X200s: incomplete ACPI support in BIOS

Hi Lenovo,
Please make CPU frequency scaling work on Linux. I've got a X200s 7465-3TG with a Celeron SU2300 CPU. The processor supports frequency scaling but the BIOS doesn't report all neccessary info to the system. There's a record in Linux bug-tracking system on this topic:

  • Level of ACPI support with Solaris 10?

What is the current level of ACPI support with Solaris 10 x86? I have been searching forums and Sun documentation and I have not found an official answer to this question from Sun. I have seen posts in which people state what they "think" they know or they know how something worked with "their" system but nothing official from Sun. I assume there is some support for ACPI because the eeprom command can be used with the acpi-user-options. Can I just enable ACPI support on my motherboard and let Solaris 10 Update 3 do the rest? Thanks for the help?

I found this site that seams to answer this question.

  • Is Segate ST91000640NS supported with Bios Version:F.1B?

    Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion dv7t-6100 CTO Quad Edition with Windows 7 Ultamate 64-bit.
     I have dual Segate ST9750420AS 750Gb drives from factory. I woudl like to upgrade my C drive to a Segate ST91000640NS 1 TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache 2.5-Inch.
Will this drive work with this lates version of the BIOS?
    Thanks,
    RPITax

I'm not sure if that particular drive will support the BIOS.  In the Support and Maintenance Guide, there is a list of compatible drives for your notebook. Since you haven't purchased, why not look there and select one that you know will support it?
    I hope this helps.
    Good luck!

  • Help Please - X200 will not boot after Bios Upgrade - keeps asking for power on password

    Hi there,
I am new to this forum and please let me say a big Thank You for your help in advance.
I am using a lenovo thinkpad x200 running windows vista with service pack 1.
The laptop has always been running fine and has never given me any issues. Unfortunately, all this came to an end yesterday when I ran the system assistant which did a round of updates and it prompted me to reflash my bios.
I did what was instructed and closed all open applications and after the laptop restarted, there was a noise from the harddisk (the sound was basically like what happens if the harddisk suddenly loses power). Then, all i got was a black screen, no harddisk acitvity with only the power cable LED and another LED (with the shape of a N tiled at 20 degrees) on.
I searched the forum and did what was suggested in this entry: http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Blank-screen-after-Bios-Upgrade-on-X200/ta-p/29...
This is what I did so far"
I turned off the power, took out the backup battery and waited for about 30 minutes (repeated this step several times, also removing the harddisk) but to no avail.
I removed the RAM and tried booting and there was that characteristic beeping sound.
I replaced the RAM, redid the CMOS clearing, and now there is the Lenovo startup screen. However, there would be an error code 0271 (no date time) and 0251 (something about default configuration). Then, these disappear and all I am left with is the Bios Power On password prompt. Somehow no matter what I type nothing can be input into the field (and I did not create any password as far as I can remember).
I redid the clearing for the power on password by removing the backup battery as suggested at the bottom of this page http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=migr-59377   but it is no use. Each time I restart, even if I press the blue Think Vantage button or F1 or F11, I still get the same 0271 and 0251 error messages and am left with the power on password prompt.
I am really desperate as I really like my lenovo x200 and there is important data on the laptop. I would appreciate any suggestions on how I can solve this. Its amazing how a simple update can turn into such a disaster. Now i know i should never upgrade or update my Bios (or at least proceed with extreme caution).
Anyone can provide some help to get my laptop workin again?
    Thank you very much,
    Mark

  • P67A-GD55 (B3) 3TB Support - What BIOS is Required?

    Hi Guys,
Can someone from staff please confirm what version of the BIOS is required for 3TB support for the P67A-GD55 B3?
I currently have the latest stable BIOS installed from the link below:
    http://uk.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-GD55--B3-.html#?div=BIOS
    Version 1.D (Release Date: 2011-06-24)
    Thanks,
    Mark

2.2+TB support is a standard feature of the UEFI framework.  So, basically, you do not need any special UEFI Version for that.  Note that the 2.2TB barrier is first and foremost a limitation of the common MBR partition tables:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table
The solution (GUID Partition Table (GPT) support) is a part of the (U)EFI framework.
If you want to work with a disk partition larger than 2.2TB, it needs to be a GPT partition.
In case you run into any problems to mark a 3TB GPT as bootable, you may want to consider an UEFI Update to the latest version (E7681IMS.1E0):
    http://eu.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-GD55--B3-.html#/?div=Download
... as it includes a newer version of the Intel AHCI/RAID Firmware.

  • DOS attack affected BIOS ACPI - need DOS BIOS for Satellite P60

    Help!!!!
I am looking for the DOS version of the latest BIOS for the Satellite P60(C), but it seems it is not available for any users on any Toshiba site.
I installed the latest (1.9 for windows) but have the feeling that it still was not good enough to stave off attacks, since suddenly it does not want to boot from the hard disk, and even running software from the CD ROM meets up with a "sticky" end. (either BSOD with ACPI invalid information) or it will not even start on the hard drive, but will start on the floppy drive.
So, I am looking for the latest version of the DOS-based BIOS, but they have locked it out on the USA site and do not show it on the Canadian site.
I have repaired a lot of computers, installed BIOS updates.
I do not know what the difference is between the BIOS of the P60E, P60C, P60A, but assume since it is based on the same model parameters it could not be that different.
So, what I am looking for is the BIOS for mine, but will settle with any one of the P60's

    Hi
I think you will be not successful finding a traditional BIOS update.
The Toshiba pages provide only the BIOS updates which can be updated from the Windows OS.
    > I do not know what the difference is between the BIOS of the P60E, P60C, P60A, but assume since it is based on the same model parameters it could not be that different.
I think the differences are not visible for a common notebook user but it looks like the different A60 notebooks were delivered with different devices like CPUs or GPUs and therefore the BIOS update is not the same.
    bye

  • ACPI - Linux&OtherOS - BIOS 1.4 Issues not solved

Now I think that is time to become angry.
Me and other Linux Users have found an issue about ACPI in this MoBo that doesn't allow to get the board in standby. The problem was a BIOS BUG , in the DSDT table, that is bugged . The ACPI BIOS is non compleatly conformed to the standards. This make me think that MSI have produced this BIOS only thinking that this will work only on MS Windows.
Now , I've adviced MSI by E-Mail 2 times (no response), posted on the forum this issue and the mods have reported me that have forwarded my messages to MSI. I've posted to MSI the patch to the DSDT table too , so this problem was completly solved , MSI has only to check the syntax of the patch , correct it and patch the BIOS , but MSI haven't do this.
Now , I need ACPI, on the box I've read ACPI Compilant , but this isn't completly true! On the box they should write Windows ACPI Compilant!
I wants only ask you why MSI have ignored completly this ACPI Issue
    Bye
    Marcello

No it's needed because of TLB fix that you don't need but the first Phenoms do.

    Hello,

So I reinstalled and again, got the same "could not install" this and that..., I've restart the computer several times, I think I treid to install about 4 times but got the same messeges each time.
I than download the Adobe Support Adviser so I could package the issues and send it over as Adobe suggested, but it failed doe to netword unavailable.
For some strange reason, I than discovered that my network was disconnected and I fixed it. I open the software again, and again it told me I am disconnected form network. After 4 times, I discovered that everytime i use this software it disconnect me from my network.
So now I got an incomplete installation without any knowledge of how to fix and how to send.
Any advise what I can do?
    thank you,
    Shlomit

and how do I do that?
As I said, the support adviser failed to package as it always disconnect my computer from server...

  • Kernel doesn't log ACPI events: ACPI module or Bios corruptions

Well, this is very strange and i dunno where to look at to solve this:
My new NP530U3C (Samusung ultrabook)is running Arch and i'm currently using acpid to trigger the acpi events couse i have no DE (fluxbox).
I can't understand the way my kernel and acpid log the LID event:
    Kernel.log
    Oct 6 20:06:46 localhost kernel: [ 2.105259] ACPI: Lid Switch [LID0]
    Oct 6 20:44:31 localhost kernel: [ 2.111136] ACPI: Lid Switch [LID0]

Oct 6 23:33:40 localhost logger: LID closed
Oct 6 23:33:48 localhost logger: LID opened
When i close the lid, i have to wait 10 sec approx to trigger the LID close event and start the suspend action!
on wakeup i don't know because my samsung can wakeup only with the power button (no lid in wakeup events).
    So somebody can enlighten me?
    *EDIT <-----
I can summarize it is a corruption of the Bios/ACPI module that affect this laptop after a certain suspentions circle (I mean not every first suspentions).
I would like to debug in a better way but i have no instruments to investigate:
If someone can point me to a way to debug this stuff like Bios corruptions and/or Kernel module failure...
    Any advide is appreciated

well, is a samsung ultrabook! i'm doing some m ore tests and still 10 sec delayed!
    a note:
when the kernel log the LID state i can suspend instantly after i really close the LID.
after a reboot, and halt/start thigs doesn't changes....
The kernel logger resume after some reboots or *resetting* (using a needle to click a button above the laptop close to the battery) the laptop <-- this method was whrote somewhere and i tried it, and solved sometinms the issue for 2/3 days.
is starnge because it appears without any regularity, but i'm not so pro and is difficult for me to figure out what can trigger the event!
    EDIT
    Oct 7 00:21:58 localhost kernel: [ 686.653890] psmouse serio1: Touchpad at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost sync at byte 6
    Oct 7 00:21:59 localhost kernel: [ 686.668774] psmouse serio1: Touchpad at isa0060/serio1/input0 - driver resynced.
dunno if is important, but after a resume from suspend, i got this messege. i thought it was only after it (like a little error in the resume hooks) but no i'm noticing it in  the messages.log every how

  • T410 - high DPC latency in ACPI.sys on BIOS update (leads to audio pops and crackles)

I recently updated my Thinkpad T410's BIOS because the fan wasn't working properly. The fan is working fine now, but ever since the BIOS update I've been experiencing severe audio pops and crackles. I used the tool LatencyMon to inspect, and the chief culprit seems to be ACPI.sys, with execution times as long as 10ms.
I've tried disabling all the power management options in the BIOS and changing everything to max performance. I've also tried disabling other various devices such as the network adapters, but nothing seems to help. Any idea?

    Hi agrilledfish,
    Is your BIOS 3.03?
I found a post on MixVibes regarding audio drops:
    Audio drops/USB problems
You can try to disable ACPI.sys in device manager or uninstall and reinstall the software.

  • MS-6116 Large Harddrive not supported (latest bios)

I'm trying to install a Western Digital 60gb (WD600BB) in a system with a MS-6116 motherboard.  It has the latest bios (v2.3) and according to the site, several versions ago large harddrive support was added (>65gb).  The board is the plug n play version.
I have tried all manner of settings in the bios, but the drive is constantly detected as 33gb which was the cut off before the bios upgrade.  Is there some sort of hardware jumper limiting the drive size, or a bios setting limiting it?  I have checked the manual to no avail.  It is currently set as the primary slave behind a quantum 6.4gb drive.  Edit, should also add that the jumper is correctly set on the Western Digital harddrive, I've also tried all the others just to be safe.
I have already tried searching through these forums, but none of the hits proved useful for my situation.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.  As far as I can tell this should be working.
    Cheers,
    othy

    It resolves to:
    http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/6duj34uc.iso
which is not found at least at this time.
This is version:  3.05-3.06  which includes some fixes for Windows 7 and for x64 systems this is the method necessary for updating BIOS.
    X201s 1440x900 LED backlight 2.13 GHz, 8 GB, Intel X25-M 160 GB SSD, Intel 6200 a/b/g/n, BT, 6-cell, 9-cell, Windows Ultimate 7 x64 SP1 RC, 3G/4G WiFi Hotspot, Lenovo USB to DVI converter

Yep looks like that link is broken. I've found that this type of Lenovo support site error ususally gets fixed within 24 hours after I report it through the Site feedback link on the left of the site pages.

The only solutions are to get any Sandy Bridge cpu (e.g. cheap Celeron G440) for flashing yourself or to ask a PC-Shop or MSI to flash it for you. Having it flashed would be not for free also of course.
    THANK
