X120e Trackpoint problem

The trackpoint on my x120e just stopped working, along with the accompanying buttons just below the keyboard.  However, the touchpad and its two buttons still work.  (This happened while I was using the computer -- no apparent change to system files prompted it.)
I tried Fn+F8 to turn the trackpoint back on -- I can select the option but it doesn't take effect.  In advanced options, the option to turn the trackpoint on is grayed out.
I downloaded and installed the latest UltraNav driver; no improvement.  I also looked in BIOS options and didn't see anything related to enabling the trackpoint.
Has anyone else had an issue with this, or is it likely an old-fashioned hardware problem?
Thanks for your help.

hey kdl79,
try uninstall the ultranav driver and software as well as the current mouse drivers that is installed. let windows install its generic drivers.
test your trackpoint and mouse and see if it works, then visit our support page and reinstall the drivers+software

  • X120e TrackPoint Right button issue

Hi, my x120e's right TrackPoint button seems to be not working right, as I have to depress very hard in a certain way in order to do any right-clicking. I'm wondering if this is a hardware problem or maybe the little rubbery nib underneath the button itself?

  • T530 Trackpointer problem ...

I have a T530 (purchased in Aug 2012) and have had a problem with the Trackpointer (and it's associated buttons) ever since day one.
Many people dislike the Trackpointer (red thing between "G" and "H" keys), however, I have been using Thinkpads for many years and got quite used to it.
The problem is an involuntary activation of the left button (same as left mouse button) as soon as the trackpointer has been released.
Here is a description of what happens (in order) ....
1> Move cursor to a location on the screen.
2> Click left button to select an item or to start typing text.
    3> Remove finger from TrackPointer.
    4> Start typing text.
5> The typed text (or part of the it) appears at a different location, where the TrackPointer moved to after the last 'click' of the left button.
The problem appears after step 3 and before or after step 4 depending on how fast I started typing. So the result is
At first I thought that the left button was too sensitive and that the action of removing my finger from the button may sometimes cause it to activate a second time, however, the problem still existed after I replaced the keyboard.
So I now believe that this could be a software key-debouncing issue on the left button.
Any help with this problem would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Pat.

    Hello Patwassef!
Welcome to the support forums! There have been a couple of  Synaptics UltraNav driver updates since August. Check to make sure you have the most recent drivers. On the very bottom of the link there are instructions to help determine which version is installed. If you do not have the most recent, do the updates and see if that helps.
There is also a new BIOS update that was released a couple of weeks ago. If you have not updated you may want to consider updating your BIOS as well.  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS029249
Let me know if this helps!
Thank you for being a part of the Lenovo Family,

  • Touchpad and trackpoint problems, especially when resuming from sleep

I am having persistent problems with the touchpad and trackpoint on my L530.  I prefer to use the trackpoint usually, and found that the touchpad was super-sensitive and caused the cursor to jump around during normal (touch) typing so I disabled the touchpad.  Next time the thinkpad resumed from sleep mode, the mouse was frozen.  Nothing would reactivate it.  I had to switch user, which temporarily fixed it, and then reactivate the touchpad.
If I try and change trackpad settings at any time other than directly after a reboot, the settings are greyed-out and I can't touch them. Right now, both trackpad and trackpoint are completely dead again, but I've plugged in a USB mouse and that seems to be working, so I've given up fiddling with it.  This will be a pain when I'm moving around with the laptop though!
The OS is Windows 7.  Yesterday I went looking for the most recent driver, uninstalled the existing one (as per guidance) and installed the new driver.  No luck.
I've heard this is a common problem and apparently installing a generic driver works, but I'm not completely sure what to use.  Anyone know?
Oh, and I'm not sure if this is related, but quite often when I resume from sleep mode the keyboard is also dead.  However, if I switch user it comes back to life.  So annoying but not the end of the world.

Thanks for posting this information in this forum. You just saved me a couple thousand dollars!
Based on my experience if you want to get this problem fixed as soon as possible you need to do the following:
    1. www.apple.com/feedback
    2. Post a video of the problem on www.youtube.com
    3. Send www.apple.com/feedback a link to the video on youtube.
    4. Encourage others to visit your youtube video and to post their own.
    Good luck!

  • Trackpoint problem

First of all, sorry if this questions been asked and answered. I've been searching off an on for several weeks for any online help to a trackpoint annoyance I've been having with no luck.
I'm on a T61p running XP. (I upgraded the stock Vista, following an online guide). I have the Ultranav utility installed (I can see and change the options for the trackpoint/touchpad in the mouse control panel).
Both the trackpoint and touchpad work. However, every once in a while the trackpoint just becomes totally unresponsive and the mouse pointer refuses to respond or move. For like 3-4 seconds. What's odd is that when this happens, the touchpad still works. (I'm trying to move or scroll with the trackpoint / topmost scroll button+trackpoint with now response, but use other finger to test touchpad and that responds.)
It's really odd and really annoying. Has anyone had a similar problem? Any advice?
    Thanks!

I've had many issues with TrackPoint sensitivity in Windows 8 and 10 with both the T440s and the X1C3.  In Win 10 I attempted to improve the scroll speed by setting the mouse wheel to roll > than 1 line at a time (e.g. 10).  This worked well for a short while, but it seems that either Windows or the Synaptics driver constantly resets the value back to 1 for no apparent reason.   I don't know why the TrackPoint requires such a high degree of force to make it move, even when turned to the highest speed.  The driver on my T430s machine had a specific sensitivty command that functioned appropropriately.   One change I would recommend is trying the concave TrackPoint cap.  For some reason this helps the pointer move a bit easier without the need for such a high degree of force.

  • X120e Power problem

In the past couple of days my x120e has been experiencing problems charging. The battery is still good, but unless i get the ac adapter plugged in just so to the laptop it will not charge. Since this has started I've had the computer run off just battery, and just ac so I'm unsure what the exact nature of the problem is. I assume its the power plugin slot but I don't know

Hi quintin522 and welcome to the community,
I think you are on the right track in thinking that it might be a problem with the laptop power jack.  The good news is that the jack is not soldered on the board.  Here's a pic of it.
The bad news is that the laptop is going to require quite a bit of disassembly to get to it.
Edit:  Here's your Hardware Maintenance Manual .  Page 82 shows where it is located and what you have to take off to get to it.

  • X120e: Suspend problems after BIOS upgrade.

    I have a ThinkPad X120e (0596RZ6), which had BIOS version 1.08, that I have upgraded to 1.16 (8FET32WW).
I used a CD-ROM to upgrade the BIOS (8fuj09uc.iso) and all went smoothly.
Now, whenever I try to suspend to RAM while running on battery, it visibly suspends, cannot resume, and drains the battery as quickly as it would while running normally.
It worked just fine with 1.08, and nothing has changed in the OS that could break it.

The problem persists after downleveling the BIOS to 1.11. Older versions do not seem to be available for download.
Please, for the love of God, if you release a BIOS upgrade without properly testing it, then state so clearly so that people do not waste their resources such on frustrating "upgrades."

  • Lenovo L430 trackpoint problems.

I've got a Lenovo L430-2465 with 64 bit Windows 7 Pro, an i5-3360M 2.8GHz CPU, 8 GB of RAM, and an Intel HD-4000 graphics card.
At seemingly random times, my trackpoint as well as the row of mouse buttons above the trackpad will stop working.  It only happens when I'm playing a game. So far, it has happened in Team Fortress 2, Garry's Mod, and Half Life 2. The game never lags before or after the trackpoint quits.  I can still navigate around using the trackpad.  I can put my computer to sleep and immediately log back in, and the trackpoint and buttons will work perfectly. I don't even have to close my game. I've checked the control panel, and when it stops working, the trackpoint is still enabled, so it isn't an issue there. I can't find any evidence of this happening to anyone else, but any help you can give me will be very welcome.

  • Replace W540 Keyboard with W541 Trackpoint Buttons

Could someone from Lenovo let the forum know if it will be possible to replace the W540 Trackpad / Bezel / Keyboard assembly with the new one from the W541 which has integrated physical Trackpoint buttons.  This would make a very big difference to me and I suspect a lot of other W540 owners who use the Trackpoint. I am the current owner of 5 Thinkpads and have been a loyal customer since the 600 series. The increased pressure necessary to generate a less reliable click on the Trackpad has greatly exacerbated a problem with the top joint of my right thumb - I have had to retrain myself to use my left thumb to do all clcking.  The problem was nowhere near as bad on the old Trackpoint buttons - where I could use them with my right thumb for several hours with no symptoms, I can now manage only minutes.

i too am EXTREMELY frustrated with the trackpoint.  I also agree as to WHY the USB 2.0 instead of four (4) USB 3.0s. I have been a trackpoint fan since the late 80s which triggered my purchase of an IBM T21 still working having a Windows 98se operatring system.  My next was a T42p having a Windows XP Pro ServPk 3.  My third is a W500 for which I purchased a Microsoft Windows 7 Pro Operating System.  My fourth is an x220 having a 500 GB solid state Hard Drive (upgrade from the 160 GB SSD as supplied).  The fifth is the W540.  It has high end upgrades of all components including a 1 Terabyte SSD I purchased and installed myself.  I installed the 500 GB it came with in my W500. I read about the trackpoint problems with the W540 before purchasing but had no idea how SERIOUS the problem is until I purchased one!  This Lenovo forum is LOADED with complaints and appropriate requests by dedicated Lenovo users to replace the Keyboard with a USABLE trackpoint.  I am not surprised!  I am a Professional Engineer having had my own consulting business for 15 years.  I took a course in customer service during which I was informed of the results of NOT FIXING A PROBLEM FOR A CUSTOMER.  It has a probable devastatilng affect on future sales, etc. Personnally I have always found your customer service acceptable...better with some techs than others probably depending on experience.  It is extremely important you fix the problem with the trrackpoint ASAP AT NO COST TO YOUR CUSTOMERS.  I haven't had the W540 very long but it's only fair to be upfront that it will be my last if IBM-Lenovo fails to fulfill a MAJOR NEED of it's otherwise dedicated customers.  All else failing issue a recall and credit the owner toward a properly engineered replacement.  My big questions for IBM-LENOVO are WHAT WERE YOU THINKING and WHAT WAS THE MOTIVE?  Lastly I also concur with the USB Port error (WHY USB 2.0 since 3.0 ports are backward compatible).  A minor problem for me personnaly is the inclusion of the number pad.  It throws the trackpoint and the keyboard as typed on off center.  However both of those are minor in comparison the nearly 'useless' trackipoint.

When I navigate web with Firefox my Thinkpad trackpoint center button is not working. With other web browsers it works well. Where is the problem in firefox, how to enable TrackPoint center button?

I have exactly the same settings in Options (in both computers)
for history, these 2 add-ons and all other stuff in Options. The only difference is that on 1 pc sessions can be saved and closed tabs can be reopened, on other main pc they stopped to work. + no any other add-on that does similar things works on this pc.
It is also interesting that I can reopen closed visited sites from History Panel, but not by pressing the Button. For now I only manually bookmark links to a temporary folder.
Recently (some 2 month ago) I pressed x and Firefox closed all tabs without saving them without displaying save & quit pop up.
    so I changed 4 settings in about.config
    browser.tabs.warn on close true
    browser.warn on quit true
    browser.warn on restart true
    browser.show.quit warning true
but the problem with sessions appeared only 1 week ago.
So I guess the problem is not with the History settings or other settings. Seems that something responsible for button or for storing info about tabs/sessions got corrupted. :(

    Hi guys,
I switched to arch a few weeks ago and I love it... but one of the problems I'm having is with my xorg.conf.
I have a thinkpad t61 and I love using the trackpoint and center touch pad click to scroll up and down on webpages (much like center mouse click and scroll on a normal mouse) but I can't get it to work. I also had the tap to click running and when I upgraded synaptic it broke. Any ideas? Thanks

  • Trackpoint scrolling problem

I have a T61 that is having a problem with the trackpoint scrolling feature occasionally.  What happens is when I push the middle button, and try to scroll, the window scrolls like its supposed to, but the pointer also moves.  Then when the pointer reaches the edge of the area I'm scrolling, the scrolling stops, and I have to move the pointer back in before I can scroll again.  I have the scrollign settings configured for standard (ie, not smooth or auto-detect).  I have also set the touchpad to be for scrolling and tap zones only (I don't know whether this has anything to do with the problem).  The latest driver (7.5.17.27) is installed.  Any ideas about what else I can try?
    Thanks,
    Justin

I remember seeing this option in the mouse settings, advanced, where it had check box to use one or the other or both in re to touchpad or the red tip mouse.. I had no issue with it, I tried to recreate your issue but am not willing to screw this one up, sorry. Try that area and also see if the mouse driver is selecting the correct one, and if there is a post bios setting for the mouse functions. Now days with usb mouse, PS2, trackpoint, touchpad, infrared, wireless, we need things simple like a carnival ring toss on to coke bottles.
