X&Y axis crossing at point different to zero

Dear
I am trying to do a scatter plot, but some points are x=0/y=0, so I would like to have x&y axis crossing at a point different to 0 (for example -0,05/-0,05), in order to have a better visualization of this points. Is this possible with Number'09?
I appreciate the help!
Xavier

There is one drawback. If the lines are to be a different color than the chart gridlines, they must be in front of the chart which also puts them in front of the data points. It would be better to use the same color as the gridlines, but thicker, put them behind the chart, and set the chart fill color to none.
If it is absolutely necessary to have the axis labels at the axes instead of on the edges, it will require text boxes or tables.

  • Changing the x-axis crossing point on a log y-axis

    Is it possible to change the point at which the x-axis crossing a log y-axis?
    I'd like the origin to be 0.1, not 1, and I'm losing hours of my life trying to work out how to do it.
    Hopefully it will be something easy that I have missed...
    ...I'd rather look foolish than buy Microsoft office.

    I have another idea for you.
    1) Multiply all of your numbers by 10 or whatever factor of 10 (i.e., 100 , 1000, etc.) is necessary so that none of them are smaller than 1.
    2) Take the LOG of those new numbers.
    3) Plot the result of (2) using a linear Y axis. Get your chart looking like you want it with the min, max, and number of Y axis gridlines you want. Each number on the Y axis needs to be an integer, no decimals.
    4) Choose a custom format for the Y axis numbers. Delete the format that is there and add a new format for each of the numbers on the axis. For example, lets say you multiplied by 100 in the first step above. The gridline with the number "0" should really be "0.01" so make a format for "if value is 0" and type in 0.01 as the format. Repeat for the other numbers (1 becomes 0.1, 2 becomes 1, 3 becomes 10 ,etc).
    Again, kind of a pain. I think I like this solution better, though. The chart looks better in the end and you can do multiple data series on the same chart.

  • Number: chart: set the horizontal axis (x-axis) crosses at

    When creating a chart in number, how can I set the horizontal axis (x-axis) crosses the y-axis at the point I want it to be? In other words, when I create a chart, the x-axis is automatically set to be at the bottom, but what if I don't want it always to be at the bottom?

    If you want the axis line somewhere else, you can draw a line on the chart using the graphics tools, having deselected the option for an automatic Axis line.

    In this specific case there are no differences for code points storing character data because used character set is the same.
    But what is your Oracle 4 digits version ?
    Are you sure that database character set and national character set are the same ?
    In recent Oracle versions, database character set and national character set are different. For example:
    SQL> select * from nls_database_parameters where parameter like '%SET%';

  • In Point Stuck Above Zero

    I've been working in a LiveType doc and I cannot get the in point to register zero. I don't have any tracks (as far as I can see) that are taking up space at the beginning -- the first track is flush left against the in point marker.
    Any suggestions regarding what might have gotten 'stuck' into place that's causing my in point to start at 54;12?
    Thanks.

  • Extending Trendlines and Changing Where Y-Axis Crosses

    Hi,
    I'm trying to create a graph for a class in school. I've created a scatterplot with a linear trendline through my data. Now I would like to extend that trendline to continue past my data points. I know that in Excel you can simply forecast the trendline. Obviously I have Numbers, not Excel, so I was wondering if there was anyway I could do this.
    Also, my x-axis includes both positive and negative numbers. However, the Y-axis does not cross the X-axis at 0. Instead the labels for the Y-axis are on the far left of the graph. I'm trying to move the Y-axis so that it crosses through the 0 point of my Y-axis.
    Any help would really be appreciated!
    Thanks

    Hi 'ray,
    Numbers will not extend a trend line beyond the last data points, so you'll need to calculate these points. Fortunately, FORECAST uses the same calculation as used for a linear trend line.
    Add two rows to your table, one above and one below.
    In the first, enter the minimum x value to which you want to extend the trend line (in the example, -10 in D4)
    In the second, enter the maximum x value to which you want to extend the trend line in the example, 15 in D14).
    In the Y data column, enter the formula shown into the new top and bottom cells (changing only the first cell reference to match the row).
    In the example, I entered these formulas into the next column, then copied and pasted values into the Y data column.
    The two new data points are points that lie on the extension of the trend line, and will not affect that line beyond extending it. They will, unfortunately, generate data point symbols at each end of the line.
    I've also used the Chart Inspector to set the maximum and minimums for each axis to accomodate the data, and the number of steps to ensure whole number indices, including zeroes, on each axis.
    Numbers places the "axes" and lables at the bottom and left of the chart, and without detaching the chart from the document, they aren't moveable.
    The (red) x and y axes on the example are lines inserted using the Shapes button, then placed on the grid lines from the two zero values. The grid lines can be removed after placing the lines. After placing the lines, I selected lines and chart and did Arrange > Group to allow moving the chart as a unit. I also found that allowed me to resize the chart without losing the alignment of the new axes.

    Ok, so the solution is coming from what you've just said. One plot for the old positions I assume you want to display a certain number of points... e.g. the last 10positions and one plot for the current ball position.

  • Y-axis on bar chart showing all zeros

    I have created a bar-chart in version 1.6 -- and the y-axis values that correspond with the gridlines all show 0.000. The graph is representing the cost/pound so the values will never be whole numbers and always less than 1. The data point values are all correct.
    The data label format is 9.999 and shows up correct.
    The Y axis format is the same way --
    Define axis interval: Y axis interval is 0.05 with min: 0.000 and max 0.250.
    What is wrong?

  • Bar charts- can bar start at a point greater than zero?

    I would like to create a bar chart where data for each category covers a range. Is there a way in Numbers to start a bar chart at a value greater than zero and extend for a defined amount? For example, start the bar at 70 and stop at 200?
    I can do this in Excel, but haven't found a way to do it in Numbers yet. Any ideas?

    Yes. Select the chart by clicking anywhere on it. Then click on the Inspector icon in the Tool Bar. In the Inspector pane which opens, click on the Chart symbol in the row of icons across the top of the pane; the Inspector pane changes to show Chart properties. Look down the pane until you see Value Axis Format which shows 3 white boxes. In the first box, type the value you want your chart Value axis (the chart vertical axis) to start at. In the second box, type the value you want for its upper limit, and in the third box, type the number of steps you want displayed on your axis. E.g. Minimum = 200, Maximum = 800, Steps = 3 will give a chart axis which starts at 200 (a supressed zero), ends at 800, and shows 3 values (400, 600 & 800) in addition to the base value of 200.
    Hope this helps,
    Ian Mathieson.

  • Reset BufferedReader pointer back to zero

    How do I reset the position of a BufferedReader object back to 0? For example, I want to do something with the BufferedReader object, namley use the read() method, and then once I do that, I would like to reset the pointer back to index 0 (or the beginning of my file).
    I am using BufferedReader to open a file.
    I tried using the reset() method, but that does not seem to work. I also used the skip() method, hoping to "skip" backwards, however that is not possible because you can only skip forward.
    Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for your help.
    Yes, originally I got an IOException, that I simply caught.
    Also, thanks for pointing out that the reset() method does not do what I want, meaning reset it back to the beggining of the file. So I have gotten absolutely nowhere.
    Do you know how I could reset my marker back to the beginning of the file? What I actually want is to go back 9 characters in the file after I have made the call read().
    Once again, thanks.

  • DigitalGraph Annotation at different axis-Y level although the value is same

    Hi,
    I have plot a graph with annotation and I found it labeling the axis-Y at the different level, with the same value.
    Please look at the screenshot I attached. I have attached the Vi too, simply run it will get the result as preview in screenshot.
    So,
    Any idea to fix this ?
    and I need to know,
    How the annotation actually label the axis-Y level ? (sometimes label at  '1', sometimes at '0', a reason behind it that cause this inconsistently ? a fix setting as written in cluster should have all the label at the same level, but why it behave up and down..)
     Please help .. Thanks in advance..

    Hi,
    Thanks for sending your VI with your question. I've tried running it and it appears to run fine with the digital input waveform you have specified. Do you have any input data that you know causes an error that you could send to me? I have attached a screenshot of what happens when I run the VI, so let me know if that looks more like what you are trying to achieve.
    Also, the reason for the annotation switching between a 1 and a 0 along the various lines is because it is an indication of whether the digital signal on that line is high or low at that point, rather than a label on the y-axis itself. It shows that on, for example, line 4, the signal begins low, hence the 0 on the axis, before switching to high, hence the 1 on the axis. I'd be very grateful if you could let me know if this answers your question and don't hesitate to ask if you need anything else clarifying.

  • [AS] How to make cross reference at insertion point

    Hi,
    I have a book ("indb") including several documents with several "anchors"
    (german translation: "Textanker") where cross references from different documents are linked to.
    What I already got is to reference all anchors and collect them in a list.
    Now I would like to make a new cross reference at the insertion point
    in a text frame of the active document - can't get it to run :-(
    Is anybody out there who can post a AS-sample doing this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Here is the reference to an already existing anchor:
    {hyperlink text destination id 44155 of document "kapitel 2.indd" of application "Adobe InDesign CS4"}
    The code I tried to make a new cross reference looks like this - but of course doesn't work:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS4"
    tell active document
    make new hyperlink with properties {name:"new hyperlink", destination:hyperlink text destination id 44155 of document "kapitel 2.indd"}
    end tell
    end tell

    Thanks a lot - got it now!
    Maybe it could be helpful for others to look at your answer
    with the placeholders replaced by "real" strings as it was hard for me
    to figure out the right form:
    tell document 1
    set theDest to make hyperlink text destination with properties {name:"Some name", destination text:<a reference to the relevant text>}
    this line for example looks like this =>
    set theDest to make hyperlink text destination with properties {name:"Some name", destination text:insertion point 902 of story id 44083 of document "kapitel 3.indd" of application "Adobe InDesign CS4"}
    set theSource to make cross reference source with properties {name:"Some name",source text:< reference to the relevant text>}
    this line for example looks like this =>
    set theSource to make cross reference source with properties {name:"Some name", source text:cursorPosition, applied format:cross reference format id 44305 of document "kapitel 1.indd" of application "Adobe InDesign CS4"}
    where "cursorPosition" was defined before by
    set cursorPosition to object reference of selection
    (the cross reference source needs the applied format reference too)
    make hyperlink with properties {source:theSource, destination:theDest, visible:true, highlight:invert, width:thick, border color:dark green, border style:dashed, name:"Whatever" }
    this line for example looks like this =>
    make hyperlink with properties {source:theSource, destination:hyperlink text destination id 44184 of document "kapitel 3.indd" of application "Adobe InDesign CS4", border color:black, highlight:none, border style:solid, hidden:false, visible:true, width:thin}
    end tell
