X200 will not stop rebooting at shut down

I have an X200 that will not shut down when the battery is installed.  After hitting shut down, it goes through the normal shut down cycle, but then about 5 seconds later starts back up again.  When operated without the main battery in (ie. on the power cord only)…it will shut down normally.  Here is what I have tried so far, none of which has helped:
I’ve run multiple diagnostic programs and none have identified an issue with the system or the hard drive
The system originally had XP installed so I did a complete wipe and installed Windows 7, but it did not fix it.  I also installed all the available Windows 7 driver updates.
Updated the BIOS, and checked all the bios setting
Replaced the Cmos battery
Replaced the main battery (I am using OEM batteries, tried both a 6 cell and 9 cell)
Turned off the auto reboot setting for when there is a system failure
I did a ton of searches online for this and could not find anything that helped.  Thanks in advance for any insight anyone can provide.

Hmm,
See if there are settings for "wake on Lan" functionality in the BIOS.   If so, try to disable them.  Maybe it is detecting some networking activity and starting up?
This is a really odd one.

    Thanks.

I stumbled upon the solution. In addition to downloading Creative Cloud, I needed to go back to the website and  download trials for the programs I want to use--Photoshop and Lightroom. Once I did that, I was in business. Would save trouble if that was made clear on the download site.

  • My MacBook Pro will not allow me to shut down it says it is still importing photos into iPhoto it also will not quit

My MacBook Pro will not allow me to shut down my computer.  Their seems to be a glitch in the iPhotos.  It says it is still importing photos into iPhoto.  It will not allow me to quit either.

You could always hold down the power button to force the MacBook to turn off. This is usually a last resort step though, but if nothing else is working and you are sure it isn't importing photos then you might consider it.

  • My Mac will not turn on easily, shuts down often

    I have a G5 -- Mac OSX 10.3.9, about 4-4.5 years old now.
Some months ago, it began to shut down seemingly for no reason at all. I could only keep it from randomly shutting down by leaving iTunes or something else on, so that some process was being carried out (I believe that the idleness caused something to trigger, though maybe it is just coincidence).
Recently, the computer has been refusing to turn on easily, if at all. I have to push the "on" button sometimes as few as under five times, and sometimes as many as several minutes worth-times for it to finally "click," and turn on. The problem seems to be getting worse (it took me a lot of clicking the "on" button to get it to turn on just now).
Also, it seems that if it was on recently, it is significantly easier to turn it on the nest time.
Any help with what the problem might be and how to repair it would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks.

There's a system management controller - or some such reset button
on or in the computer, it is a second cousin to the Power Management
Unit (PMU) found in G4 machines and somewhat related to the next
version found in the newer Intel Macs.
The chip, by whatever name, contains information essential to the
basics of power management and other stuff, and there are times
where that may be corrupted so resetting it may be helpful.
Depending on what computer model you have, the procedure to
reset the chip will vary. Within a processor series, it will vary...
So, to approach the reset correctly, one would need to know the
exact model and build the computer you have... Or close.
This chip has also been known as a CUDA or PMU, SMU, SMC,
and so on; as such the PowerPC based units often had one
series of power management chip with variants, and the Intel Mac
architecture has something similar yet different.
"Resetting Cuda/PMU on Power Mac G5, Power Mac G4, PM G3:"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1939
If you have an iMac G5, the information would be different.
For Apple Portables, depending on architecture and series...
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) & PMU
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411 (note PPC-PMU inside link)
Generally speaking, information for most Mac power reset chips
is listed here, in this page, with secondary links to information:
Resetting the power management chip in your Mac
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/resetpmchip.html
{And if the hard disk drive is getting overly full, there are issues
and symptoms of sluggishness and irresponsiveness related
    to that situation; you need plenty of free space for OS X to work.}
This may help. Depending on what model G5 you have, it really
could make a difference. At any rate, I'll always think it should've.
    Good luck & happy computing!

I have completely uninstalled FF28.0a1 and reinstalled it into a new folder with a new profile. Still the same problem exists.

No this is NOT an older version of FF.
It is the very latest Nightly version (Ver 28.0a1)
It works fine in Win XP.

  • Late 09 iMac 27 will not boot up then shuts down

Second occurrence of this issue in roughly 2 months:
    1st time: pre-Mavericks
2nd time: after HD reformat and Mavericks install, both at Genius Bar
I get the tone, logo, gear, progress bar to roughly 10%, then shutdown. I cannot even get into safe mode or try disk utility. The various resets (pram, etc...) do not work either
I took it to the genius bar and they reformatted the HD and all was well for a couple of months.  I do not have any 3rd party SW except for iBank, MS Office, and printer drivers.  As with the first time this popped up, I had a couple of warning reboots before this.  I was able to save my large iPhoto file.
So, is this a HW issue? If not what SW problem would cause the same issue again if the HD was reformatted once already?
Debating pitching the iMac and going Mac Mini, all we use the Mac for is finances, email, and iPhoto.
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.
