X1 touchpad vs T440s touchpad?

My T440s has a horrible touchpad.  It's brand new and I already had to send it back to have it taken look at.  The sound is very loud and rattling.  It feels very cheap.... sort of like the spacebar button on most laptops (even MacBook Pro).  I've heard that X1 has a better/stiffer/quieter touchpad... is that true?  I couldn't find any specific details.

I've had my new T440s for about 2 months. Everything about it is excellent EXCEPT the new buttonless touchpad. It is so bad I have given up and can no longer effectively use it. I am trying to sell it this unit which paid $2,100. for. The touchpad is clunky, noisy and inaccurate no matter how much configuration I've done. This is a very disappointing, half baked attempt by Lenovo to emulate the MacBook touchpad. Shame on them for pushing this out.

  • T440s touchpad and trackpoint issue

I have a new T440s which came with Windows 8, and I upgraded to 8.1
    Nothing strange installed in it.
Sometimes touchpad and/or trackpoint don't work at all after turning on, rebooting or recovering from a suspended state.
It never fails while the system is running.
When it happens, I reboot and it works fine.
Already upgraded everything using System Update (BIOS, etc) and Windows Update.
Sounds to me as a driver issue, not a hardware issue... but I am not 100% sure.
    What should I do?
Should I reinstall any driver? How?

Uninstall the UltraNav driver from Device Manager or Programs and Features. Then run System Update; it should offer the UltraNav driver again.

  • T440s TouchPad - Tap and Drag - Where is the "locking drags" setting?

On my ThinkPad X220 TouchPad properties there is a Tap & Drap setting for Locking Drags (see below). When this is enabled you can tap twice on an item (and hold on second tap) to engage drag and then this will be locked until you tap again. The benefit of this is it is possible to use multiple discrete touchpad movements to move an item across the desktop without having to engage drag mode each time.

This feature is not specific to my X220. I find it on lots of laptops and I find it extremely useful.
However, on my T440s I can't find such a setting. Am I missing something?

I was looking for this setting too. It's extremely helpful when you need to select text. After googling around and finding little to no information I figured it out on my own. I grabbed my old laptop and compared the registry before and after checking the "locking drags" setting. All what you need to do is find the key:
    HKU\S-1-5-21-*a-bunch-of-numbers*-1001\Software\Synaptics\SynTP\TouchPadPS2TM2668,
and change the value of "Gestures" from 3 to 7. There is another similar key named TouchPadSMB2cTM2668. I was lazy to find out what key will affect the setting so I changed the valuge of "Gestures" too. After that log out / log in again or restart. It works perfectly for me.
    Hope this helps.

  • T440s clean windows 7 install - touchpad crash

    Hi,
I just got a new T440s. I was very happy until I tried to do a clean windows 7 install. Everythings seems to work fine, except for the touchpad. As soon as I install the synaptics driver (i've tried from the lenovo site, the synaptics site, and from the previous installation's file), the synaptics enhancments program crashes, and I no longer have guestures working (specifically scroll). It crashes again if I try to run it manually. When I reboot, it also crashes on startup. I've tried reinstalling the driver and even reinstalling windows once more, but to no avail.
Can anyone help? I'm going nuts...
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
As per your query on touchpad, I checked with the attached image. The symbol on the touchpad is called as NFC logo (Near Field Communication).
Please Click here to get the complete information on that, for the complete details on NFC please refer to page no 35.
    Hope this helps!

  • T440 Disable Touchpad Mechanical click?

First Lenovo product, purchased a T440.  The touchpad is really, odd I guess is the best word.  You can physically depress the entire trackpad to trigger a mechanical "click" or you can tap to click.  The mechanical click is obnoxious at best.  It's just sensitive enough to accidentally press down when moving the pointer.
Is there a way to disable this mechanical pressing?  Like a screw somewhere to lock it in place?

Where is sound exactly coming from? Is it from cursor movement area(where you move mouse cursor) or from left/right click buttons?
Also Could you please post complete product/model number of your Notebook? You can use link below to find this info

  • T440s TrackPoint/touchpad wishes

So after reinstalling the driver, my T440s Trackpoint is working as advertised, but while it was acting all wonky...something happened. The driver malfunctioned in a good way so that I could tap the touchpad with my thumb to invoke a left-click while using the TrackPoint. Normall, the driver locks out the touchpad completely while the TrackPoint is in use, so that the touchpad only functions as buttons. But the vertical travel of the touchpad is deep and it takes extra effort to depress completely each time. What's worse, the touchpad remains locked out after I move the cursor with the TrackPoint and then stop to leave it over an icon, so that I actually have to move the cursor with the touchpad before it will accept a tap as a left- or right-click.
Is there any way to force the driver to let me use taps instead of clicks to inoke left and right click while using the TrackPoint?
Also, is there any way to defeat the touchpad lockout?
In my opinion, the touchpad itself is excellent as far as Windows touchpads go. They've gotton double-tap for right-click perfectly, and two-finger scrolling is actually quite nice. But they've also overlooked an opportunity to make TrackPoint use even easier and more user-friendly than it was with physical buttons.

No, in spite of having exchanged the whole motherboard and the keyboard, the problem is not yet resolved. I also wiped windows clean to its "out of the box" state, which did not help, so I doubt it is a software issue. Two more things that got me thinking: The problem started after I started using a UMTS card in my notebook, maybe one hardware interferes with the other? Also, the problem did not appear so far when I used my computer in Windows Safe Mode, so it might be that the Safe Mode blocked some hardware that otherwise interferes with the Trackpad. I hope exchanging the Trackpad, which has not yet been done, will solve the issue... I can't believe how long this has been going on now for.
So Luosha, you never got your trackpoint to work again?

  • T440s TouchPad jerky.

    Hi,
As the title suggests, the TouchPad on my new T440s becomes jerky when I try to make precise movements.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Yes, I experienced the same problem. Two finger scrolling became unusable (way too fast and erratic) after an upgrade to UltraNav 17.0.12.60. Reverting back to 17.0.12.56 fixed the issue.
Please fix this in the next version. Thank you!

  • T440s Touchpad Hardware Fault

Just a query about the touchpad/trackpad on the T440s.
I have found that there is a ~2cm wide column on the very left of the touchpad that does not register a click when depressed. It also feels very spongey and different relative to the rest of the touchpad. As a result it makes general use, and use with the trackpoint extremely difficult as a good percentage of the time a click is not registered in this area.
I was just wondering if the touchpad is infact supposed to be like this and it is a nonissue and just a really terrible feature, and if other people have this issue?
Also would this be something that I would be able to possibly fix myself somehow - taking out the touchpad and putting it back in again for example?

    kwibatman,
This could be a hardware issue and I would encourage you to contact service after trying a few updates.
    1) We have been releasing a series of new Synaptics drivers - a release on Nov, one on Dec 17th, and a most recent one on Jan 7 here -> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS034647
    2) We have a firmware update for the touchpad here-> http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS039494
Can you apply these and see if the situation improves?
If you still have trouble after this, please give service a call to check out the hardware.
    Best regards,

  • T440s Touchpad & Lenovo Service Probleme

    Hallo zusammen,
    Markus

  • T440 series linux touchpad support

Hello, I own a t440p laptop. For work reasons i only use linux operating systems.I have been trying to set my touchpad to detect multi touch gestures. However until now I haven't been able to do so.I don't know how but three finger taps are detected, but drags are not. Is there any solution for this? I have been running arch linux (since I haven't been able to use it also under ubuntu 12.04) thank you in advance, please let me know if I can add any usefull information,Guilherme

Hello !I own an E540 so consider my response accordingly ;-)I use Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and I've tried this very same version on the T430 at work (live USB) .I had a lot of option solved by using this :https://launchpad.net/touchpad-indicatorMaybe you can use the code and compile it on your version of Linux and maybe it is already availlable for your platform.Hope this helps.

  • Windows 8.1 - T440s touchpad won't click for 1 sec after typing keyboard.

This is a well-known issue of Windows 8.1.
    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2907018/en-us
But the problem is still there even after I did what the article says.
I disabled touchpad delay and installed hotfix from MS with no luck.
So I guess MS hasn't fixed it perfectly or there is a bug in Synapics' driver.
As a programmer, I alternate between typing keyboard and clicking buttons very quickly.
So this is a huge problem to me.
Is there anybody who knows how to fix/avoid this?

Look in the Synaptics Ultranav settings. There's a checkbox for Prioritize for Trackpoint and Keyboard input. Uncheck this.
Also disable PalmCheck if you haven't already.

  • T440s UltraNav Touchpad Scroll Too Fast and Jerky

Wife purchased a T440s in November.  Arrived December.  I installed Windows 8.1 from scratch, and it worked.  Then on Friday, Jan 31st 2014, I ran the driver update tool from Lenovo.  It upgraded the driver to 17.0.12.60.  She noticed that scrolling became much more unreliable.  She could sometimes not get docs/webpages to scroll until she clicked around the page.  Then she could get scrolling to work again.  Also, scrolling speeds increased _dramatically_ to the point it was unusable.  Also, the scrolling was quite jerky.  So I rolled the driver back to 17.0.12.56 and immediately she noticed a difference.  She was able to successfully scroll again and scrolling wasn't too fast and much smoother.
Others have noticed this on Notebook Review's forum.  I'm going to ask those people to come here and add their comments.
Can Lenovo please fix the UltraNav driver?  Thanks!

Yes, I experienced the same problem. Two finger scrolling became unusable (way too fast and erratic) after an upgrade to UltraNav 17.0.12.60. Reverting back to 17.0.12.56 fixed the issue.

  • Disable right click zone of the touchpad?

Is there any way to disable the right-click zone of the touchpad on my T440s?  The lower right corner seems to be permanently mapped to a right click with one finger, which is completely unnecessary given that I use two fingers for a right click.  Disabling this would make the touchpad behavior much more predictable.

I've encountered the same problem. I found a workaround and posted the solution over at my blog:
    http://blog.davidfishman.net/2014/04/disable-lenovo-t440s-touch-pad-right.html

  • Touchpad completely unusable

This computer performs great and does everything I need it to, but only when I'm using an external USB mouse. The touchpad jumps all over the place when I try to use it, registering false clicks the whole way across the page. When I do try to click, it registers as a two finger right click. I have tried a hard reset and I've tried updating the drivers for the synaptics touchpad. I've talked to a few people I know with the same laptop and they all have the same issues with the pad. Am i missing out on any new software? Thanks!

Yes, indeed I'm talking about the keypad function that resides on the U, I, O, P (etc) keys.  Not the keypad you find on the right side of external keyboards.  The Asterix on the keypad is NOT the same as the one above the "8" key.  As we use the one on the keypad to log out of shadow sessions we can no longer log out of servers with the new T440.
This functionality was available in the T420, but no longer in the T430 and T440.  So now we HAVE to have an external keypad connected to the laptop.
Also, they made the touchpad much larger.  So if you are typing "blind" with 10 fingers, when my right thumb hits the spacebar, the bottom of my thumb makes contact with the touchpad, thus moving the pointer.  Before you know it you'll be typing somewhere in the middle of a sentence a couple of lines up.  It's horrible.
Frankly, I'm really really EXTREMELY disappointed Lenovo made these discisions.  I really can't wrap my head around the fact that the above (especially the touch pad) was not noted by Quality Control.
And why on earth did they have to change the connectors for the docking stations?  Now we have to buy all new docks.  If I had a say about this in our company we'd leave Lenovo and go back to Dell.
I am SO pissed about all of this, you have no idea.
