X Quark user needs a few answers...

Coming from the Newspaper industry using Quark i have taken my knowledge with me to a new publication and implimenting the same sort of procedures. OK so this is my procedure: create a full page property ad with modules. I open all raw scans in pshop run through some 'actions' which imbed printers ink weight profiles, adjust size, convert to CMYK, sharpen. Then I save as an eps (not overwriting the original jpeg) I then place the scan into the module via the place command. Yet I am hearing things like you can drag and drop images, place unflattened photshop images, place .ai files. Is this a safe thing to do when my final pdfs are going to a pre-press environment? I'm a bit old school when it comes to .eps and postscrip but possibily using jpegs or unflat pshop files might help in keeping our file sizes to a minimum and not having duplicates all over the place. Thanks for any reply's in advance.

Use PSD, PDF, and AI files. No need to flatten layers.<br /><br />As for drag and drop, it works great from Windows Explorer (the finder <br />on Mac) and Bridge. Don't drag and drop directly from Photoshop.<br /><br />Welcome to the 21st century! <g><br /><br />Bob

  • First-time mac user needs (probably easy) answer to question about camera

so i got my first mac yesterday, an i-mac with the built in camera. could someone please tell me how to take pics like i took of myself when i first did the set-up? sorry if i'm a bone head and the answer is something really simple. thanks in advance!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, grumpysmurf011
If all you want to do is make aquick snapshot, you can use your Photo Booth application and its "Normal" effect.
Many other applications can make also snapshots, but Photo Booth is about as simple a way as there is.
If you are specifically asking how to change your account (set-up) picture,
you can also do that from within  > System Preferences... > Accounts.
Please post back and explain in different words if I have missed what you want to do.
We will try to offer suggestions based on the details in your response.

  • I need a few beta testers

I have the title creation macro working.
This macro is run from a Microsoft Word document. I wrote it on Office 2003 but it should work on newer versions. It runs on 2003 because I have the compatibility pack.
    Here is how it works:
You create a title in Premiere Pro using the font and positioning that you want to use. Get it just right. (One line of text only though.)
Change the text of the title to "xyz" without the quotes.
Export the title as a title. (*.prtl)
Open the MS Word document and either type in the text you want to use or paste it in from another document.
I limited it to 9999 titles but I doubt that will inconvenience anyone. (I actually only tested it to 9990). That many titles takes quite a while though. (55 minutes) Heck, it takes quite a while to import that many into Premiere Pro for that matter.
Once you have the text in place (make sure that there isn't a blank line at the end or you will get an empty title), you just double-click where it says to double-click.
It will ask you which is the master file you want to make copies of. Then it will ask you for the file name and location you want to use for the copies. It will append the numbers 0001 through 9999
Then it proceeds to make your copies using each line of text for a new title.
When it is finished, just import the titles into Premiere Pro and drag drop to the timeline. Or automate to sequence.
Deceptively simple. I didn't write much of the code. I understand it, but only after studying what was kindly given to me by a master VBA guy on a VBA forum. Kind of like if you were a newbie around here and Jim Simon or Ann Bens offered to edit your video for you after you asked a question. It was phenomenal. Although it might have been more like what I did for the people I created intros for. Not sure just how much effort he had to put into it. But it sure works great and the code is simple, and clean.
OK? So now I need a few beta testers before I just throw it out there to the world of Premiere Pro users. If you would like to take it for a test drive, let me know in this thread.
If you are concerned about letting a macro run on your system, prevent it from running and just read the text from the Visual Basic Editor yourself. You will see that it doesn't do anything sinister. Then allow it the next time.
Just do me one favor. If you change the code to make it better, please share it with everyone.
    Thanks,

Really? 272 views of this post at the time I write this and nobody wants to create multiple titles based on a single title using text from an external program?
    Wow!
We see the question all the time, and yet nobody wants to try it out?
OK. I will just wait until somebody asks again and offer the untested solution. Seriously, this is not the response I expected. Not after years of seeing requests for this feature.

  • Number of days before user needs to change password

If I enter a value for "Number of days before user needs to change password" will that effect both user and supervisor accounts or just user accounts? I have a supervisor account that we use for a lot of processes and do not want it to expire. However, our corporate security policy is to have user passwords expire at least every 90 days. Has anyone faced this before?<BR><BR>Thanks,<BR><BR>Mburkett

mburkett,<BR><BR>Version 7.X has the external authentication option. The integration with active directory is very easy and can be configured in a few minutes. However, if your Essbase user names are different than MSAD user names, you would have to replace all Essbase users with their domain ID in order to use external authentication. If the user names are the same, it is only a matter of changing the flag to use the external AD password, rather then the Essbase password. <BR><BR>If you are not using Hyperion HUB, you should install it prior to implementing External Authentication.<BR><BR>I don't know the details of your custom job scheduler, but if it is based on ESSCMD, I dont see why it would not continue to work with an upgraded version.<BR><BR>Good Luck,<BR><BR>Chris

  • Is it possible to have a PDF form flow to a second page IF the user needs to type in a lot of information? ( Like a Word Doc would)

Is it possible to have a PDF form flow to a second page IF the user needs to type in a lot of information? ( Like a Word Doc would)
    An automated second page.

    There are two approaches.
If you wish to use AcroForm technology, then you would need to write a bunch of JavaScript to enable this.  It has been done, but it’s not trivial.
If you wish to use XFA technology, then it can be setup to happen automatically.
Be aware that in both cases, even though both technologies are part of the PDF standard, that the forms will only be usable in this manner in Adobe’s viewers as many others don’t support JavaScript or XFA.

  • I need a few networking APIs! any help appreciated

    Hi people!
I need a few APIs for a networking project, namely an API that does some kind of port scanning similar to the one found in NMAP, and another one that does packet sniffing, similar to that found in CPAC. Anyone knows where can I find any libraries that do anything like that? any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have looked in a few open source sites like sourceforge.net or www.opensource.org but I can't find anything... I also looked it up using google and I found a few CPAC libraries, but they're all for C, none for Java. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could look...

  • User needs to delete a line item from old STO

    Hi all,
User needs to delete a line item from old stock transfer order and would like to be advised what he needs to do to delete the line item from the STO.
On the STO, Goods Issue done and reversed also. Delivery completed indicator not checked. I aslo found that the payment has been made for the line item 40 for Freight. Carrier charges. It seems that the payment has been made/cleared to the vendor.  I think Due to this reason they are unable to remove this line item from STO. They have attempted to delete or block an item that is not yet closed. All down (advance) payments made to date have been taken into account.
Can you please advice how to resolve this problem?
    Thanks in advance..
    Regards
    Suresh

    Hi,
Delivery completed tick is also there for STO PO. If you are not getting it then check settings. Also you can mark deletion indicator for that line item. Or minimise quantity to goods received quantity.
For STO if delivery is made from delivering plant but Goods receipt not done in receiving plant then that material remains in transit. Can viewed with ME5t. In this case that line item cannot be delted or delivery completed.
Still your client wants to complete these type also better to leave decision to business if they want to reverse delivery (Stock of issuing plant will increase) or make Gr ( Stock of receiving plant will increase) Although they can adjust later with physical inventry process and make stock in system to real physical stock

  • Need a quick answer should I get just wi-fi or wi-fi cellular thanks

Need a quick answer should I get wi-fi or wi-fi w/ cellular what do you think is the best way to go. Will be shopping for one in the next few days. Thanks

It depends upon where you will be using it - do you need to be able to access the internet when you are away from wifi networks, and/or do you need built-in GPS (only the cellular iPads have a built-in GPS chip) ? If you get the cellular version then you don't need to activate a service on it until if/when you need it

Our company has users on both Acrobat X and XI.  We have custom stamps in X that the XI users need to use. How do we transfer the stamps to use in the newer version?

You just copy the stamp files from one machine and place them in the correct directory on the other. You can find the location of both the user and app stamp directories by running the following code in the interactive JavaScript console:
    app.getPath("user", "stamps");
    app.getPath("app", "stamps");
Select both lines and press Ctrl+Enter (Windows) or cmd+enter (Mac). Here's what I get with this using Acrobat 11 on a Mac:
    user folder: /Macintosh HD/Users/georgejohnson/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/11.0/Stamps/
    app folder: /Macintosh HD/Applications/Adobe Acrobat XI Pro/Adobe Acrobat Pro.app/Contents/Built-in/Comments.acroplugin/Stamps/
The stamp files (PDFs) might have cryptic looking names, but you can safely open each to see what stamps they contain.

  • Frustrated: Novice Illustrator User Needs HELP

Frustrated: Novice Illustrator User Needs HELP
    Hello All
I am a novice user of Illustrator [after you read my question it will probably be obvious] running Illustrator 14.0.0 (CS4) - on a MAC iMac running 10.4.11.  I am a small business owner and have to wear many hats and so I am forced to be my graphic designer by default - ha ha
PROBLEM - If I make a box using the RECTANGLE TOOL... The box should have a point at each Corner and the Middle of the box, as well as, in the Middle of each Side, and middle of Top and Bottom for a total of 9 anchor points...  but it only has 5... missing the 4 anchor points in the Middle of each Side, and middle of Top and Bottom. It is the same on Text Boxes too..  I can NOT find a setting to change this.... More, when running Illustrator on my MAC Laptop, It has all 9 anchors on the box...   I looked at Preferences etc... and matched everything to be the same but the problem is not fixed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks-
    13CrazyTrain

Aw, c'mon James. Chill it a bit.
Yeah. You continually throw around your little personal jibes, and then if someone calls your bluff, you think you can back out of it with the old "can't you take a joke?" comeback.
In my previous work environment where everyone used Illie, Freehand was a word to be used cautiously – a bit like Macbeth in the theatre.
Well, I didn't work in your previous environment. And FreeHand specifically had nothing to do with this thread until you brought it up. Seems to me it's you who has a FreeHand chip on his shoulder.
I thought you knew my way of expressing myself better...
What, you think I keep a personality registry of regulars here or something? I'll tell you what I don't do: I don't engage in personal insults here. Yet your personal jibes are frequent enough for me to have grown weary of them.
I think I was not dismissing bounding boxes as useless...
Excuse me? "There's absolutely no need to use bounding boxes"?
You are probably right that bounding boxes came with Illie 9.
Probably before that. But I can personally recall that the current-selection bounding box was present in AI9. Unlike some, I try to avoid making claims that I can't immediately substantiate.
I hopped straight from 6 to 9 and that was the first time I had seen them outside of Freewotever.
I'm not familiar with "Freewotever." But if you're again trying to be funny, you are also again revealing your near complete unfamiliarity with it. FreeHand is not the program that continually cluttered the interface with bounding boxes. In fact, for many years that is exactly one of the distractions FreeHand users complained about re Illustrator.
First off, FreeHand's interface doesn't display bounding boxes. It displays only bounding box handles (four dots) on non-basic constructs like clipping paths. (Somewehere around FH 9, it implemented the optional Transform Handles, but that's another thing.) In the cases of rectangles and ellipses, FreeHand doesn't display Bounding Boxes per se. Working in FreeHand has always provided more functionality with much less visual clutter (and tool glut) than Illustrator's defaults.
The difference is that FreeHand has always provided proper live geometric shape primitives--something which Illustrator still doesn't provide, even though it's one of the most basic of all vector drawing interface expectations, being present in just about any vector drawing program on the planet--except Illustrator. That point of confusion is common among those who are experienced only with Illustrator's chronically outdated and archaic interface.
Quite to the contrary, a rectangle drawn in a program that does provide basic live primitives doesn't need a bounding box to perform the bare-bones basic manipulation exemplified, because you can change the aspect ratio of it (and corner radius) anytime you want, regardless of its rotation. You can do this not only in FreeHand, but Canvas, Inkscape, Xara Designer, and even in just about any basic drawing module of just about any "works" or "office" bundle. It's just Illustrator that still fails to provide live shape primitives, and therefore needs a rotated bounding box to provide a very limited subset of such common functionality. You draw a rectangle (or any other geometric primitive) in Illustrator, and all you get is a dumb path. So Illustrator actually needs bounding boxes more than other programs, because of its anemic core funciton set and its hideous user interface.
But of course, someone who is familiar only with Illustrator wouldn't know that. Which is fine...so long as they don't spew derision at programs they know next to nothing about (and users of such programs).
...bearing in mind that I have been at this job since the days of Rotring pens with nosebleeds.
So? I was using Rapidographs and constructing compound rotation in isometric on the board for about a decade before I came to prefer Staedtler pens because I found them less prone to clog. What does that have to do with anything?
Obviously newcomers should be encouraged to use new features, but preferably not before they have grasped the basics thoroughly. How basic bounding boxes are is perhaps a moot point.
Nonsense. Other self-proclaimed "experts" in Illustrator would no doubt argue that bounding boxes were added for the benefit of "beginners." Again, this is not a "new feature." And yes, it is bare-bones basic; just implemented in a half-baked manner in Illustrator.
As for step 3 you are right, but if you turn off the preview you can use the pixels on the paths for alignment,
Egads. That's really grasping at straws, Steve.
    ...Or use bounding boxes.
    Or use bounding boxes.
