X1 Carbon (3rd Gen, 2015) HDMI audio issue

Hi,
i recently used my X1 to connect it to my TV via HDMI. It worked like a charm. Yesterday it stopped working (Nothing was changed. Audio was working, lid was shut. Lid was opened the other day, audio is not working...). I get a video signal, but no audio. To verify, that this is no issue on the hardware defect issue, I booted to an installed Debian and there I get an audio signal over HDMI.
After that I deinstalled the audio and graphic driver, rebooted, installed the audio driver, rebooted again, installed the graphics driver, rebooted again. Still no working audio over HDMI.
After that I tried the procedure above again but installed the audio driver first. Still no success.
The HDMI audo device does not show up in the playback device tab. Not even if I select to show me disconnected devices.
OS: Win 8.1 64bit, drivers a all newest.
What to try next? Any ideas?

You are welcome...you need not worry about the temperature...the temperature (or the boot etc.) was on the older SM 941 one problem..and also you will not have any problem with the latest  bios version on the carbon  .there is no white list in the carbon bios  etc.for the ssd's (that means you can use any ssd's on the carbon..Samsung ,Toschiba ,Intel etc..at the moment only Samsung is x4 speed and the fastest on the market) in the bios..and  the bios will detect it as a bootable drive whitout any problem...and that's the truth and fact.Best regards..

  • X1 Carbon (3rd Gen, 2015) sound in xubuntu 15.04

    I am running xubuntu 15.04 on an X1 carbon 3rd gen. Mostly works great. But sound volume is much lower than in Windows, whether through built-in speakers or through headphones. I have turned up all output devices and playback applications to 100% in the pulseaudo control panel, but it's still too quiet. If I go > 100%, it distorts. Has anyone else experienced this?

    AFAICT, it's a bit of a known issue with ALSA.
    You might want to try fiddling with the preamp in the equalizer, and set any frequencies that the speakers can't play to zero.
    FWIW, here's my foobar2000 equalizer for my W520 under Windows (no Dolby), which is a bit louder than uneqed and doesn't seem to clip audibly on most audio sources.

  • X1 Carbon (3rd Gen, 2015) questions

    Hi all
    Displayport
    The X1 Carbon 3rd generation (X1 3rd Gen) sports a mini 1.2 displayport (1.2 mDP). The 1.2 DP standard supports daisy chaining of monitors using multi stream transport (MST).
    Does this mean the X1 3rd Gen is good to power two 1.2 displayport capable monitors using just the 1.2 mDP?
    What about the internal / built-in display, can it be driven at the same time as two external monitors?
    If it is not possible with the mDP alone, is it possible to have all three (internal + 2x external) monitors driven by using the HDMI port also?
    Memory
    Is the 8GB memory limit due the lack of  >8GB modules - i.e. there is no 16Gb modules for thsi kind of use?
    Changing keyboard
    Is the keyboard a Customer Replaceable Part (CRU)? It seems to be so for the 1st generation, but I couldn't find anything for the 3rd generation.
    Thanks!

    Yes, but you'll need either a monitor with both DisplayPort input and output (you have to attach that monitor to your ThinkPad and the second monitor to the DisplayPort output of the first one) or a DisplayPort Multi Stream Transport hub. More information about daisy chaining: http://www.displayport.org/cables/driving-multiple-displays-from-a-single-displayport-output/

    Both should be possible.

    No, it isn't (according to the Hardware Maintenance Manual).

  • X1 Carbon 3rd.gen Chrome crashes on Youtube videos after Intel HD Graphics Driver 10.18.14.42 update

    Hi!
    Chrome crashes at Youtube videos after Intel HD Graphics Driver 10.18.14.4206 update on Lenovo X1 Carbon 3rd.gen. Since the driver update yesterday, laptop starts suddenly to overheat enormously and become super-noisy as soon as I try to open a Youtube video , no matter on Youtube page, or a external provider with embded youtube video. Chrome becomes unresponsible and has to be terminated. Laptop continues to use fan at extreme level for abot 20 more seconds and then cools down. IE plays youtube videos without problem and all the other videos from Facebook i.e. are playing. Tried original and also Beta version of Chrome, which doesn't help.
    Kind regards,Daniil

    Hey guys, T450s user here. I think I found an even better workaround for this issue without having to disable hardware acceleration and lower the performance of Chrome as a whole. After long trial and error I found the that driver-related issue is generally narrowed-down to HTML5 acceleration for video playback. By installing the following Chrome Extension I was able to revert YouTube back to the old Flash-based YouTube player and now even 4K playback is absolutely stellar on my T450s running the latest .4222 driver directly from Intel's site! https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24964/Intel-Iris-Iris-Pro-and-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-8-1-64-bit This is of course by no means a fix of any kind but I think it is the best workaround that we have to this date without having to sacrifice performance in Chrome as a whole. Try it out guys! https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/disable-youtube-html5-pla/enmofgaijnbjpblfljopnpdogpldapoc?utm_source=chrome-app-launcher-info-dialog

  • 2560 x 1440 in VMware Workstation 11 with X1 Carbon 3rd gen?

    I've installed Windows 10 Preview in a virtual machine with VMware Workstation 11 on my X1 Carbon 3rd gen. (20BS). By default, the display in the VM is recognized as Generic Non-PnP Monitor and the highest compatible resolution I can select for it is 1920x1440, which means I have black vertical bars on both sides. Other, higher listed resolutions are: 2048x1536, 2560x1600 and 2560x1920, but what I want is 2560x1440.
    As suggested in this VMware KB article, I have added the following lines to the .vmx file:
    svga.autodetect = "FALSE"
    svga.vramSize = 14745600
    svga.maxWidth = 2560
    svga.maxHeight = 1440
    14745600 is 2560x1440x4.
    However, this doesn't work. When I start the VM, I get a dialog box telling me: "The virtual machine could not be changed to the selected monitor layout."
    Is anyone able to run a Windows VM at 2560x1440 on an X1 Carbon with VMWare Workstation 11?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I found the solution here: disable 3D acceleration.
    This is done by changing the following line in the .vmx:
    mks.enable3d = "TRUE"
    to:
    mks.enable3d = "FALSE"
    I'm now able to run Windows 10 Preview at the full 2560x1440 resolution supported by my X1 Carbon, great!

  • 3rd Gen 40GB iTunes Sync Issue

    I have a 40GB 3rd Gen Click Wheel iPod that has functioned without a single issue since purchase in 2003. It has been a long while since I updated any of the music, so I plugged it into my computer using the firewire cable that it came with. The iPod will begin charging immediately, but when I open iTunes (latest 8.2 version) it will not recognize that there is an iPod connected. I've tried this on both my PC (XP) and my Powerbook (10.4) with the same results. I've tried the Menu/Play button reset, also putting it into Disk Mode. I would appreciate any info/suggestions, since I'm stuck with my playlist from 2005!

    I'm having the same problem. Trying to use my old 3G 20 gig iPod to dedicate to my car stereo which has a usb port, supporting the iPod interface. Works fine via usb but wont charge. Is there an usb to firewire adapter so I can use my old firewire dock cable? Or is it a voltage issue? I hate when standards change. I understand that USB gives apple a greater potential market, but come on! The old stuff should still work!

  • HDMI Audio issue / Strange aplay -l output

    I've yet to get HDMI audio output to work correctly. I've tried the advice to use aplay -l to find my card/device number, but my output seems different from every other one I've seen online. To my knowledge, I have the proprietary NVIDIA drivers installed correctly.

    there has been additional data to allow the user to determine which device. I've tried to play audio using aplay through each device and none produce sound output. I have a Windows drive on this computer on which sound works, so it isn't a hardware issue. Anyone know how I can fix this?
    Update: After some more research, I've been able to force white noise through with:
    sudo speaker-test -Dhw:1,7 -c2
    I can also force aplay to play a .wav file. But after multiple go's trying to configure asound.conf, I can't seem to get anything else to play.

    i had the same problem the device you need to use is propably 9 install alsa-utils if you havent and run alsamixer then select the Nvidia device and check if all 4 of them are unmuted (the last three will probably be muted...)
    You can unmute them with M after that test the devices again with aplay

  • HDMI Audio issue with Samsung Plasma

    Hi all,
    I have a mid 2010 Mac Mini that I bought for my HTPC. I am unable to get the HDMI audio to work after trying a number of connection possibilities. Here's the setup -
    Mac Mini to Samsung via HDMI cable (1.3a) in either HDMI port - no audio
    Mac Mini to Samsung via HDMI cable currently working for my uverse service - no audio
    Mac Mini to Insignia LCD via HDMI cable in either HDMI port- no audio
    I thought it was hardware, so I made a genius appointment and took it in. They gave me a new mini. Same exact issue.
    When I switch to SAMSUNG in the sound properties, it tells me "The selected device has no output controls"
    Video works fine.
    What am I doing wrong? Did I just get two bad boards? This is really freaking annoying.

    I have the same issue... perfect image on a Samsung TV UE32EH5300, but no sound. I tried changing the input name to HDMI/PC (and tried all others) with no success.
    Altough I noticed one rare thing. I opened Mountain Lion AudioMidi Configuration and selected the HDMI output. Can't move the volume controls because these are supposed to be controlled on the TV. But when clicking at the Speaker configuration and making a test for L/R speakers... each TV  speaker (connected by HDMI) reproduced statics.
    THEN I'M CONFUSED!!!!... how can I hear sound produced by the computer but can't have the normal audio on HDMI???
    Any help???

  • HDMI Audio Issue/Radeon Grapics Card [Solved]

    Hello All,
    New user to Arch, been using linux for a little while longer. I'm trying to set my HDMI out as default output, but cannot seem to make it work. I've tried the wiki, forums, and websearches, but none of the methods (and variations thereof) seem to work for me. The hw must work, for I am listening to music as I type via HDMI, but I must go into VLC>Audio Output>HDMI. So if someone could help me out, walk me through it, I would appreciate it very much. I'll post some info below, sorry in advance if it's not everything needed. If you want to assume I am a complete n00b/idiot, I will not be offended. Thanks in advance!

    OK, I think I've got a resolution. I used a combination of several wikis to get it right, mainly:
    ALSA-Gentoo Wiki
    ALSA-Arch Wiki
    ATI#HDMI Audio-Arch Wiki
    Kernel Parameters-Arch Wiki
    I searched a number of other pages I don't remember right now, but these were the most helpful as I recall. I again added "radeon.audio=1" to /etc/default/grub per the "Kernel Parameters" and "ATI#HDMI Audio" Arch Wikis. I then modeled  my ~/.asoundrc to match the Gentoo Wiki example, with a slight tweak to fit my hardware. That file now looks like this:
    GNU nano 2.2.6 File: ~/.asoundrc
    pcm.!hdmi {
    type hw
    card 0
    device 3
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave {
    pcm "hdmi"
    It's been a few days, with rebooting everyday, and so far so good. Audio programs (eg. VLC) and flash content are working just fine. However, speaker-test & aplay -D give no errors and the scripts run, but no audio is actuallly produced. ??? Is this a problem, or can I continue to ignore it?
    Anyways I consider this pretty much resolved, and hope this helps anyone else with this issue. Cheers!!!

  • 3rd Gen nano (RED) screen issue

    I've just got my 3rd Gen nano (RED) but it seems that there is an issue with the backlight of the screen. Initially, when I tried to charge it with my MacBook with the USB cable, it didn't charge at all. I have to plug it into the power adapter to get it charging.
    Also, I have to press the screen to get the backlight to "work" otherwise I can hardly make out what's on the screen.
    What can this be? Also, is it a case of the iPod being fully drained of power? Please help! I'm getting this as a Christmas present for my girlfriend

    To address the charging issue, make sure you are connecting the ipod to a high powered USB port (2.0) for it to properly charge on your computer. Often these ports are on the back of the computer, not on the front or the keyboard.
    Yes, if your ipod is very low on battery charge the backlight will not come on.
    Also, you should not have to touch the screen to turn on the backlight. In fact if it comes on when you touch the screen it is defective. It is only supposed to come on when you touch the clickwheel.
    You should probably check to see what you have your backlight settings set to on the ipod. I have mine set to 10 seconds, so it comes on when I touch the click wheel and the light turns itself off after 10 seconds. If this is the behavior you see on your ipod, it is working fine. If you want to extend the time it stays on, you can set it to stay on longer under the settings. be advised the backlighting does use battery power, and your playlife may be affected by having the backlight on a lot.

  • Mac mini 2011 HDMI audio issues

    What are the known issues with HDMI audio with Lion and the new Mac minis?
    I'm in the process of swapping out an older Mac mini that was connected to my home theater (Pioneer SC-05 reciever, Pioneer TV), with a new 2011 i5 Mac mini.  The old Mac required use of a minidisplay port to HDMI adapter, and a toslink adapter to get audio to receiver through an optical cable.  Previous setup was working fine, but with the new 2011 Mac mini swapped in with the direct HDMI connection to the Pioneer SC-05 receiver, I'm not getting 5.1 audio.  The video is fine and is being passed through to the TV, but the receiver is only doing dolby prologic audio, even though the movies are Dolby Digital 5.1.
    I'm using Plex .934 on the Mac.  Audio on the Mac is set to HDMI.  Plex is set to Dolby (AC3) digital capable receiver, etc.

    Hi All, I have the new 2011 macmini to replace the 2010 version. I had issues with HDMI sound as well, but it turns out the issue lies in having AND the HDMI cable in AND a toslink/headphones cable.
    In the 2010 version you could select the Sound output to go via HDMI or Analog.
    In the 2011 version (if you have plugged-in a cable in the headphones) the HDMI sound output is impossible to choose. It is only selectable when you have unplugged the headphones cable. So what is the use of the Output settings if you cannot select anything if you have more than 1 output.....
    The guy form AppleCare told me this is a firmware bug that 'should' be solved.....
    When I unplug the headphones and start a movie in Movist, I have DTS and DD. With VLC it does not work, but that has to do with the upgrade to Lion (see the VLC forum).
    I assume the firmware upgrade will come soon otherwise I will be VERY dissapointed in Apple quality this time and will certainly stop buying new Apple gadgets when they come out. As this was the reason why I switched from Microsoft to Apple......

  • X1 carbon 3rd gen, lcd panel upgrade

    Hello,I have a X1c 3rd gen with the FHD TN-panel. I don't like this panel very much, and would like to upgrade it. What options do I have, and where do I find the parts?If at all possible I would like to get the WQHD with touch panel. Can I install that on my X1c?Second option would be to get the non-touch WQHD IPS screen.  Thanks,Jonte

    There are no panels manufacturer p/ns or Lenovo service p/ns (FRU) on the site. So, if that site clames panels compatibility with x1c gen3, the IPS screen looks like a proper choice, its price matches the such screens.
    My only question is a screen surface type. X1C FHD non-touch screens laptop supports are anti-glare (have a look at the fru_bom file above), while the site promises glossy surface for the IPS screen. At the same time the IPS screen at the bottom (out of the stock) is matte. So, obviously it's needed to request the panels manufacturer p/n and Lenovo FRU the site offers..

  • I have an iPod 3rd gen, and the audio jack plays distorted music?

    If I don't tightly hold the headphones into the iPod it won't play music/sounds clearly. My warranty is up and I'm not sure what to do. If I send it in to Apple, will they give me back a 3rd gen 32 gig iPod touch (the same info as the one I currently have) or will they give me back a nano or something that's worth less money? Help me, please and thank you:)

    Apple will exchange it for the same model/capacity for this price:
    Apple - Support - iPod - Repair pricing
    A third-party place lke this one is less expensive. Google for more places.

  • X1 Carbon 3rd Gen & Windows 10 Issues

    apologies wrong forum

    Hi Mohassan903 and welcome to the community,
    I have an X1C 3rd generation and how I did it was I used my recovery drive and reset the machine to factory.  The Win 10 upgrade showed up right away, (Windows 8.1 wasn't installed yet) and I let it do the upgrade.
    I'm not seeing any of the issues that you are seeing.  Windows 10 is lightning fast and so far, I don't have any issues with it.  My battery life during a download shows to be almost 8 hours.
    Did you do the bios update that has support for Windows 10?
    I just now put Windows 10 on and I'll continue to test it, but right now I don't see any issues with it.
    Regards,
    Dave

  • 3rd Gen iPod Touch Rotation Issues

    Okay, so just this afternoon I just started playing Temple Run when I noticed the problem. When I tried to tilt the device to collect the coins on the far left or right side, the character wouldn't move at all. I thought it was just a problem within the game until I went to play Tap Tap Revenge 4, where I had to shake the device to hit the arrows and get 8x bonuses and such. When I shook the device to hit the arrows or get the 8x bonus, nothing happened. Frustrated, I went to check some of my other apps to see if there was a problem. Now here's where the Landscaping problem comes in (and everything gets kind of confusing). I'll number the problems so it looks a little neater.
    Some Landscape-oriented apps (ones that don't offer a portrait-style gameplay or usage) worked while others didn't. For example, Mega-Run would work while Highway Rider (free game I found off of the App store) wouldn't.
    When I went to Google and tried to go into Landscape mode to use that keyboard (as I usually do) it wouldn't rotate.
    When I went to the pre-installed Videos app to test a video it automatically set the video in Landscape mode (though I was holding it Portrait-wise) but wouldn't switch to Portrait
    My mom has a 4th Gen iPod Touch and everything works perfectly on hers. It may also be noted that I dropped my iPod on my sister's carpeted floor (though thinly carpeted) yesterday. My biggest fear is that I may have knocked something loose on the inside from the drop. It wasn't that far a drop, maybe a two and-a-half foot drop, and, like I said, on a carpeted floor. Everything was working fine yesterday before the drop, which seems to be the cause.
    Like it's said above, it's a 3rd Generation iPod Touch and I've had it for about a year now, though it may be older than that. It's currently running the newest iOs, 5.1.1 and is in pretty good condition (other than an ealier drop that somewhat jammed the power button). I tried turning it off and then back on and soft-resetting the device to no avail. If anyone can provide me with answers, suggestions, or even has been having the same problem, please come forward. I'd be extremely greatful!

    - Next to the battery indicator in the upper righ is the an circle with padlock inside? If so then the screen-rotation lock is turned on. To turn off double click the Home button and swipe the botton row fully righ past the Muis controls and tap the cirecled padlock
    - Next try the standard fixes:
    --- Reset. Nothing is lost
    Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    --- Restore from backup
    --- Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    If you still have the problem then you likely have a hardware problem and an apointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
