X session failing to start...agpgart error

I've seen other postings on this, but no answers. I feel like I've read one hundred articles but to no avail. I am trying to install Sol-10 onto a PC (Compaq Deskpro PIII with Intel 810 video card), and can't get the 'X' session to start. I've tried XSun, Xorg, agpgart, and nothing works. I guess the closest I've gotten is installing Solaris Express (Sol-11), which installed the AGPGart driver by default. I now have the /dev/agp* files, but upon booting, I get the 'Resource Currently Unavailable" error message. And it goes on about kernel support etc.

I was wondering if anyone out there has gotten these video cards to work and if they could summarize the steps necessary. I actually work for a large company that has a Sun rep that I've been trying to work with as well, and if I get answers there I'll be sure to post.

Thanks!

My bad, i think agpgart was implemented in Solaris 10 11/06, not 6/06. I just remember that i had to do an upgrade to the latest Solaris 10 release the last time i installed my OS, but since then i've changed the framebuffer and reinstalled the OS due to a disk crash.
Anyway, i think the AGPgart driver, if installed correctly, should create a /dev/agp* device, also someone asked for a good location for logfiles, the best logfile to look at is /var/log/Xorg.0.log, if you are running Xorg at least.

• Cannot sync. Error message says "sync session failed to start"

I am not able to sync my ipod. The error message "the ipod could not be synced because the sync session failed to start" keeps popping up. I have tried both syncing it plugged in and by wifi and the same message appears

Same problem today. Took five times to reinstall without any error messages. Apple has posted a way to fix and you should follow their's first. I finally got to upldate correctly by doing their fix but with one difference. I did the following:
1) Went to the C:\program files (x86)\iTunes and C:\program files\iTunes folders and moved every file ending in .dll to the desktop (even if two files in same location had the same name, just replace)
2) Restarted computer and still got error message
3) Uninstalled all apple programs possible in the following order......itunes, apples software update, apple mobile device support, bonjour, and apple application support.....all performed using the microsoft control panel
4) put all the .dll files on the desktop in the trash and emptied (this is a step apple support did not specifically put in their fix but for a final try I wanted to delete everything apple).
5) Restarted computer.
6) Re-installed itunes from apple website
No error messages during re-install and was able to open shortcut in one try. Even updated my ipad to make sure everything was working.

what do i do when i try to sync my ipod touch to itunes and it shows me an error message that the sync session failed to start?

Hello brainiac08
Typically that error occurs because of a backup issue. Check out the article below to resolve it.

When I try to sync my Ipad Mini, I get an error message that says "sync session failed to start". Anyone ever deal with this?

Quit iTunes, restart your computer, restart your iPad and try again. If it doesn't work with a restart of the iPad, try a reset of the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

B-rock, thanks for posting the above. I actually have the same issue, running Windows XP and I don't have that backup location, \Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\. When I go to Documents and Settings\(username)\ there's a AppData folder followed by:\LocalLow\DataMngr\ .
I have the latest update, 5.0.1 and I have the iPod Touch 3rd gen.
I have tried removing itunes and all that is associated with it then reinstalling and keep getting the same message. I've reset my ipod thinking that would help but still, no backup.
In iTunes, Edit, Preference, Device there are no backups.
What am I doing wrong, can you help?
Thank you!

• I am getting an error message that my Iphone could not be synced because the sync session failed to start

I am getting an error message when trying to sync to my PC that says "The Iphone could not be synced because the sync session failed to start" what setting is messed up?

The way I fixed this (though I'm using a iTouch 4G): disconnect your iPhone from the computer, shut down iTunes, then reset your iPhone by holding the Power/Sleep & Home buttons together for 10 seconds. Restart iTunes, then when your iPhone restarts, reconnect it to the computer, and everything should work fine

• Trying to sync my phone. I get an error that sunc session failed to start

I am trying to back up my phone. But when I try to sync it I get an error stating sync session failed to start. I dont know what I am doing wrong to get this error.

Hmm. It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive. I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread. He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3784647?start=0&tstart=0
If necessary, post the resultings numbers and we can verify what the next steps to take.

• Session "" failed to start with the following error: 0xc0000022

Newly installed Windows 2012 R2 server throws the following event roughly every 3 minutes:
Session "" failed to start with the following error: 0xc0000022
The PID referenced in the event points to WmiPrvSE.exe running as NETWORK SERVICE. Is there something obvious I'm missing because I'm not sure where to go with the information I found so far. I already did my fair sharing of Binggling and everything
I find doesn't apply or doesn't fix the problem.

Hi,
Can you let me know the full event log content?
I suggest you restart the Windows Management Instrumentation service.

• Error message help: "The iPod "CKK's iPod" could not be synced because the sync session failed to start."

I get this error message when trying to sync my iPod Touch, "The iPod “CKK's iPod” could not be synced because the sync session failed to start." I have done the restore on it, but still get the message... I realize that the restore takes away everything on the iPod, but I was hoping I wouldn't get the message again.. nop

Just made one very simple move without having to restore iPhone or reinstall iTunes..
1st step:http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538 *Read 'in my case' in here first before following this link*
Follow that link to restart (or if necessary) reinstall your Apple mobile device support.
In my case, Leave iPhone connected all the way. I first exit iTunes. Then i stopped the Apple Mobile device support (by following a part on that link above in step 1) which Effectively made my iPhone undetectable on itunes but discoverable by windows as a 'camera device'. Then while device is still connected, i started the Apple mobile dev support again. Now i open itunes and there my iPhone re-appears.
2nd step: After your iphone re-appears on iTunes, press Sync and all is well...
P.S, Mine is iPhone 4 running on iOS 5, iTunes 10.5, Windows 7..

• ERROR: "The iPhone could not be synced because the sync session failed to start.?"

I have iTunes 10.5 (whatever the most updated is) with the new iPhone 4S. Its new, i never dropped it, and i'm 99.99999% confident there's nothing wrong with it.
With that in mind, these last few days this strange error, "the iphone could not be synced because the sync session failed to start"... It used to sync properly but now it just doesn't sync at all.
I have Windows Vista also. This is not normal and i've never seen this before.
What can I do to fix this error?

The new iTunes has a somewhat different look from the previous version. You can get the old look back if you prefer it by doing View > Show Sidebar in iTunes. Or you can adapt to the new look.

I am 100% sure that this is related to the IP Helper Service (iphlpsvc) because the error is logged every time I manually restart the service.

Hi,
IP Helper (service name 'iphlpsvc') is apparently designed to improve a Windows PC's support for IPv6 network protocol.
I suggest you try enable the dump collection by copying following words into notepad, saving it as dump.reg and importing it:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\localdumps\iphelper.exe]
"DumpFolder"=hex(2):63,00,3a,00,5c,00,63,00,72,00,61,00,73,00,68,00,64,00,75,\

"DumpCount"=dword:00000010
"DumpType"=dword:00000001
"CustomDumpFlags"=dword:00000000
Once the error appears again, please find the crashdump file under c:\.

Can you let us know if you get any Blue Screen crush error while using your comptuer?
Generally we can safely ignore the errors in the Event log. Aas we don't if you have get other issues in your computer, you can test your computer in the Clean Boot mode. This method will help us determine if this issue is caused by a loading program or service.
You can try the the following steps:
1. Click the Start Button type "msconfig" (without quotation marks) in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.
2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
Then, restart the computer. When the "System Configuration Utility" window appears, please check the "Don't show this message or launch the System Configuration Utility when Windows starts" box and click OK.
Please test this issue in this Clean Boot environment, if the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, you can use the dichtomy to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue. You can refer to the
KB929135.
Good luck!

This is a very poor answer. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about because if you tell someone its ok to "safely ignore the errors in the event log" as a blanket instruction ESPECIALLY because as he stated so himself
he didn't know if there were other issues with the OP's pc then he's giving really bad advice. If you ignore errors in the event log then over time your system will degrade and you will have other issues.. Every error on your pc should NOT be ignored.
It should be decided on a case by case situation.
Furthermore this is an error involving the Windows Session which it states has failed. Definitely should NOT be ignored.
I've got the same error which has suddenly just showed up. No BSOD, Do not have WHS installed and all my media center connectors have NEVER been connected. I don't believe this is a service issue. I think it has something
to do with kernel event tracing.
Of course, it's just my opinion....I could be wrong!

"....could not be synced because the sync session failed to start." I have synced this iPod with this MacBook Air about 6 weeks ago. Now it won't sync. A possible solution is to delete the backup file located in Mac:~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ However, I don't have a "MobileSync" folder in my Application Support folder. Please help.

The version of iTunes that comes with beta 2 cannot sync devices that have the beta 1 software installed. To avoid this problem, do the following:
Sync any devices that have beta 1 installed to the version of iTunes that came with beta 1.
Upgrade iTunes to the version that comes with beta 2.
Connect the device and install the beta 2 software. (Understand that you might see a failure to sync error when you first connect the device.)
After installing the beta 2 software, restore from your the backup you made in step 1.
