing happens at all.  When pressing Ctrl+Shift+S an adobe message appears in the middle of the screen stating the following "This document does not allow you to save any changes you have made to it unless you are using Adobe Acrobat 9, Pro 9 or Pro Extended 9.  You will only be saving a copy of the original document.  Do you want to continue?"  It then prompts you with "OK" or "Cancel".  Upon pressing "OK" absolutely nothing happens.   I have seen this type of message many times before when trying to save pdf files and it has successfully saved the file but for some reason nothing happens in this version of adobe reader.  Do you have any other thoughts at all as to how to solve this?

  • Director 12 - Does Adobe have a strategic plan for this product ???

Adobe staff, and Director experts reading this, please answer these questions, for the benefit of all developers who purchased Director 11.x  licenses, and for those who are thinking of purchasing Director 12 licenses.
Why is the Director 11.x and Director 12 documentation, as published by Adobe, so incredibly bad?
Why are the Adobe Director resources on the web and in book form, mostly in reference to Macromedia Director MX and Director 8.5?
After Director 8.5 people stopped writing about Director, even though Adobe continues to release new versions.  Case in point, Director 12 was just released in February 2013.
For example, Amazon.com lists a handful of books under "adobe director", all of them published in 2003 or before, all referring to Director MX or D8.5, and most of them out of print.  Those versions of Director are ancient history in the software world.
Are Silverlight3D and Unity3D taking over the "3D in a browser" niche?
HTML5 WebGL is not ready for prime time, and may not be fully supported in all the major browsers for many years (especially not in Internet Explorer).
So which is the dominant de facto "3D in a browser" solution right now, and for the next few years?
Why doesn't the Adobe Director development staff or the Adobe marketing staff talk in public about Director, like for example on this forum?
Adobe is obviously spending capital dollars to write and release new versions, but we don't see Adobe employees on this forum (which is published by Adobe), evangelizing and promoting Director.
It's as if the Adobe marketing people don't talk to the Adobe Director development staff.
This may be because Adobe has no strategic plan for Director.
If that's wrong, then what is Adobe's strategic plan for Director 12?
What is Adobe's strategic plan for future versions of Director?
Without a strategic plan for future versions, Director is already dead in its tracks.
So is Adobe Director a dead platform?
Should all of us "3D in a browser" developers put our Director 11.x CD's for sale on ebay, and move on to another platform before it's too late for us?

I agree with you. I have been complaining on this forums and asking Adobe to provide us with good documentation about Director 12 since its release a few months ago. I haven't seen any replies from Adobe or updates to the web site.
The iOS support is really poor. No support for video? Adobe is really dropping the ball here. I am very disappointed as many other customers about Adobe's unprofessional behavior releasing a product that is incomplete. I think they want to kill this product and this is the best way they found how to do it. I don't find any other reasonable explanation.

If you are really relying on Director so much that you are
    upset, let me
tell you, it's time to learn another tool. You can do quite a
    bit of what
you can with Director in Flash, and most the things you can't
    you can find
3rd party programs that wrap flash and give you the
    functionality. I've
relied on Director for 10 years, but for the past 3 have been
    retraining
myself. It's pretty obvious it's time to move on, but I hope
    the best for
    Director.
But jeez, I though Director was quirky, Flash way out does it
    because it's
such a hodge-podge of stuff. And AS3 is a pain, but there are
    3-4 Flash jobs
a day advertised here, and 3-4 jobs in Director A YEAR!!!!!
I can only agree. I take some pride in being able to wrangle
Director, but I do certainly not want to be associated with such a
humourless bunch. If someone took the speclist from the joke and
presented it on a meeting without any reactions, someone or all
must be completely incompetent and/or ignorant about what Director
is. "Will be able to publish Shockwave as .swf" - jeez; no bell
ringing??? I actually did this: using FileIO and the Flash SDK as
documentation I was able to manipulate content within an .swf and
write a new one which had new text and images written to it from my
own editor created in Director. This is not a feature of Director,
it is the POWER of Director.

  • Newgroups for Director: Macromedia or Adobe?

Now that Adobe has officially announced the next version of
    Director ("Adobe
Director") are we to continue using these Macromedia

I can't speak for Adobe, but I'm still using the
    forums.macromedia.com news
    server.
If you prefer (yech!) Web Forums over newsreaders, you can
    log into the Adobe
web forum pages which access these newsgroups at
    http://www.adobe.com/support/forums/
They have NNTP servers for their other products on this
    server:
    adobeforums.com
I think you can only read those newsgroups with a newsreader
    - I haven't been
able to post to them. Otherwise, log into their web forums.
FWIW, all of the HTTP macromedia.com links are automatically
    pointing to
adobe.com servers. I have no idea if something similar is
    happening with
    NNTP.

  • Any documentation on post-processing capabilities of Adobe LiveCycle?

    Hi,
As part of product evaluation, can anyone advice if Adobe LiveCycle supports post processing as common correspondence management feature? If yes, please help to provide a learning document of the same.
    Thanks and regards,
    Mayank

Yes, post-processes can be used with CM solution during evaluation.
Go through my blog @ http://blogs.adobe.com/santosh/2012/03/25/how-do-i-create-post-process-for-correspondence- management/  , It also has a link to Adobe's online help docs

  • Couldn't post data to ''. - Adobe interactive form problem

    Hi
I am trying to do a test run with adobe interactive forms, I generated a WSDL from my webservice in SAP and then added the data connection fine. I added the execute event button onto my form and set a HTTP debug point in the function inside my webservice. When I try preview and I try click the execute button every time I receive the following error:
    Couldn't post data to ''
What does this error mean? It never reaches my rfc as the debug is not triggered and the error seems to be coming from adobe lifecycle designer.

    Hello,
I am facing this issue too, were you able to resolve.
    kindly help!
    THanks,
    Deepti

Perhaps it's problem on your end only. If you don't see reply
    is mostly because
we just can't reproduce it. Meaning it is not general Flash
    problem but user
specific configuration, set of drivers, etc... Something
    specific just to his
setting that conflicts, not Flash itself.

  • Director 11 in Adobe News?

  • Saving PDF files as Post Script files using Adobe Professional

I have a 2 Page  PDf document that mainly has Text on each page. Both the Pages have a 2D Data Matrix Barcode also.
I opened the PDF file in Adobe Professional and saved the file as Post Script file.
Post Script file gets saved successfully. When I open the Post script file - It has almost 40,000 line for a 2 page post scipt file.
It has lot of Hex data that looks so huge in the file. ( I thought only Images get converted to Hex format).
Is there a setting or something I am missing that I have this huge Post script file for a 2 page text file PDF

Your barcode may be a high resolution graphic. A lot of junk (hex) is what you would see in such a case with PS. How it looks to you may depend on what application you are using to view the PS file. If you open it in a code or text editor you might get a better idea of what is there. I don't look at PS files much and agree with graffiti's question of why do you want to?

  • How will Director develop after Adobe buy Macromedia?

I was very surprised when IE tell me that www.macromedia.com
is not exist, until I get the news that Adobe has bought it.
I want to know how Director will develop in the future? How
will Shockwave3D develop in the future? Will they become stronger,
or be thrown into warehouse and stop developing?
Director and Shockwave3D are excellent and they are
technical base of many companies (Such as my company). We don't
know how to do if Director will be thrown into warehouse!

    No warehousing, don't worry.

  • Can't get iPad2 iMovie to post director-length to YouTube. Any work around?

I have permissions on YouTube to publish videos of any length but iMovie doesn't know this, won't allow me to reset permission lengths in the app and stops me from posting anything longer than 10 min I believe--the former standard length limitation. I'm using the iPad2 to shoot, edit and post my videos and want it to be full-length, not segments. I've seen this issue show up continually on these boards. Do the developers every pay attention? Seems like a very easy fix. And, has anyone found a better work-around than having to export and upload via browser?
BTW, if developers are listening, here's one other handy game-changer: what if you could pinch-zoom into the editing controls so that you can get better precision than >.02 second increments in video/sound editing. Right now the grabbers are as imprecise as my fat fingers.
Looking forward to any help you can offer. Best, silva

Hmmm... No. Unfortunately. The file is getting uploaded, but the process to move the image over is failing.
