X1C / Windows 8 and USB 3.0 Dock (0A33970)

I just received my USB 3.0 dock for use with my X1C running Windows 8 x64.
The drivers that are supplied with the dock do not work properly with Windows 8.
DisplayLink has update drivers however that fix the problem and the dock works great
http://www.displaylink.com/support/downloads.php
I installed the drivers that came on the disk and then installed the drivers in the link above over top of them.
Hopefully this helps others who might be in the same boat
Josh

That's good to know.  Are you driving two external LCD panels with the dock?
If so, what make, model and native resolution do the panels have?

  • Helix and USB 3.0 Dock

    Hello,
I don't know were to post a suggestion so I thought I leave it here.
I do have a Helix and use the USB 3.0 dock 0A33970 in my office. For at home... I thought the 4X10A06077 would be nice: HDMI and hard wired network and some USB for entertainment. The online chat told me the dock is compatible with the Helix, which is actually wrong... The onelink connector doesn't fit.
It should't be too difficult to create an adapter to split the onelink connector in standard USB 3.0 and power to make it usable for the the Helix which would open a nice market for the dock. I was very surprised that it's not (yet) available.
    Best regards,

Do you have any issues using the dock after you put the helix to sleep? I am having a host of issues getting the Helix to see the dock after waking up.

  • T440s Windows 8.1 Pro and USB 3.0 dock not recognising DVI LCD panel

Perhaps somebody could help me here.
When I connect the USB 3.0 dock to my T440s, I then cannot get the second LCD monitor to be recognised by Windows via the USB3.0.
The monitor is not being recognised as it is is not seen as one of the optional displays in the 'Intel HD Graphics control panel' window.
The driver however for the second monitor is fully up to date and it works fine when I connect the LCD to the VGA port directly on my computer.  Also the second monitor is being recognised partly by the windows OS as it comes up as a second screen under the 'screen resolution' window.
My set up is shown below.  I am thinking that perhaps there is an issue with either the NVIDIA or Intel HD graphics chip. I read somewhere that windows uses one or the other depending on the load.  I am worried that there is some problem with that mechanism.
Can anyone help or give me some advice on this?  All driver are up to date.

  • Adobe AIR support for Windows RT and USB

We want to develop an cross platform application. We found that Adobe AIR supports cross platform development for Windows, iOS and Android.
    We wanted to know wheather
    1) reading and writing to USB port is possible with Adobe AIR?
    2) Adobe AIR has support for Windows RT development?
    Thanks in advance.

I wrote before about my concerns with Adobe AIR, but here is a short summary:
    - no road map and no clear plans for the platform,
    - support of new devices is often late, Intel chipsets are not supported on Android,
    - debugging on a device is a pain,
    - inadequate build times for iOS, app package is quite large,
    - list of mobile UI components is very limited and UI experience is far from native,
    - native extensions are a possibility but still far from perfect (imagine using three very different development platforms all in one app), no debugging,
    - performance is not good if you use a lot of Spark components in your app,
    - Flash Builder is pretty bad as the development environment,
    - ActionScript3 is a poor, outdated language that encourages bad coding practices.
I ruled out HTML5 frameworks for the same reason as you stated above. Last few months I've been working with Xamarin MonoTouch and I think it is perfect for my projects. 100% native UI experience, about 80% of the code is shared among the platforms, iOS, MacOSX, Android and Windows 8/RT are supported. Took me about 2 months to convert my 2Mb ActionScript Adobe AIR project to Xamarin MonoTouch (iOS). The entire process was fun and painless. Now thinking to port to MacOSX and Android. My iOS app is already at the App Store, no major complains so far.
On a down side, Xamarin is expensive for an indie developer with low revenues. You need to pay $300 per year per each platform (iOS, Android, Mac). Plus, you need to develop UI layer separately for each platform, so only part of the code is shared. But I decided it is a way to go for my projects and it's been a very positive experience so far.
As for my professional development, Xamarin offers quite a bit more as well. I get to work with C#, .NET, iOS SDK, Android SDK all in one platform. With Adobe tools you only get to know ActionScript and Flex/Spark framework. Very rarely I see that as a desired qualification. It is like a trap. Your boss tells you to develop a few projects with Adobe tools, it sucks you in for a few years and suddenly you realize that your market value declined dramatically and there is no easy way out of this mess.

  • ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock 0A33970 with 2560x1440 monitor

My 2560x1440 monitor works fine on a desktop PC.
This dock (really more like a USB 3.0 to dual DVI adapter) works fine with my 1920x1200 monitor.
But this dock won't recognize my 2560x1440 monitor/the 2560x1440 resolution doesn't get detected.  This problem happens with NVidia Optimus Mode and Discreet Video modes on my ThinkPad W520, and this happens with Windows 7 x64 SP1 or Windows 8 Release Preview.
Here's the USB 3.0 Dock listings:

and should be capable of driving up to 2560x1600 resolutions.
I'm using the latest (and only) driver from the CD that shipped with the unit June 2012, which matches the V10606 version available online here:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/guides-and-manuals/detail.page?DocID=UM014961
    Any ideas?

    Hey Jimbo!
At this point, it's looking likely that the dock's driver and/oor firmware isn't supporting 2560x1440, since using a DisplayPort (from W520 port) to DVI-D Accell adapter allows my to work fine with my video driver:
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS014142
    Here's the monitor:
    http://tinkertry.com/close-look-qnix-qx2700-led-2560x1440-27-inch-monitor
so still eager to see if the DL-3900 chipset's capabilities to drive 2560x1440 will be enabled at some point.
I realize I'm on the bleeding edge here, seen by doing the Google search you kindly suggested, just for fun:

  • Unknown device - ipod nano fine - problem with windows xp and usb root hub

Greetings all. I've seen this question come up over and over again and have been working on it following previous posts and posts on microsoft and hp sites for a couple of days now.
First off - the ipod nano is fine. Works on my son's computer well.
When I plug it into my 6 months new HP Pavilion laptop it says: 'found new hardware' and goes through the process of installing it, says it's been installed, but then shows 'unknown device'. In Device Manager it tells me there are no drivers installed, but when I try to follow the other instructions on this forum to update the drive to USB mass storage device (usbstor.inf), it tells me the best driver is installed and won't do it.
Many seem to have this problem with devices other than the iPod on Windows service pack 2 so I went to the Microsoft forums and they seem just as puzzled. I've updated all my Windows & HP software to the latest possible versions. The problem is definitely in the USB. Once, when I uninstalled the USB device and then rebooted the computer with my iPod still plugged into the port, it found my iPod, correctly identified it, and for a blissful moment I thought everything was fine! Then it reinstalled the USB drivers and made a comment to the effect that I should move the iPod to a USB 2.0 port for more effective operation and the iPod disappeared again.
I have 3 USB ports on my laptop, all are USB 2.0 and all 3 have the same problem.
I've tried all the stuff people have already said on here...does anyone have any NEW ideas? I'm hesitant to take it in for service because it seems to be a software problem that should be fixable.
Thanks in advance for your help and sorry about the long post.

This isn't a solution, but it's something I just tried and it may provide someone additional clues about's going on. I too think this is some sort of USB problem.
I have 6 USB ports. Two of them are USB 2.0. Since I applied the 03-23 update my computer hasn't recognized my nano at all. I would connect my nano and I couldn't get it to show up in My Computer, in iTunes, or on the far right side of the Start taskbar.
I just tried plugging my nano into the first USB port of my USB 2.0 pair and left the second 2.0 port empty. I then rebooted with the nano attached. Viola - I get a "Found New Hardware Apple iPod USB Device" message. My nano is now flashing "Do Not Disconnect." A small removeable storage icon with green arrow now shows on the far right side of the Start taskbar. If I click on it (like you're going to eject it) the note displayed says "Safely remove USB Mass Storage Device - Drive (F:)".
If I go into My Computer, "Removeable Disk (F:)" now shows there. However, if I try to follow Trevor's instructions in another post to "go into My Computer with iPod connected, right click it, wait till the right click menu comes up (could take a few minutes); click Format, . . ." I'm stuck. I do the right click, watch the hour glass and wait for the Format menu to come up but it never does. Eventually the hour glass just goes away. No message, no Format menu. The waiting hour glass just goes away.
My computer isn't as new as yours, but like you I am completely current on maintenance.
I'm going to keep trying . . . If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

  • HP Deskjet 350 install with windows 7 and usb to centronics cable

I'm trying to install the 350 (small portable color) on a Sony Vaio with Windows 7. The vaio doesn't have a centronics or ir port, so I picked up a usb to centronics cable, but I'm having trouble with the computer not being able to locate the printer even though it's attached via the usb port. I've downloaded the driver and installed it, but no luck. Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Patricia

Alright, sounds like you are sharing your printer but you are having some difficulty doing so. What I am going to suggest is that you remove the drivers that you have and follow the instructions from one of my colleagues, Shane, on how to assign an alternate driver (or you actually can search for the Deskjet 9800 driver) :
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-All-in-One-Software-Drivers-e-g-Windows-8/How-to-Assign-Alterna...
Follow those instructions and share the printer again and let me know if this resolves your issue!

  • Recommendations for external monitor in combination with USB 3.0 dock and X1 carbon touch

    Dear Community,
I'm waiting for my X1 carbon touch and USB 3.0 dock and keyboard/mouse to arrive any time soon. However, I'd be glad to get some help/recommendations on external monitor choice.
For instance, the new HP envy 27" caught my eye, since it includes speakers, but it comes with HDMI and Displayport connections only. As far as I understood, video connection itselft shouldn't be a problem using a DVI to HDMI adaptor, but how about the resolution of the X1 vs. a HD+ monitor, and how do I use the audio on this monitor (don't want to use the microphone jack in front of the dock, as it should look as minimalistic as possible)?
Is there a solution? via usb 3.0? or should I better consider another monitor? Anyways, DVI or HDMI, I don't want to connect a separate audio system to the dock. Any recommendations, or is it one of those gadgets that  has not been thought through well enough and you need to wait for the next generation to be developed?
    Many thanks for your help,
    Cheers, jcd

Since you don't want to use the jack on the dock, you could usethemini-DisplayPortontheX1cTouchasyourvideooutputoption because the version of DP on the X1c Touch includes the ability for audio to streamed over the DP connection in addition to video. This would require a compatible DP monitor.
You'll also want the monitor to support audio over the DP connection. The X1c Touch's graphics supports the output of an audio stream over DP and the machine should be be capable of this. This gives you two cables connecting to the X1c Touch -- the DP cable for audio and video and the USB 3.0 cable connecting to the dock. The dock would be attached to keyboard, mouse, USB accessories, and Ethernet (if necessary).
As far as what to look for in a monitor, my general recommendation is Dell Ultrasharp. They tend to be a good deal for an IPS monitor with at least an sRGB gamut and a solid warranty. I've never bothered to attempt to stream audio over DP because I have separate speakers for audio. In the same way that my last 3 laptops have been ThinkPads, my last three monitors have been Dell Ultrasharps. The graphics in the X1c Touch should be fine running a 1920x1080, so I wouldn't worry about resolution. It can be a little jarring to use monitors side-by-side when they have different pixel densities, so you'll likely end up treating them as separate display surfaces. I often have e-mail and Pandora open on my T420's screen while I'm doing the bulk of my work on my main monitors. If you think you'll be touching the screen a good bit, then you might want to look into buying a touch capable monitor. Otherwise your brain can become easily confused because it'll begin to think that all computer screens are touch-capable and you'll reach out and try to touch your desktop monitor without thinking.

  • Lenovo S531 va USB 3.0 Docking. No secondary monitor?

Hi. I have been having the strangest of problems with my Lenovo S531 and usb 3.0 docking. I recently first-time installed windows 7 and updated the the machine completely. I then installed the USB 3.0 docking, and everything worked great just a few days ago. When I started to use the computer again yesterday, my secondary monitor did not come on at all. At first I thought it was just a windows bug, so I restarted the machine, but when it came back on the problem still occurred. Then I tried switching to another monitor of the same type...and nothing. This was starting to get really strange, so I tried to reinstall and update to the latest docking drivers, but still nothing! At this point I started to get desperate so I tried multiple ways to install the drivers towards the docking, and nothing. I even tried to use a new and unopened docking (identical to the one I was using) and the same problem still occurred! *taking a deep breath* I have no idea what is going on, and for some reason all my devices in the device manager is gone to. Is there anyone who have experienced a similar problem that can help me?
P.s I have tried to identify the monitor through the screen resolution tab, but it seems like the monitor is not even plugged in. (have also tried to just plug the monitor directly in my computer without the docking, and that works just fine)

The adapter should work for any machine with USB 3.0.

  • X1 Carbon / ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock: Issues with connecting with more than one Dock

    Hello fellow users / Lenovo,
In our office we have several X1 Carbons and several ThinkPad USB 3.0 Docks (0A33970) located all over the office. We typically bring our X1 Carbons around and use each other's Dock during the course of work.
However, we recently face a problem with the Ethernet interface not working with other Docks, other than the Dock that the driver was installed with.
Using other Docks, the Ethernet interface comes up as a generic Ethernet device with a yellow warning triangle inside Control Panel.
Using the Dock that the driver was installed with, the Ethernet device works as normal.
It should be pretty easy to replicate this behaviour, just get an X1 Carbon (fresh, Windows 8.1) and connect a USB 3.0 Dock to it, and install appropriate drivers.Verify that the Ethernet port works correctly.
Next, disconnect the Dock and connect another Dock to the X1 Carbon. Observe that the Ethernet interface does not work, and see the yellow warning triangle icon under Control Panel.
Uninstalling and Reinstalling the drivers with the new Dock doesn't work either. Only the Dock that the driver was originally installed with will work.

Would love an official response to this.

  • Buggy USB 3.0 Dock

    Well well,
i just bought a new X1 Carbon plus USB 3.0 Dock. What should I say: I can't work with the docking!
I'm using a wireless Keyboard + Mouse (MS Arc series) and BOTH lag-as-hell. I Can't write even 1 sentence without the keyboard to lag and not type what i'm typing.
Same with the mouse. Moving the docking like 10cm away from mouse and keyboard improved the situation but it's still simply impossible to work with the docking. I tried different docking USB ports, all do the same.
Since it sometimes works for a few minutes without interruption and then starts hanging for a few seconds it dosn't seem to be a compleate wireless problem! It seems like the dock just messes everything up.
I'm on the latest USB Dock firmware and am using the latest WIN7 x64 drivers which lenovo offers at the website. USB 3.0 Intel drivers have been installed first, after that the docking drivers have been installed and the docking was plugged in, installing every single driver correctly (no issues reported by device manager).
is it just me or is the dock pure crap?

I just got my Helix and USB 3.0 dock last week...  I used the dock for displaylink, ethernet, harddrive dock, wireless mouse receiver and plugged some speakers.
Holy did I have issues with the dock seemingly rebooting, laggy mouse performance, even while transferring files from harddrive dock to network caused all my ram to be 100% used for the longest time.  To be fair, not sure if it's the fault of the file transfer but after taking a lunch and coming back, it had settled down (but there was an error in file copy)
Plugging in the speaker for the first time made the computer freak out too...
that was basically my day 1/2 experience...  Not a good first impression  I thought usb3 was supposed to be awesome.
Hoping that there is something in the works to improve performance.

  • Thinkpad X1 Mouse Issues with USB 3.0 Dock and WIndows 8.1

I have a new X1 (3444-CUU) that I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1. When I connected to the Thinkpad USB 3.0 Dock, there was an automatic updated of the firmware on the docking station.
Everything seems to be working except issues with my Keyboard and Mouse.Periodically, the mouse will disappear of the keyboard will simply stop working. Most recently, it was as if the delete key was stuck causing it to delete all my email (actually a feature I liked but unfortunately, can't allow).
Is there a known issue with wireless keyboard?

I have a possibly similar issue that seems to be related to the keyboard dock. In my case this is with logitec unified receiver, but what I found may help you narrow the issue's root cause.
I found that after a reboot, the dock's USB ports (bothh SS or USB 3.0) will not recognize logitech's unified receiver. Even though it is Windows reporting it, it seems to be related to the hardware. What I do to have minimally invasive 'functioning' system is to undock the Helix (use as tablet). This makes the genuine USB 2.0 port of the tablet accessible. I then plug the receiver into that port and wait until the mouse is recognized. Then remove the receiver, re-dock the tablet on the keyboard dock and plug the receiver into the dock's usb 3.0 port. Then everything works.
That seems to somehow circumvent part of the refreshing of the USB connected devices and allows them to work correctly.
I wonder if that addresses your issue. Of course I am opening another thread and ticket with that issue (will post a link after that)

  • ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock - Prevents ThinkPad Twist (S230) from booting (Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit)

Hi, I upgraded to Win 8.1 tonight and found the ThinkPad Twist wouldn't boot at all when the USB 3 dock was plugged in. When it tried to reboot I just get a permanent blank screen. When I power down and do a cold boot, I get the ThinkPad welcome screen but no boot options line prompt below it and it gets stuck on the ThinkPad logo. The only way I can get it to boot is to unplug the ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock USB cable from the machine then dreboot from cold again. It's a bit annoying and definitely didn't behave like this under Win 8.0 RTM just a few hours ago.
I also found the dock-attached external displays wouldn't work under Win 8.1, but updating the Dock firmware and the  DisplayPort firmware as mentioned in another discussion board fixed that prob at least.  But I still can't boot or reboot with the ThinkPad USB 3.0 Dock attached...  Help would be appreciated.
    TIA...

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks for the help. None of that fixed the problem, so I've run the tool and sent the results to DisplayLink support as you asked, with a link back to this thread. For your reference I have a Lenovo Service Request Number: 8001961163 on this problem. ( I mention this so we don't duplicate efforts).
Here's part of what I said to DisplayLink Support:
"I have all the latest drivers and updated the UEFI from Lenovo a couple of weeks ago. I restored a Windows 8.0 clone to see if the problem was present at that level, but I had the same problem, so I put Win 8.1 back. It used to work fine up until a week ago when I updated to Win 8.1, but as I said, I regressed to a Win 8.0 image and it persists there now, too.
The problem is when I restart Windows with the Dock connected, it’ll shut down normally then not reboot – it gets stuck on the Lenovo screen that asks to press Enter for the UEFI config. Same happens if I cold-boot it from power-off. Unplugging the USB3 cable and cold booting is the only way to get the PC going again.
Files attached show screen  shots of my troubleshooting progress. There was originally a “Mirage Driver” that the compatibility reporter was complaining about, so I removed that but still had the same problem after rebooting.
Personally, I think it’s a hardware or UEFI problem, as the problem happens before anything of Windows gets loaded at boot time."
    Best regards,
    Paul
