X1900 G5 Edition lock-ups

FYI.
Just had the second lock-up in just under 2 weeks of the Quad coming out of Sleep mode.
Only recourse is power off as the graphics driver corrupts the whole machine. Ugh.
I've reported it to ATI, but who knows when we'll get a fix. Bottom line, save any work (Aperture isn't an issue but CS2, FCP etc. are).
If any others have a similar effect, please provide feedback to ATI (not that the card was on their feedback list a few days ago, so I put it in the comments area and selected "Radeon")
When system comes out of sleep mode, the screen is somewhat dithered and diagonal arrays of 1/8" blocks (around 1/4" apart) flash intermittently. Cursor is a translucent rectangle around 1/2" x 3/4" with the mouse pointer barely visible at top left. Although the mouse can be moved, nothing appears selectable. Option-Apple-Esc does not appear to bring up the force quit dialog (there again, nothing is very readable).

Hi,
I have X1900 G5 from one month. I am satisfied although I had some problems during instalation.
But what did you expect? In fact this card isn't faster then NVIDIA 7800 GT.
Look here:
http://barefeats.com/quad15.html
I knew about it before I bought it.
But, first of all, it is very difficult to find and buy an 7800 GT card, and secondly, the ATI card costs 349 USD and NVIDIA about 780 USD (at: http://www.welovemacs.com/6613835.html )
So, which card is better?
Thats my thoughts.
Marek.

Before installing the Radeon x900xtx I did a format of the dri've and a clean install of windows xp with SP2. I have tried catalyst 6.4 and the lock ups were very frequent in catalyst 6.3 they are less frequent and more random. I have upgraded to the latest drivers for every other component on my pc. I posted this here and also I have sent in a ticket to ATI because if I remove the XF-I and go with the real tek 8 channel onboard sound all of the lock ups disapear. When the XF-I is in the pc and it locks up it goes into a sound stutter at random times in any D3D or OpenGL game

I don't think so, Lion with the latest updates is running fine for most of us.
Post the log for your next lockup or the previous one if you can isolate the timeframe.

  • System lock ups

lately i've been having a lot of system lockup problms.. you know the ones where that spinning rainbow balls shows up on the screen. you know i never had a problm running adiumx firefox and itunes at the same time, but lately i don't know if its the updates or what, but i'm getting a lot of lock ups, to the point where i can't play videos on itunes, or quicktime without it freaking out and freezing every couple seconds, or when trying to load firefox it take 10 15 secs, and then forever to actually get to a webpage, i do notice when i turn of growl i don't have as many problms, any suggestions.

    teckie:
RAM can very likely be a part of your issue. If your 12" PB is one of the last 3 models it came with 256 MB of RAM. Considering the issues you are having you should consider maxxing it out to 1.25 GB.
ali b. mentioned your HDD. If your HDD has less than 10-20% free space it can contribute to the issue you are experiencing. It also increases the risk of directory issues, consequent data loss and even a crashing HDD.
Thirdly, I am not sure what maintenance procedures you use. But you should consider at least running Unix Maintenance scripts using a utility like MacJanitor, and doing Directory repairs and replacement with a utility like Disk Warrior. In addition, if you have not booted from your install disk and run Repair Disk recently, I suggest you do so.
Take a look at Gulliver's article on Mac OS X Maintenance for some very helpful tips and resources: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607640&#607640

  • System Lock-ups. What can be wrong?

On to more serious issues.. .
I am experiencing system lock-ups on the brand spanking new computer I just buildt.(Yeah, yeah.. . Anti-static and all other thinkable precautions were taken.. .)
Needless to say it's annoying the hell out of me. I can't work and I can't play with a situation like this.. .
The system just hangs and the only solution is to press the reset button.
This usually happens in games or when scrolling a window. Less frequently it also happens when doing nothing. It only seems like it's getting worse - more frequent that is.
Are there any known issues with TwinMos RAM and nForce2?
The RAM and CPU are running on the same clock. The error persists when running the RAM at it's native clock too.
I'm running Catalyst 4.11 and Bios Information says 113-95702-100.
The BIOS of the MB has not been flashed by me - as out-of-the-box.
    Nvidia drivers version 5.10.
No overclocking of any sort of any device.
I will be running the full monty in Memtest x86 over night, but the RAM DIMM is spanking new and has been handeled with the utmost caution. The first five tests returned nothing wrong.
Another peculiar hick-up is that sometimes after the lock-up and after I've pressed the reset button the BIOS seems to take forever to detect the IDE devices. If I power off and on again, the IDE detection happens in a snap. Very, very strange.. .
Edit: I have a sneaking suspicion that it gets worse until I power off/on - after that it will take a longer time for the error to return. I haven't verified this empirically, but I have a hunch.. .
I really hope there's someone with helpful insight to this problem out there!
    Thank you for your time.

Woops. Seems like I don't have access rights to the last link.
It seems like downflashing to B30 is the only way to go for me as I'm having *major* stability issues, even with no overclocking.
Heck - I even had to reset and reboot the machine when trying to write this post just now!
I must say I've never experienced such outrageous instability with any of my other MSI MBs before.. . Not from any other make for that matter. This is just incredible.
I'll flash it tomorrow (if I can find a damned floppy somewhere). For now I really have to work.
    Fingers crossed!
    Thanks again for great input!

  • Please help! Major problems (performance and lock-ups) with brand new W520 with Intel 520 SSD

My company primarily uses HP machines but I've been a long time IBM (now Lenovo) fan so I recently had IT purchase me a new Lenovo W520 (product ID 42763LU).
Once the machine arrived I had them do the following:
Remove the 500GB HDD and replace it with an Intel 520 series 240GB SSD
Remove the optical drive and install the 500GB hard drive that came with the machine in the optical bay (with the bay adapter of course)
Format both drives and put a preconfigured windows 7 64-bit image on the SSD
A general summary of the system is the following:
    Intel i7-2860QM CPU
    8GB RAM
    NVIDIA Quadro 1000M
    Intel 520 240GB SSD (primary HDD) [SSDSC2CW240A3]
Hitachi 500GB HDD (optical bay) [HTS727550A9E365]
    Intel Advanced-N 6205 network adapter
    TouchChip Fingerprint Scanner
The machine was a few days delayed getting to me due to "hard drive driver issues" (that's what I was told). When I received the machine I immediately noticed that it was much slower than I expected (I have a custom built i5 HTPC at home running windows 7 on a Crucial SATA III SSD that I was comparing it to) and I was experiencing frequent hangs (ranging from 30 seconds to multiple minutes), super long boot times, general “slowness” at times, and occasional lock-ups. Since our "baseline" laptop here at work is the "equivalent" HP workstation my IT guys have been less than helpful in helping me to solve this issue. Being reasonably computer savvy I decided to try to try to fix the issue myself. I performed the following “troubleshooting” steps:
    1. One of the first issues (errors) I noticed in the event viewer was errors related to the optical drive. Clearly the image they installed on the machine was not from a machine with the same hardware configuration. So, I decided to just wipe the machine and perform a fresh install of windows 7 from the disks (well, USB). After spending multiple days installing windows, performing updates, making sure all the drivers were current, and installing only the critical software I need, I was disappointed to realize that although I fixed the optical drive errors the machine was still slow, was hanging, and locking up regularly.
    2. Removed the cover on the machine and removed/reinstalled the drive to verify it was secure.Everything looked good.
    3. Verified the latest firmware is installed on all my Intel hardware. Everything seemed up to date.
    4. I performed a number of troubleshooting steps like booting the machine with/without the battery, with/without the HDD in the optical bay, installed/removed from the docking station, etc. and none of these things helped (also a note – occasionally when running on the battery I was hearing a strange “buzz” or “static” sound coming from the area around the SSD).
    5. Next I did some internet research and learned quite a few things. First, it sounds like others have had similar problems with this machine and/or SSD combo and there were quite a few options suggested to “fix” these issues. The general consensus for troubleshooting steps were:
5.1. Download and install the latest Intel chipset drivers and AHCI controller drivers (overwriting whatever windows installs during updates). This didn’t fix anything.
5.2. Turn off PCI express link state power management in the power manager. This didn’t fix anything.
5.3. Disable superfetch, prefetch, indexing, defragmentation, page file, system restore, and hibernate. A few of these were already disabled by windows so in those cases I just verified they were disabled in the services and application editor. These things may have slightly increased performance but did not fix the major hang/lockup issues I was having.
5.4. I followed online steps to edit the registry to disable the PCI link power management by adding ports, adding the required variables, and setting them all to 0. This did seem to have fixed the hangs and/or lock-ups but the machine is still much slower than I would expect (boot times are still pretty slow and it does “stutter” when I’m doing more than one thing at a time. Also a note here – I have the Intel SSD toolbox installed and I noticed that it was giving me a warning for DIPM not being optimized. I made the mistake of clicking “Tune!” and then started having the hang/lock-up issues again. I went back into the registry and sure enough the PCI link power management variables for ports 0 and 1 were set back to 1. I set them back to 0 and the hangs have gone away. I will not be “tuning” the DIPM through the Intel SSD toolbox again…
    6. I also fixed a couple of other minor errors I was seeing in the event viewer by disabling benign services and/or making slight timeout modifications (I researched each issue on the internet to verify they were benign before I implemented any changes). These fixes didn't seem to do anything other than make some of the errors/warnings go away. So, the list of errors/warnings has become much smaller but I’m still getting the following (maybe an issue, maybe not?):
Event ID 37 for every processor saying that they are in a reduced performance state for xx seconds since the last report
Event ID 10002 - WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped
Event ID 4001 - WLAN AutoConfig service has successfully stopped
Event ID 27 – Intel® 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection link is disconnected
I suspect the WLAN errors have something to do with windows fighting with the Lenovo access connection tools?
    7. Since the machine still seemed slow I downloaded the program AS SSD and checked the performance of the SSD. When I compared my performance numbers to the benchmark numbers I found onlineI was very surprised to discover that I’m getting about 50% of the performance that I should (values below are read/write).
    Seq: 262.11 / 188.32 (s/b 504.58 / 298.28) [MB/s]
    4K: 15.83 / 44.92 (s/b 21.70 / 62.60) [MB/s]
    4K-64Thrd: 165.23 / 154.46 (s/b 241.38 / 234.08) [MB/s]
    Acc.time: 0.218 / 0.294 (s/b .0186 / 0.208) [ms]
    Score: 207 / 208 (s/b 314 / 327)
    Overall Score: 533 (s/b 797)
One more note - it seems like my cooling fan is running at a high speed almost all of the time. This is probably one of my power settings (I think I have it set for max performance) but it's even doing this when there is no load (i.e. I'm using IE and just vieweing webpages - like right now).
So, I apologize for such a long post but I’ve spent countless hours researching and troubleshooting this problem and haven’t been able to figure out what the heck is wrong here. Am I missing something simple or do you guys think I have a SSD and/or problem with the machine itself? To say that any and all help would be greatly appreciated would be a massive understatement – I’m on the verge of pulling my hair out and I really need this machine working as quickly as possible!
Please let me know if you have any suggestions and/or need additional information. Thanks in advance for your help!
    -Erik

Lol gotcha about the drive as an option. I didn't go SSD with mine. Do you have the latest firmware on your drive? It is supposed to be v1.97. Just checking (ah and I see item 3 so guess so). Do you have the SSD drive toolbox software installed?
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Solid+State+Drives+and+Cach...)
Seems some useful tools are in there. I can't say much beyond that with the drive. Oh. Why does your fan always run at high speed? Can you describe that?  I mean, are we troubleshooting the right kind of issue? Is there anything else going on with your system? I saw about the reduced core speeds message. what are your system loads like? Anything causing high cpu utilization? Could be something other than the drive causing your low numbers and lockups.

  • P7n Dimaond Vista 64 bit lock-ups

Hi, I'm experiencing random hard lock ups of my newly built Vista 64bit PC
I've reinstalled the OS 3 times, i have all the latest drivers.
I've ran memtest several times and the vista memory diag tool with no errors, and on individual sticks. i have stress tested my CPU and GPU with no errors many times.
it sometimes freezes 5 mins after booting up, when surfing the web, when on screen-save,r when typing in word and when playing games, sometimes it will be fine for hours then suddenly just freeze up.
I see nothing in the Event Viewer.
    My setup:
MSI p7n Diamond with latest official BIOS version fomr the MSI site.
    Intel e8400 @ 3.00GHz (stock)
    XFX 9800 GTX Black Edition
    4x1GB Corsair DDR2 XMS2 Ram
    Antec Quattro 1000W SLI PSU
    Trust 5.1 Sound Card.
    Hitatchi SATA HDD
    Pioneer SATA DVD/RW
    Zalman 9700NT CPU cooler.
I updated the BIOS using MSI live update, but it was freezing before the update aswell.
I cant find any pattern to the freez-ups it seems entirely random.
I have manually changed the ram voltage in BIOS to 2.1V (manufacturers reccomendation) and changed timings.
However even at stock values it still freezes
    Thanks for reading

    YIKES
Whatever you do, never attempt to update the BIOS of a system that is freezing randomly, especially via MSI Live Update.  In fact, you'd be well advised to avoid MSI Live Update entirely.
The most commonly suggested method for flashing BIOS is via USB disk method and only after booting to DOS, not Windows.  Even in these conditions, if there are hardware issues that are still preventing the system from running stable (e.g. failing PSU, excessive heat, etc.), you should not attempt to flash the BIOS.
Attempting a BIOS flash under any of these conditions is risking permanent and irreparable damage to your motherboard.
As for your Vista 64 lockups, I personally am not convinced that Vista drivers are completely reliable yet, much less Vista 64.  Another possibility is that your PSU is failing.

  • Finding the cause of total hardware lock-ups

The new build has been running reasonably well, and I've done no major optimizing so far, and no overclocking (yet). However, I've been having infrequent and seemingly random system lock-ups that would appear to be hardware related.
Last night was about the fourth or fifth of these. I had been working on and off throughout the day on a 4-camera multicamera project, and having no issues at all. This was a TOTALLY different multicam experience than I've had with CS4, where MC was hardly usable. Anyway, I was going to make my last few edits of the night when the system locked up--I had just started playing back a sequence when it happened. No hard drive activity, no keyboard/mouse interaction, no bluescreen--the audio that had started playback, however, got caught in a short loop and made an annoying racket. The only way to return to normal was to hard reboot with the power button depressed. No error or fault is logged in the Windows event logs, beyond the reboot which is recorded as something like, "Your system restarted, probably due to you turning it off... don't do that." The actually fault that perpetuates such a drastic action is not recorded. My initial thoughts were that the RAM has a bad chip somewhere, so I've run a memory test for over 8 hours now, and had 0 errors reported. There were no lock-ups, either--the system has been just humming along that whole time. This obviously does not rule out the RAM, but doesn't make it easy to say it's the problem, either. The only "tweak" I've made to the system is the RAM, and that's by setting the DRAM frequency to 1600MHz; nothing else has been altered in the BIOS.
The last two lock-ups occured in one day, when I was attempting to export to an H.264 file, through the AME queue, with hardware MPE enabled. At different points in the export, the system locked, with similar results as above. After the second lock-up, I disabled GPU acceleration in PPro, and the export completed just fine. Interesting, I thought. However, I'd done other hardware MPE-assisted exports earlier that day and in previous days, with no lock-ups.
As mentioned, I'd encountered at least one other hard freeze, and if I remember correctly, I was in Premiere but not doing anything. I'd walked away from the system for a little while, came back, and it was Living Dead on my return. I hadn't been rendering, importing, playing back, or anything else.
I've been checking my temps with HWmonitor, and there isn't anything out of the ordinary as far as I'm aware. I'm really not stressing the system much, pretty basic and rudimentary edits. The memory test has now done about 600% coverage, and no errors. The bizarre coincidence is that these lock-ups occur when I'm in one of the Adobe programs--but I've never seen software cause a lock-up such as this before.
So... where do I go from here? The lock-ups seem to completely happen at random, with no particular instigation. Is there some sort of other monitor software I can run in the background that might indicate hardware failures that Windows is not able to catch?
I'm hoping you hardware gurus can shed some light on this bizarre predicament... thanks in advance for your insight.
    ADDENDUM:
It would seem to make sense to post my hardware... duh:
    ASUS P6X58D
    i7-930
    OCZ  Gold 12GB (6 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
    GIGABYTE GeForce GTX  480
    COOLER MASTER HAF 932
    COOLER MASTER Silent Pro 1000W
Western  Digital VelociRaptor 150GB (system drive)
    HITACHI 500GB 7200  RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s
4x SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB  7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s (running RAID 5 with onboard controller)
    Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler

Well, I really wanted Jeff's suggestion to be the solution, but alas, troubles remain. And it would appear that something far more sinister is happening than flaky codecs or software.
The good news is that I can now reliably repeat the lock-up, each and every time. The bad news is that the lock-up occurs whenever I attempt an export. I'm trying to get a 75-minute multicamera edit onto a DVD, and the moment the actual encode begins, the system goes into a hard hang. I have a number of audio clips that are being used, and I see "Adobe Premiere Pro is preparing audio for export" or something like that, and then once the video processing begins, it's curtains.
At first, I thought it was something with the hardware MPE--I'm using a GTX 480 with the hack. Editing works well--remarkably well. Encoding is a different issue, altogether, and it doesnt' matter whether I start the export with the Queue button or the Export button. I tried disabling GPU acceleration, and at first, I thought I had solved the mystery--the encode actually began and progressed for about 30 seconds. However, inevitably it would seem, I got the same hard hang.
The first couple "hangs" were actually system restarts; the Windows desktop would disappear, and moments later, I was back at POST. I then disabled the "Automatically restart" option in Windows, and after doing that, I simply ended up with a frozen system and desktop. I'm not sure those are coincidental, actually; I'm going to test that again this morning to see if I get the restart or the hang.
I've been checking out my temperatures with HWMonitor, and as far as I can tell, I'm not going off the charts with temperatures. Temperatures do climb (I have HWMonitor as I start the encode) for both the CPU cores and GPU, but nothing drastic, and there is no way that it's getting too hot in the 5 seconds that the encode is running before the hang. What about the power supply? I can see wattages for the CPU fluctuating drastically as the encode tries to begin, which I would gather is SOP for the operation of a computer, but is it possible that I am getting too much/too little juice? I've got a 1000W Cooler Master PSU, the components you see listed above, and 6 hard drives--this would seem to be more than sufficient to me (for my current use), but undoubtedly, the system is pulling more watts as it starts to work harder. Unfortunately, there is nothing I can really disconnect to test this theory, since I need all of the components and hard drives connected to do anything.
I'm at a total loss, guys, and I'm more than a little frustrated because I've got a pretty expensive paperweight sitting in my office. Unfortunately, I live in a pretty rural area, so finding a trustworthy computer tech locally is a challenge, so I'm hoping that you tech-savvy folks can through out some places to look.
Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi... you're my only hope...
    Thanks, all...

  • Help with Video camera lock ups on K7N2 delta

    hi everyone,
finally got new computer working after formatting and reinstalling windows and the bare minimum of software.
but a small problem arose after drivers from supplied CD Rom installed my Sony DV camera locks up.
i haven't even installed any video editing software yet.
before installing drivers, when i double clicked the camera icon in my computer it gave me access to the camera i.e i could press play on the camera and view it on the computer.
now since the drivers have been installed the message that i get is 'please wait while device initializes'.
then  'program not responding' is displayed.
    my configuration is
    K7N2 delta
    AMD XP2000+
    crucial 512mb PC2700
    Radeon 9200
    belkin firewire card
    trust V92 modem
any help would be much appreciated as the new computer sole purpose is to video edit.
    cheers everyone

I have the same problem and have a very old MoBo 266Pro board, I have a different camera it's a Samsung dp-s103 or something like that, whenever I try to capture some movie the program lock ups and I have to =restart the PC.  I tried taking out the PCI cards and left only the firewire PCI card I was able to capture about 16 minutes of video, but it still locks up.  I will try the latency patch and a bios upgrade.  Will then see how everything turns up.  I've also tried this on an old computer with an Intel chipset, 733Mhz processor and it worked fine, so this must be either a chipset problem or MSI didn't manufacture these board well.
    Best regards
PS.  I think that my new system will be a pure intel one  :(

  • Pages '08 lock ups

A couple months ago, I started having issues with Pages '08. It would lock up while I was typing, or even something as simple as scrolling the page down. All I would get was the little rainbow wheel and a locked up document. At first I thought it was just the one file I was working on, but now it happens all the time. It locks up so bad sometimes that it forces a restart of the computer. No other programs are having this issue. Should i just reinstall Pages '08 from the disc or what. Cause this has made my main wordprocessing program completely useless. I'm on Mac OSX 10.5.8

    Update:
Well I think I got it figured out. For some reason, the spell checker was causing the problem. I've always had it set to "Check spelling as you type", but for some reason that is now causing Pages to lock up. So my work around is to simply turn off the "Check Spelling as you type" option, and now there are no more lock ups.

  • Terca 9100 lock ups

    Hi!
I recently got my hands on a second hand tecra 9100. I got it free since the previous owner complained about random lock ups or freezes. As i've testaed the laptop myself i experienced this aswell. It can freeze just about anytime but i've never had it running flawlessly for more than 20 minutes i recon. Sometimes it also refuses to start up. I do not know if this is a lock up in the initial startup sequence.
Anyway it will lock up even in bios and i have dissassembled it and put it back together, replaced the RTC battery (with a non rechargable) and removed any hardware not crucial for useage (i.e WiFi card, extra RAm modules, modem card).
I'm clueless, anyone got any idea of what to try next?
    Regards Simon

I think you cant fix it by yourself
In your case the ASP should check the notebook and if necessary replace the faulty part/device.

  • R835 P56X lock ups

From day 1 (purchased a month ago) I'm still having lock ups with this laptop!  After few hours of use the screen goes black (sometimes blue), if I try to revive it the fan kicks in at full speed sounding like a leaf blower!
I've reinstalled Win7 with the latest drivers, installed a new SSD instead of the HD and this problem keeps re-occuring randomly (daily)!
I certainly would appreciate any ideas!

I replaced my HDD with a OCZ Vertex 3 SSD for my R835-P56x.  It boot in seconds and runs nice and fast, but I get lock-ups and BSOD after several hours (as described above).  Not sure if it had the problem with the HDD, because I didnt use the PC very long before upgrading.  I am also running a 800MB Dataram RAM Disk (Version 3.5.130) for browser cache, which I suspect could be the culprit.   My bios is 3.90 (7/31/2012).
    Portege R835-P56x, i5 2410M, 16GB RAM, Vertex 3 SSD 240GB.

  • Crashes and Lock-ups

I have been experiencing crashes and lock-ups in Premiere CS4.
Last week I was running Encore to burn a DVD and when I noticed the processor was running flat out. I decided to run Core Temp to check the temperatures. At that point my encoding stopped and Encore locked up.
Now I usually have Core Temp start when I load Windows. I have now disabled it and when I ran Premiere last night guess what? No lock-ups. Now this is early days but I suspect Core Temp might be the problem. I hope so. I'll report back with my findings when I have had more time to experiment.
PS I'm running Windows XP SP3, Quad Core 6600 and 4Gb RAM
    Cheers,
    Tim

  • I am getting frequent lock-ups and blue screens during boot up. The lock ups occur during normal use and I cannot click anything or force quit. The cursor shows something is loading, but never stops. I have to use power button. Ideas?

I had the Mac Defender malware and I have used apple jack but still having issues.

  • Total lock-ups with fan running - translate system.log file please!?

Hi, all. My late 2005 2.3 gig dual G5 has been experiencing random lock ups for as long as I can remember. My system is up to date and I have tested each pair of the 5 gigs of ram that I have and the system freezes with each pair. It can happen at any time, when I am doing absolutely nothing, for example, overnight. I am at my wits end!
Here's the system log file for the latest freezes. Can anyone tell me what's going on here??? I really need to get to the root of this problem. Thanks so so much in advance.

    Hi-
The machine seems to be having trouble with loading certain drivers, but, as this isn't a crash log, and doesn't show the "hang-up" or freeze, it's hard to tell.
    Noted possibilities are:
-Microsoft keyboard (possible USB power problem)
-firmtek driver (from archive) questionable due to the "archive" annotation
-Wacom tablet driver, causing system problems
Running in Safe mode without freezes would help to determine if one of these drivers is the problem.
Other possibilities are outdated drivers, or simply a need to reinstall the OS.
If unnecessary, removing the driver(s) would be a good idea.
External USB and Firewire devices are all suspect, should all be disconnected, revert to Apple keyboard, and test system performance. Adding one device at a time, and testing each will be necessary to clear each device.
I have experienced system trouble when a Wacom tablet was not connected, but the driver was left installed.
Disabling the driver from Startup items may be necessary to test without the Wacom tablet connected.

  • Leopard lock ups.....

HI, I thought i might share this with you if you are having lock ups in leopard on a G5 with an ATI X800XT graphics card. I have a G5 2.7 with a fresh install of leopard and with the aforementioned card and was getting constant lock ups which resulted in me having to hard power down constantly. Also you could hear the cards fan revving quite a lot as well. If you go into system prefs and set colours to thousands in stead of millions then the constant locking up will stop. ATI and apple need to address this ASAP! But for now its a workaround. Hope this helps

I assume you tried all teh usual voodoo - reset NVRAM, performed AHT etc?
If you need a working system then I'd suggest you restore back to Tiger from your backups and then call Apple.
You could install a small Leopard test partition and have them walk you through troubleshooting steps.
It may be a Leopard driver issue or could be that your system has a real hardware problem.
    Good Luck.
