X1 Carbon unable to restore from Facotry Recover CDs Win 8

I have been given an X1 to recover to Windows 8 from the CD's shipped from Lenovo.  The device had windows 7 on it, so the recovery partition was blown away.  I have followed the steps in the guide that comes with the CD's.  It boots up to the Lenovo splash screen briefly, then goes black and reboots.  Any thoughts on how to get it to boot off of the CD's?

Hi,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
Repeatedly tap the F1 key when turning on the computer which will open the setup utility. Use the arrow keys to select Startup. Depending on your computer model, select Primary Boot Sequence, Boot, or Startup Sequence. Select the CD/DVD drive as the first boot device. Press F10 to save and exit.
Please refer the below links to understand how to perform a recovery process.

Hope this helps!
Best regards,
Mithun.

  • Help Upgrade to Maverick fails - now unable to restore from time machine as well

    Hello,
I have an iMac (2008) which was running snow leopard. The App store reminders to upgrade for free to Mavericks got me today and I decided to go with the upgrade. After the down load of the s/w and while rebooting, it prompts for user id and password.
My iMac has always had an user id and a password. But strangely it would not accept the valid password for the user id. I have retried it several times and it will not accept the password. Not knowing how to proceed, I wanted to revert back.
So I pop in the Snow Leopard bootup DVD and when it starts, I connect to my wifi and choose utilities to perform a time machine restore. The backup was done just prior to my upgrade to mavericks. I am able to mount my external network storage and locate the time machine backup and choose the disk to restore to and the process starts and after a few minutes it aborts.
There is a log file that is shown - but the contents are not easily understood.
Now I have and iMac that is not functional. I am looking for some help.
I would be open to installing Mavericks from scratch - but I do not have the bootable USB. I would like to use my network drive and use that to start my computer with Mavericks and then possibly extract the data from my time machine backup. I am hoping that the restore of my data files / pictures / documents etc can be restored from time machine.
Any ideas how I can proceed from here? Thanks in advance.

    MichelPM,
Have been offline all along. I resorted to your advice and went with installing Snow Leopard on the external hard drive booting the system on that.
I first tried recovering my Time machine backup - but did not work. So I ended up installing Mavericks on the internal hard drive on my iMac first. Then I was able to connect to my Time machine backup and restored all my data and documents. I chose not to recover the applications. The only useful app that I used was office for mac 2011. I went to microsoft's website to do a fresh install of office for mac 2011 and I am back in business.
Overall a painful way to get an upgrade done. On to my next task - preparing a bootable drive with Mavericks and to back up on Time machine.
    Thank you for your suggestions.

  • Unable to restore from backup

    Hello everyone,
I have a small problem that I can't seem to find a solution to. I have 3gs that I sync with my Dell laptop running Win7 and I'm using ITunes 9. When I go to sync, everything syncs fine, backups are creating and it seems that there are no problems. No errors are given once the sync/backup are complete. The other day, I needed to restore from backup. Here's where the problem comes in. After a minute or so of ITunes telling me it's restoring, I get a window that pops up saying something along the lines of "unable to complete restore because the backup session failed." I had about 6 backups available and they all came back with the same error trying to restore. After reading about this problem here in the forums, some have suggested turning off anti-virus software, making sure certain programs have been given access in a firewall. I've tried to sync with AV turned off, Firewall correctly set and even turned off and then continue with restoring, but i continue to receive the same error trying to restore. Any ideas on what might be happening?? I've saved my directories with backups and reisntalled ITunes, still no progress.. Thanks in advance for any ideas..

My mid 2011 imac had been working fine. I needed to restore to an early version. I have attempted to do so using the comman + R function during boot up. I followed the directions provided. However, after a while this shows up:

Please help. I need to get my imace working again asap with all my information.

First, to the why. Shear silliness. It's a long story, but I needed to access a website that was cached to view its source code (long story) but only the version in the cache. Unfortunately, I opened that website after the important code had been removed thus removing the old cache version (it's one of those sites that saves only your most recent visit). In an effort to retrieve this information I had the not so brilliant idea to restore my computer. I didn't realize at the time that I propably could solely restore just the cache and not the entire machine. However, in my mind it should have made no difference. Just simply restoring from a backup. Afterall, thats why we backup.
Second, how early? To a version 12 hours younger. So, everything should have been up to date.
    Here's some even newer information:
Last night, before your reply, I was able use the command + R function on boot up again. This time I reinstalled the operating system using wifi. The computer is now working, but did not restore. During the installation I was given the option using migration assistant to use my most recent backup. I did this, following the directions given (it's pretty simple--just click when it tells you to). Despite it saying that the migration worked my computer doesn't have any of my old stuff.
I really need to get my info back. I had thought this is why we use time machine and allow it to backup my system a billion times. Its very frustrating that this is not working.

  • Unable to restore from my icloud backup

I backed up my 3gs via iCloud and purchased a new 4s. I was expecting to be able to restore from my iCloud backup, but when i tried, it said there was no backup information. I did reset the 3gs before attempting to get the restore started on the 4s. Could that have deleted my backup? I don't think it should have, but I'm not sure why else my iCloud backup is gone. It's screwed me pretty bad. I lost a lot of information!
    Help!

I had  the same problem, too (but when switching from 4 to 4S).
Reason: The iPhone 4S had firmware 5.0.1, whereas the older iPhone 4 was updated to 5.1 already. The backups are incompatible and hence not shown!!
Solution: First update the 4S to the same (or newer) software version, then restore from the backup.
The update is possible without using iTunes, just update "OTA" ("over the air") from within the iPhone (General -> Settings -> Software update)

  • Unable to restore from Time Machine Backup

    Hello,
My system recently crashed after removing the Boot Camp partition for Windows!
But No problem because I have everything backed up on my Time Capsule!
But actually there is a problem... I inserted my Mac OS X 10.5 Installation disk and tried to restore from a backup done on Mac OS X 10.6.1...
After 3 hours it told me that the restore was sucessful but when I restarted, a grey screen appeared and told me to restart again... And I keep getting that screen each time I try to boot.
I tried to repair the disk using disk utility but still getting the problem!
Can it be caused because the backup was made on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.1) and I am trying to restore using a Leopard disk (10.5)?
    Thanks in advance.

I had the exact same issue, and thought I was safe with my computer backed up. After failed attempts to restore with the 10.5 disk I got my 10.6 Snow Leopard disk back off my friend. I erased the hard drive and reinstalled Snow Leopard, thinking I could use the migration assistant. Not so, since I had renamed my hard drive from Macintosh HD to a different name, there was but one backup I could choose from which was 10.5.6 or something like that and that was right when I first got my computer. So now I thought: oh now I have Snow Leopard installed on here and I have the Snow Leopard disk, restoring should work. Six hours later it was at 71% telling me it could not restore files. THIS IS INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING. So right now my computer is yet again going through the unneccessarily arduous journey of erasing it's hard drive and restoring from a backup of 10.6, not 10.6.1 which was made in September. Any help with this failure of Time Capsule and Time Machine would be appreciated. I had to type this on my iPhone since I don't have any computer at the moment. :'(
Try doing a full system restore from your TM backups. See the instructions in item #14 of the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip* at the top of this forum.

  • Unable to restore from Time Machine

    Hi
I'm having some problem restoring from Time Machine. Here are the steps i've taken to do that but it won't boot after restoration.
Macbook Pro, 2011 Model with 10.7.3.
    1. My Mac have 3 partitions (MacHD, Drive A, Drive B) - MacHD has Lion and all other apps, A & B are for my stuff like music, movies etc...
    2. I backed it up using Time Machine but in the option I only back up MacHD (A & B) are not backed up.
    3. Restarted and Command-R into Disk Utility
    4. Erase MacHD using DU. Note: I enabled FileVault so once that's done, its locked but it can be unlock from Disk Utility
    5. Restore from TimeMachine, now here's the problem
Once time machine is finished, it reboots my Macbook but keeps going back to the set up screen.
I tried to change the start up disk but this is the error i have is this “you can’t change the startup disk to the selected disk. Building boot caches on boot helper partition failed”
    Now i've tried these steps
    6. Tried to use  http://d43.me/blog/126/building-boot-caches-error-when-changing-startup-disk/ --> by going into Terminal but still doesn't work
the command in that help doesn't work, sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist
    7. Tried Reinstall Mac OS X but the screen come up and said 103days 40hrs to dl the god darn Lion (note I have Lion installESD.dmg stored on Drive B, is it possible to access that and install from drive B?)
    8. Can't seem to find the Lion Recovery partition, how can i boot into that? When hold Command-R, it boots into Internet Recovery for 15 misn then go back to the choose languague and the 4 options (restore from TM, Reinstall OSX, Disk Util and somethign else I can't remember)
Basically I want to either restore from my TM back up to current state or re-install new OS X to the MacHD without wiping out the whole drive.
    Thanks for your help.

Yes, but you would need to erase/reformat the hard drive to re-install Snow Leopard.

  • Unable to restore from Time Machine after an erase and reinstall - MacbookPro cannot access my old Time Machine backup volume. Desperate for help please?

My MacbookPro would not move past the Apple logo and spinning wheel for a number of hours.  After trying the numerous suggestions to solve the issue I eventually opted to erase and reinstall feeling confident my Time Machine backups would come to the rescue.  After a successful erase and reinstall I tried to restore all my data from my TIme Capsule using Command-R during start up and by using the Migration Assistant.  Neither worked and I have received messages to the effect that the backup volumes on my Time Capsule cannot be access because I have entered a wrong password or because the backup volume is damaged.
When I open my Time Capsule in Finder and click on my sparsebundle I get an eror message saying that the disk image could not be opened and that the resource is temporarily unavailable.
Desperate for some help and comfort that many years of personal data have not been lost.

    Hi,

    STK 5320 (1.0.215.199)
WindowXP System where the volume of the STK 5320 is maped (1.0.0.185)
When restoreing a tape from Overland tape library using baracuda to STK 5320 maped volume we are getting the following log on the STK 5320.
We have checked the permission and access status for the spdtest the are in full permission and read/write resp.

I opened the package and see lots of projects == are the projects in the Vault sufficient so that if I want to get the images and things out of those projects that would work?? In other words, skip the restoration totally and just open package contents and click and drag out of there?

  • HT201210 Everything is up to date & yet my phone has gone from not being able to update to now being in recovery mode & unable to restore from iTunes

Okay so I'm based in Australia & own a iPhone 5s
So sometime this faternoon my pohone was perfectly fine. Had my usual signal per suaul when all of a sudden for 8hours my phone started searching for a signal. I asked friends and they had no problem with there phone. So I went to my phone provider for helo (Telstra) & basically all they told me was to do what I told them I was doing. I tried updating my phone to see if that was the cause of the probelm but what happened? iTunes said that it was unable to update & you guessed it & put it in bloody recovery mode! I go to restore it & yes you guessed it again iTunes had an error with that. Was the link it sent me to help? Nope, I had done all of it., My phone is un-accessilbe & iTunes is doing nothing at all

    There is nothing to backup.
If the device is showing the Connect to iTunes screen, there is nothing on the device to backup.
The first step in the update process is a backup... restore the device using that backup and try again.

    Hello:

    (image link removed)
I have used Lenovo Rescue / Recovery to make a full disk image backup to DVDs for installation of SSD drive.
Attempting to boot from Rescue / Recovery DVD appears to load Windows files, start Windows then goes to this Lenovo R&R screen:

No menus show up asking to restore anything, in about 5 seconds it shuts down and reboots again over and over.
I did have BIOS 2.01 and upgraded it using Lenovo BIOS boot DVD upgrader, now is 2.05 and same result.
Factory reset would be OK, but tI paid extra for Windows 7 pro "downgrade" (ironic, no?) that I would like to keep.  System restore disks that came with theunit are for Windows 8.1 .

FYI that error is known as a "kernel panic", typically software related but potentially hardware related.
I recommend starting with a clean install (erase the hardware, and reinstall Mac OS X). Do not transfer/migrate any data yet. After you have created a new user account, test the computer to ensure the hardware seems responsive. If computer performance is positive, use Migration Assistant to began migrating your backups to your computer.

  • IPhone 4 (iOS 6) text messages disappeared and unable to restore from itunes. There's more...

I decided against upgrading to iOS7 on my iPhone 4, however I did download some of the latest updates for my apps (which I assume were iOS 7 updates). The next day, all my text messages disappeared.
I tried to restore my phone through iTunes, but it refused to sync. And then it refused to restore completely. I thought I might need an upgrade on iTunes to allow it to talk to my phone. However, iTunes refuses to believe there are any new versions available ( I haven't updated it since early 2013, so I'm sure there's been updates).
I have since been unable to back up my phone and now I'm afraid of:
    1. Losing all the new text messages and data I've since accumulated in the last few months and been unable to back up.
    2. Losing the old text messages and data stored through iTunes on my mac.
Any advice would be appreciated. How can I sync everything back up? Or at least make sure my old data is saved somewhere without risk of erasing and then somehow get my phone to sync with itunes again.
I suspect that the app updates may have brought this on.
    Looking forward to your advice!
