X11 cursor colour

I sometimes use X11 in rooted mode when I need to work on my Linux server from my Mac. Everything works, but the cursors have strange colouring which makes them virtually invisible for me against a white background. If I log into the server at its own terminal, the cursors look alright, so I assume that this is a problem with Mac OS X X11 and not with my X settings on the Linux box.
Can anyone tell me how to change the cursor colours in X11 on the Mac?

  • Mac's cursor is stuck to X11 cursor

    Put simply, my Mac's cursor is stuck as the X11 cursor. It's annoying because that cursor doesn't look as good as the regular one, so I want it back. It's just a little pet peeve I have, heh.

  • Changing cursor colour?

    I've had my mac for years and just found iweb only problem the background is black and the cursor keeps disappearing and i have to keep waving the mouse around till i find it again. is it possible to change the colour to anything but black because i cant find a way to do this in the system preferences?
    any ideas.....

  • X11 Cursor Theme doesn't display correctly [SOLVER]

    The title explains it up,
    no matter how full of a theme I try to install some pointers are not correctly displayed. Namely, click (the one displayed when you get over a link) and type cursors.
    I'm pretty sure my themes are all set but some types are showing the former themes.
    What could be missing?

  • X11 cursor not generated correctly with xcursorgen

    I need some help with the animated cursors... running:
        sudo xcursorgen left_ptr_watch.config watch
    from the source directory generates no errors, but does not create a file for the cursor?
    The folder layout is:
    ~/Path to cursor/source/left_ptr_watch/ (location of the .png files for the animated cursor)

    SOLVED IT.
    I named the animated cursor the same name as a folder in the source directory. I'm pretty retarded. Changing the folder name fixed it.

  • Gnome shell, media keys and strange X11 cursor bihaviour

    Hi guys,
    I'm new in this forum, but old arch-user. This time I'm experimenting a really strange issue.
    I have a lot of packages installed (pacman, but AUR too), and I tried some beta packet, so I don't know if this issues is caused by me, or is a sort of out-of-the-box, but this is what happens:
    During Gnome-Shell session (3.16.2 actually), if I press any media keys (my keyboard has prev-next song, play/pause, stop, vol up-down) my cursor goes hidden (all works, but I can't see pointer). If I'm in empty desktop (no opened window), after 20~50pixel in any direction I can meet again my mouse. Instead, if I have some windows open...random behavior...cursor could reappear after 50pixel mouse movement, or it could stay hidden after 4-5Kpixel. The only way to get cursor again in short time is go to gnome overview (the function linked with super key or upper-left corner, by default).
    Additional strange facts:
    - mouse is working all the time (link is focused, button is pressed, focus follow mouse event, and so on...)
    - seems gnome top bar get same effect as empty desktop (20~50pixel and cursor is visible again)
    - if I link key combination with media function (Ctrl + Up/Down for volume, for example), everything goes well
    - I have a secondary bluetooth keyboard with same media keys, but this peripheral is not affected by this issue
    Any additional informations will be provided, but first, I did my homework:

    Got is sorted myself.
    I installed KDE which worked perfectly. Then went about trying to install chromium. After installing and trying to launch chromium I noticed it would just hand unless launched by root (terminal).
    Which led me to check permissions under /home.
    Turns out that somehow my /home/{me}/.config directory was owned by root:root  . A simple chown -R ~/.config  and a reinstall of gnome got everything working fine 
    NB: maybe someone with more insight can figure how/why ~/.config was owned by root from a fresh install and setup of systemd ??

  • Changing xterm font changed cursors, reverting font doesn't fix...

    I changed my xterm font, adding
    xterm*font: -*-terminus-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
    to .Xresources, and
    xrdb ~/.Xresources
    to .xinitrc. I restarted X, and my cursors had changed. This makes no sense to me. Reverting to the default font by removing the lines above doesn't reinstate the default cursors. Help appreciated.

    I can't figure out what happened. It seems this cursor is a part of the default cursor theme. But I could swear it wasn't there before and I don't like it.

    The command does nothing. The current cursor theme is the default. To answer your other question, firefox is the only graphical app I use at the moment, and it appears over firefox. I get the big X over gimp.
    drcouzelis: I have read that page and it doesn't help. As I said, there are no custom cursor themes installed. I can set a custom cursor theme, but can you recommend one that's simple and looks like the default, but without this weird looking pointer?
    Edit: Is there a way to edit the picture for one of the cursors of the default theme? Where are the pictures for the default theme even located? They aren't in /usr/share/icons as far as I can tell.

  • Changing cursors ....problems

    Before anybody says it :
    I have searched on "howto change X11 cursors" and other similar  keywords
    My problem is that it  doesn't matter where I set the  cursor viz.  Xdefaults (when using fluxbox/openbox/icewm) or in gnome-properties (when using gnome)  the new (intented) cursor just flashes for a second or so while logging in and then changes back to the default x cursor. I have even tried changing the cursor  in the GTK or icon  theme I am using but again uselessly.
    I have installed many themes (both using pacman and copied into my .icons folder).
    Please help.

    well, you can always just change the default X cursor on a systemwide basis, by creating an index.theme file in /usr/share/icons/default/ (may have to create the default folder)
    and putting in:
    [Icon Theme]
    Inherits=[insert your cursor theme without the brackets of course]
    in the theme file. That way, your display manager will also adopt your chosen cursor theme.
    NB. This assumes the cursor theme is saved to /usr/share/icons and not the .icons folder of your user.

  • Changing the cursor theme in LXDE? (bonus: issues with icon themes)

    Hey all.
    I was looking for a simple method to do this and am totally failing. Searching LXDE and "cursor theme" doesn't get me much so I was looking at how to do it in Openbox. That involves editing the .Xdefaults file which I didn't have, and upon creating one threw everything to hell.
    I was poking at the ~/.config/LXDE/config" file and noticed it had things outlined such as my icon theme and GTK theme, but saw no option for X11 cursor. Is there somewhere for that?
    BTW, I'm sorry if I've been stupid lately with questions, I only just signed up after figuring I'd stay off the forums until I had my system 99% complete on my own and now I feel like I'm asking overly basic stuff, but honest injun I do a lot of searching before I post.

    There isn't any such file. ~/.config/openbox just has a "lxde-rc.xml" in it.

  • Problems concerning sonata playlists and freevo cover art

    Hi!
    I'm setting up a media center PC and I'm having some problems with the playlists created by sonata. Another problem I have is not getting freevo to download cover art.
    First: When ever I try to make a playlist through the "Current" tab in Sonata it creates a m3u file with every song that's listed in the current window. I'm used to being able to pick one or a couple of songs and then adding it a specified playlist. Is this impossible in sonata? And if I try to play the m3u file created (the one with every song listed) through freevo I get a message that the directory is empty. What am I doing wrong??
    Second: I'm having big problems getting freevo to download cover art to my music. I can download info on movies from imdb, but info for the music doesn't work. I store the cover art downloaded by sonata in the different album folders and these covers show up in freevo. But if I have to play every new song i download first in sonata to get the cover art working in freevo I'll go crazy. It's supposed to work the same way in freevo as in sonata isn't it???
    It also seems that mplayer can't play m3u files. Using the mentioned sonata made m3u file in mplayer does nothing. Mplayer starts but nothing happens.
    My goal is to be able to make playlists through sonata and then play these lists using freevo. I don't want to get up from the couch.

    It's clearly not impossible, just different than you expect. Create your playlist as you want it to appear in the Current tab (meaning don't dump every single song from your library in there, just the ones you want) and then save the playlist.

  • Its getting as bad as Windows...

    I switched from Windows to avoid the many OS glitches. But I get the same things on OS X. For example:
    1) The CrashDump utility crashes every time I boot! I dutifully report this to Apple, but no response or fixes. Phone support was clueless-0-told me to dump the caches.
    2) Spinning wheels = reboot. You cannot always kill
    applications, even with force quit. Doing a ps yields a state of D. This means it cannot be killed. The only solution is a reboot. I have lots of things on my system, but that is why I spent $8k on a powerful computer!
    3) Glacially slow fixes, even for security problems. For example, Apple has known about a bug in X11 cursor for over a year (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060316124704289&query=x11) and it still has not been fixed! It took 6 months to fix the critical samba vulnerability. Java is still at version 1.5.07, which is *5 versions* behind in security patches. Why don't we have version 1.6 too? I am in the Developer Association, and the 1.6 there is still a pre-release version that is buggy and also has serious security problems. Apple does not seem to like Java. Since I am a Java developer, this is a problem. At least Microsoft fixes their bugs!
    Steve Jobs is a great salesman, but I really doubt that he does power computing--otherwise some of this would be fixed.

  • Difficulties with CLASS

    I am new to JAVA and I am trying to open a CLASS file up with the studio, but its not able to read it. I am not familiar with Java all that well. Dreamweaver reads the PHP file better than the studio 11.
    Any takers for why this is??

    Force Quit .
    Press command + option + esc keys together at the same time for 3 seconds.  Wait.
    When Force Quit window appears, select the application if not already.
    Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window.       Wait.
    Application will quit.

  • Cursor changes to a coloured revolving circle

    Sometimes when I change to different web sites or If I am on a page the cursor changes to a revolving circle with rainbow colouring and I can not do anything till it changes back to a normal cursor. This varies in seconds. Hi can here the hard disk working at this time.
    What causes this and how can I stop it happening

    That usually happens when you are running low on memory. Restart the computer and Monitor your memory usage in your Activity Monitor. If you start to get a lot of "page outs," that's a clue you are running low. Also, how full is your hard drive? You need to have at least 10% of it free for virtual memory to work efficiently.
