X200 Ultrabase - charging second battery.

I checked the specifications for X200 Ultrabase and it says there that it has an option to charge second battery. Can you charge the battery while the laptop is not in Ultrabase? My X3 Ultrabase couldn't do that... Also, can it charge batteries of all sizes (3, 6 and 9-cell)?
Thanks in advance for replies.

OK after some severe searching, I found it. There IS a second battery charging feature on the X200 UltraBase!
Thank goodness for Lenovo Service and Support Training!
There's no information about this neat new second battery charging feature in the Lenovo online store. No information on the Lenovo Service and Support website either! It's not even mentioned in the X200 Ultrabase User Guide!
But the training guys nailed it.
Go to http://www.lenovoservicetraining.com/ion/ and navigate to Notebooks > ThinkPad > X200 > Videos. A video popup window will open. Go to the X200 UltraBase videos and watch them. You'll see the second battery charging port in action!
The X200 UltraBase Locations video shows the second battery charging connector.
The X200 Insertion and Removal videos shows a second battery being connected and disconnected.
So my earlier post was WRONG. I should have been harshing on Lenovo for hiding a great new feature!
I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

  • Helix's second battery isn't detected except at 0% charge

I have a Helix (i7 8GB model); I bought it with Windows 8 standard but I've run a clean install of Windows 8 Pro on it with an existing license. I've installed all of the current drivers and have run the Lenovo update tool to ensure everything is at the most current version.  I've also installed the latest firmware update for the dock.
The main problem I have is that the second battery (in the keyboard) does not appear in the Windows power popup - I only see the tablet battery. The exception to this is if I discharge the battery entirely, and it appears in the popup as "0% - charging" but will then disappear a few moments later.  I also only see a single battery in the "power" section of the Lenovo Settings app.
I've tried various combinations of uninstalling and reinstalling drivers as suggested by other posts on this forum, and I've pressed the reset button on both keyboard and tablet portions in various combinations (plugged and unplugged) too. Nothing has worked - the battery only shows when at 0%.
It also seems that my Helix doesn't charge *either* battery when shut down - it will only charge when in standby or when turned on.
Finally, I've also seen the issue (reported by others) that the Helix seems to completely discharge the keyboard battery before running down the tablet battery. This means that a couple of times I've been left with +80% charge in the tablet battery, but a non-working keyboard.
My guess is that this could be a software-related issue, since the battery doesn't appear correctly in Windows (I only have a single battery listed in device manager, too) - but I don't know what driver(s) I should (un)install to resolve it and nothing else I've found on the forum has worked.
Beyond the power issues I'm very pleased with the device, but if I can't use it reliably when away from a power supply then it's really not fit for use - can someone help save me from having to return it?

    A further update:
    - Last night my Helix was left on charge - when I started it this morning it said the battery level (in the single registered battery) was 100%.
    - I disconnected it from the mains and used it for a few moments (maybe 5 minutes), then closed the lid to put it on standby.
    - 3 hours' later, I resumed from standby to find that the 2nd (keyboard) battery had drained completely (it was showing in the power manager at 0%). The keyboard still worked at this point.
    - On trying to reboot (on battery power), I found that the helix would not reboot with the keyboard connected. The fans would spin up, but nothing would display on the screen
    - By holding the power button down for 4 seconds I could shut the device down again, but it would only start up if the keyboard was disconnected. If I connected the keyboard once booted, the keyboard did not function.
I've now plugged everything back in to the mains, but I can still only start my Helix with the keyboard disconnected. Presumably a long charge period will rectify this, but I would hope that I can get more than 3 hours' standby time out of the device!

  • X200S + Ultrabase and Ultrabattery not visible in VIsta

    Hello,
Just got my new X200S and ultrabase with DVD burner and Ultrabattery.
When the Laptop is in the the ultrabse the DVD wroking fine.
When I changing to the ultra battery I do'nt see it in Vista power no second battery.
Even in the power mgt of Lenovo no second battery visible.
Any feed-back ? I need to install specific soft ?
    Thx in advance
    Christian

    Gang,
It can only be done on OSX 10.4.11 were you can format and partition the drive as a Windows BOOT partition. (Partition under the options)
The problem is it was so slow in MAC land that it was not worth the time.
I do not see this option under Lepoard.
Stefan, thanks that looks like a much better way of doing this.
    Thanks

  • Communication Problem with the second battery

    Hello,
In Lenovo Solution Center it says that there is communiction problem with the second battery. I already had this problem some months ago, back then it didn't charge the second battery. I got a new one and it worked again. Now it says the same thing "communication problem", but i can charge the battery and I also can't find any other sign of something not working. But still- it seems weird that the program tells me something is wrong. Can somebody help me?
    Thanks Lina

    Hi, Lina
What is the machine type and model of your computer? Also, what operating system are you running?
    Thanks in advance,

  • 6500 slide !!charging the battery!!

i didnt charged the battery for 16 hours...is this a problem ??In my guide book doesnt say how much hours i have to charge.. my mobile..!!i charged it 7 hours maybe 8 for the first time...and then i played all the time.. games.. and my phone was left out of energy...is it normal?maybe can i demand a second battery if i see that the battery dont last long...!!!???plz someone answer.can anyone tell me...with 100% that i make a **bleep** ?or its doesnt matters that i charged my phone for 8 hours...i have olny charged once..maybe.. if i leave.. a lit bit more next time.. the things will fix ?

li-ion batteries don't like being over charged or completely discharged. although the phone will stop charging after a the battery is full and the phone can be left hooked with no problems, i advice to unhook the phone after it finishes charging and the charger also " live green my friend ".this will prolong the battery life.

  • Second battery - DEAD

This is the second battery that I have had in less than three monhts as a new Mac user (Powerbook G4). This second battery problem, though, is slightly different. It will take a charge. However, it's life has gone to nil.
Just now, I charged it up for a while, it shows 100% full, and when I switch to "time", it shows I have only 17 minutes left.
Just a few days ago, it was showing full with a couple of hours to go, but then it would drain when the computer was OFF! It was not holding a charge when it was not in action. I thought that maybe it was because I had the computer in sleep mode and it was draining due to that.
I have no idea how to perform more detailed checks on the battery. Apple has already replaced one battery for me, wondering if I am going to get a second dud.
Also, I have been on an airplane a couple of times with the computer, wondering if that has anything to do with the loss of power, and I have also been in foreign countries where the power is slightly different, but I used adapters.
This really *****, can anyone help???
    Walter

My first PB had the same problem. Within 2 months of buying it, the battery was acting very flaky and the charge life was ridiculous. Apple twice sent me a new battery to no avail (same problems happened within a few weeks). I contacted Apple yet again and they said they'd send me a new battery. I said "okay, but it's not going to do any good." Well, turned out that it did work.
The one thing I did differently with that last battery was to do a clean install. With the old battery in, I put in the install disc, plugged in the adapter, shut down, replaced the battery, powered up holding down the C key and did the clean install. Could it have been a software issue or was that coincidence? I'll never know. They never advised me to do that, so I was just trying it hoping it would improve the chances of the new battery working.
Maybe I had gotten 3 defective batteries in a row or maybe it was a software issue all along. Apple didn't know. All I know is that battery finally worked properly. So I'd suggest calling Apple (I'm assuming you're still under warranty) to get a replacement battery (they should replace it in this type of situation). And when you get it, do the clean install as I decribed. It certainly can't hurt.

  • Second battery does not report status correct - probably BIOS bug

    Hi,
I have a T61 laptop and recently bought a second battery (for the CD drive slot).
The problem is, the status of the second battery is not properly reported. Sometimes it doesn't show the status (charging, discharging etc.), sometimes even not the capacity. This is a problem, as this can cause my laptop to shut down when one battery is running out of power, while the other is still full.
This happens both in windows and linux. You can see some more details here:
    https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17832
I'm pretty sure that this is a bug in the BIOS. Is there any way I can contact the people who are working on the BIOS? I tried to use the web support form to get in contact, but the support told me to contact the nearest service center - not very helpful.

On its home page http://www.ngolde.de/yacpi.html is a mention that there may possibly problems with battery status. You should probably try to contact the developer.

  • Another lenovo (W530) doesn't charge a battery

    Hi folks!
I was a happy owner of brand new W530 machine untill I mentioned that it doesn't charge the battery.
The machine came to me with 94% charged batt and since then it got to 4% mark.
    Symptoms:
-Lenovo Power Manager detects the batt, says it's good and charging, doesn't estimate how long it would get to charge it.
-Windows power manager says "Pluged in, charging"
-W530 worked perfectly on the batt, I made it to drain the battery by unplugging power cord and running "heavy" applications.
-The battery indicator on top cover is flashing orange once per second.
-AC Power source outputs 20.5V, BIOS v.1.08, Lenovo software of the most current versions.
    What I've tried:
-Uninstalling and reinstalling Lenovo Power Manager.
    -Enabling/Disabling/Uninstalling "Microsoft ACPI - blah-blah"
-Unplugging power cord and battery, pressing power button for 40 seconds and assebmling all together.
    Any working ideas are wellcome.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

What have happened since my last post:
Note: Lenovo power manager used to estimate power consumption 60-70W even if W530 in idle state. I thought it's ok, w530 is a powerful machine with 170W AC adapter.
Lenovo was charging the battery very  slow (estimated 14 hours to full from 40%), with stops.
I was looking through this forum and desided to check if I have CUDA enabled. I launched GPU-Z and found out that K2000M was suspened. Then device manager showed me troubles with K2000M. I reinstalled it with fresh drivers and rebooted. Despite K2000M was functioning since then, power consumtion is floating between 28-33W (almost idle state) and the battery is being charged like it should (1% per 2-3min).
Now I may confirm that my lenovo works fine.
BTW It's still about 0.35V between first and last battery contacts. Looks like w530 doesn't output charging current if it doesn't detect any battery.
    PS Still no CUDA support

  • T400 battery light blinking orange. Senses second battery error with NO second battery present.

I am using T400 laptop,  problem is battery indicator light is blinking orange even though my main battery is well charged. Power manager indicates Battery 1 is fine but it is also showing Battery 2: Error detected. Power manager says main battery condition as good and second battery condition as error? Any Ideas? There is NO secondary battery in the laptop.

2-3 years is a normal lifespan for a lithium-ion battery. The blinking orange light means that capacity is low, which makes sense for a battery at the end of its life. Although you're getting contradictory indications from the Power Manager, I suggest trying a new battery.

  • Thinkpad Yoga S1 Runs off AC but won't charge the battery

I have recently purchased an S1, which is now having an issue that I can't seem to resolve on my own. The laptop works (almost) perfectly on A/C, but doesn't charge the battery. I noticed yesterday the battery was low (which was surprising, because I had only recently unplugged it) - so I plugged it in to charge. At which point, the battery icon in the system tray stated "8% (plugged in, not charging).I've tried the following to fix this: 1) Leaving it plugged in overnight completely off. 2) Running the battery calibration (fails w/ unexpected error). 3) Tried turning off battery optimization (Option is removed in newer version of drivers, so NA to my issue). 4) Tried reinstalling the power management drivers anyway (even though I already had the newer version). 5) Holding down the power button for 30 seconds, both plugged in and not plugged in (suggestion from forum). 6) Holding down the reset button (pin reset on the mobo) for 30 seconds, both plugged in and not plugged in. 7) Charging from BIOS. 8) Letting the battery run down to 0% in BIOS, then rebooting on A/C (another forum suggestion).  Now I'm just at 0% plugged in and not charging. Previously I said the computer almost worked perfectly, the almost is that the CPU is stuck at ~800mhz, even with all power management turned off (including Speedstep in BIOS) and the power profile set to high performance. Can anyone think of anything else I can try before I give up and send this thing back? It was working perfectly for the last couple of weeks or so, including getting ~ 4, 5 hours of battery life, so unless the battery failed very suddenly I can't imagine why it would just start refusing to charge.

well I replaced the battery with another one I bought (exact same model for the battery SONY 45N1705, I was hoping I would get another battery version because I notice there is an update for the other battery revision that fixes issues with battery stopped charging. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds001322. I forced the bios update from 1.07 to latest 1.24 using olydbg to skip the battery check. this did not help with anything relating to the battery. now I am stuck again where I was at the beginning..... im looking at buying a board replacement.... also I was looking at replacing the power supply but I check the voltage and the amps, and it is correctly matching what is written on the back of the laptop. still getting the 0% plugged in and charging.

  • Buying a Second Battery–Apple or OEM?

Has anyone bought a second battery for their 12"? I'd like to buy a back-up one for plane use, and just as a general back-up battery. I see a bunch on eBay called "OEM" batteries for around $30–$50 and i'm wondering if they're really OK to use in the machine or not? Safe? Do they perform better or worse?
Please let me know if you have any experience with them, or even if you've bought from eBay let me know which user and if they were good to deal with! Thanks so much in advance

    Hi DC
I have some questions that sort of relate to your topic so I hope you don't mind if I piggyback on your post.
    30 to 50 dollars seems a great price .
As I recall the Apple batteries are around $130
I shopped around and got one from Priority Electronics for $100 .
They offer a 1 year warranty and have phone support.
I am considering returning it because I think it may be weak .
I would appreciate some comments regarding these numbers .
It was recommended that I run the battery down at least 5 times to achieve the maximum Full Charge Capacity (FCC)
The battery was holding an FCC of over 4000 (mAh) at around 12 cycles and at 28 it's FCC was down to 3411 . Now at 33 cycles its FCC is 3916 I have read that the Full Charge Capacity (FCC) on a new battery for a 12'PB should be around 4500(mAh) .

  • A secondary battery was not detected, but your system supports a second battery.

    Hi,
I have read this while testing my battery with HP tools dignostics:
Secondary Battery: a battery was not detected, but your system supports a second battery. You may want to purchase a second battery to extend your battery life between charges
What is meant with your system supports a second battery?
I think this 'your system supports a second battery' should have been said if my computer supported  two batteries insereted  simulataneously.
However, if this 'your system supports a second battery.' only means if the first battery got to its critical level, then I could shut down my computer, and then replace it with the second one which is fully charged.
As a result, I would be saying that my system supports a second battery, a third, fourth, fifth, and so on.  I don't need to say my system supports a second battery.

    Thanks a lot,
Then, for my laptop which only supports to insert on battery at the same time.  Then as long as the secondray battery will not be inserted along with the primary battery at the same time, then my system and my computer don't support secondary battery. However, they support only one battery inserted. As a result,   They wouldn't have said(written) a tip says during the battery testing   'secondary battery was not deteced, but your system supports a second battery.'
that they should have written system supports a second battery, a third, fourth, fifth, and so on which can be inserted instead of your inserted empty primary battery.
I really don't find any a docking station port on the bottom of my laptop. Do you think that there are some HP models can support two batteries to be inserted at the same time?

  • X200s Ultrabase and USB ports

    Hello,
I'm using an ultrabase with a X200s. It worked perfectly but since this morning USB ports are not working anymore.
My X200s is still connected on my ultrabase and I have (connected on the ultrabase) a second screen and my network. Both are still working. But, my mouse and my printer are no more working.
If I connect my mouse directly on the PC it works again (without removing my PC from the ultrabase).
What can I do to get my USB ports working again ?
PS: I tried several times to reboot my PC with no success.
    Sebastien

Hi, I have an Ultrabase with a X201 that has exactly the same issue (no one of the USB ports is working): does someone have an idea how to solve it? BIOS on Laptop is upgraded to the latest available version with default values loaded. Light on the left is indicating "red docked" state (in fact ethernet/headphone are working fine)
    Thanks
    Andrea
