  • Is there a way to disable push mail from Yahoo? It's draining my battery

I'm on the prepaid plan and every 10-15 minutes my iphone turns on with a "The last transaction cost $0.00" message. I don't mind the message (although it is a bit annoying) but my problem is that this turns the LCD on for about 2 minutes at a time.
I charged my battery to 100% last night, haven't used it at all today and after just turning it on a few minutes ago I had the "Your battery life is at 10%" message followed by a 5% remaining message a few minutes later.
I've heard that it's the yahoo push mail service thats causing the phone to give the message (since it connects to the internet). My Yahoo account is my main one and I'd hate to have to login to yahoo's site each time to check it (the email functionality was a big selling point for me with the iphone). ATT/Apple don't seem to want to disable this message/"Feature", so I'm guessing I would need to step in and do something on my end.
Is there any way to disable yahoo mail from "pushing" messages to my phone? I can hit the Check Mail button if I have to.

    Hi Everyone,
To give an update on the situation: I disabled the Yahoo account and it seems to make a VERY NOTICEABLE difference in battery life - prior to this my battery would drain quite rapidly but since disabling it it's only lost about 15-20% over the past 24 hours (and thats with using the video/music/internet functions for about an hour and a half).. Prior to this it would have been close to drained under the same circumstances.
Also, to confirm, the "Your last transaction cost 0.00" messages only appear when accessing the internet manually now. before they appeared every 10-15 minutes with no interaction from myself at all (while it was sitting idle, while watching videos, while charging, while in my pocket, etc..)
I do have it set to only check Manually but Yahoo would seem to check on it's own even though this setting is checked (I'm guessing it has to do with the Push setting). Aside from draining the battery, it was quite annoying having 30 or so "Your transaction cost $0.00" messages to click through whenever I turned on the phone.
I did have the screen set to shut off after 1 min, but the 'your transaction cost..' messages would first wake the iphone up, the screen would stay bright for about 30 seconds, dim for about 30 seconds, then turn on bright again for 1 minute until it shut off. I'm guessing the screen (being on for about 10-15 minutes per hour due to this) and the fact that yahoo accesses the internet on such a frequent basis are what cut the battery life down.
I really wish I could make Yahoo work more like Gmail and have it manually search for new mail

  • Yahoo push mail is not working

After 2.0 upgrade, Yahoo push mail has stopped working. In settings "Fetch New Data" is set to "Push". But I don't get any news emails from Yahoo pushed to my iPhone. I have tried delete and reconfigure Yahoo mail, and also resetting the phone but still couldn't get push email to work.
I've set a 25 message limit - I see 25 mails in my inbox but I also see 3 phantom messages the end. These 3 phantom messages show up with only the ">" sign with no sender or subject and I can't read them.
Has anyone seen anything similar and have suggestions to resolve this? Thanks!

I've had my iPhone for about a week now, one of the first to get it the Australian release. My yahoo mail was coming across fine for the first day or so but then it stopped. I removed the email account from the phone and re-added it. It hasn't even been able to grab my folders let alone my email. It just animates the little spinner and says "checking for mail..." forever.
I just saw on another web site, somebody claimed if you removed the email account, went to yahoo and changed your password to something without special character, only letters and numbers, then re-add it that it would work. This based on the some story that the iPhone has trouble sending those characters. As my email was working at one point and since my password only has letters and numbers in the first place, I doubt this is what is going on. • Yahoo push mail DEAD

Yahoo stopped pushing mail to my iphone 3G. I get gmail pushed just fine, just not yahoo. I have deleted and re-initialized my yahoo mail via the "yahoo" presets when setting up a mail account. I have also done a "factory restore" of my phone's OS (setting it up as a new phone and NOT restoring from backup). On a side note, doing the restore has done wonders for battery life. Much much better. Any clue on why yahoo is no longer pushing??

  • How does Yahoo Push mail work?

When you have the push mail option on, is the iPhone always connecting to the web looking for new mail?.....or does yahoo send it to the phone as soon as you receive it? Just curious as to how push mail will affect my battery life.

    MobileDev wrote:
Whenever there's new mail, the server sends a response over the same connection. This is the "push" notification.
    I don't think that's quite accurate.
From what I've been able to tell, Yahoo! Push is rather non-standard. Rather than using IMAP IDLE or standard P-IMAP, it uses a proprietary UDP-based form of out-of-band notification. When the phone gets one of these OOB notifications, then it opens a new connection to the IMAP server and checks for mail.
I suspect that many of the reliability problems stem from these OOB notifications not being sent/received correctly (packet loss, perhaps?)

  • Yahoo! Push Mail stopped working (does not Push anymore!)

    Hey,
I have my iPhone 3G for about a month now. And before you ask, I did not Jailbreak it or whatsoever.
Push Mail via Yahoo! worked fine for me for about 2 weeks and after than eMails stopped getting pushed to my device. I tried deleting and re-adding my account, but still, nothing gets Pushed.
I checked all my settings and they are all fine (afterall why should they not be, I never changed anything in the first place!), everything is set to "Push".
This is really annoying me, because I wont get my eMails unless I go into the Mail App and press the "Refresh" button.

Same here, was working fine until a couple of weeks ago and then stopped. Only updates now when in the Mail App.

  • Yahoo Push mail

Is this available yet? If so, how is it set up?

From what I read from other posters on this forum once you set up the account through the iPhone it should work as a "push" account. It works that way when I am on my wifi network at home, but on the Edge nework I have to refresh as well.
This is my first smart phone so I am new to the push mail. I am open to any knowledge that anyone wants to part with on the subject.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yup, by TOS I meant terms-of-service
As far as I know the way it works is that (1) your phone maintains a connection with (one of the) Nokia servers, so that as soon as the Nokia server has anything to say (e.g. "new e-mail"), your phone gets it; and (2) the Nokia servers fetch your e-mails so that (1) can work.
Now, I don't know how (2) works. In theory the Nokia server should act like an IMAP client, and should be using IDLE in order to fetch the e-mails as soon as the server gets them.
I don't use Nokia Messaging anymore (I now prefer Profimail on my E75), but for some time I did research a bit on that topic, and noticed that the Nokia server was making an IMAP connection to my e-mails server (fastmail.fm) every 15min, i.e. not keeping it open permanently using IDLE. It may be that during those 15min sessions IDLE was used, and then the Nokia server simply decided to close and re-open the connection. That may sound illogical, but perhaps it's more reliable this way.
In any case, I was getting my e-mails on the phone instantly, i.e. the reconnection every 15min had no impact on the actual push delivery.
Apparently there are many people having problems with Nokia Messaging. I don't know if Gmail or Yahoo allow you to see a connection log, but if they do, please have a look and see if and how often a server from Nokia/Finland is connecting to your IMAP server.
Also, I would just in case log on on email.nokia.com and make sure that your account is active (the E72 should give you a lifetime subscription, but please double check).

  • Has anyone got Push mail to work after migration t...

Has anybody sucessfully got Push mail working after migration from BT Yahoo mail to the new BT Mail server?
I'm still on the old BT Yahoo mail server and Push mail works fine on my iPhone
But people have told me that once migrated to the new BT Mail server, Push mail isn't available
BT tell me that it is, but there's a couple postings on the web saying Push mail won't work
So, my question is, is there somebody out there who who has been migrated to the new BT Mail server and who can confirm they can still get their @btinternet.com address post-migration to work as Push mail on their iPhone or ipad devices?

There is no push mail on BTMail. Once you have been migrated to BTMail you will need to have your devices fetch emails. There is apparently no plans to change this.

  • Push Mail slow or not working

I currently have the OG Iphone. After ugrading to firmware 2.0 my Push Mail through Yahoo is either delayed or I don't get it at all. I have tried reseting the account as well as deleting it, then entering it back again. Anyone else with the same issue?

I am having the same problem. Email hasn't appeared since Sunday 7/13 and attempting to manually download just hangs on "connecting"
UPDATE: After reading another thread, it sppears that shutting off the phone (completely), then powering it back on fixes the problem - at least for a while. Working for me so far.

  • MOBILE DOCUMENTS offers Cloud-Boosted Push Mail ,o...

http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/mobile-documents-by-visiarc  could be worth checking out, this is optimized for symbian ^3..try It and as usuall give them feedback...it´s a beta softvare, remember
MOBILE DOCUMENTS offers Cloud-Boosted Push Mail - fast, easy, nice, intuitive and with a unique feature set that makes it different from any other mobile mail client and experience. Mobile Documents is the only app to do mobile documents, solving the #1 problem in mobile mail, heavy attachments. With unique patent pending remote attachmnet handling and cherry picking technologies it offers a different user experience and represents a paradigm shift in email. Please download and try it out. Enjoy!
    Features
Mobile Documents is a full-fledged email client, like on your desktop. It includes two parts: (1) one part in the cloud and (2) one app. To understand, the app can be viewed as a smart remote client on the Nokia phone that securely connects to the the cloud server-side. This means that all heavy stuff remains in the cloud where the heavy-lifting is done. For you that means that Mobile Documents stays in sync with all your primary email account all the time. Emails you send with Mobile Documents will be available on your desktop or web email, just as email you delete will be deleted, read/flag status etc. Here is a list of highlighted features:
    NEW - Multi-Touch Pinch Zoom
Touch Double-Tap (toggles between fit-screen and 100%), Long-Press initiates speed zoom mode, Swipe to pan + more in the toolbox
Cloud-Boosted Viewing View attachments instantly, without any downloading first (streaming used)
Cherry Picking Add attachments from emails (sent or received) and have heavy attachments sent instantly - no download - save 100% on bandwidth, time and cost
Save Roaming Cost Read the text of individual doc pages (KB) instead of downloading entire heavy attachments (MB)
PIN After providing yur password you create a four-digit PIN of your choice. Instead of typing the long password all the time, you just input the short PIN that protects your email. However, your password is never stored on your device (loss/theft of your device - either disable device PIN or change password via web interface).
Document Support Images, PDF and Office documents
Email Account Support Plug-and-play IMAP and native Microsoft Exchange (but not POP), works with Ovi, Gmail, Yahoo!, GMX and many more (but not yet with Hotmail, Live and MSN)
NEW - Notification Widget Mobile Documents integrates with the messaging framework in Symbian^3

This new BB looks great! But..when will it be available in Europe??? I live in The Netherlands an dI want to replace my current phone which is a Storm, with a version with a keyboard, so this new Tour looks exactly what I have in mind!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Nokia N8 PUSH-MAIL Bug/Problem,need to solve urgen...

Dear Administrator,I am saurabh from india and recently i brought your New NOKIA N8,Its good one ,but when i configure my GMAIL a/c on PUSH MAIL SERVICE of my N8 and when i read my e-mail on COMPUTER or IN ANY OTHER non- mobile device and then i refresh same a/c on Push-Mail of my Nokia N8,"It Still Showing 'READ' message as 'UNREAD' " on my Nokia N8 Push mail client,so kindly help me about this issuee.
I am not using any 3rd party PUSH mail service on my Nokia N8, I just using INBUILD NOKIA E-MAIL SERVICE for my GMAIL account, this problem is occurring on Nokia's in-build Email client.
    So need to solve,
another thing i saw that when I am browsing on my N8, and sometime i got call that time the "Packet data Connection icon put on hold" its fine upto call end but its remain as it is even i finish my call i.e ON HOLD but surprisely i am able to Surf internet.

What do you see exactly, for Yahoo?  Do the emails come down fine when you hit the sync button, but they aren't pushed down immediately?  Can you time it to see how long they typically take to arrive, when you don't sync manually?
As for rediff, I'm pretty sure (like 80% confident) that it's supposed to be polled every 15 minutes on the server.  So it should take 0-15 minutes (7.5 mins average) to receive new emails.  Rediff (unlike Yahoo) isn't techically push email.  What exactly are you seeing for rediff?
    Thanks.

  • Push mail accounts

Do push mail accounts use a lot less battery since it does not check the email every few minutes like fetch does? Is MobileMe and Yahoo the only email servers that offer push?

    seabreeze1982 wrote:
how long will it take the i-phone to sync up to my computer.... As in, if I delete mail on my computer, how long will my i-phone take to delete that mail? As I would like the e-mail to be synced, and all changes that I make on my computer to show up on my i-phone... Thanks
In that case what you want is imap. Don't use pop.
Even Gooogle's imap is very good at this, but if your mail server offers imap you should find it quite acceptable.
A change made on your home machine is instantly reflected at the iphone.
If using pop, there is no syncing that is reliable. Its always a compromise, with one machine set never to delete mail and the other set to always delete mail and quite often things get lost. Once you go Imap, you will never go back to pop. I know people who forward all their pop mail to a Gmail account just so they can use imap because their ISP does not support imap.

  • ITouch Push Mail Free?

    Hi All,
Tried searching, but probably didnt try hard enough so please dont flame me
I was wondering with the new firmware 2.0, which I purchased, it comes with PUSH mail. Its working perfectly but then I noticed on the Apple site, MobileME. Is my push mail the samething? I didnt install anything for MobileME and want to know if I am being charged or not for using the PUSH service?

    Thanks for the reply
I noticed in the settings menu under wifi, it said PUSH. I turned it on and started getting my mail on my iTouch (pushed 15 mins / 30 mins / 1 hr or manually. I have mail through Rogers (Canada) who use Yahoo for mail services.

  • PUSH MAIL VS PUSH NOTIFICATION - BATTERY CONSUMPTION

I have a question. Today, we have the option to use PUSHMAIL application which uses APPLE PUSH NOTIFICATION SERVICES or to use PUSH MAIL CAPABLE EMAIL accounts such as Exchange, Yahoo or MSGPUSH.COM in order to get pushmail on the iphone.
Which is more BATTERY consuming? a push email account or and push notification application?
    Regards,
    Hernán

Alright boys and girls of the forum I think it's reasonably safe at this point to conclude that the whole battery drainage situation I've been having with the 2 iPhones at our office is caused by the push feature. With it turned off and the iPhones on an hourly fetch setup only 1/3 of the battery is used at the day end with moderate use.
It makes sense that push would drain significantly more power from the battery but still it doesn't make the situation less disappointing. The ideal iPhone would probably have to last longer with push enabled than it currently does but I'm sure that push is still a trade most people can do without when an hourly fetch is readily available.
    Many thanks for your contributions.
