X200s Wireless Randomly Turning off Causing System Freeze

Hi,
I've run into a problem recently with my 2009 x200s running Windows 7 Home edition.
Over the last day I noticed that after doing between 5-10 minutes of wireless web browsing, the system freezes.  The exact moment this happens, I also notice that the wireless indicator just below the LCD goes from active to inactive.  Further, while no amount of key-pressing does anything, including ctrl-alt-del, I can, amazingly, turn on/off the thinkpad lcd nightlight!  The only way to recover from this is to press down on the power button for 5 seconds and reboot.
Then, 5-10 minutes later, the random freeze repeats.  That is, with the wireless indicator light doing from green to dark.
By the third time this occured, I got a hint. I checked the event logs for anything unusual.  Nothing.
I'm running a current version of Avast! antivirus and ran a Malwarebytes scan, again, nothing!
I'm at my wit's end.  Any ideas from Lenovo gurus?
Help!
Best,
Dave

Ok, an update.
The freezing occurred while working in the library.  That hadn't been a problem previously.  So, why today?
I went home and tried it again.  Everything seemed to work fine.
So, I guess my question now is this: Why would my x200s wireless connection stop working in a public access point causing a freeze in Win7 while working just fine at home??
Odd....

  • Solve X200s the wireless radio randomly turned off/disconnected

I had exactly an issue on my x200s. The wireless radio randomly turned off, and Window 7 was frozen, no response. It took me a lot of time to figure it out. Eventually, it worked out.
Please go to "Lenovo access connections", and find the "tools" tab. In the "global setting", uncheck "Allow the wireless lan radio to be turned off when inactive".
This is going to solve your problem. I worked for me.
    Hope this help.

FWIW, I think the ThinkVantage software just sucks. On my X200 the wifi would drop constantly, every 3 to 5 minutes.  Driver upgrade, software upgrade, settings etc didnt change anything. I wiped the entire hard drive and installed linux, and I haven't seen a drop since.  Maybe try just using the windows wifi to manage your connections.  It could also be related to the power management dropping the wifi, which would also be the ThinkVantage.

My iphone randomly turned off out of nowhere. I was getting dressed, my phone was working one minute then literally the next it syopped now it wont charge i cant turn it on however the phone is on cause i called it and it rang. What to do? help please. I tried putting it in DFU mode but my lock button doesnt work and my phone wont charge so i cant connect to itunes

There is no reason to put it in DFU mode, a reset should work.  Although, without a working power button it is not possible to reset the device.
Sounds like it is time to replace the damaged device.

  • Tactic 3d Wrath wireless gaming headset randomly turns off

My headset recently turns off randomly for anywhere between a few seconds to a few minutes before turning itself back on. I have downloaded all the most recent drivers from support. I have tried disabling the headset and re-enabling the headset in my audio devices. i have tried disconecting the usb from my computer. Nothing i do seems to have any effect in anywhere on my device. It appears to be randomly turning off and on for various lengths of time.
*Upon further investigation, i have discovered that the problem is that my headset will not stay paired with the usb device. They randomly de-sync and start flashing before synching up again. I do not know how to make them stay paired.

    Any fix found ?
I know i have to keep plugging it back in multiple times and eventually it stays paired longer ... LOL
    but it does desync...

  • I'm trying to use a madcatz controller on the mac but it turns on for 2 seconds and turns off. the system profiler picks it up as a xbox 360 gamepad but says its not been configured. how can i allow my self use this with my games.

i'm trying to use a madcatz controller on the mac but it turns on for 2 seconds and turns off. the system profiler picks it up as a xbox 360 gamepad but says its not been configured. how can i allow my self use this with my games!

I have exactly the same problem.
I'm a little peed-off with Microsoft on this. The original wireless controller I have doesn't work either since the cable I'm using is 'just' the charge and play cable, so a direct connection to my Mac won't work with this cable. It's a cable for god's sake. Why on EARTH put any limitations on this!?!?
Next I learn I need an additional USB wireless receiver from Microsoft to get my original 360 controller to talk to my Mac. As I certainly don't want to fork any more microsoft dollars on this, this is not an option.
Next I think, yes! I have a MadCatz 360 wired USB controller. This should surely do the trick just plugging it in and the way I go. But oh no, for some reason I plug my MadCatz Xbox360 controller in, it flashes a few times then switches off and can't be turned on again.
The System Profiles recognizes it as a MadCatz 360 device controller but that is about it, but the ontroller software I download for the System Prefs (360Controller, USBOverdrive etc) don't even recognize the controller as being plugged in.
What the **** Is The Microsoft Deal with all of this!?!?
PS: Oh, and I forgot to mention, there are No drivers for device 4716 that I can find on the MadCatz website, or am I going blind?
If anyone has a link, it would be appreciated.

  • ITunes Causing System Freezes

After playing a CD or listening to my music library for a while, I get random freezes; eg spinning beachball in iTunes. It happens when an album is finished or a playlist is finished and I go back to iTunes to eject or quit or play a new playlist. Freezes. When I try to click Apple (in order to click on Force Quit), it isn't available...the beachball rules. The only thing I can do with the cursor is click on Finder in the Dock; or the desktop area outside of open apps. Cmnd+Q doesn't work. Cmnd+esc doesn't work. CmndoptnQ doesn't work. Cmndoptnesc brings up the force quit dialogue. That leads to a "force finder to quit?" dialogue. A couple times I've had to resort to hard rebooting.
Suggestions would be appreciated; but another issue is the fact that this is causing system freezes and I was under the impression that the cool thing about OS X is that one app won't cause system freezes.
There's another similar thread titled 'it crashes', but system freezes aren't mentioned.
    Any ideas?

Still doing it...but I give up on getting any help.

  • My Mac book is randomly turning off.

Hi my Mac book is randomly turning off usually at a little bit under half battery. The computer is about two to three years old and I use it a lot. Why is it doing this and what should I do? I am taking it in to the apple store tomorrow. Around how much will it cost to get in.

An examination at the Apple store will not cost you anything. Be sure to make a reservation so you don't have to wait too long at the Genius Bar. If there is a repair required there may be a cost for that.
Have you tried resetting the System Management Controller? That would be the first step I would try for most power related issues.
    Best of luck.

  • Monitors randomly turn off!

We have a PowerPC G5 which works perfectly fine (or was). We moved it to a different part of the office to be used by somebody else.
At the old location it was hooked up to 2 CRT LaCie monitors. At the new location it's hooked up to 2 LCD monitors.
While the editor is working, the monitors will randomly turn off for a few seconds, and then turn back on! There has been no system changes since the move, nor any new software installed (to my knowledge). On his old mac (a slower PowerPC G5), his 2 LCD monitors worked perfectly fine. Any idea what's going on?

cheak your graphics card. I think I reading post that the ATI has overheating issues, expecially when dusty. I have a 2008 Mac Pro with the 2600, and have similar problems.

  • Samsung Gusto randomly turns off

I just bought a Samsung Gusto a couple weeks ago and it's randomly turning off by itself.  I can't figure out any pattern...sometimes when i get it out or open it to see if i've gotten any messages it's turned off.  This is really causing problems as I'm missing some important calls and messages - it's been very unreliable and it's driving me crazy.  Has anyone else had this problem? If i go into a verizon store will they give me a replacement or are they all having this problem? Thanks.

    @Lbow87
Wow! No the Gusto shouldn't be shutting off like you described. I can't imagine how frustrating that situation would be for you. We definitely want to get this corrected immediately.
I've contacted Samsung and this is not a known issue with the Gusto. Is there any physical or water damage to the device? Please remove the battery and see is there any corrosion or buildup where the battery connects to the phone. Is the battery loose in the back compartment?
Please let me know so we can get this resolved promptly.
    Thank you

  • Randomly Turns Off - Part 2

Well the original thread has been locked for some reason, probably causing too much stress on the servers.
Carry on posting your findings about the random turning off problem here, we need a solution!

I had the same problem on a week 24 MacBook, got it picked up by TNT, and a new MacBook should be on its way.
    ::MY CRASHBOOK EXPERIENCES AND CONSIDERATIONS::
I was never able to reproduce the shutoffs in "safe mode". And with the battery detached it seemed almost stable: I only had shutoffs when transferring backups to a firewire hdd. Also is seemed OS independent: happened in OS X, and when running hardware test from DVD or in Ubuntu from CD.
When I think about it, the shutoffs started the same day og the day after I compiled some programs with darwinports (dia, gnumeric, nedit and dependencies). I also ran some sequence alignment (mafft). They are all heavy tasks. Could this have triggered it? And could it be that ALL MacBooks will start randomly shutting off eventually once you have done some (heavy) compiling on them. I sure hope no
    t!
::TESTING IF A NEW MACBOOK SUFFERS FROM THE PROBLEM?::
It seems that in most cases (all?) this started happening after a week or more. But the question is, could the fault have been discovered the first day by putting it through some intensive tests? Would "yes > /dev/null & yes > /dev/null" reveal it right away? Or is there another sure test?
I consider it important to be able to quickly determine whether a brand new MacBook has the problems as it can be catastrophic starting to rely on the machine if ends up dead after a few weeks (14 days+).
::SOMEONE, PLEASE CREATE A CRASHBOOK WIKI::
This thread is getting very long and takes forever to load, so it would be really useful if someone could create a wiki or something summing up the important points and discoveries. This site "http://racr.free.fr" (already mentioned by someone else) seems like a good idea, but unfortunately it has not been updated since I first discovered it. So a wiki not depending on only one persons time and effort would be nice. Anyone up for the challenge of starting it?

  • Radio Randomly Turns Off

I've had this issue on the 8330 and 8130 a few times.  The radio on the device randomly turns off when the battery has a full charge and the device is receiving a good signal from the towers.  What causes the radio to turn off like this?  Is there a way to correct this without ordering a new phone for the customer?
We have done so much with so little for so long that now we can do anything with nothing.

I've never seen that issue with an 8330 or an 8130 before, only think I can say is the batterys are some how defective. Obviously if a battery gets low enough, the radio will turn off.
If someone helped you give them kudos. Research all info!

  • Computer randomely turns off-Not over heating

So, my laptop will just randomely turn off.  I took it in thinking it may be a hardware problem.  Supposedly everything checked out fine and they said it was my OS.  So I oreded the recovery disks and reformated.  It ran fine off the disks until it came to the point where it had to finish the recovery via the hard drive.  Now that it is running off the hard drive it started randomely turning off again.  Since the OS hasn't even been fully restored to the computer I can't even run the computer in safe mode.
Is it my hard drive which was said to be fine?  Or could it be something else?  Oh, and I don't believe it is overheating because it won't stay on for more than 5 mintues and sometimes not any longer than 1.

First and foremost, make sure you are on 1500VA UPS. Second, that there is nothing on the same circuit that would draw or interfere, best if nothing else is on the same breaker.
Summer storms, we've been racked so hard the house shook and everything I have is on UPS - TV and even most lights. But sometimes it is possible to have a "power event" that you won't yourself see or notice but enough to affect a computer. Not that it was what caused this, but a UPS is good investment to protect your modems, along with computer equipment. And never have to reset the VCR again hopefully.

  • 5s Phone randomly turning off

My phone is randomly turning off for the past month. I have already taken it to an apple store who had a look and performed a battery drain and assured me the battery was fine. I do NOT see how.
It is turning off at different points, it has turned off at around 34% and it has just then turned off at 72%.
I cannot turn my phone back on without plugging it into a charger.. This is very difficult especially for work alarms and such.
When i turn my phone back on, the battery percentage can sometimes say either 0-10% however just now it still says 72%.
This is happening multiple times a day now and is causing a huge problem.
I have heard of Iphone battery calibrations but apparently this can no longer happen on the 5's.
    Can anybody help!?!?

The support is strong with this one.

  • My daughter has a problem with her 4S. Randomly turning off.

She owned it for approx 1 1/2 years now. Phone is randomly turning off, or instantly losing battery life.  Brought it to Verizon yesterday, guy didn't even touch it. Said nothing can be done unless she downloads everything to computer and resets her devce, or buy a new phone. Of course that made her more upset. What can be done.
