X200 Tablet Fingerprint Scanner: superb Win 7 OOB Performance

I know some within this community are quite attached to their thinkpad utilities.  I, however, am not.  I'd prefer solid Out Of the Box OS support instead.  For those who feel as I do, I'm happy to announce that the Win 7 driver from AuthenTec is solid and in my eyes, a very elegant alternative to the ThinkVantage utility.  As you may know, Win 7 was designed to support biometrics OOB.
Cheers

Can you download something like InSSIDer and check the wifi profile using that software?

  • Fingerprint scanner on Win 7 64-bit slows machine

Brand New Tecra R840. Running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. Any ideas on how to make the fingerprint utility more responsive. There is a 3-10 second lag when trying to log in , or unlock the computer. It scans just fine, but the time between the computer accepting the scan and giving me the green check mark, and the computer unlocking is painfully slow.

There are two different versions of Flash, the '''''ActiveX''''' version for IE and the '''Plugin''' version used by most other browsers.
1.Download the Flash Plugin version setup file from here: <br />
    [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version]. <br />
Save it to your Desktop.<br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed, <br />
    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    4. Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). <br />

  • Fingerprint scanner issue with Win 7 and Satellite Pro A300

    SORRY MODEL IS A300.
Upgraded/overlayed Vista to Windows 7 Professional and have found fingerprint scanner not working.
Unable to remove program and wont accept fresh install of fingerprint scanner or even new fingerprint to be scanned. (Old Vista program working in background somehwere?)
Is the fingerprint scanner which was installed under Vista now not compatible with WIndows 7.
There seems to be no upgrades or downloads for Fingerprint Drivers for Windows 7 as yet.
    Message was edited by: lasdec1

    Hi mate
To be honest I doubt that Win 7 drivers would be published for this oldie.
I mean the Satellite Pro A30 is a older series and even Vista drivers were not published for this model row
I searched on the Toshiba European driver page but I found only the W2k, Win XP drivers for this unit
So if you want to use Win 7 on this notebook, then you need to collect the drivers at your own hand and this would be the same with the fingerprint reader. Maybe the driver designed and released for other series would work.
It looks like Toshiba is in progress of driver release for different series you could take a look to the different series and could try the drivers.

  • Thinkpad T61 fingerprint scanner not working..

I downloaded  drivers for fingerprint scanner ,Am using win 7(32 bit)Its option is available in bios security settings..
but when i enter to operating system and software starts ,I swipe my finger to enroll fingerprint it doesn't work..it says bad quality etc.it shows 0% when i swipe my finger.does any one have suggestions?

I've found it works quite well, but you do have to align your finger in the same position each swipe. What I do is register the same fingers multiple times but from different angles that way it will recognise the finger from different angles. If you can't even get the registration to complete, then you could have a problem. Try swiping slowly and carefully the same way and make sure your finger firmly contacts the clear part of the scanner for the whole swipe. It's easy to skim over it and not make contact since the sensor is recessed in the palmrest.
If it still doesn't work I'd recommend trying a known good sensor. I have some I could send you, but you'd probably be better getting one in your area, but if you can't find one let me know and I'll see about sending you one.

  • High performance SSD for my X200 Tablet

    Hi,
I have the X200 Tablet 7450 ERG. Preinstalled in the computer is a Samsung SSD 64GB disk - but I have found no information about the form factor of the disk, and I am uncertain about what disk to get as replacement due to that (so it fits perfectly inside the machine). Just after installing the nessecarily programs and functions I use, and having a minimum of storage place for the most recent files I work on - I am left with 5-7GB of storage...
What disk can I get to increase the storage AND performance of my machine. If battery time is a little shorter, I don't care, and price don't scare me too much either.
Technical performance (as high as possible speed under all conditions without lag) and 128GB+ storage is a requirement.
Looking forward to get your recommendations!

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I was in your exact situation.  I liked having an SSD, but found the small size to be rather painful.  I now have an OCZ Vertex 120GB SSD installed in my X200 Tablet.  I also have Intel SSDs in my desktops.  I know there is a 250GB OCZ, and a 160GB Intel.  Both are very, very fast, and both can be installed in the X200T.  An advantage that the latest OCZ Vertex and Intel drives have is that they have TRIM support, which helps mitigate the performance degradation issue you see in SSDs, at least under Windows 7.
Both were easy to install, although the OCZ needed a firmware update.  The X200T did not play nice with the firmware update software, and I had to drop it into my desktop to do that.
The only problem with replacing the Samsung SSD, at least the one I received, is that it's a 1.8" disk, with the appropriate mounting bracket.  Why Lenovo chose that form factor is beyond me, because the drive bay can fit a 2.5".  I was not able to find a suitable drive bracket for a 2.5" disk on Lenovo's site, but I found one relatively easily on EBay, and I assume if you call Lenovo you can order the correct part over the phone.  While I was waiting for the it to arrive, I made do with a folded piece of paper wedged in under the drive to hold it in place.  Sad, i know, but I couldn't wait, and it worked.
If you don't want to deal with the drive bracket, Intel also makes 1.8" versions of their SSDs, which as far as I know perform just like their 2.5" equivalents.  They are a bit hard to find, though.

  • Sometimes when I unlock my 5s using the fingerprint scanner it takes a blank picture!

I'm a bit puzzled by this one, but one occassioin when I'm using the fingerprint scanner to perform an unlock from the phone being asleep, it will snap a picture of the black screen and save it in the photos.  I hear the shutter sound and that's how I know it has occured.  Very randomly, but I do notice that when it does happen, it seems like it's when I hold the button down (as if I was going to call up Siri) a bit longer, but not long enough to bring Siri to my attention.  It's hard to reproduce the problem on command, but it's something that will happen at least once a day.
    Anyone else have this happen?

Seriously?!! Nobody elese is having this problem?!! I must have a defective phone!  It does this about half the time I use the fingerprint scanner to perform a wake from sleep/unlock!

  • Envy 15 AMD A10 USB ports and fingerprint scanner not working

    Hi
I've had my HP envy 15 about 2 months now and today all the USB ports as well as the fingerprint scanner stopped working. In the device manager I have 6 entries under the USB headding, all have yellow triangles next to them, all display an error code 19 in the properties.
I have tried uninstalling the devices in device manager and then performing a hard reset. I've attempted to locate the usb 3.0 host controlers for my laptop, but I've had no joy and I've tried running both the Microsoft and HP update facalities to try and force a driver update but so far nothing.
Somebody please help because I'm banging my head against the wall at this point.

    Hello, @LeapM
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you cannot use any USB ports or the fingerprint scanner. That you have error code 19. I will try to assist you with this.
Here is a Microsoft document that may help you: Error codes in Device Manager in Windows. It will explain what the error code is and provide steps to try and resolve.
Let me know how this goes for you.

  • HP Pavilion dm4 3050us Entertainment Notebook Fingerprint scanner

Alright, so I just got my HP Pavilion dm4 3050us (Running Windows 7-Home Premium) a few days ago, and ever since I've been trying to figure out this fingerprint scanner. I just CANNOT figure out how to work it, or even open/start/launch it at all. It's like my notebook doesn't even know that it was freaking built into the dang thing. I've opened the biometric devices section of the Hadrware and Sound section of the control pannel, and it comes up saying "Windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer. You might need to attach your device or install device drivers." I also tried opening the device manager and there wasn't even a section specified to biometric devices. I've updated the BIOS to the 2012-02-17, version F.08, 4.75M, and I installed the device driver for the fingerprint scanner that is compatible with my notebook (AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor Driver, 2011-10-28, Version 3.2.1.10, 6.83M). I just don't get how my notebook can't detect something that is freaking BUILT INTO it . . . I have no clue what else to do.
    Please help!

  • X205 Win7 Pro Can't see fingerprint scanner

I'm using my X205 with one HDU on vista (ICK, but ok for now till I buy 64 bit win 7) and one on WIN7 Pro 32 bit.  The vista side sees and uses the finger scanner o.k., but the WIN7 side (although the driver appears there) doesn't see the fingerprint scanner.  Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mike

Ask on the PS forum. Yes, it has in part to do with 32bit vs. 64bit, but just as much as your vendor's driver compatibility on a more generic level.

  • Help! Thinkpad X60 fingerprint scanner problem! deleted fingerprints

Right, basically what happened is that i was logged into my account one day and i wanted to stop using the fingerprint scanner to log in. So i deleted my fingerprints unbeknown to me that doing so does not deactivate the fingerprint software therefore i am stuck at the log-in screen that says please swipe your finger. One mroe thing, it will not let me use my windows password because i did not delete the password for the fingerprint scanner i just removed the prints. Any help would be appreciated
    Alex

    Hi Alex,
Try clicking on the username. See if that brings up the option for the password.
If that doesn't work, go into the bios, (F2 at the splash screen) and  click Security.  Click Fingerprint and disable the Predesktop Authentication.  See if you're able to logon then.
If you still can't logon, reboot and at the splash screen press F8 and that should put you in safe mode.  See if you can log in then.  On my X60t the fingerprint reader is disabled in safe mode.  You might be able to go into the fingerprint software and turn off the fingerprint reader.  Whatever you do, don't try to uninstall it.  It won't totally uninstall that easy.
If none of this works, reboot and press F8 again.  You could try a system restore from the screen that comes up. That's if you have a restore point back before the prints got deleted.
Good luck, let me know how you make out.

  • T400 Fingerprint scanner is non-functional+R&R question

I was hoping to hear from anyone else with a similar configured T400 that has done a clean Win 7 Professional installation.
Have you had any issues installing and using Fingerprint reader software?
Have you had any issues installing Rescue & Recovery 4.3?
I'm having no luck installing R&R, and the Fingerprint scanner is non-functional.

I have a T410, not a T400, so I don't know if you have some difference in hardware causing the problem.  I assume your T400 has a UPEK fingerprint reader, like mine, not an Authentec reader?  You can verify this in Device Manager.  My UPEK reader is using the WBF driver, version 1.3.0.214.  I am also using the Lenovo fingerprint software, V 5.9.2.5912.  The older version(s) were not compatible with Win 7.  I'd suggest uninstalling everything, then reinstall the versions I have, thus ensuring you have the latest.  I am unclear why the previous posts discussed NOT using WBF.  Yes, I recall a problem with WBF back in the Win 7 beta days, but it works as designed now, and the non-WBF driver did NOT work for me on Win 7.  So, if you do not have the WBF driver installed, UNinstall the reader from device manager, including telling it to remove the driver software, then install the correct WBF driver.  I have R&R version 4.30, and everything works as designed.

  • X200 Tablet - Wacom Pen Blue Screen of Death on Windows 7

Hello...hopefully someone can help & point me in the right direction...I have a Lenovo x200 tablet PC (Stylus Only Version) - and recently installed Windows 7 Professional (64bit)
The OS install went perfectly...Once installed, I did all the Systems Updates for Windows 7, including all the updates for Lenovo using System Update 4.01.....However, I have an issue that I cannot seem to figure out...
    PROBLEM # 1
The biggest issue I now face is, whenever I put the Digitized Pen next to the Tablet Screen within 2 seconds I get the 'Blue Screen of Death'....and it automatically Reboots....This ONLY happens when I touch the Pen to the screen....
I uninstalled the 'Wacom Drivers' - within the Device Manager, which i assume were installed by the system update(s)....After, uninstalling the issue of the 'Blue Screen' from happening when the pen touches the screen is gone.....However, I have no way of being able to use the Pen...it does not show any cursor or inking....Is there a specific DRIVER that I should be installing on my own to make this work properly - without getting the 'Blue Screen of Death' each time?....I really need some guidance on this issue.
    PROBLEM # 2
My Second issue, which is suddenly occured after day 2 of installing updates is the Lenovo System Update 4.01 -- Suddenly, after working on day 1 - now, whenever i try to 'Check New Updates' i get a popup that says "An error was detected with the Package catalog for your system on the System Update Server. Please contact the Support Center".
I called techical support on the phone - and they made it seem like this was not their problem and they could not help me...The odd thing is, that this was working before, and now all of sudden it doesnt work...
If someone can please advise me on what to do, especially with the Pen Driver problem, I would greatly appreciate it....Thanks!

    **FIXED IT** TWICE!
I've been messing with this on multiple machines at my school.
I was getting the BSOD, "no tablet installed" all that good stuff.
I installed this, that and the other thing.
After testing another machine, I read something in the BSOD that caught my attention.
It mentions resetting the cache of the BIOS. I wasn't sure what that meant, or how to do it.
But I was able to get into the BIOS (F1 on the Lenovo splash screen) and I just tapped F9 (load default Bios options -paraphrasing) Then I hit ESC- it prompts to save the settings, agree and let the computer continue to boot.
I was able to test the Pen at the login screen. Just repeated this process on another X200 computer and it worked again.
    Try it.
    Good luck!

  • If you rub the edge of the fingerprint scanner in a circle, why does the screen drop down?

MY daughter was drawing circles around the metal part of the fingerprint scanner and noticed the screen contents moves to the bottom of the screen instead of the top. Then it goes back to the top when touched again. Why does it do this?

That is a feature of the 6 & 6 plus.  I believe it is called reachability.  It moves the furthest section of the screen down to allow for one handed use.

  • Fingerprint Scanner no longer working in Windows 10

Hi, I just updated from Windows 7 to the Windows 10 technical preview (10130).  The fingerprint scanner on my laptop no longer works. In Windows 7 when I used it with LastPass, it worked well. Now, it does not seem to register a swipe. I tried to grab the latest drivers from the HP support site, but that did not seem to solve the issue.  Product number: A3E82AV Thanks.

Hi , I understand that you are having some troubles with the fingerprint reader on your system, after installing the Windows 10 tech preview. You may want to try updating to the current build which is 10162. Each update tends to have a series of fixes and new features, ( and sometimes a few more issues). Currently the only drivers for Windows 10 tech preview, are a part of the operating system. Also please read the following post Welcome to the HP Windows® 10 Technical Preview discussion board. by . It includes general information about the Tech Preview as well as links to the various Microsoft pages for preview. Also if you wish to get the free upgrade to the release version of Windows 10, when it comes out, you will probably want to go back to your original factory operating system, to qualify for it. I hope this helps.

  • The Fingerprint scanner doesn't work on my HP ProBook 6455b

When I got the laptop, it had Windows 7 on it and the hardware was customized so the laptop has  2.8gHz CPU and modified GPU and that's it. It came with the fingerprint scanner, but never worked and I never tried to set it up. Now, I upgarded to Windows 8, and now 8.1 Preview.

Now, I installed HP Simplepass, but nothing happens and when I attemp to enter my Windows password, it says "invalid". I checke Device Manager and it says under Biometric Scanner, Validity Scanner, and updated it.

    Hi,
See if you can access the notebook in Safe Mode as follows.
Shut down the notebook. Tap away at f8 as you start the notebook to enter Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit enter.
If you can access your Admin account in this mode, click the Start Menu, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools and launch System Restore.  Pick a restore point before the SimplePass update and then proceed with the restore process.  When complete, Windows will reboot as normal.  See if your original password/finger scan now works.
    Hope it works..
