X200 cannot sleep / shut down

I have a X200 which is hardly 2 months old. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, 4GB of RAM. The issue I have is that it does not sleep (standby) or shut down. It just stalls at a blank screen (for sleep) or the shut down screen. The one thing I notice is that my WiFi radio does not turn off.
My suspicion was true. When I rebooted with the Wifi radio off, everything worked perfect. I might also add that the WiFi works as expected when it is on. It only seems to affect the sleep and shut down.
I've got Lenovo tech support to check it out and they've changed both the WiFi card and the whole system board. Yet this issue comes back. I've updated all the latest drivers as well.
I'm now at a loss why this is happening. Could this be caused by other unrelated hardware? Fingerprint scanner? RAM? or is this a software issue? If so, what can I do?
Appreciate any help if anyone has experienced the same. Thanks.

Hi
I had the same problem (or nearlly the same).
Here are logs I had from the WHOCRASHED software:
crash dump file: C:WindowsMinidump112810-13322-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntkrnlpa.exe (nt+0x67966)

Bug check description: This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver which cannot be identified at this time.
but also
On Tue 2.11.2010 20:42:19 GMT your computer crashed

This was probably caused by the following module: eamonm.sys (eamonm+0x7031)

Bug check description: This indicates that a kernel-mode driver attempted to access pageable memory at a process IRQL that was too high.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: eamonm.sys (Amon monitor, ESET).
Google query: eamonm.sys ESET DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Anyway, my problem was solved by uninstalling ESET smart security. Maybe it will help you as well (if you use it).

I cannot close the icloud backup message and I cannot even shut down the iPad to use any of the apps. Any tips or help would be appreciated

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Mountain Lion won't sleep, shut down, restart, or log out.

    Hi All,
After Mountain Lion my 2010 iMac 27" won't sleep, shut down, restart, or log out.
Basically most functionalities of clicking the apple icon are disabled - "About this Mac" doesn't work either.
    Please help!
Before Apple fixes this, is there another way of putting my Mac to sleep or shut down?

Just adding another voice to the chorus.  Since upgrading to Mountain Lion my computer will not sleep.  The cursor freezes when I try to invoke sleep but the computer and monitor remain on.  The cursor unfreezes when I tap the spacebar the way I would normally do to wake from sleep.  Fortunately, shutdown, restart and logout function normally, so I guess I should count my blessings.  This isn't my only problem with Mountain Lion, but I didn't want to muddy the waters on this thread with other issues.

  • HT201276 The information *****. I'm trying to force quit because my cursor is missing and frozen. I can't just get the machine to close because I have to click on options: 'restart cancel sleep shut down'. So I've tried force quitting and nada. Nothing ha

    Aaaaaarrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhh!!!!!!
I was typing along and then all of the sudden my cursor disappeared! I can't find it. I've tried shutting down my Mac, but I can't do that because the box pops up when I hit the on/off button asking if I want to restart, sleep, cancel or shut down. I've tried hitting return. Nothing.

    I called Apple - it's a holiday.
I only bougth this Mac in late July. It took a while to download the new operating system. My track pad hasn't been working, I haven't been able to drag my fingers over it and scroll down. I'm pretty stupid, but the woman who normally handles my tech problems couldn't figure the track pad problem out either. There is a local guy who fixes Macs, but I've owned this for less than 90 days so it should be covered and I shouldn't have to pay for seeing this guy.
But now I'm losing at least a day's work. HELP! Thanks.

Thanks guys (I'm using guys in a non-sexist way in case one or both of you are differently equipped).
My problem 71 is that I live 125 kms from the nearest Mac Store. And it's a holiday so I'm losing a day's work. The local guys who does repair Macs is great. But since I couldn't contact Apple I would feel obliged to pay him for his services.
I realize I am under the 90-day service period and I do plan to buy Apple Care, as I get close to the end of the 90s days. But the failing, it seems to me, in Apple Support is they it is built around you having access to your machine or the web. And if, like today, I couldn't access them then the service is moot.
I'm lucky in that I still have my old MacBook pro stuck in a closet in reserve.
I do appreciate you and WZZZ taking the time to help me out.

  • FW800 won't sleep -- shuts down instead...

So there are many here who are having sleep/power control related problems, however I'm having a slightly different problem. As the subject line states, my FW800 Dual G4 won't sleep. Rather, when I select sleep it simply shuts down.
I have replaced the battery, reset the PRAM, reset the PMU, and reset the NVRAM, without success.
I suspect, however, maybe it's related to software as I can load up new system software and everything works fine. By the time I update everything to the latest software, including iLife, it no longer sleeps.
Short of taking the machine in, does anyone have any further ideas?

    I have this;
If your Mac happily goes to sleep but won't wake up--Hold down the power switch to force-reboot your machine and get it running again.
Don't worry-your Mac isn't narcoleptic. Its Open Firmware system or NVRAM (nonvolatile RAM) is likely corrupt, and your Mac can't remember how to wake up.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Command-Option-O-F key combo until you see a somewhat intimidating command-line display that ends with the Open Fimware prompt. Type the following line:
    reset-nvram
press the return key on your keyboard
    set-defaults
    press return
    reset-all
    press return
Your Mac will reboot. Once it's running, put it back to sleep to test. If the problem recurs your Energy Saver preferences may be the culprit. Delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file (go to Finder/Hard drive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration)--don't worry, your Mac will regenerate a new one--and then restart to see if that rights the wrong.
Still didn't work? Might be time to call AppleCare or see an Apple Genius or a technician
    Cheers! DALE

  • MacBook wont wake up from sleep, shuts down randomly, and won't burn. . .

Ever since I upgraded my MacBook to Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.4 from Tiger (and also purchased and installed Office Mac 2008), it will not wake up from sleep. If I close it while it is still awake, (which I normally would without problems before I upgraded) it will not wake up when I open it; the screen just stays black and I have to use the power button to restart it. This also happens when it falls asleep naturally after being on screen saver. It is a really big annoyance and I know that it must be damaging my computer.
Also, now it will randomly shut down if it does not have the power adapter plugged in, which never happened before.
ALSO, my CD burn attempts will fail midway and say "medium write error".
Can my computer not handle all of the new software I put on it or something? I feel as though it's slowly deteriorating, and it's not even 2 years old. Do I need to buy more memory or disk space? I am really clueless as to how to fix these problems. I'm only 16 and really can't afford to spend money on getting it looked at, so PLEASE help

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
You need to give us more info about your computer: RAM, speed, HD size, freespace etc.
Look at the activity monitor and console logs for potential issues.
Normally a computer will run faster and better with Leopard.
You need to take inventory of any Tiger apps that are not Leopard compatible that may be problematic. Also check what items you have in your login pane.
Have you recently run the disk utility and repaired HD and permissions?

  • G5 will not sleep (shuts down instead) !?

Appreciate any help here guys. Twin 2.5 G5 has started shutting itself down as opposed to sleeping. This occurs if I select sleep from the menu or the energy saver reaches the time set for it to sleep.
When this happens there are 4 to 5 clicks from the tower (same as the normal single click at power down) and then it shuts down.
    Log states: Jul 2 15:20:04 localhost kernel[0]: ApplePMU::PMU forced shutdown, cause = -122
    Appreciate any help....
    Thanks

Hi, and a Warm Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Power Mac G5 Forum!
There is some recent discussion of -122 here
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=984175&start=0&tstart=0
It seems that in this case the predictions of doom were somewhat pessimistic. Apparently.

  • 10.4.7 has sleep/shut down bug?

My iMac G5 has worked flawlessly for almost two years until the most recent update: 10.4.7. Now it doesn't know the difference between sleep and shut down. I had never experienced that problem ever, until 10.4.7. I already reset the PRAM a few times, but that doesn't help. I even opened up my Mac and reset the SMU, and it did it again. I'm tempted to do a clean install and put 10.4.6 back and forget 10.4.7. Anyone know if Apple will release a fix soon?

    Hi, Carla.
I don't believe this is a bug in 10.4.7 but rather an issue specific to your computer. I suggest following these general iMac G5 troubleshooting steps:1. See if your computer's serial number is in the range specified in the "iMac G5 Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues" document.
    2. Rule out potential hardware problems. Run the Apple Hardware Test that came with the computer. Instructions for doing so will be found in the hardcopy manual that accompanied your computer. For additional details, see my "Apple Hardware Test" FAQ.
    3. Check the diagnostic LEDs, a feature of your iMac G5. See "About the iMac G5 diagnostic LEDs."
    4. If your iMac G5 will not turn on, see "iMac G5: Troubleshooting when your computer won't turn on."
    5. See also the iMac Service & Support site.
    6. Check the iMac G5 Discussions for similar reports from other users.
    7. As a general check, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
    8. If the computer is either under warranty or covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, don't hesitate to take advantage of your warranty and contact AppleCare. Before installing future software updates, you may wish to consider the advice in my "Installing Software Updates" FAQ. Taking the steps therein before installing an update often helps avert problems and gives you a fallback position in case trouble arises.
    Good luck!

  • Toshiba B55-C5300 sleep/shut down problems

Toshiba B55-C5300 will not shut down with the shut down option and will not sleep when the lid is closed .... The only way I can shut the computer down is to press and hold the power button. The laptop constantly runs now unless I shut it down. I have ran into this problem about a month and some ago and had to do a format to solve the problem. It is back.I am guessing it is from some type of Windows update possibly. Not sure which one though. Any suggestions?  I tried to do a bios update but it has a fail in it and was not able to install it from the Toshiba site. I tried to install the newest one. Thank you for any help anyone can provide. I would like to get this resolved so I don't have to continually do a format everytime this problem comes around again. Eva

I would do another Refresh this time.
Settings > Change PC settings > Update and recovery tab > Recovery tab > Refresh your PC without affecting your files
Disable Automatic Update and install only the Important updates - one-at-a-time. Reboot and check the sleep functions after each one to identify the culprit.

  • Computer won't wake from sleep; shuts-down unexpectedly

I've got older PB (2004). This just started happening. The computer will not wake from sleep, either when I close the screen or manually put it to sleep. I have reset the PRAM and PMU, but no change. Further, it now shuts itself down unexpectedly. Sometimes a hear the fan going hard before it shuts down, other times it just shuts down. It won't turn back on unless I reset the PMU. I think the battery and the cable are fine. I don't have anything plugged into the computer when it does this (other than power cable). Any suggestions?

    Hello Matt,
This is just to let you know that I have had the same thing happen to me this week and that I plan to closely follow your thread so that hopefully I may benefit from your responses. I, too, am using an older Powerbook (15", 1.33 MHz) and OS 10.3.9.
My problem began several days ago when I set up my first wireless router. Once it was up and running I set out to re-locate the router to the farthest point in my house. While traveling back and forth between the router and my laptop, I suddenly found that my laptop was totally blank and unresponsive (although the power light was on). I could not make it shut off, or start up. Using a second computer I turned to this support site, and by the end of the day I had learned enough to remove the battery over night while the reserve unit charged. The next morning I was able to reset the PMU and as a result I found that I could use the computer. ( I also decided to order a new battery, which is on its way as I write. I realize that it may or may not help). At present I am able to start the laptop by resetting the PMU, and while it is on everything seems fine. However, if I close the case, or put it into sleep mode, it dies immediately. (I am able to use the PMU to restart.)
If you determine what caused your laptop to malfunction I hope that you will post it here for my education...and I will do the same. Thank you. Gferg

  • Yoga 13: cannot be shut down

After shutdown, the screen goes black but the power button is lit unless I hold it down to power off. Tried the "turn off fast boot" suggestion, which did not work. I think I tried to shut down in safe mode once and it did not work either. Has anyone else seen the problem and fixed it successfully? Thanks.

i think' it's because of the usb mouse. can you just try shutting it down by un-pluging it?

I have an early 2009 macbook running OSX 10.8.  If I close the lid or manually select sleep/shutdown it works fine, BUT whenever I plug in my iphone to sync or charge, the macbook does not respond to a sleep/shutdown command (whether manual or by closing the lid).  I cannot be the only person this is happening to.
Is there a fix for this?

  • Replacing battery in sleep shuts down Mac...?

Is not the battery hot swappable? I let the comp go to sleep by putting the screen down and waiting for the light to flash. Then I swap out the battery and then have to turn the whole thing back on.
    Is this right?
Oh and it happens whether the battery is dead, dying, or both fully charged.
    Thanks!!
