X131e/Win8.1 - Brightness slider no longer working

Any idea why neither the display brigtness slider nor the F8/F8 brighness function keys cause any change to the display brightness? It used to work but for the past few weeks it's not. I thought that slider was able to override any preset power settings.

Problem solved :-)
I had previously updated the Intel Graphics 4000 driver to the most recent version (v10.18.10.3496). After downgading it back to the version posted on the Lenovo driver page for this model (v9.17.10.3190) the brightness slider works again as it should.

10.8.4 Screen Brightness Keys No Longer Work

I ran updates this morning and I assume it updated to 10.8.4 from the app store updates tab.
After this update and booting back up the screen brightness keys no longer work. F1 and F2 keys do nothing and they worked fine before the update.
Anyone else experiencing this? If so know a way to fix it?

I have been having the same issue and even with updates have continued to have the problem. I was able to find a chck box under the keyboard settings that I never noticed before. When checked it only allows you to use the function keys on the top of the keyboard when pressing the fn (function) key. Simply unchecking this (not sure how it got checked in the first place) solved the issue immediately.

Brightness slider does not work

about 2 days ago the brightness slider of my iPod touch 5g stopped working. (newest iOS version)
it's at the brightest level and if i turn it all the way down it hardly changes at all. (maybe it turns about 5-10% darker but it has almost no effect)
I reset it and restored it but it still doesn't work. is there anything else i can try?

If you successfully restored (went through all steps without error) to factory settings/new iPod via iTunes (Not via Settings>General>Reset>Erase all Content and Setting) and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

Brightness control no longer working

On some unremarkable occasion several weeks ago, I was suddenly unable to control my display brightness. When I press the keys, I see the overlay, but it will not adjust. Here's where it gets really strange... If I open the display settings and try to drag the slider myself, it glides right back to its original position, which happens to be uncomfortably bright. Enabling auto brightness does nothing except make it "jump" back to its position instead of slide. I made a short video to give you a better idea.
I figured it was probably something I messed up in the system files. Rebooting, resetting SMC did nothing. I even bit the bullet and did a complete factory reset last night, which I really expected to work. Clean install and it's still happening. I'd understand if the keys just stopped working, or if the bars moved and the display didn't change. I just don't understand how its registering the keypress, showing the brightness overlay, but won't move the bar or change the brightness. I've done a lot of searching and haven't found anyone else with the exact same problem. Any ideas?

The function keys started working again a couple of days later. I know I've restarted the iPad a couple of times to see if the keys would start working again and that didn't work so I have no clue what happened.

Brightness buttons no longer work on Apple Wireless Keyboard after Lion

They work fine on my MacBook Pro's keyboard, but the Apple Wireless Keyboard's keys were acting wonky yesterday. Today the brightness keys do not function at all.
Tried rebooting. Restarting/switching batteries in keyboard. I sent a bug report to Apple.
And worse of all, the redesign of these forums make it almost impossible to find anything now. Social and 'attractive' does not automatically make a UI usable.
Anyway... Anyone else having this brightness key issue?

Yes, the "no response to problem reports" does give the not-so-warm feeling of shoving something into a black hole. Occasionally, Apple will contact a problem reporter if they need more technical detail.
I did see a comment from someone once where they reported that someone at Apple told them that Apple was looking at a way for users to request updates/corrections to the database. Lots of "someones" in there so take that for what it's worth.
An automatic update mechanism isn't so easy since it could be maliciously abused. The Skyhook update mechanism was quite slow to take effect perhaps for this reason.

Flashcards for screen brightness no longer work after BIOS upgrade

I have a Toshiba Satellite T135D/1320S laptop, and last night I upgraded the BIOS to v1.90 under the recently released recall notice. AFter installing the BIOS, however, the Flashcard brightness controls no longer work. Whenever I press FN-6 or FN-7, the screen brightness Flashcard pops up and the toggle on the slider bar moves back and forth, but the brightness of the screen does not change.
I have disabled and re-enabled the Flashcards as suggested in a separate forum, and I've also downloaded the most recent display driver (AMD display driver v8.615). Neither effort corrected the problem.
Anyone have any other suggestions?

Sometimes it helps to reset the machine. With the battery and AC adapter removed, close the Power switch for half-a-minute. Re-attach those, press the Power button to turn the computer on, and then immediately press the F2 key while the Toshiba logo is displayed. Press F9 to restore the BIOS default settings, press F10, and then select Yes (Exit Saving Changes). The computer will restart.
Another things to try is reinstalling the TVAP.

S230U Twist - Camera no longer works after Win 8.1

Hello all!
I've scoured the forums and tried EVERYTHING but I still cannot find a solution to my problem:
After I upgrade from Win 8 to Win8.1, my camera no longer works. It shows a gray screen with a camera and a diagonal line across it but the green camera light shows up; I also get a shutter sound when take a picture but the image is only of the aforementioned gray camera screen. I can't use the camera for video in skype or any other video chat function.
My Integrated Camera driver version is 3.4.7.26 (SunplusIT) dated 3/15/2013. I tried to upgrade but it seems to be the latest one.
I've also checked that the Lock Screen setting is set to ON for "Swipe down on lock screen to use camera".
SOMEONE, please HELP!

I'm really sorry to hear that when you try to use webcam in your Lenovo S230U Twist, you are getting a crossed camera image.
Check if your camera is in normal or private mode. This could be happening because you might have set your camera in private mode.
Go into Lenovo Settings App and select camera.
There will be the options of Private and Normal.
Select Normal.
Also, in Settings > Permissions, make sure that Skype and other similar apps have permission to access the Webcam or Microphone.

Automatic brightness no longer works with mountain lion

I have a mid-2010 13" MBP that I upgraded to Mountain Lion via a clean install. Since the upgrade, the automatic brightness feature has stopped working and the laptop's screen brightness no longer responds to changes in ambient light level.
I've also noticed that I cannot deselect "automatically adjust brightness" in System Preferences – although I can clear the checkbox, as soon as I leave Display Preferences and go back, the box is rechecked. Adjusting the brightness using the slider or F1/F2 works as expected.
So far, I've tried resetting the SMC and PRAM, and using several combinations of energy and display settings, but no luck.
Is anyone else having this issue? Any ideas how I might solve it? Thanks.

Apparently I have the same issue! Also I am unable to change the brightness settings for the keyboard backlight. (see my post about that here) Unfortunately I have yet to find a solution to the problem. I'm currently re-downloading the Mountain Lion install, hopefully a re-install will correct the issue. I'll let you know if I find anything.

Did you consider using one of the "workarounds" below to run an existing version of the AD Module for PowerShell under a specific PowerShell version:
a. #require -version 3.0 (in ps1 script)
b. powershell -version 3.0

ITunes classic visualizer no longer works in slide-show mode?

I am using iTunes 8.1 (50) and have just noticed that the iTunes classic visualizer no longer works in slide show mode, which means that it just keeps the same colors and patterns without changing automatically, like it used to do. I can press "R" on the keyboard, which loads a new random collection of settings but again it just keeps them without changing. I tried also pressing "D" to go to default settings, but it did not help. Anybody else having this problem? Any ideas for a fix?

Good to know it's not just me. Sure, the old visualizer is anything but a vital feature, but still it's cool to get some variety sometimes so I hope there comes a fix for it.

No Brightness Adjustment, F1 & F2 No Longer Work

I'm puzzled because my PB 17" 1.67ghz display preference pane and F1 and F2 keys will no longer work to adjust the LCD screen brightness. When I purchased the laptop used, Leopard was installed and the brightness adjustment worked. To save hard disk space and run classic, I wiped the hard drive and installed Tiger (10.4) and then ran updates (10.4.11). When I boot in Leopard, the keys work, in Tiger they don't. I don't have the original restore CDs. Is there any thing that I can do to get the pb to recognize the LCD and offer brightness adjustment? Thanks.

I have a dual-boot black MacBook where F1-F2 adjusts brightness just fine in 10.5, but if I boot 10.4 pressing F1 or F2 (or fn-F1 or fn-F2) all do absolutely nothing.
Details below. I did the keyboard-firmware update in 10.5 by the way. Details below.
Does anyone have a work-around for adjusting screen brightness, even a commad-line method?
Details and steps taken: newly-arrived black macbook April 2008 with 10.5 factory installed.
1. Booted 10.5, ran all updates, including the keyboard-firmware update, fixed perms, and verified boot disk.
2. Using 10.5 disk-util, did non-destructive resize of 10.5 partition from entire drive (120gig) down to 76gig. Created 2 new partitions: tiger (50gig), and TimeMach (22gig). After reboot leopard is running find from resized partition, and I zeroed-out the other (Erase, writing zeroes in 10.5-disk-util).
3. Booted new macbook in target mode. From another black mac-book running 10.4.11 with ALL updates, ran CCC-3.1 to copy tiger to empty tiger partition on new mb.
4. Booted new mb, holding down option, and selected tiger partition. Everything works in Tiger as far as I can tell except I can't adjust brightness.)
Go figure.

Contact Rhapsody to see if they have or plan to release an update for the app. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears?

The "slide to unlock" on my elderly touch ipod no longer works.

The "slide to unlock" touch slider on my elderly touch ipod no longer works. My finger can move it three-quarters of the way then it pops back to the left. With struggle, I can sometimes combine the on screen slider moved as far to the right as I can get it then tap the hardware button on the bottom. I just have to keep trying over and over. An arrow appears at the top of the ipod that, when tapped, leads into the most recent song I was listening to before I turned it off. Just removing the earphones turns it off. Otherwise, I would just leave it on. The ipod works just fine once I get past that slider bar at the start. Help!

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Adobe master slides and slide labels no longer working

Hi. I am creating a file and noticed that the slide labels are no longer working. The label box under the proprties panel is blank and most slides are numbered. Some slides are still named (because it was working previously) but when I select a slide, the label stays blank and I am not able to change it. This occurs when I open up older versions of the file that were saved when this was working. In addition, my master slides are not showing up in the drop down menu - only "dummy master slide is showing"
I tried to create a new project and copy and paste the slides in, but this also did not solve the problem. I did this for slides that were already named as well, but the label box is sitll blank. I also tried to create a new file (without copying and pasting material from the file) but I am unable to label slides even if I create a brand new project.
I also updated all the software.
Below is a screen shot. As you can see the slide that is selected is labeled in the filmstrip, but the label is not appearinig in the proprties window. I am now not sure what to try as I have tried everything else that was presented in previous discusssions. Can anybody provide me with some help?

Just so you know what I did:
I closed captivate, went to my prefernes folder in users/username/library/preferenes/adobe captivate 5.5 and I deleted that file.

I have tried resetting it, ive restarted my browser etc. I tried to erase all data from my Ipad but I can't do that because it needs to sign into my Apple ID and use the Internet!

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.
