X2 and SFP+

Hi all,
Say I have SFP+ module on Distribution and X2 modules on Core, can I connect them using either MMF or SMF or should the modules type on both switches be same? Kindly help.
Thank,
Ram

You probably need a converter between them.

How to show module and SFP information include hardware serial number on Nexus switch?                 Thanks.

    Hi,
The show inventory command will give you details of the Nexus chassis, power supplies, Supervisor, Fabric, I/O modules (including FEX if you have them) etc. To get the details of the installed SFP/SFP+ then you'll need to use the show interface transceiver command.

  • Cisco 4900M integrated X2 ports, CVR-X2-SFP10G and SFP-10G-SR

    Hi,
We are going to order two(2) cisco 4900M switches for core and twelve (12) 2960S switches for access (4 stacks with 3 switches each), connected to the core with 10G MM optical paths (up to 300M each).  In addition I have one gigabit half-card but it is not related to my questions here. Please see my attached diagram.
    So my questions are:
    1. Point 1.Can we use integrated eight X2 ports of every of the both 4900M switches as plugging into four of them four convertors CVR-X2-SFP10G and to plug on every of the convertors sfp tranceivers SFP-10G-SR - as it is described on the diagram, or I need for something more in addition to described? I found only some minimum soft releases to use as requirement to use these convertors and sfp tranceivers, but is there something additional I need?
Note:I'm asking that because Dynamic Conf Tool doesn't give me to do such configuration, actually these convertors and SFPs are missing there at all, but it sometimes happens with some products...  In documentation it is described this should work (if I didn't pass something which is my main consern and why I'm asking here).
2.Point 3.If this shouldn't work, the other alternative (not described in my diagram) is to use X2-10GB-SR modules without any SFPs - just ot use SC connectors for the optical cables instead of LC. So my question in that case is will 10G links work between X2-10GB-SR at one side and SFP-10G-SR at the other side where I have 2960S switches and this is the only option? Is is expected to have some problems in that scenario?
Note:Actually if Point 1 is workable I prefer to use it instead of Point 2 because of minor price optimization when using SFPs with convertors in comparisson to X2-10GB-SR.
    3. If the both variants are possible, which one is preffered and why, what advantages does it have (for example low latency of something else)?
    Thank You in Advance
    Asen

Just for your information, a fiber link does not care if one end of the fiber has an GBIC (SC-type connector) and the other end has a SFP (LC-type of connector); or any other transceiver footprint (X2, CFP, etc.)..  The thing that is important is that each module is the same specification, and matches the fiber type and link length of the network (10GBASE-SX in this example).
    Good luck.

  • Cisco 3845 didn't detect HWIC-1FE and SFP GLC-LHSM

Cisco 3845 not detect HWIC-1FE and
    SFP GLC-LHSM.
What is latest IOS which will detect WIC HWIC-1FE , SFP GLC-LH-SM.

    Hi,
You need a minimum of 12.4(15)T for HWIC-1FE Support on 3845 routers.
Please refer the below URL for details:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps5854/product_data_sheet0900aecd80581fe6_ps5853_Products_Data_Sheet.html
For the HWIC-1FE and HWIC-2FE the minimum level is Cisco IOS 12.4(15)T.

  • Connting gbic and sfp

    Hi,
I have two switches, 3750 (12 SFP ports) and 2950 (with 2 GBIC ports) and I want to connect the GBIC from 2950 and SFP from 3750 interfaces at gigabit speed. Are there special fiber patches for doing this (with one end for SFP and the other for GBIC)?
    Thanks in advance

    HI Gabriel,
Depending on the type of SFP you are using, you will need one of the following types of cables:
    Single Mode LX LC-to-SC Connectors
    Fiber Multimode SX LC-to-SC Connectors
The SFP uses an LC-terminated cable ....
Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

  • Fiber Patch cord bewteen X2-10GB-SR and SFP-10G-SR

I would like to know which patch cord should I be using between X2-10GB-SR and SFP-10G-SR. The mention of part no would be very helpful.

Thanks Sulaiman for the correction. I should not have relied purely on memory as it has potential of failing :-).

  • 4900M does it work with X2 and SFP mixed together?

I would like to build 4900M with the following interfaces.
    11 x 10G X2
    11 x SFP MultiMode.
Is possible to populate above mix and match for 4900?
    4900M have two slots,
    1st slot -> 8 ports 10G line card
    2nd slot -> 8 ports 10G line card
Another question is is okay to mix X2 and Cisco TwinGig Converter together at 8-Port (2:1) 10 Gigabit Ethernet (X2) Half Card ?
    Thank you in advance,
    John

    Hi,
X2 is supported on 4900m switches. Mixing should work as well because the twingig works as a 10G transceiver.

  • WS-C2960X-48FPS-L and SFP support Auto MDI/MDX or is crossover needed?

I have two WS-C2960X-48FPS-L running c2960x-universalk9-mz.150-2.EX5 and using two GLC-Ts in each switch etherchanneled together.
    I put a straight-thru cable in and SW1 shows up/up and SW2 shows down/line protocol down. Do I need a cross-over cable?
Nothing is in err-disable.  I did a shut and not shut on all interface and still one side is up/up and other side is down/down.  Really odd.
Both sides have exact identical config.

    Jason,
I remembered seeing a few posts regarding 2960X and a lot of SFP issues (HERE).  The only solution was to downgrade to EX3 or EX4.
Ok, now here's the rub:  EX4 was INITIALLY the solution to solve this issue regarding SFP/SFP+ issues with 2960X.  The rub is even EX4 people started seeing MORE issues (other than SFP/SFP+).  So the final "recommendation" is to go further down to EX3.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend anyone use 15.2(2)E.  If you have to use 15.2(2)E then be careful.  If you have 802.1x and PoE phones, AVOID 15.2(2)E or who-do-you-call (you won't be able to call someone.  LITERALLY!)?

  • Cisco 8500 and SFPs

    Hi All
Does the 8500 support any SMOF SFPs? data sheet only talks about a MM based SFP.
    Thanks
    J

    Scott, spoke to the PM,
8500 is positioned primarily for Service providers and large campus due to its features and scale. It is not and cannot be restricted only to SPs. As long as you can validate the fit with customer's feature needs and deployment architecture.
See positioning and feature comparison of the controllers here:

  • GBIC AND SFP

Am a little bit confuse as to the differencen sfp and GBIC.
I have also come across gigabit Stack gbic. Any contribution to make this clear
    will be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Jitez

SFP and GBIC are just interface units that makes the users having a better choice of what to be able to connect to an switch, instead of having a switch model for single mode fiber(LH,ZX) , multi mode fiber, copper, CWDM and so on... The make an switch that have the logical interface and then just make the physical interface connectible and interchangeable in the switch.. Thus only needed to make fewer models.
The difference between SFP and GBIC are primarily just an big size difference, it's really impossible to connect an GBIC to an SFP port and vice versa, so there is no worries about connecting the "wrong" interface unit.
The gigastack gbic are for making an connection that you could stack switches with and only use one GBIC port instead of two if you use ordinary Ethernet GBICs for it.
Hope this was to some help/assistance?

  • Zc706 board with PCIe and SFP with tandem boot

I am trying to add gigabit ethernet via SFP (ala xapp1082) to the zc706 pcie trd reference design and I get the DRC error:
[Drc 23-20] Rule violation (HDTC-6) Non-stage-one logic illegally placed - Non-stage-one logic 'z7_pcie_trd_i/gig_ethernet_pcs_pma_0/inst/pcs_pma_block_i/transceiver_inst/gtwizard_inst/inst/gtwizard_i/gt0_GTWIZARD_i/gtxe2_i' is placed at site 'GTXE2_CHANNEL_X0Y10' inside stage one Pblock 'z7_pcie_trd_pcie_7x_0_0_main_pblock_boot'. Non-stage-one logic should not be placed inside a stage one region.
Which I take to understand that the gigabit transfer for the SFP is in the tandem stage 1 boot area (the small .bit file just for enumerating the pcie port) and it needs to be in the stage 2 area. Can it be moved to stage 2 and if so how? Or can that DRC error be suppressed safely?
    Thanks,
    Clark

yes you do that in the XDC files. Give the Location constratints for the GT which you want to lock. IF you are using the SFP, then the GT locations are primiary fixed based on the locations of the SFP's. You can check those locations from the ZC706 user guide. You can give pin locations to these for the GT TX, RX outputs which will automatically lock the GT hard blocks as required.

  • N2K-C2232PP-10GE and SFP-FC8G-SW

    Hi
We install our new Storage and we would like to connect it trough our Nexus 2k infrastructure, so our question is very simple:
Is it possible to do it trough the SFP-FC8G-SW in the N2K-C2232PP-10GE? Are they compatible and can we configure the Ports for it?
To do it trough FCoE is not applicable, 'cos the HBAs for it are to expansive.
Thank you in advance for your support.

  • Cisco 3925 and SFP modules

I'm trying to install a MGBSX1 into the Cisco 3925 but it's doesn't seem it's detecting it for some reason.
I've changed media type and I've tested with another SFP module (GLC-SX-MM) which works fine.
Am I missing a command to enable this type of module on the Cisco 3925?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Looking at the SFP compatability table for 39XX series routers.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/routers/3900-series-integrated-services-routers-isr/relevant-interfaces-and-modules.html#formfactor
    The MGBSX1 is NOT mentioned
Looks like the MGBSX1 is only compatable with the Small Business switch family.
