X200/X300 Hard drive holder/adaptor

Hi, I recently replaced the SSD in the X200 to a normal 2.5" HDD. However, the new HDD does not fit exactly in the holder and leaves some room to wiggle. Is there a Lenovo harddrive holder or adaptor that would stabilize the HDD inside the bay? The old SSD had a 1.8" to 2.5" adaptor that secured it in place. I need something similar for this 2.5" HDD.
Thanks!

I'm not an X200 user, but it sounds like you need a 2.5" drive caddy for your hard drive.
Here is one place you can get a suitable caddy...  http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=36
Lenovo should also be able to supply them, but I don't have the Lenovo part number handy.

The X300 uses 1.8inch HDD, the rails will not be able to hold the smaller drive if it's able to hold T500's 2.5'' drive. Also, X3xx series doesn't require HDD caddy. I think this is what lead_org meant.
    Hope this helps.

  • My external hard drive holding half my iMovie events and projects has crashed: how do I restore the events from another source?

My external hard drive holding half my iMovie events and projects has become corrupted.  I have now downloaded all the same files (from a backup in the cloud) to another hard drive - but iMovie is not "seeing" those events or movies in that external hard drive.  Q1 Is there a way of rectifying that?  (I.e. telling iMovie to point to the relevant folders or files on the new external hard drive)
Q2 I have a TimeMachine backup of the corrupted drive in another drive which i keep elsewhere.  Is it worth me attempting to restore from that backup? And if so where can I restore to (as the original external drive is corrupted) and how do i go about that restore process so that the events and projects re-appear?
thanks in advance for your help.  (I thought i would check re Q2 before embarking on the wrong method!)

When I right click on an image, then went to Go to Folder in Library, it pulls up the new external hard drive where I made the new link. When I try to work on the photos, the image still says file image is offline or missing. When I right click on the image to Show in Finder, it says the image could not be used because the original file could not be found. I eventually did click on their locate and found the image. When I linked those two together, a few minutes later ALL the "?" went missing and now IT WORKS!!!!
    That was weird!
Hope this helps someone else in my predicament.

  • How much can 320 gb hard drive hold? Do you recommend it for a college student?

I need to know whether to go with the 320 gb hard drive or add the 500 gb hard drive instead.

It can hold 320GB or 320,000MB.
An MP3 say is about 5-10MB, a high definition movie is say 1-3GB.
I would suggest getting the 500GB. You ALWAYS need more room. Trust me, you will fill it.

I down loaded my entire contents of my desk top hard drive to my lap top. Now I don't know where my original files and pictures are. How do I find them or down load just what I am missing with out losing what I just installed ?

Hi Again, Well I found Carbon Copy Clone on my old hard drive so I didn't even need to download it. I just dragged it onto my desktop and I did as you said.  Using CCC and within the folder of users which has my folder of old hard drive there now shows a file called.autodiskmounted (whatever that means) and then it has a version of my hard drive below that called hard drive 1, which has nothing, but above both of these folders, there is a folder with an old user name which shows up empty on the hard drive when I search it, but actually shows lots of folders on the CCC. So without getting too excited, it lists some folders and amongst them are folders I cant see normally in the old hard drive, like my safari settings and favourites, and movies music and pictures. However in the movies pictures and music folders I can only see a  blackish square that looks a bit like a blank screen with the text.localised after it .
Does this mean anything to you / Is there  apossibility they may be there? When I selected my new laptop as the destination i got this message below so I did not proceed any further as I'm not sure it will back up the files I need..
To avoid system instability, CCC has applied a filter that will exclude system files from the backup task.
If you would like to restore your Mac OS X system files, restart your computer from the backup volume and try the backup task again.
If you are trying to restore a single item or folder, click the "?" button for additional suggestions.
Is it worth giving it a try? Thanks for this btw, its further than I've got before!!

  • PowerPC G5, 2005 - how much does portable hard drive hold? Model MA034

I am trying to figure out how much this USB portable modem holds. I bought this computer in late 2005 - just found it, had been misplaced for obviously a number of years.
I might not even be sure if it is the portable modem and could possibly be the ethernet adapter. How does one tell the difference?

    Hi Sara,
Had I been paying closer attention to the subject line, I would have seen you were merely confusing what you thought was a portable HD with what I guess was Apples answer to the Macs they made without modems. Glad that page cleared things up.

  • Expansion base USB ports & hard drive no longer recognized

I have an HP dv5000 laptop and the xb2000 expansion base with a built-in hard drive in the base.  I routinely undock the laptop while it's running and plug it back in again and have no problems.  Yesterday, I undocked as usual, but then shut the laptop down while it was undocked.  Then I put it back in the expansion base and booted up again.  The problem is that now I can no longer see the hard drive in the expansion base and the USB ports for the expansion base will also not work.
The really sad part is that this is a new expansion base because the same thing happend about a month ago, but I thought it was a hardware problem and just bought a new base.
Can anyone please help me get my laptop to see the hard drive in the base and also get the USB ports working again as well?
    Thanks,

I tried to post a reply on a computer with Internet Explorer 8 RC1.  My CPU would always be 100% busy as soon as I hit the Reply button.
I complained to HP Support and was told that this forum is not compatible with IE 8.  So, I am now on a computer with IE 7.  UPDATE:  I just executed C:\WINDOWS\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe and my HP Notebook reverted  back to IE 7 without any problems so far.  I am now able to edit this reply (without my CPU being 100% busy)!
I had exactly the same problem with all USB Ports and the optional 160GB USB Hard Drive being nonfunctional, immediately after Microsoft
Update (Custom) finished installing recommended driver "Cypress - Other hardware - HX2LP Kit (3.03.0000.2).
The device appeared in Device Manager, under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, as "HX2LP Kit (3.03.0000.2)".  I uninstalled the device but
after a restart it was there again.
I executed System Restore to a date before the Cypress drivers were downloaded and installed.
All xb2000 USB Ports, the USB Hard Drive and Sound now work as before.  I have been using a mouse and printer plugged into the xb2000 today.  Also,
I completed a Windows Live OneCare, complete backup, to the Hard Drive in the xb2000 base, today.
The one thing that I hate about my xb2000 is that the Hard Drive keeps spinning as long as the Hard Drive Power Adaptor is connected to
the base.  I use "Safely Remove Hardware" on the task bar to safely remove the USB drive and then disconnect the Power Adaptor from the base.  If I leave the disk spinning, after a few minutes I get a very loud clicking sound which sounds like something inside the drive is beating on the hard drive chassis.  Maybe it is the arm which holds the heads.  Complaints to HP have not resulted in a solution to these aggravations.

  • My disk utility option to turn off encryption does not highlight so I can't turn off the encryption of my external hard drive with time machine back up

I have an iMac and Retina MBP. I use Time Capsule for backup of iMac and I wanted to use an external hard drive attached to time capsule as time machine backup. The problem is that I encrypted previously that external hard drive and now Time Capsule does not recognize it.
When I try to turn off encryption with Disk Utility, that option is not highlighted so I cannot use it.
I tried with terminal but it answers The given UUID is a not a CoreStorage Logical Volume UUID

Can you plug in the hard drive directly to your MBP and then decrypt the hard drive?  You should be able to do this by opening up Finder and then either right clicking the hard drive (holding down two fingers and clicking) or holding down ctrl and then clicking on the hard drive.

  • External Hard Drive Not recognized when trying to boot from it.

So I am trying to boot from my external hard drive through firewire but my computer doesn't seem to recognize the external. There is some problem with my Macbook not booting up correctly and I want to backup my data before reinstalling Tiger. They did this at the Apple store and ran disk utility on it my Macbooks hard drive. I could access all my data, but now when I get home and plug in my hard drive, hold down option after booting, the only drive that pops up is the Mac HD. I read somewhere to try partitioning the external drive as Mac Journaled and I did so with my working Macbook Pro. Any ideas whats going on?

Well i got most of my information off the old one, now I am trying to reinstall Tiger to the MacBook. Problem is I initially tried to do an archive install and the install kept failing after the second disc when it asked for the second install disc.
The people at the Apple store suggested that I try to do a wipe of the hard drive and install. Now when I put in the Disc 1 install disc and boot from the cd drive it just sits for a while and then ejects disc 1 and goes back to the place where the install failed from before ie: it keeps asking for the second install disc.
I can't figure out a way to get around this and just do a clean install on the machine. Any thoughts would be great.

  • How does the 1st gen appletv with the hard drive work?

I want to know what the hard drive records and stores. Poscasts? Purchased media? Rented media? Your itunes media? Ripped DVD's?
What does the hard drive hold media wise?
Does the 1st gen have the same features as the 2nd, netflix, poscasts, PC media streaming?

Does the 1st gen directly access podcasts without going thru itunes? Like the 2nd gen can do. Can the drive store podcasts?

  • Can't drag or drop into external hard drive anymore. Worked perfectly before.

I bought a Seagate external hard drive about a year ago. I reformatted it the moment I took it out of the box, plugged it into my laptop, and everything worked perfectly. I dragged and dropped as I liked, and nothing went wrong with it at all. Then I decided to restore my laptop to do a bit of spring cleaning, and suddenly, I can't drag anything INTO the hard drive or open any programs either. It shows up on my desktop and Finder. And I can take things OUT of it, thankfully, but I can't put anything into it, which is extremely frustrating because I use my hard drive as storage and backup.
I did a bit of looking around online, and people are saying that I'll need to reformat it (which I already did), but it'll erase everything in it. Because my hard drive holds almost 300 GB, I'm not too keen on doing that, because it will take AGES, and there's no confirmation that that will actually work. If you have any solutions, please help! And please go step by step as well--I'm absolutely no good with the tech language.

    1. verify same on another Mac if possible.
    2. Go to disk utility and check verify and repair on the drive and see if it checks out
    3. You never should again even consider having a single external copy of you data, at any time for any reason, HD are too cheap to endanger your data like that.
    4. Likely dead SATA bridge card, however I cant recall an instance in which communication was one way on an external with a dead SATA bridge card.
verify 1 and 2,  and SMC reset your Mac and verify again
    SMC reset
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
Then I decided to restore my laptop to do a bit of spring cleaning,
Define what you did in your "restore" and spring cleaning.

  • Can't verify the volume of my Portable Hard Drive with partition?!

    Hi All,
After trying to delete my Time Machine partition to start it fresh I seem to have messed up the rest of my Hard Drive, and even after deleting the partition I now cannot create a new timemachine... It is a portable hard drive and I don't have enough room on my computer to transfer all the files to reformat the drive. Is there anything else I can do?
    I keep getting these errors:
'The volume 'HARDRIVENAME' could not be verified completely.'
And also that repairing the hard drive cannot happen and I instead have to try to re-format.
    etc
When I try to create a new partition I get the error:
'Partition failed with the error: File system formatter failed.'
    Can anyone help? Many thanks.

  • ICloud vs hard drive

If I save a document to my iMac hard drive, will I also be able to edit it on my iPad?  I don't like the idea of having everything stored only in the cloud, but would like it to update across multiple devices.  Is there a setting I can change to have all documents saved ony my iMac also updaded across devices, or is it a one or the other type of situation?

To have your documents updated across devices it must be sync with iCloud, there is always a workaround  but it wont be a one click solution. Save your document to icloud, then save the same document to your hard drive (hold option key while clicking on file will give you the Save as option). This is actually the smartest thing to do because clouds can fail, also hard drives fails so this way you have a real back up of your documents. Be aware that it will consume a great amount of space on the cloud so  you may consider to sync those you really need to be opened on the iPad.
