X1 Carbon 2014 battery

I have had my new X1 carbon for a couple of weeks. Up until this last weekend I haven't used it for longer than 2 hours without charging it again. This past weekend I decided I wanted to see how long the battery life really was. After about 3 hours, and the battery life registering about 50%, I suddenly got a message saying the battery life was under 7%. I let it run for a few more minutes and it shut down. I tried the same experiment today while in the office and got the same results.
Is this a defective battery? Or is there a known driver issue or Windows 8.1 issue?

Sounds like defective battery to me.

  • X1 Carbon 2014 Key Broken

Hey Guys! I have a Thnkpad X1 Carbon - 2014. I was working on my laptop a while back; and pressed the Esc key just to see it pop out. I tried fixing it bak, but noticed that one of the hinges on the right hand side clamp is broken.
The Machine is just 6 months old and I am under onsite warranty. The machine works fine otherwise.
I called up support guys and they told me that since I did not have accidental damage protection, I need to carry my laptop to an authorised service centre and that I would not be covered under warranty. I tried explaining that it popped out in the regular course of use and that there was no accident or damage inflicted on the machine, but they seemed to ingore and simply repeated the accidental damage protection thing.
We may so much for the quality of machines and the quality of after sales service and buy these expensive machine. This is totally unexpected of Lenovo and so disappointing. I am sure my next machine is going to be something which costs 1/2 as much for a much better configuration. Its pointless paying so much and then getting such substandard service and steroetype answers to your issues.
Any suggestions? Should I just go and buy a new keyboard to save me the hassle of contacting the support guys again?
    Neil.

  • X1 Carbon 2014: Built-in WQHD Display. Turn off & Small Icons

How to turn off the built-in display without
having to change the power option ( Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings),
    close the window,
or put the system to sleep.
WQHD sucks. Most Icons (YouTube video player controller, Win Photo Viewer controller, Eclipse, etc) are tiny. Is there away to fix this annoying small icon issue? Can we get quality (WQHD) without hurting our eyes? plz take a look at the pic.

Does the keyboard flex under reasonable pressure?
Is the adaptive bar actually a pixel-based LCD or just a series of predefined patterns like the really old LCD displays?
The "new" clickpad is very slick. The texture is good but just a little too rubbery for my taste. In comparison with my brother's old T series, I prefer the X1.
Under reasonable pressure, absolutely not. The amount of force it takes for me to flex it is something I'd never do under normal use. It feels very solid in my opinion.
Upon a close inspection, the adaptive touch bar appears to be the old LCD type. I really want those media keys.

Dell U3011 30 inch monitor (native resolution: 2560x1600), connected to displayport on Onelink pro dock
    Installed Ubuntu 14.04 (beta)
Max resolution on U3011 I can get is 1920x1440 right now.
Tried on Win 8.1 pro (dual boot), works perfectly.
Tried the mini displayport on X1, works perfectly as well.
    Any pointers?

Assuming the OP is using Win8. Some X12C models ship with Win7 or are "down"gradable to it.

  • Received X1 Carbon (2014/"New") model 20A70035US but missing MultiTouch!

I purchased a 20A70035US TopSeller ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2014 about a month ago.  It just arrived today as supply was very tight on it.  The unit looks great, but the MultiTouch display, which is documented in PSREF, and was also in the description of the product with the reseller I bought it from, is missing.  Touching the screen does nothing, and Windows reports no touch input device.  The laptop is a bit lighter than I was expecting too, leading me to believe MT is physically absent.
I have a T440s already so I know how MultiTouch is supposed to work!  I ran System Update to make sure no drivers were missing, and it found nothing for the display.
Could Lenovo really have shipped a TopSeller model with the WRONG display?!  I desperately need to get this laptop into the field and as it stands now, I have a useless machine in front of me.  GRRR.

My reseller was able to secure stock of the i7 model for me (20A70035US), so I bought that one instead and will return the i5 model for a refund.  I am just waiting for RMA approval from Lenovo so it can be sent back for processing.
The i7 unit I received looks great and the touchscreen works!

  • 2100: Detection error on SSD0 (M.2) -- X1 Carbon 2014

I keep on getting this error on the X1 Carbon, attaching picture.
If it stays on for a long time, 8 hours and more it will show, consistently.
Anyone else had this problem ? found a fix ?
Its brand new and it started showing since day 1

lenovo support 06/22/2014 filed a support request and this is what I was told:
    - Replacement : Not possible after 30 days
    - Loaner : Not possible at Lenovo
    - Technician on site : No Unless you purchased an onsite warranty
    - Business Partners : available but they will charge
    - Replacing SSDD is not recommended its fragile and if the laptop is opened the warranty dies
    So the only option
    - Shipping back the unit for repair : available they will fix it since its under warranty
This is an expensive laptop that happen to have HW issues. I could have sent it back for repair no problem but my work obligations are keeping me from doing it

  • Too depressed to macbook air 2014 ( Battery, Hinges loose )

    Dear All,
Please help me about battery macbook air Early 2014, currently only use 7 hour for web .

    Hey Hien Duong,
Thanks for the question. You MacBook Air can have up to 12 hours of battery life. However, please keep in mind that this testing was performed with the following conditions:
Testing conducted by Apple in March 2014 using preproduction 1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5–based 13-inch MacBook Air units and preproduction 1.4GHz dual-core Intel Core i5–based 11-inch MacBook Air units. The wireless web test measures battery life by wirelessly browsing 25 popular websites with display brightness set to 12 clicks from bottom or 75%. The HD movie playback test measures battery life by playing back HD 720p content with display brightness set to 12 clicks from bottom or 75%. The standby test measures battery life by allowing a system, connected to a wireless network and signed into an iCloud account, to enter standby mode with Safari and Mail applications launched and all system settings left at default. Battery life varies by use and configuration. See www.apple.com/batteries for more information.

  • Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3Gen) Battery Not Charging (plugged in not charging)

I have a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (Gen3) Model 20BS touchscreen  running Windows 7 64 bit. The battery is not charging -- it's in a perpetual state of "plugged in not charging"  and even when plugged in, it’s losing appr 1 percent per day (down to 31%). This has happened a few times over the past 3-4 months since I got the machine, but I've managed to find things that "fixed" it (at least temporarily): - Resetting the power gauge worked once - Changing the custom battery charge threshold worked a few times - Plugging in the power cord at different stages of reboot seemed to fix it once (although not sure why / how) Based on previous thread posts, I've uninstalled and reinstalled Power Manager and then tried to run Battery Gauge Reset, but to no avail. And the reset only appears to run for about 30 sec before the system tray icon switches back to normal. Thanks in advance. Karl

  • X1 Carbon 2014 Keyboard

    Dear Lenovo,
I have always been a huge fun of the Thinkpad line, pretty much all my laptop are thinkpads. Brought both the 2011 and 2012 versions of X1 and they were great!!! I am such a heavy user I do all my work on those.
especially the 2012 X1, best in business class!
Now on to the 2013 X1, I mean seriously for a business users the keyboard here is such a deal breaker, it really broke my heart that I have to found a different brand now....
    1. no physical F-keys, I spend majority of my time on excel, this is such a issue because I enjoyed the stifness and the feeling when key bounce back to me, so I would know it registerd.
    2. double tap shift for Cap lock?! this created so much error space for user to turn accidently turn it on or off.
    3. the backspace and delete, again its very easy to one rather than the other
    4. Home, End, Insert keys, why do they have to jump around from generation to generations? everytime a new Thinkpad comes out does serious business users have to get use to your new desgins...
    5. the red pointstick really needs its own dedicate bottons, it has been there for soo many years and its been wonderful! why do you have to take those away?!
Your newly keyboard might work great on ideaPad, geared towards non-professional users... But have them on X1? I mean that is the least part of the ThinkPad you want to mess around.... it will drive all your loyal fans away.
if this type of "innovation" has to continue... at least give us the option of choicing classical desgins vs new ones...

I can't agree with this sentiment more! This new keyboard with the adaptive function keys are terrible. Why would you introduce these for a business ultrabook? Also, as a loyal Lenovo customer, why would you get rid of the separate trackpoint buttons? Combining them into the touchpad is terrible (and it feels cheap when I click it). Please stop dumbing down what is clearly supposed to be a high-end business ultrabook for consumer use! Can you bring back the old keyboard (e.g., the one that was available on the 1st Gen X1 Carbon)?

  • X1 Carbon 2014 - Unable to connect to Juniper (Junos) VPN

    Hi,
today I finally received my new X1 Carbon.
I have almost set it up, but have stumbled upon a rather peculiar issue: I am unable to connect to a Junos VPN-server. I am using the built-in Junos VPN-plugin from Windows 8.1 (accessible from the Modern UI Network settings by adding a VPN there). When trying to connect I immediately receive an error message referring to ID "0x800700A1" - path not found. That message is given even before being asked for username or password. The VPN-plugin outputs no events at all to Windows event log (even though it should add such information even when it does not find the server or there is a username mismatch).
Since I am successfully using the exact same configuration on both an MS Surface (non pro) and a Windows 8.1 Desktop computer, I am 100% certain there must be some strange network-meddling on the Lenovo system (e.g. by one of Lenovo's apps). Specifically I fear there is some system file missing or replaced.
I am able to connect using Junipers proprietary software (the "Junos Client"), however that program causes occassional problems on my other computers and is thus not my favorite solution (especially since the built-in VPN can be set to auto-activate whenever a certain IP is called upon and change Proxies on the fly, neither of which is possible with Junipers tool).
Any ideas what might cause this (or what Lenovo app I should uninstall)?
Thanks for any help in advance,
    Michael

Check out this thread (http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=5294598&messageID=6406585). The solution is there.

  • X1 Carbon 2014 Function keys not working in windows7

    Hello.
I have a brand new X1 carbon(model: 20A7-005KMD) that was installed with our company image, running windows 7.
Alle drivers in device manager has been installed, and system update is updated.
The carbon has the "touch" function keys and they only partly work.
When booting the computer i can swap between the different functions, but when i get into windows, its is "stuck" with only the options F1-F12. The F keys work, but i cant change settings by pressing the FN key on the left side og the touch display, and get sounds/brightness settings etc.
as said, this works just fine during the boot.
Any ideas what can be causing this and even more important - a fix?

    Hi Guys,
We are currently having the same issue on the X1 Carbon 20A7 models (20A7000LAU). In BIOS or during boot the function changing works without issue (limited to two (2) function screens how-ever), it stops working once you log in. If you then lock the computer you can change the functions, but then once you unlock the device, it stops working.
When the drivers are installed and the device is restart we get the above behaviour, if we uninstall the drivers the function keys will function as expected till the device is restarted. This is very strange behaviour.
On a device received by Lenovo there are 4 function changes/screens in total, we can only make two work temporarily as listed above. We have tried the following.
    1. MDT 2013 Delivered Windows 8.1 x64 image image. All drivers/software components installed from the lenovo website. We receive above issue and cannot resolve by uninstall/reinstalling.
    2. Vanilla Windows 8.1 ENT x64 image installed from Microsoft Volume Licensing portal, installed all drivers supplied from the Lenovo Website. The same behaviour is seen as above and is reproducable.
    3. We have als compared all drivers/software installed on the factory supplied model to a manually built device, still the above behaviour is witnessed.
    4. We have manually exported drivers from the X1 Carbon device from lenovo and injected them into the vanilla Windows 8.1 ENT or PRO newly imaged device, still the same behaviour above.
Please let me know what I'm missing, I'm certain this is a bug in the drivers for this model.
    Regards,
    Nic

  • X1 Carbon 2014 display

I have the brand new X1 Carbon with the WQHD display. I wiped the drive and installed Ubuntu Linux 13.10. Everything works perfectly. Sound, WiFi, camera, trackpad...all running fine with no issues. I also have a new T540p running Windows 8.1. When I compare the display on the X1 to the T540p, it is noticeably dimmer. I have the brightness cranked all the way up, but the display looks like its about 75% as bright. Is this just because the T540p has a better display panel, or is there some defect with my X1? Other than that, its an amazing laptop. Big improvement over the 2012 model.

UPDATE: Just installed Ubuntu on a new non-touch X1 Carbon. For me, the display quality seems much better than the touch version. Its sharper and brighter. Still not as good as the display on my T540p, but I am now satisfied. Thanks for the tip.

  • X1 Carbon (2014) Adaptive keyboard

I received the new X1 carbon. My IT shop had to image it with the corporate Windows 8 image (which I quickly upgraded to 8.1). My Fn keyboard is basically useless now. I tap on the Fn key and it doesn't do anything. I tap on the "configuration" key and it doesn't do anything. I assume it is because I don't have the Adaptive Keyboard app in control panel. I can't find where to download and install it from. Please help!

    Hi Abraithwaite,
If you press F1 to bios, could you change key row?
And did it work for your original win8 OS before?

  • New X1 carbon (2014) - NOT a productivity tool any more

I was a big fan of thinkpad X-serie and owned 8 or 9 of them.
Purchases nx1c and thought that it'll be my baby for next two years, but now I am thinking to return it since I buy it for work, not to use as an iPad.
Below are some pain points, and hopefully the New New X1 carbon will get right on them.
    1. Adaptive keyboard seems to be fancy idea, but works horrible
    (1) Delay introduced by switching keyboard layouts to perform some common tasks
    - e.g. F2 to rename/F5 to refresh/Alt+F4 to close/...
    - e.g. F5/F7/F9/F10/F11/F12 in coding with visual studio
    - e.g. Snipping tool is only available in browser mode, but I need it somewhere else
    (2) Delay introduced by the easiness to misclick
    - e.g. during debugging, need frequently click F10/F11/etc.. Without looking down, I can't make sure I clicked the right key, and I have to be carefully not swiped over the next key which sometimes mean I have to do the whole thing over
    (3) No way to program or delete certain layouts
    - I am not a meeting guy, may I remove the web conference layout for fast-switching between modes?
    - Snipping tool is really too limited, and I want program it call original PrintScreen, but there's NO way
    - Some features are there just for being "fancy", like swiping before webcam to go prev/next page, really wish I can replace them but again, NO way
    2. An epic fail in the keyboard change.
I am okay to put some time to get use to some minor changes, but big changes (HOME/END at left), removing some commonly used keys (PrintScreen, Break, Insert), that's too much.
    3. TrackPoint without physical buttons are far less convenient. When using TrackPoint, single tap on touchpad to click doesn't work, seems by design - but a bad one.
    4. Touchpad: tap with the side of thumb will easily move the mouse cursor upwards and away from the original target position.
    5. Windows8 displays horribly in high dpi
    6. The power adapter for old thinkpads doesn't work with nx1c, but no adapter tips are available
    7. 9 hours? I got slightly over 5 hours max.
In short, the designer goes too far to make nx1c slim and fancy, and now it is not a productivity tool anymore.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I can't really share any of the complaints.
Compared to my T430s this is just the machine I was looking for. Although I tweaked the T430s into a dual SSD machine (getting rid of a useless CD/DVD combo) I was looking for something slimmer and lighter. The X1 Carbon has a wopping 500G SSD (more than the dual I had) has a far better screen (the T430s has horrible viewing angles and colarization due to the TFT) the IPS is so much better. I don't see any bleed on the side of the screen either.
The X1 shaves off 500g, and is much tinner (but has less ports). The one thing I liked, very much, on the T430 are the connection at the back instead of front, but I think I can live with the power plug sticking out at the left side, although that is were my mouse is.
No; I pretty happe with the Fedora 20 on my X1

  • Mini-DP on X1 Carbon 2014 Not working.

    Hello,
On Friday I received my new X1 Carbon Model (20A7) with the WQHD non-touch display. I have used two different HP 27" ZR2740w displays (one at a time) using the Mini-DP port on the device. This is the same setup I had with the previous gen X1 Carbon and it worked fine outputting to the 27" monitor, I also tried a new mini-DP to Display Port cable for the monitor, (three cables and none of them worked).
I then went into the Lenovo Thinkvantage tools and downloaded everything it had available. Then went to Windows Update and got everything there that was available. Tested again, no go. I then uninstalled the Intel graphics driver, booted into pretty VGA mode, then re-downloaded the Intel driver from the Lenovo site reinstalled and no go. The BIOS on the computer updated, there are no addiitonal driver or application updates to download at this time.
Now I am thinking that the hardware is bad because I believe that the laptop can support a second 2560x1440 resolution display externally.
This is with Win7 and the factory image.
Does anyone have any thought on this?

It should be plug and play. If it doesn't work out of box, it usually points to a hardware issue. The only other test I would recommend us to reset the system to factory condition and see what happens.
