X200's UltraBase

Hi all,
After I attached my X200 to the Dock, I turned the computer on. After that, it raised an error "Missing Operating System". Note, though, that the computer itself works well with the operating Vista. I'm just wondering that if I did wrong or the UltraBase is defective.
Can anybody help?
Thanks.

Solved!
Go to Solution.

Finally, I got the solution. The windows can not start because I plug the memory card to the laptop and UltraBase automatically finds the Windows Operating from the memory/usb first.
I keep this post for those who had same trouble.
Cheers.

  • X200/201 Ultrabase Blu-Ray drive

Does anybody know if Lenovo made a Blu-ray drive for the X200/X201 Ultrabase?
I can't find one on the UK website, but a search on the web finds an old writer that cost £700.
I am only needing a ROM not a writer.

If you get a lenovo one, I would recommend FRU P/N: 45N7459 (aka Panasonic UJ242).
I am pretty sure the Panasonic UJ232A came before the Panasonic UJ242.
When I bought my Thinkpad x201 + Ultrabase x200 the BluRay Burner was listed as an option for the Ultrabase x200, but Lenevo did not have it available for purchase at the time. I did find a new BluRay Burner on a different website at purchase time for the Ultrabase x200. It cost a 1000 dollars. I did not buy the Burner for 1K.
However, I recently got a Panasonic UJ242 with Lenovo's name on it, and the part number above is correct.
If you want to look beyond the part number, I know that Dell has at least one model laptop with a Panasonic Drive that meets the height requirements, and Sony has at least one model laptop with a Panasonic Drive that meets the height requirements. However, the shape of the drive door for a Dell laptop or a Sony laptop may not meet the requirements for the Ultrabase x200.
I am not saying that the Panasonic UJ232A will not work, but I do not know where to get the proper BD-R media for it. I would guess a blank Philips BD-R disk would work based on the fact that a blank Philips DVD+R worked.
    Happy Hunting.

  • Issue X200s and ultrabase : sounds beep in sleeping mode

    hello all,
My problem consist in desactivation of beep sounds when i plug my computer Lenovo X200s in docking station after sleep mode. description of problem :
-My computer is plugged in docking station,
    -I activate the sleep mode,
    -I undock my computer,
-I dock my computer and push the start button.
At this time, computer beep very strongly and the only one solution is to undock the computer.
I just have this problem with the sleep mode.
If i do the same with a lenovo T400, i don't have the problem. Anyone have an idea to stop this beep (i'm sure that is a security but we prefer no sound rather than this one!! ;-)
For your information, I already check windows power settings and lenovo power setting but I dind't find anything!!
    Best regards;-)

the option to enable/disable power-status-change beeps is in the BIOS of the X200... somewhere.
press the Thinkvantage button at startup when the screen says it is suitable to do so, and then follow the on-screen instructions to access the BIOS.
if you have configured a BIOS password, you may need to enter it.
i am currently insufficiently motivated to shut down my X200 to look for the options menu location. if you need help, please ask and then i'll look for it.

  • X200: hiss when headphones are plugged to the Ultrabase

    Hi,
I don't have a hiss if I plug the headphones in the X200 audio out jack, but have one the the Ultrabase audio out plug. I found it's somehow linked to CPU activity: it only happens when the CPU is at full speed, i.e. if I choose a power scheme that has a dynamic usage of the CPU, I don't hear the hiss, until the CPU needs more power.
Does this happen to others? Is it how the Ultrabase is designed? I find it's a bit of an expensive piece of hardware. I was already surprised it does not come with a dedicated power adaptor, now, I'd like it as a dock, even for audio.. Hope someone can point to any driver download or whatever would help this..
    Kind regards,
    amo

    Hi amo and svott,
I'm having the same problem here on my X200 with Ultrabase under Windows 7 as well as under Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. On Windows 7 I had to install the official audio drivers in order to get sound work via Ultrabase. When I use the Thinkpads Audio Out the problem is gone. However I didn't buy the Ultrabase to have cables attached to the Thinkpad directly.
I wonder if it is a problem that rare that it is being ignored? I found one more thread in a different forum that also has been closed by now. They also could link the hiss with the CPU load.

  • X200S + Ultrabase and Ultrabattery not visible in VIsta

    Hello,
Just got my new X200S and ultrabase with DVD burner and Ultrabattery.
When the Laptop is in the the ultrabse the DVD wroking fine.
When I changing to the ultra battery I do'nt see it in Vista power no second battery.
Even in the power mgt of Lenovo no second battery visible.
Any feed-back ? I need to install specific soft ?
    Thx in advance
    Christian

    Gang,
It can only be done on OSX 10.4.11 were you can format and partition the drive as a Windows BOOT partition. (Partition under the options)
The problem is it was so slow in MAC land that it was not worth the time.
I do not see this option under Lepoard.
Stefan, thanks that looks like a much better way of doing this.
    Thanks
    Gordon

  • X200 - External display is intermittently interrupted (Driver 8.15.10.1855)

    Hi all,
I use Windows 7 and the X200 display driver on the official driver page.
    The version is 8.15.10.1855
I also use a Ultrabase, and connect it to the external LCD through DisplayPort.
Sometimes the external LCD would start to flicker, then become black for several second,
    and resume automatically.
Does anybody also encounter the same problem?
    Thank you!

I bit the bullet and bought the Displayport to DVI connector. It cost me USD25. I'm now using the DVI port on the Dell U2410. It's been a couple of hours (fingers and toes still crossed) and no flicker so far, so I think it's a Displayport issue.
If this works, then I would attribute it to the implementation of Displayport on the X200 and Ultrabase because when I connect using the Displayport connector from my desktop to the same monitor, there are no problems whatsoever.

  • X200 Display Port Issue

    Hi,
I am new here - so I hope this is the right place to ask.
I own a Thinkpad X200 with Ultrabase, running WIN7 with a Intel Based Graphics Accelerator ... I am pretty happy with it beside one issue. Since a while I have 2 Monitors connected  - one VGA and one on a Displayport. Both work correctly when I boot in the Ultrabase.
Problem beginns, when I pull it out of the Ultrabase, and try to connect to Projector ... It seems like the X200 still is the opinion, that the Monitor on the displayport is still conected and it will not connect to the projector like I want it to. Other issue is, if I Bood outside the ultrabase, I have to disconecct the Display Port adapter pyhsicaly to get the both monitors working... I tried it with several adapter --- Original IBM and others - no difference. What do I do wrong? Googeling the issue did not bring anything up.
Thanks in advance for your help and patience.
    Kai

Try resetting the SMC, followed by a PRAM & NVRAN reset.
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    About NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.

  • Ultrabase Suddenly Non-Functioning; Strange Lighted Dock Indicators

X200 w/ Ultrabase on Win7. Worked fine this morning. Disconnected x200 from docking station properly this morning and hibernated, as usual. Returned, dropped x200 into docking station:
    Not Working:
     - external mouse
     - external keyboard
     - docking station speakers
AND - on the left side of the docking station, where the un-dock lever is, all three lights are lit: green arrow left of undock button, green arrow right of undock button and red stop indicator right of undock button.
I've performed a variety of reset functions: restarted, shutdown, unplugged keyboard/mouse [they work when plugged directly into x200] - all to no avail.
I've just seen that a BIOS upate came out in December 2010, so I'm off to upgrade that, but really can't see that it would cause this freakout. HELP!
    UPDATE 1:
Updated BIOS [3.17] - no change.
    Further details:
-apparently the docking station is simply not supplying power to the ports since
    --no lights on keyboard
    --cd drive not functioning
    UPDATE 2:
Apparently it is a power issue. Passthrough ports [monitor] work fine, but those requiring power do not. I removed the battery from the X200 then docked to ultrabase - booted up and all peripherals work. What causes such a problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

After booting up w/o the battery in the X200, I shutdown. Then slipped the battery back into the X200, started up and all is golden. Crazy! Hopefully this does not become a regular occurence - my hair may go white even faster than it is already!

  • X220 ultrabase 3 power adapter/optical drive?

    Hello,
I'm interested in X220 i7 with Ultrabase 3 to replace my old x200 with ultrabase 2. Anyway, I have questions about reusing some of my old stuffs from my x200 ultrabase.
    1. I have my old DVD drive (44C5203 I think) that works perfactly fine. Is it compatible with the new Ultrabase 3? or I need to order a new one.
    2. I also have extra a 65W adapter sitting around. Do I need to get 90W for using with x220 and ultrabase 3 (with optical drive)?
    Thanks,
    Solved!

    1. yes it is compatible as they use the same type of connector interface.
    2. with ultrabase 3 you can use the 65 watt adapter.

  • Ultrabay slim DVD Burner noise

I've got the DVD Drive for the Ultrabay of my X200's Ultrabase. When it is reading from a DVD it is making an incredible noise due to case vibration (if i push it a little bit upwards with my hand the noise ceases). Is there anything I can do and, if I can't, ist this a problem of the ultrabase or the drive?
    Regards,
    Daniel

The noises are due to vibrations, which usually mean the drive is not balanced properly, could something wrong with the disks or the motor mechanism.

  • X200 ultrabase displayport to HDMI

Hello all, I have found numerous entries about this topic, but no definitive answer to my question so I thought I would ask you all.
I have an old x200t (purchased 2008-2009) and to make a long story short the Windows OS license doesn’t work anymore. Consequently for the past 3 years or so the computer became a paperweight. Looking to harvest some functionality out of it I thought about installing ubuntu (or chrome OS... I guess) on the machine and hooking it up to an x200 ultrabase (that I would buy in the future) to display the laptop on an HDTV for the kids (would buy a wireless mouse and keyboard as well). Before I go through all the trouble I had a couple of questions....
    1) Does the displayport on an ultrabase work with a laptop running ubuntu or chrome OS? (I am pretty confident that it works with ubuntu, but don't know about chrome. I am considering chrome because kids would primarily be using it and chrome seems like a better fit for them)
    2) It seems like for some transmitting audio over a displayport to an hdmi port was an issue, but for others this was not an issue. I am curious if the hardware caused the problem or if this problem was fixed with updated drivers. If it was fixed with a driver, would the driver work on an ubuntu or chrome OS? If it was a hardware issue, is there another solution to the problem besides plugging an aux cord from the computer to the tv. I briefly looked and I didn't see an adapter that would convert a displayport and an aux input to an HDMI output. Many thanks.

    Try this:
Applications>Utilities> Audio MIDI setup > Right click your TV/HDMI output > Select as output device *****If this option is not available*********> Click the Gear icon at the bottom left > Choose Create Multi-Output Device > Make the HDMI your Output source > After creation it will show on your list of outputs--Right click your multi-output device and choose as the output.
Voila your TV is now pushing sound....

  • X200 hangs during restart or shut down when connected to ultrabase

My X200 hangs during a Windows restart or shut down when I'm connected to my ultrabase.  The laptop appears to go through most of the processes to restart/shut down but eventually hangs at a blue screen with unmoveable cursor (note, not a Windows BSOD). I'm forced to perform a hard shut down to turn off the laptop.
This hang at restart/shut down only occurs when I'm connected to the ultrabase.

Just as a thing to try, and this is assuming that you all have an integrated camera, please try this camera driver and let the board know the results:

  • X200s + Ultrabase (DisplayPort) to connect to Apples' LED Cinema Display (mini DisplayPort)?

I'm considering purchasing Apple's LED Cinema Display which has only one connection, mini DisplayPort. I have an X200s and the Ultrabase with the DisplayPort.
Has anyone got this combination working?
Getting a mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort connection isn't easy from what I can tell but I've spoken to Circuit Assembly and they have a product that will provide the necessary connection (http://estore.circuitassembly.com/products/Mini-Displayport-Female-to-Displayport-Male-Adapter-Cable...) but can't be sure it will work as they don't have Apple's display on hand.
Any information on whether anyone has had this or a similar setup working would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • X201 + X200 UltraBase + DisplayPort = 30" support

Does the X201 + X200 UltraBase + DisplayPort combo make it possible for me to drive a 30" monitor at 2560x1600? I've only seen specs that say maximum 1920x1200 or 2048xsomething.
    Thanks.

yes if you use the DP as it is, or an active DP to DVI converter (like the Dell's one). Passive DP to DVI converter can only support up to WUXGA resolution, which is generally found in 24 inch LCD.
The WQXGA resolution in the 30 inch LCD, needs either the DP or the Dual Link DVI.

  • X200 standby problem without ultrabase

I have a refurb X200 and just the basic software so far Win XP Pro 32bit. I updated power manager and drivers and patch from the Lenovo site. When I first put it into standby either by closing the lid, Fn F4 or the start menu it goes into standby in about 3 secs. and recovers in the same time when asked to. On the second and subsequent times I try to use standby (after a reboot) it takes about 16mins to reach standby - in the meantime it shows a screen with "preparing for standby" and the system is inaccessible.  When it finally goes into standby it can be recovered in the normal 2-3 secs. The only way to gain control while it is going into standby is a hard shut down. Following this I again have one normal standby operation. I note people having standby problems with the ultrabase but I haven't tried this yet.

I would like to share with you that it might be because of software issue.
To diagnose, I would suggest you to please update the Power Manager software and also update the Bios of your notebook from the below mentioned web link.
    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/default.page
After this, please restart the notebook and check if the issue resolved.
