X1200 installing an image without a cd rom drive

is proving to be a bit of an issue!
Is there a recommended method from Sun detailing how to achieve this?
We would like to install windows 2003 server on this box -

Why on earth would you NOT get an optical drive for that thing !
I can anticipate that many critical applications would fail to be installed from a network share.
They would use the physical presence of their media to validate the install process.
... and then there are critical hardware driver software packages that might be necessary for your WinOS install.

I have the CS5 installation CDs and CS5 installed on a Desktop. I want to install CS5 onto a computer that doesn't have a CD Rom drive. Is this possible? and if so, is there a link to instructions on how to perform this task?

This forum is for the Adobe Captivate application. CS5 is a different animal. I started to move this thread to a more appropriate forum, but it isn't clear to me where it should be.
One way you might try to work past things would be to use a different computer to copy the files to a USB drive of some sort. Then try inserting the USB into the discless computer and installing from there.

Using a PC. have lightroom 4 and would like to install it there but do not have a CD ROM on the new machine. Is there a way to add Lightroom to the new computer via download and by using the serial key I have?

I want to add a password to my router. I no longer have the cdrom. I own a mac. I saw firmware and a wizard to download on the linksys site but it was only for a pc. can I download from online for a mac? or does it have to be done on a pc? or should I request a new cd-rom? and if so how?

A friend recently gave me his G4, but the CD/DVD drive wasn't working, so I went to Best Buy and bought a CDRW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive by "Dynex." I installed it and the tray pops out and it appears to be doing something when I put in the operating system DVD, but the screen blinks a file folder and a question mark.
There is no operating system currently installed.
Are only certain drives compatible with this computer, or is there something I should be doing upon start-up?

Dynex is likely a brand name for the seller, not the actual drive manufacturer.
if you check the drive unit itself, it may have some other markings on in that denote the actual mahufacturer.
While all drives should work for at least reading CDs/DVDs, not all will support booting.

How to install Tiger to iBook with CD Rom drive?

My daughter has an iBook currently running OS 10.3.8, and I'd like to upgrade it to run Tiger. Unfortunately her iBook doesn't have DVD read capability, only a CD drive. How do I install Tiger onto her iBook, or is she stuck with Panther forever? I have a G4 PowerBook with Tiger installed, can I use my PB somehow to upgrade her iBook?

As long as the copy of Tiger that she has is the black retail version then there should be no problems.
Insert the DVD into the PB. Shut the PB down. Restart the PB holding the T key down until you see the big firewire Y jumping around. Connect the PB and the iBook with a firewire cable. The PB's HD and the loaded Tiger disk will appear in the iBook's Finder. Select the Tiger disk and double click on the 'Install OS X' icon. You will then be presented with a choice of destinations and a choice of installation options.
(You could, instead, start the iBook in Target Disk Mode and run the installation from the PB. Same difference.)
Providing your daughter has no problems with her existing Panther installation there is no reason why you shouldn't opt for the 'Upgrade' which will preserve all user settings, preferences, documents etc., although it would be wise to back up to another medium before you start. An external HD is ideal, but spare space in the PB would suffice for her 'Home' folder at least.
The other choices besides 'Upgrade' are Erase & Install which does exactly what it says, or Archive & Install.
Not knowing your level of expertise on Macs I don't want to possibly bore you with minutiae but feel free to ask if you're not clear on anything.

Hi, My wife purchased a boxed Lightroom 4 complete with CD and serial number as a Christmas present. However the laptop (with Windows 8) I purchsed afterwards does not have a CD drive. The question is - how do I install the program?
The program is to be used on a course in January. Please - I would like some fast advice about this question.

What you've purchased is a serial number for Lightroom 4. The box and the DVD are added extras and the software on the disk may well be out of date anyway and require updating.
Download the trial version of LR 4.3 (current version) from the Adobe website and activate that with your serial number

CD-ROM won't eject CD / system doesn't recognize CD-ROM drive

My CD-ROM recently ate a CD and now refuses to eject it. The CD does not show up on the desktop (is "unmounted"?) and resetting the PRAM and holding down the mouse and eject buttons on start-up have not been the solution to this problem.
I think the main issue is the system no longer reconizes the CD-ROM drive... so I'm unsure how to 1) eject the cd and 2) reinstall the CD-ROM But obviously I can't install without a CD-ROM drive...
Is there a driver I can download to get the drive working again? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If the drive now longer shows up in ASAP, it's dead, or the power supply to it is dead.
You will need to manually eject the CD, by inserting a straightened paperclip through the small access hole located under the drive tray; it may be on the left, center or right side. Do this with the computer off.
New drives can be had for under $40 (DVD Burners) online, CD Burners are under $25.

ROM drive dissappears after uninstalling itunes

I downloaded itunes so I could buy an album (I could only find this album in the itunes shop) and after buying it, trying and failing to burn the album to CD I gave up and uninstalled itunes in disgust. The DVD-ROM drive icon is now gone from explorer and won't reappear whatever I do. I can't even reinstall the OS (Windows 2000 pro) as the computer thinks the drive dosen't exist. I looked around online and think something called a rootkit maybe to blame that was probably in the music files as some sort of anti piracy device. This rootkit may have been affected by some other software on my PC and deleted something somewhere (yeah I know, pretty vague). I've tried everything I know including registry repair, re-installing the drivers, putting a new ROM drive in, even re-installing itunes all with no luck. Has anyone else heard of this? Please help me.

How do I create a start-up disk image without restarting from the Install DVD?

(I know this is not MacBook Pro question per se, but I can't find a software discussion this applies to.)
Situation:
My MBP is running, but it's acting up and Onyx tells me that the start-up volume needs repair and directs me to use Disk Utility.
But to repair a volume using Disk Utility, you must restart from the original Install DVD (or some other start-up volume).
But although the MBP will read my old Leopard Install DVD and the Install DVD that came with my MBP, it refuses to restart from either of them. (Trying to do so gets as far as the Apple logo on a gray screen and then hangs there; all disk activity ceases.)
Question:
How can I (is it even possible to) create a start-up volume on my external FW drive without starting my MBP from a DVD?
In other words, is there a way to either:
a) create a disk image from the Install DVD on my external FW drive and then designate that disk image as my start-up drive?
OR
b) create a disk image on my MBP's internal drive that I can then use to run a System Install on my external drive?
(BTW, I know I can create disk images using Disk Utility, but it offers many options for type, compression, etc., that are beyond me. )
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

OS X Lion includes a new feature called Lion Recovery that includes all of the tools you need to reinstall Lion, repair your disk, and even restore from a Time Machine backup without the need for optical discs.
Restart your Mac holding down the Command-R to enter the Recovery HD.
From there you can use Disk Utilty.

New Computer Windows 8 without CD Rom Drive, CS5 Extended Student and Teacher Download and Install

I have a new laptop with Windows 8, and like most new computers it does not have a CD Rom drive. I have deactivated CS5 Extended Student and Teacher Edition from my old computer (since I am only allowed one computer at a time) and would like to install and activate on my new machine. I am in possession of the original cd, product key and serial number, however the email that I originally used to get the serial number no longer exists. I have created a new Adobe ID with my new email address.
I read a forum that suggested that I download a trial, and then activate that trial with my serial number. I followed those steps with the closest version I could find, which was CS5, and though my computer said the files downloaded, nothing was installed... and I cant figure out how to install... and I am concerned that I dont have the same version in the trial as the CD that I own. Any advice would be greatly appreciated- most of the reason I wanted a faster computer was so I could run my photoshop on there!!!!
