X201 hangs and makes noises during audio playback

Hello, I've a 3249CTO X201 with 8g of ram and an updated Hdd (seagate momentus xt 500gb with 4gb ssd).
I had issues with the Hdd that where partially resolved with a seagate firmware update (the hdd kept going from standby to active mode without apparent reason and it was assumed to be a too agressive power saving mode...)
Anyway, my issue here is the annoying chirping sound coming out the speakers during any audio playback (online audio streams, films, mp3, youtube... you name it!) anytime the Hdd is accessed.
It even seems like everything just hangs for anywhere between 0 and 2 seconds at the exact same time.
It only happens when on battery and using w7 pro 64bit. If I use ubuntu from my 8g sdhc card, it never occurs (even if I use chrome on both and watching the exact same youtube video). (NOTE that I did access the hdd from ubuntu to prove my point...)
I think it is related to the power gestion of the system and I've tried a countless serie of different power management settings. It affect the frequency of the episodes (would occur more or less often) but it still happens.
When plugged in, it never occurs....
If it doesn't occur under ubuntu (I mean never!), it should not be hardware related, however the w7 way of managing power is different so I tend to think there IS a hardware issue (weakness) wich might be highligted by the OS.
Anybody has a good lead on this?

Hello Fafaneboat,
It might be an issue with firmware of your system, I would like to suggest you please visit the below mentioned web link to download and install few drivers according to your Operating System.

  • Iphone 5s Echo and Swoosh noises during active call

    Hello All,
I purchased a new iphone 5s around a month back and I consistently get echoes of my own voice and swoosh noises during call. This happens irrespective if I make the call or an incoming call is answered, from any location like my room and on the street (No tunnels, elevators, etc). I originally thought it was because I receive notifications like texts or if my cheek touches the display, but I hear this noises and echoes even if I am on headphone (both apple and other branded headphones). Is this is a known issue, if so how do I resolve it ?
    Thanks

Flip the silent switch on the side of the iphone.

  • Having random crashes during audio playback.

    Greetings,
I seem to be having some issues with crashing during audio playback.  Here are my specs:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Plat  (1.B BIOS)
    AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (Winchester)
4x512 Corsair TWINX 1024 3200C2PT (Bought at seperate times, but revisions are almost exact and they run stable)
    NVIDIA GeForce 6800
    Creative Audigy 2 ZS
    Forton Source FSP 400W
It seems to do the same thing every time.  The audio will start skipping (in more than 1 media player) and after no BSOD, the computer will reboot itself.  I have it set to show a BSOD as well.  It has even started to ask to check my D: drive for errors after this.
The problem first started to occur after a couple of things.  I recently updated my bios to the 1.B version as stated.  And a week or so ago I did a fresh install of Windows.  The sound was working fine with the new BIOS, but now with the new Windows install it has had issues.  Are there any known issues with the Audigy2 ZS and the new 1.B BIOS that I just didn't experience before?  Granted, I did not have my old install of Windows long under the new 1.B BIOS.
At this moment I am using the AC97 onboard audio to see if that crashes as well, and just to hopefully have the random crashes stop happening.  I know there are quite a few avenues to take, I am just looking for opinions on which would be the best one.  Reflash the bios to an older version?  Try the Audigy2 in a different PCI slot? (I had it in the 2nd to bottom as the NIC is plugged into the orange PCI)  Contact Creative for an RMA or repair of the card?  I only bought it on December 16th, so it's fairly new.  Something else I am maybe missing?  A BIOS or Windows setting?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.  If I need to provide any more info, please say so and I will promptly.
    Thanks.

I have the same MB and CPU but I am using the onboard sound and have not had any problems with that.
I can recommand that you bump up your memory voltage to 2.6~2.7 and loosen up your memory timings to something like 2.5-5-5-8-2T.
Then remove all drivers from your Audigy, disable your onboard sound and remove those drivers, shut down and install your Audigy and boot up allowing Windows to find your new hardware and then install the drivers.

  • 4th gen IPOD 40G spinning and make noise

My ipod shows the apple logo but starts to internally spin and make noise. When I connect to Itunes---it tells me I have a corrupt IPOD. I have tried resetting but to no availabe. AppleCare ran out 2 months ago. Any suggestions.
I guess it will run until the battery is discharged.

I have a 40g 4th gen and a 20g 4th gen. Both having same problem. Had the 40g sent out for repairs. Got it back, worked fine for one week and started making the "hung-up" noises. Repairman told me to give it a couple good "whacks" on it's backside and that seemed to do the trick. Now, if I could just get it to restore I'll be back in business.

grey screen no apple followed by blue screen with vertical lines. Graphics and logic board replaced <6 months ago. What to do? I held down shift, it gets HOT HOT and makes noises. (for safety mode) followed by a blank grey screen and blue screen. Then tried the other way (sorry, I think  it's command alt delete? I don't remember) and it turned from grey (no apple symbol) to blue blank. Then third time, grey followed by blue with vertical lines, not blocky clear lines that you can see if you are close to it.
    Thanks for any help!

You have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.

  • Macbook air runs hot and makes noise like processor running hard when connected to display - even when not actively using air book

macbook air runs hot and makes noise like processor running hard when connected to display - even when not actively using air book

You could use the free tool iStat Pro to see what changes when you connect your MBA to the display. Without doing anything the CPU pane should show a high percentage for "Idle". If the idle value is too low, launch the Activity Monitor and sort by CPU usage. There is a pane showing the different temperatures of your computer. Watch them for a few minutes after connecting the display.

  • Clicking noise during music playback

During music playback on my iphone 3G I get a faint continuous clicking noise in the background, its just audiable over the music and really gets on my nerves. I've tried my iphone with several different types of ear phones, apple and non-apple but its always there, on every song I play.
I have also listened to tracks from the macbook through itunes to see if the sound is on the track but the music plays through nice and clear from my macbook.
Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone got any ideas about how to fix it?
    Sam

    Hi Sam,
Are you seeing this issue with tracks purchased from the iTunes Store or with tracks imported from CD?
Try testing with FREE on iTunes content> go to iTunes Store> FREE on iTunes near the bottom center of the page.
If the issue happens with music purchased from the iTunes Store try restoring the iPhone.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744
If its only happening with content imported from CD or sources other than the iTunes Store, try importing the tracks again or converting them in iTunes.

  • HDD sometimes "hangs" and makes repetitive noises after package instal

So I installed Arch the other day on my old computer, after getting tired of Ubuntu's  slowness and outdated versions of software. But I seem to be having a problem. Now keep in mind that this HDD works fine at all other times, and the SMART data seems OK.
When pacman is actually installing a package (i.e. "(1/2) installing [package]"), the process sometimes hangs, while the hard drive is making a repetitive noise. This only happens directly after the package install. The system does not freeze while it is doing this. At all other times, the hard drive behaves normally and the system runs smoothly. Is there anything that pacman reads/writes to directly after the package install that could be causing this?
EDIT: This seems to be happening on removal of packages as well.

    - "click zzzzzzzz, click zzzzzzz, click zzzzzzz"
    - fire up Disk Utility. No HDD
Are those early signs of a dying hard drive?
It's definitely not normal behavior. The HDD could be dying, or there could be data corruption. Either way... not good.
I strongly recommend that you back up any important files as soon as humanly possible.
Get anything you need off that drive... and send the computer in for service.

  • Mic audio line makes noise during recording

I have a condenser mic and have not had any problems until now. I don't think its the mic as when I plug the headphones into the "phones" jack on my mixer, its fine. However, when I plug the headphones into the line out (headphone on the back of my IMacG5 there is static like noise when I talk into or touch the mic.
    What are the possibilities?

    1.) You're in a Windows forum
2.) You're in an iTunes forum when your issue doesn't sound iTunes related in the least
May want to post this in the appropriate forum.

  • ITunes 11.1.3 issues - freezing during audio playback.

Like many other folks on here, I'm having some playback issues with iTunes 11.1.3.
Macbook (couple years old) 2.4 mhz 2 core- 4 gigs ram
We use this computer primarily for music playback for dance classes and performances. Have run dozens of shows over the last year or so with zero issues.
There *might* be a better playback software option, but iTunes doesn't get in the way with too many options, has (up until now) been rock solid, and has never let us down, and is less prone to user error causing huge WHOOPS during something important.
That is, until 11.1.3. Didn't really notice any issues at first, but wife came home from a dress rehearsal Wednesday evening and complained - "it froze a couple of times while playing back Act 1. What's wrong with my computer?". (Act 1 - approx 50 minutes of music - 40ish total cuts).
I looked at it - she had a ton of other stuff running - mail - wifi - DVDPlayer - iPhoto - you name it. I figured that was the problem, shut all the other stuff off, and figured it was solved.
Nope - I'm running audio during our final tech rehearsal this evening before performances start in the morning.
35 or 40 minutes in - froze again during a track.
It just stopped - buttons became unresponsive - beachball came up - we waited a minute - and then it freaked out while trying to catch up with anything I had pressed, skipped around a bit, then resumed acting normal again.
Took a short break - checked nothing else was running that didn't need to be and made some adjustments:
    Wifi off
    Cloud off
Check downloads, sync, podcasts ... all off.
Reset all warnings. Reset cache ( which took a surprising amount of time)
    Match and Genius, off
Opened Acitvity Monitor and stopped any processes that were not essential
    Reboot ....
Another 30 or 40 minutes later - froze again.
Luckily, the lighting guy had a PC laptop with him. I quickly authorized his computer, transferred everything, and the rest of the evening went without a glitch.
Not sure what to do next. I'm pretty sure it's NOT the computer.
Disk checks OK. All hardware test are OK.
    Couple of observations:
    1. If I repair permissions - it finds a TON of messed up (?) iTunes permissions and fixes them. One day later, it find just as many again. What's up with that?
    2. If I watch disk access in the Actiity monitor during playback - on occassion there's a WRITE spike. Odd. What's it writing? This is with NOTHING ELSE running but iTunes, which didn't glitch during the spike, but still, what's that? A contributing factor? A clue?
    3. CPU and memory use looked OK. Haven't managed to get it to glitch again while I'm actually watching this though.
Between what I've tried, and what I've read here, I'm pretty convinced our Macbook isn't at fault here. I'm pretty sure there's a problem with 11.1.3
If anybody has other observations or suggestions, I'l love to hear them.

    Are these recent releases?
I had troubles right after iTunes 10 came out because Digital copies were misreading "10" as "1" since the version check script was only looking for a single digit version number. Newer releases shouldn't have this, but if it's more than two years old, it might do this.

  • Freezes without a reason and makes noises

my computer freezes without an obvious reason. A message appears in many languages asking me to hold the start button to reboot.
Then, sometimes, it brings up a white screen where it tells me to type mac-boot. When i type that it freezes... with strange patterns (lignes) on the screen.
Something has changed also for the past few months. A noise, increasing, when i use softwares like maya or cinema 4D. Especialy when i do renders. This noise seems to come from the processor or maybe the fan, i can be sure. It calms down when the render finishes.
    Any ideas?
    thanks for reading that.

I would guess that if the noise you're hearing is coming from the area underneath the top of the speaker grill(e) on the left it is the fan, and it is normal that you should be hearing it during processor intensive tasks. The processor runs silently, so you can rule that out....
    You are experiencing kernel panics
A message appears in many languages asking me to hold the start button to reboot.
Don't hold the power button to restart the machine when these occur. Instead, hold the power button until the machine shuts down. Let the machine sit for a minute, then restart normally.
Open the file, /Library/Logs/panic.log and look for the entries corresponding to the past two or three kernel panics and post them here. Maybe we can see what the problem is.
Also, kernel panics are often hardware-related. Have you added any third-party RAM to your machine. If so, does all of your RAM show up in System Profiler? Do the panics occur with any peripheral devices attached to your machine?
Have you run Apple Hardware Test which is on the Install & Restore DVD that shipped with your computer?

  • Crash during audio playback while Analysis Text open

    Using Premiere CC 7.2:
I just started playing around with 'Analyze Content' option and once that was done, the Analysis Text was populated in the Metadata panel. If I click on any parts of the Analysis Text and hit Play, Premiere CC crashes.  If I play the audio from the source monitor, no issues.
For now, I'll work around it by playing from the Source Monitor and having the metadata panel up to correct the text.

Did some more troubleshooting. Try this:
    1. Open project
    2. Select the audio clip so it populates the metadata panel. Don't double click so it populates the Source Monitor.
    3. Select any word from the Analysis Text. Hit Play from Metadata panel. Crash occurs.
    Meanwhile, this will work:
    1. Open project
    2. Double click the audio clip so it populates the metadata panel and Source Monitor.
    3. Select any word from the Analysis Text. Hit Play from Metadata panel. Plays normally.

  • Why does the printer suddenly wake up and make noises and the tray moves but not printing?

It behaves as if it is about to print something but nothing there to print. It is connected wirelessly. It is rather eerie.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Some printers will wake themselves up on a regular basis to calibrate the print heads or to clean the toner components.
You usually can't entirely disable this feature because it's an important way to maintain the printer health. Depending on the printer you can sometimes change how often this maintenance is done.
