X1 Touch: Connecting ThinkPad X1 to projector using mini displayport to VGA adaptor.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Touch, 3443-CTO , i7 with 8GB ram.
using Minidisplay port to vga. will not connect to any projector with cable longer than 1 meter.

you would need a vga signal booster/repeater, which should boost the VGA signal for VGA cable as long as 50 m. The device is around 50 to 250 USD depending on the brand, number of vga ports, etc.

  • Can't connect MBP to LCD projector using DVI-TO-VGA adapter

I am trying to connect my MacBookPro to a Hitachi CP-X885 projector, which I normally connect an IBM Thinkpad to at 800x600 or 1024x768. I also use my MBP and the VGA adapter to connect to other LCD projectors and monitors (so my adapter works, as well as both systems, projector, cables, etc.). Problem is, that when I connect my MBP to the projector (I have to connect it via VGA as there is a 250 foot cable that goes to the front where the rear-projection takes place). When I do the "detect displays" nothing is detected. I also connected directly to the projector using a shorter cable, same thing (doesn't detect it). So, is the projector not supplying some type of signal to the output, that the MBP wants to see?)... is there a way to FORCE the MPB to have output? I know that if there is signal, it will display (we have LOTS of notebooks that display to the projector just fine, BUT have SEVERAL MBP's, and NONE of them will detect, and we've tried several adapters (just to be sure)... HELP!... is there some way to FORCE output from the MBP instead of it having to DETECT IT???
    Thanks!

  • I need to connect a computer monitor to my MacBook Pro but have found that when using the mini display port to VGA adaptor the screen display on my macbook is very small font. Please what do I do to correct this?

I need to connect a computer monitor to my mac book pro, using a mini display port to VGA adaptor. But have experienced a drastic reduction in font size on my

    18. What is the maximum resolution available for use with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter?
The resolution available with the Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter is 1920 x 1200. VGA displays that use higher refresh rates (such as 85 Hz) at resolutions of 1600 x 1200 or greater may not generate video properly until you lower the refresh rate.

If the detect displays option is not available, hold down the Option key while you are in the Display pane.
How do I select additional resolutions on my display?
You can use the Display pane of System Preferences to specify how your display works. Not all options appear for all display models. By default the best resolution for your display will already be selected in System Preferences.
To select a different resolution, use the Scaled option. Some additional resolutions may be available when you hold the Option button.

  • MacBook suddenly won't detect my display, Using Mini Display Port to VGA?

MacBook suddenly won't detect my display, Using Mini Display Port to VGA?

dohdoh1985, I have the exact same problem also! I recently bought a 42" RCA LCD TV. I connected my MacBook Pro to my TV using a Dynex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter that I got from BestBuy. It worked great until I upgraded to Mac OS 10.6.4 and then it suddenly stopped working. Same TV, same settings, same cables, same adapter. Nothing changed since the last time it worked except that my OS was upgraded to 10.6.4, so i am assuming that is the culprit. The symptoms are EXACTLY the same as what dohdoh1985 described; when I plug in the TV, the laptop display flashes (3 times) as though it is detecting an external display and the picture on the TV briefly goes from blue to black for about 1 second then back to blue. The TV does not appear in the display menu / control panel and there is no sign that the MacBook detected it. I went through the usual troubleshooting steps (reset PRAM, checked connections, tv settings, etc) but nothing worked. Other HDMI sources (i.e. Blu-ray player) work fine on the TV using the same HDMI cable on the same port so there is nothing wrong with the cable, the TV or the TV's input settings.
Meanwhile, I can still connect my MacBook to my external ViewSonic monitor at work without any problems. It's just the TV that's not working.
I cancelled my cable subscription a while ago since I only watch shows online nowadays and this was my only way of watching TV shows, so I'm quite upset.
    Apple, please help!

  • X1 connectivity problem with old VGA beam projector using mini displayport to VGA adaptor.

    Hi all,
I would like to ask you how to connect this X1 with VGA projector as well.
actually, X1 has a external interface specification as  mini displayport 1.1a.
So I bought mini displayport to VGA adapter from MAC store.
(Actually, Lenovo Korea office doesn’t sell this adapter directly on Korea, even in the future.)
and try to connect both of LED monitor and beam projector.
LED monitor was worked as well. but, this adaptor doesn't work with VGA projector. TT
Please help me how to work this adaptor with projector as well.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi everybody. I was having the same issue here, but I bought a Mac minidisplayport to VGA adapter. It worked on my Monitor but it was not working on my clients VGA beam projectors. But today I figured out a way to make it work, and it is pretty easy; just change your laptop screen resolution.
When you connect the mini Dport to VGA adapter to the projector VGA receiver cable, just change your laptop screen resolution to 1024x768 (maximum) and the projector will receive the signal with no problem.
This is the best solution that I found, because is easy to find a Mac/Apple Mini display Port to VGA adapter.
Hope this works for you too.

    J.

  • Can i connect my cintiq 12wx to my Macbook pro 2011 through the thunderbolt using the mini display port to vga adaptor?

I just bought my cintiq 12wx and was wonderding if i can connect it to my macbook pro 2011 through the thurderbolt using a mini displayport to vga adaptor? Please help!

Yes, it should work with a mini-displayport to VGA adapter.  Since a 12wx also can take DVI you could use a mini-displayport to DVI adapter instead.  Why go analog when you can keep it in digital!
I guess the usb is for the pen.

I have a MacBook Pro(Mid 2012, running  OS X 10.9.4) and I recently just bought a mini display port to VGA adapter so I could hook it up to my dynex TV but when I connect everything my TV says no signal.  Do I need to do something in settings?

  • Connecting Portege Z10t to projector using VGA

    Hi there.
I'm having an issue connecting the Portege Z10t to a projector via VGA.
    Its fine via HDMI.
The resolution changes on the screen to something like a 4:3 ratio.
It then comes up on the projector, stays for 10 seconds or so then bombs out.
I've tried multiple resolutions but no joy. We're running windows 8.1
I've tried a few different z10t and different projectors. Other laptops running windows 8.1 are fine, it only seems to be with the z10t.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance

First of all it would be interesting to know what resolution youve chosen for internal and external display.
The Portege Z10T series was equipped with different displays but as far as I know the max supported resolution for all displays should be: 1920 x 1080 px
If you use the extended desktop, both displays (internal + projector) could use different resolution but if you use the option clone displays then the resolution has to be the same on internal as well as on external display (projector).

  • How to connect Macbook to LG 42PQ30 using Mini DVi to HDMI??

    Hi,
I have a unibody macbook. I am using a mini dvi to hdmi(1.3b) connector to connect to my new LG 42PQ30 plasma tv. It gives me a black screen with the message "No Signal" hovering around the screen. Please let me know about any solutions that you have. Thanks.

Go into Displays preferences on the Mac and make sure a compatible timing is being sent to the TV.

  • How to connect my PB to TV using Mini-DVI to Video Adapter

I went through the posts, so I'm sure this is a stupid question, but:
I have a mini-dvi to video adapter for my powerbook, which I want to connect to my TV. What's the extra cable I need to connect the adapter to the TV?

"I'm hoping that simply connecting the two via a firewire cable will create some sort of mini-network?... but that sounds to easy..."
But it is that easy. Network the iBook and PowerBook via IP over FireWire:

The projector recognizes it's a mac, since I see the mac desktop background on my screen when I connect, but I'm not seeing my desktop.  Any ideas?

ugh...i'll be sure to let you know...i'm beginning to regret buyin a mac now...one usually spends the bucks most of have dropped for a premium machine, to actually work. I don't expect every aspect to be perfect, but simple things such as functionality of applications developed for and by the same company making the machines should work...maybe its just because i'm more than a little peeved that i'm going through such trouble to do something as simple as put two pictures next to each other and upload the site (as it appears in iweb) on to the mobileme...
I finally got it to upload, thanks Old Toad, and i got the pictures to upload...now they just don't appear next to each other as they do in iweb...i guess the good thing is that they are no longer covering text...
now i'm presented with a second problem...i add a second entry to my blog and when i click on that directly i'm taken to a page saying it is not found...but when i go to the first entry and click next it takes me to the second entry page...although that page is ALMOST correct (the links do not have the same styling i applied to them in iweb)...
and now i'm presented with a third problem...after adding the second entry i noticed on the blog listing page that my photo from the first entry did not move with it (another photo covering text problem)...so i tried using the graphic placeholder, but the image still does not show up on the main page...

  • I am trying to connect to an external projector

I have a 15" Macbook pro running Windows XP Pro bootcamp, I am trying to connect to an external projector using the Mac mini dvi to vga adaptor, I have now tried two different adaptors but still I cannot get the display to work.
Does anyone know if there is an update that needs to be installed or additional drivers that may need to be installed for this to work?
Anyone out there have any ideas?
    Thanks

Thanks to the suggestion of downloading XP Service Pack 3, the problem seems to be resolved!

  • Strange issue with external monitor, only working when external speakers plugged in (using Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor)

Hey – I am having a very strange issue with my external monitor; where it only works if my external speakers are plugged in and connected.
I am using a late 2011 Macbook pro, running Mavericks 10.9.4, along with an MBox 2 (USB Audio Interface), and two powered speakers (KRK Rokit 5). This setup has had no issues. I have just acquired an external monitor (Benq T2200HD), which I am using with a thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (a cheap Chinese knockoff adaptor).
To start - I plugged the monitor in with the thunderbolt adaptor, and it powers up and works fine. However, there is a nasty buzz coming from the speakers. I did some research and it looks like a simple ground loop issue. I did a bit of troubleshooting, and this is where things get weird.
What I found is - If I unplug the MBox, the monitor loses signal from the computer (displaying ‘No Signal Detected!’). Further, if I keep the MBox plugged in, however unplug both the cables from the MBox to the speakers, the monitor loses signal. It doesn’t matter if the speakers are turned off, however they need to be plugged in (or the monitor loses signal). Weirder still, I can unplug the MBox, however the monitor will work if I plug in the speakers through my macs headphone jack.
Simply put, the monitor only works if there is a direct connection between the computer, the speakers, and the power source.  What is going on here? Is the monitor grounding through the computer port, to the speakers (I don’t know how this works, is this possible?). Could it somehow be the cheap VGA adaptor I am using?
    Some other information:
    - Everything is plugged into the same multi-box for power. I have tried plugging things into separate sources, and the result is the same.
    - If I unplug the thunderbolt adaptor, then the speaker noise disappears straight away.
    - The ground noise doesn’t appear in my headphones, which are plugged into the MBox.
Any information would be great – am I missing something here, or is this genuinely weird?

Well, I went back into Best Buy to test on 3 other laptops (2 Asus, and their floor model for this Sony). It seems to be doing the same problem so at least I was able to rule out broken hardware issue on my particular laptop.
Here's what I did to test:
Since I couldn't really install Adobe Premiere on their machines, I used the DVIO software (http://www.carr-engineering.com/dvio.htm) and a 5 min clip I captured.  I transferred onto their machines, hooked up my Sony D8, and attempted to play the video.  It would play for 15 seconds and then stop and jitter with a loud noise (like it does on my laptop).  I even tried changing each machine's firewire driver to the legacy one and same results.  I pulled a brand new 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable off their shelf and still the same problem.
I think I've nailed it down to Win7x64 bit Home Edition not playing nice with Firewire driver.  Very annoying.  I can't find any concrete evidence of this from other users on any of the forums that have my particular problem, but from my own testing, it's all I can conclude.
I have 2 other things I can try:
    1.  Opening the laptop and looking at the firewire to maybe find appropriate driver (ugh, I don't want to have to open this thing up).
    2.  Upgrading to Win7x64bit Pro and possibly testing with XP on the new MS Virtual PC (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/).  I can't do it with my Home edition apparantly.
Who needs to view video on an external TV anyways....sheeesh...(scarcasm).
