X201 HD and Operating Sysytem RAM questions

 Hello - I appreciate any insights as I am about to pull the trigger on an X201 purchase, however had a few last-minute configuration questions re:
Hard drives
Can I add a solid state drive later (in addition to the current HD drive)?
Not sure if I should go for a 250GB FDE drive or a 500GB non-FDE drive. I am sure 250B would be enough space, however was not sure about how useful FDE was for me
Can I add a spinning HD drive later to a system with a solid state drive (or vice-versa)?
2. Operating system(s)
Can I install Windows XP and Windows 7 (i.e. a dual boot machine?
Windows 7 Professional 64 – needs 2GB RAM and 20GB of HD space. I was going to get 4GB of RAM (2 DIMM). Is the RAM sufficient?
 Thanks!

1. The X201 can only hold one hdd in its bay, so you have to choose from either the SSD or the platter hdd.
2. Unless you work with sensitive documents or have a high tendency to lose your personal possessions, then i don't think you would need the FDE drives. Just get the regular 500 gig would be fine.
3. You only can use one drive at a time.
4. 4 gigs of ram should more than enough.

  • Pageless Managed beans and operation bindings, design question

    Hi,
    I am using ADF Faces and ADF BC and JDev 10.1.3.
    I want to declaratively execute an operation binding from a managed bean which does not have a page definition.
    How can I create a page definition for a managed bean which will allow me to define and call operation bindings in the same way that you can in a backing bean?
    In the past I have used the binding layer to get references to the AM and then execute the client methods directly.
    How can I do this declaratively from a managed bean?
    regards,
    Brenden

    Hi Steve,
    a good example would be a managed bean which is used by many pages for provide dynamic page forwarding (using global forwards).
    The page forwarding is based on what data the user has selected and the entry tasklist will have pages added and removed based on the users entered information.
    At the moment I use references in the managed bean which get the binding context by evaluating #{data} to get a reference to the AM and directly call an client method, which calls a PL/SQL procedure and returns a global forward string. The AM is imported into the managed bean and methods called directly.
    This is just one example, but probably the best I can come up with for now.
    In a backing bean I can use an operation binding to call a method and get a result declaratively like this:
            BindingContainer bindings  = getBindings();
            OperationBinding operation = bindings.getOperationBinding("getUserByEmail");
            operation.getParamsMap().put("email", email);
            String userName = (String)operation.execute();whereas in a managed bean I have to get direct references to the AM to call the method directly.
    if there is a way to do this in the same way as backing beans it would seem a more abstracted and cleaner approach?
    regards,
    Brenden

    ok, so i bought a imac 27 about 4 months ago, and now they release a new one!  ****... So my question is, should I sell this one (which by the way is the i5 2.8 with 1 gb 5750 and 4gb ram) and buy the new imac 27 i5,or keep the one i have and buy more ram. I mostly use my computer for photoshop cs5 and illustrator cs5 for graphics out put as well as surfing the web and music.
         Please give me you thoughts on what I should do!!  Thanks  lot!

    The new iMac is about 25% or so faster than your current iMac(comparable model would be the 3.1ghz version). There are a couple of things that you will benefit from such as the dual Thunderbolt/Mini Display ports/ which may help with multitasking. The video card in the new iMac again the comparable model being the 3.1ghz is a lotttttttt better than the current one that you have. So thinking of the long run those few things may be beneficial for you to upgrade(but it depends on what is important to you).
    I had the 2.93ghz i7 version that I just bought in March this year and I turned around and sold it about a week before the new iMac's were announced. I got about $1600 for it, yeah I took a loss but to me it was worth it because my new iMac performs that much better. Now keep in mind I went from i7 to i7...3.4ghz i7 with the 2gb video card. Now I have dual thuderbolt/mini display ports. I have noticed significant gains in my video editing and also in my gaming. So to me it was definitely worth the upgrade!
    One last thing, I would not have sold my 2.93 i7 and then bought the 3.1ghz i5, the big reason is because HT(hyper threading), it's only on the i7 model(3.4ghz)... If you take a look at some of the bench marks on engadget, maclife, macrumors, macworld, ****Barefeats.com(they really get into benchmarking)*** you will see charts that will help you make a better decision.
    In closing I would say look into it, if you can get a good price out of your current iMac to put toward a new iMac then do it. Like others have mentioned to you, tech changes and Apple will change the tech in these machines next year or do a speed bump later this year or so. One last thing if you go from the 2.8 i5 up to the 3.4 i7, you would definitely see the difference (HT is a must especially for programs that utilize it. You can go to my youtube channel(mob1278) and take a look at my geekbench results.... my 2.93 i7 scored around 10500-11000(8gb ram)...my 3.4 i7 scores from 12700-13000 with 4gb ram....so yeah as you can see big difference. Basically the 3.4 i7 would perform similar or just under a 2.4ghz 8core 2010 Mac Pro which runs you about $3500 with no monitor.... it's your money spend it how you want....and Lion is only going to push it even more when it is released!

  • Hello to all. I'm not an expert in operating systems, and I pose this question: Can I upgrade from 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion on a Mac Book Pro

    Hello to all. I'm not an expert in operating systems, and I pose this question: Can I upgrade from 10.6.8 to Mountain Lion on a Mac Book Pro

    That depends on the Macbook Pro.The requirements for Mountain Lion are listed here:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
    It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
    You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • Ram and Final Cut Pro Questions...

    Ok, so I have a 2.66 Mac Pro with 2GB of RAM. I am now starting to work with HD content, so I just got 2 more GB of RAM from OWC. But I've been reading that I should probably have more than 4GB of RAM to work with HD content. I have the ATI card on the Mac Pro btw.
    I just want peoples' opinion on this. Is 4GB enough? If not, I get confused about the Ram's performance on the Mac Pro. Don't I have to get to 8GB of Ram in order to get the RAM to act quickly? I'm not sure how all that works, but I just remember reading on here ram should be doubled for its bandwidth to reach max potential. Does that mean 6GB of RAM will be fine? Or does it have to be 2, 4, 8, 16 GB of RAM for it to be the fastest it can be? Does it slow it down if I use 6GB of RAM?
    I can probably afford 2 more GB of RAM, but I don't want to put 6 in my system if it actually slows it down. Thanks for your help!

    Well, the system came with 4 X 512MB of Ram, so I'm
    getting 2 x 1GB of Ram in the mail. That'll give me
    6 DIMMS. I could've sworn that I had to match DIMMS
    top to bottom for it to work. But you're saying to
    put 4 DIMMS to fill up the top tray and then just
    place the remaining 2 DIMMS on the bottom tray? Am I
    understanding that correctly?
    Yes. Each riser board has two pairs of slots, numbered 0 through 3. You MUST match 0 and 1 with the same type and size of RAM if you fill those slots on a board, and you MUST match 2 and 3. Otherwise, you can put whatever pairs you want on whatever boards.
    Performance-wise, though, you get the best results by:
    1) Filling both RAM boards' 0 and 1 slots with the same size and type of RAM. Same with 2 and 3 on both boards.
    2) Placing dual rank (usually 1GB or higher capacity) RAM in 0 and 1 on both boards, as those are the slots that are usually hit first, and dual rank RAM is faster.
    If you can afford it, you might consider getting an additional 2x1GB pair of the same brand you already have. Then, you could put those 4 modules in the 0 and 1 slots on each board and the 512 modules in 2 and 3. This will put your faster dual-rank RAM in the lower numbered slots, and will make sure that module sizes are matched across boards, which will maximize performance.
    Also, I tend to have a lot of software open when I
    edit. Soundtrack, Motion, Livetype, FCP, soon CS3
    and other random software is usually open when I edit
    (like iChat and Mail). Will 4GB still be enough you
    think? I didn't mention all that in my first post,
    so I apologize.
    If you're running all of that, you might well find that extra RAM is helpful, particularly if you're processing in the background. Even if not, switching between applications will be smoother and faster with more RAM. This is another good reason to think about getting another 2x1GB pair.
    Also, this whole Ram bandwidth thing has me confused.
    If I do end up getting 6GB of Ram (4 x 1GB and 4 X
    512MB)does that slow down my Ram? Does the fact
    that I have 2 different types of DIMMS slow down my
    Ram? It's all so confusing
    A tiny little bit that you may not notice, and no.
    Right now you have 4x512MB in your 0 and 1 slots. This is pretty optimal for a setup of 512 MB modules, because having the same type of RAM paired across boards in the same numbered slots increases your memory performance.
    If you add 2x1GB in the 2 and 3 slots on one board, your existing memory (the original 4x512MB modules) will still be able to transfer data at just as high a rate as before. The 2x1GB modules in 2 and 3 will be slower because they're not paired with another 2x1GB pair on the other board, but that will only affect accesses to the data stored in those modules, which the system will tend to use last.
    What will slow down somewhat is that each request the CPU makes to transfer data from your existing 4x512MB RAM will take a bit longer to start because you have put modules in the 2 and 3 slots on one of the boards. Once it gets going, the transfer will happen at just as high a rate, but the setup time is longer by a small amount.
    Chances are, the performance improvement you'll see with the extra RAM running all those apps will totally overwhelm any such slowdown. Note that I don't know of anyone who's benchmarked a real impact of that, all the discussions I've seen about such a slowdown are just theory.
    However: those 1 GB modules in 2 and 3 will operate at a slower rate than they could because you don't have another 1 GB pair on the other board matched up with them. That's why I suggested getting a 2nd pair of 1 GB modules for the other board.
    Finally, if you do get 4x1GB, swapping those 1 GB modules into the 0 and 1 slots will ensure that they get used first, and since most 1GB modules are substantially faster than the 512 MB modules, you'll want that for best performance. However, unless you get a couple of additional 1 GB modules to fill out the set of four, I would not recommend swapping the 512 MB modules into different slots. The fact that you have a matched set of 4x512 in slots 0 and 1 is a big speed benefit if you don't get a matched 4x1GB set for your expansion.
    I hope that I haven't confused the situation...

  • X201 hangs and makes noises during audio playback

    Hello, I've a 3249CTO X201 with 8g of ram and an updated Hdd (seagate momentus xt 500gb with 4gb ssd).
    I had issues with the Hdd that where partially resolved with a seagate firmware update (the hdd kept going from standby to active mode without apparent reason and it was assumed to be a too agressive power saving mode...)
    Anyway, my issue here is the annoying chirping sound coming out the speakers during any audio playback (online audio streams, films, mp3, youtube... you name it!) anytime the Hdd is accessed.
    It even seems like everything just hangs for anywhere between 0 and 2 seconds at the exact same time.
    It only happens when on battery and using w7 pro 64bit. If I use ubuntu from my 8g sdhc card, it never occurs (even if I use chrome on both and watching the exact same youtube video). (NOTE that I did access the hdd from ubuntu to prove my point...)
    I think it is related to the power gestion of the system and I've tried a countless serie of different power management settings. It affect the frequency of the episodes (would occur more or less often) but it still happens.
    When plugged in, it never occurs....
    If it doesn't occur under ubuntu (I mean never!), it should not be hardware related, however the w7 way of managing power is different so I tend to think there IS a hardware issue (weakness) wich might be highligted by the OS.
    Anybody has a good lead on this?

    Hello Fafaneboat,
    It might be an issue with firmware of your system, I would like to suggest you please visit the below mentioned web link to download and install few drivers according to your Operating System.

  • Only Able to Connect to Google Chrome and Opera on Internet

    I'm running 10.9.5 on a Mid-2011 iMac.  The problem started last night after I uninstalled Norton Security for Mac.  Since then although I am connected to the internet through my ethernet connection, I'm unable to access the internet except through Google Chrome and Opera.  No luck with Safari, Firefox, Apple Mail App Store, iTunes or Microsoft Outlook for Mac.  My cable company, Time-Warner Cable, was unable to help.
    Here are the steps I've taken, since last night, all without success
    Backed up to 3 or 4 previous backups in Time Machine;
    Rebooted the cable modem;
    Turned off the firewall;
    Shut down my iMac and pulled out and put the ethernet cable back in and then restarted;
    Flushed DNS using the app "DNS Flusher";
    Manually changed the DNS Servers in the Advanced subsection of the Ethernet section in System Preferences;
    Started my Mac in the Safe Mode;
    Created a separate Administrative Account in the User and Group section in System Preferences
    Some of the above steps I tried more than once and at this point am out of ideas.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    I've used the X2 and its works fine with Whatsapp and Google Play.
    Also do try a different SIM card on the phone.
    Also for the Security App, you can actually add the Whatsapp and Facebook or those app that you trusted into "Trusted App".

  • MacBook Pro Slow Booting and Operating

    Hi all, I've been searching around the forum all day reading similar entries and trying some of the proposed fixes, but unfortunately none of them have helped my situation.
    Last night I was working on my machine as normal, running a program called Pro Tools for audio work, and it froze up on me.  Eventually I had to force the program to quit and was able to restart and run with success.  However, this morning when I started up the machine for a session I was taken back by how slowly it booted up.  I was even more taken back by how slow the machine was operating once booted.  This has never happened.  It is even freezing momentarily as I type this with the colored wheel spinning.
    So far I've made a backup with Time Machine, put preferences in another folder temporarily, repaired disk permissions, checked SMART status is GOOD, reset SMC, and I'm sure some other things I can't remember.
    Activity monitor is good - shows CPU @ 80% idle, and RAM is 5.53GB Free of 8 GB.
    Here is a log of my last boot.  As I understand it this may help some of you more advanced users in identifying any causes.  THANKS in advance for any advice!!!

    If you don't use Digidesign Pro Tools often you can dual boot when needed to run the software.
    Possible it's the hard drive?  If so any recommendations?  SSD???
    It's possible this is a sign of a failing drive. SSD would give your comuter a big boost. Check out the videos on how to install on this site.
    This site is recommended here by many of the posters. You might look at upgrading your RAM if you only have 4GB installed.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
    Upgrade RAM
    Open System Profiler > Hardware
    Copy the Serial number and model identifier
    Under Memory in System Profiler, you'll see how many slots and what is installed. You need matching pairs. Most likely you will have to replace RAM you have installed unless you have 4 slots and are only using 2 slots.
    Go to this page:
    http://support.apple.com/specs/
    Copy the Serial number in the "Search Tech Specs" search box. This will take you to the info on your computer.
    (Note: Apple specs often do not show how much you can add to older computers. Macsales has tested and found more RAM can be installed than indicated by Apple. If you are upgrading an older computer, I suggest checking with sales first to see how much more you can add.)
    Before you do costly repairs on an old Mac compare it to the cost of a new MacBook Air. Apple recently dropped the prices on the MacBook Airs by $100. Best Buy has been offering additional discounts on the Air. Prices start around $850.
    http://store.apple.com/us/buy-mac/macbook-air
    If you do purchase a new computer, get 8GB RAM. RAM is soldered in and you can't upgrade later.

  • Problem with New Macbook 2.2ghz and 2x2gb Sodimm Ram 800mhz

    Hi..I bought the newest Macbook white 2.2ghz Santa Rosa and I wanted to upgrade default ram up to 4 gb 800mhz.
    I bought 2 Sodimm Adata..I tried to put them toghether inside my macbook and it doesn't boot.I click power button but it only turns on sleep led.
    So I tried to put one new ram with an old 512mb ram and macbook works well with 2.5gb at 667 mhz.
    I thought one new ram was difected and I tried to put the other new 2gb ram instead the other one and macbook works fine againg at 2.5gb 667mhz.
    Why the newest macbook doesn't work with 2x2gb Sodimm 800mhz?Anyone had the same problem?It's not fault of new sodimm rams..i'm sure it's is macbook!
    DO you think with the next Leopard Update 10.5.2 they'll fix this problem?

    Did you find any speed difference between 2.5gb and 4 gb ram?
    Didn't even try it out besides seeing if the configurations were recognized. Frankly I don't think there's much of a difference between 2GB and 4GB unless there are tons of open applications.
    I'll buy this ram..do you think they'll work fine in my Santa Rosa mb?
    2GB Kingston PC5300 SODIMM-DDR2 667
    This is what they recommend as Apple-specific memory. What you wrote sounds like it should work.

    Some people have said to stay away from their ValueRAM series because the long term reliability might not be as good. Of course they have a "lifetime warranty" but that means going through the trouble of getting it replaced.

    A Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs
    The Knowledgebase article Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated refers to methods of dealing with migrating from PowerPC chips to Intel with the Migration Assistant safely. The authors of this tip have not had a chance to verify this works in all instances, or that it avoids the 10.6.1 and earlier Guest Account bug that caused account information to get deleted upon use of the Migration/Setup Assistant. However, a well backed up source that includes at least two backups of all the data that are not connected to your machine will help you avoid potential issues, should they arise. In event it does not work, follow the steps below.
    If you are migrating a PowerPC system (G3, G4, or G5) to an Intel-Mac be careful what you migrate.  Keep in mind that some items that may get transferred will not work on Intel machines and may end up causing your computer's operating system to malfunction.
    Rosetta supports "software that runs on the PowerPC G3, G4, or G5 processor that are built for Mac OS X". This excludes the items that are not universal binaries or simply will not work in Rosetta:
    Classic Environment, and subsequently any Mac OS 9 or earlier applications
    Screensavers written for the PowerPC System Preference add-ons
    All Unsanity Haxies Browser and other plug-ins
    Contextual Menu Items
    Applications which specifically require the PowerPC G5 Kernel extensions
    Java applications with JNI (PowerPC) libraries
    See also What Can Be Translated by Rosetta.
    In addition to the above you could also have problems with migrated cache files and/or cache files containing code that is incompatible.
    If you migrate a user folder that contains any of these items, you may find that your Intel-Mac is malfunctioning. It would be wise to take care when migrating your systems from a PowerPC platform to an Intel-Mac platform to assure that you do not migrate these incompatible items.
    If you have problems with applications not working, then completely uninstall said application and reinstall it from scratch. Take great care with Java applications and Java-based Peer-to-Peer applications. Many Java apps will not work on Intel-Macs as they are currently compiled. As of this time Limewire, Cabos, and Acquisition are available as universal binaries. Do not install browser plug-ins such as Flash or Shockwave from downloaded installers unless they are universal binaries. The version of OS X installed on your Intel-Mac comes with special compatible versions of Flash and Shockwave plug-ins for use with your browser.
    The same problem will exist for any hardware drivers such as mouse software unless the drivers have been compiled as universal binaries. For third-party mice the current choices are USB Overdrive or SteerMouse. Contact the developer or manufacturer of your third-party mouse software to find out when a universal binary version will be available.
    Also be careful with some backup utilities and third-party disk repair utilities. Disk Warrior, TechTool Pro , SuperDuper , and Drive Genius  work properly on Intel-Macs with Leopard.  The same caution may apply to the many "maintenance" utilities that have not yet been converted to universal binaries.  Leopard Cache Cleaner, Onyx, TinkerTool System, and Cocktail are now compatible with Leopard.
    Before migrating or installing software on your Intel-Mac check MacFixit's Rosetta Compatibility Index.

    Transferring data with Setup Assistant - Migration Assistant FAQ
    Because Migration Assistant isn't the ideal way to migrate from PowerPC to Intel Macs, using Target Disk Mode, copying the critical contents to CD and DVD, an external hard drive, or networking will work better when moving from PowerPC to Intel Macs.  The initial section below discusses Target Disk Mode.  It is then followed by a section which discusses networking with Macs that lack Firewire.
    If both computers support the use of Firewire then you can use the following instructions:
    1. Repair the hard drive and permissions using Disk Utility.
    2. Backup your data.  This is vitally important in case you make a mistake or there's some other problem.
    3. Connect a Firewire cable between your old Mac and your new Intel Mac.
    4. Startup your old Mac in Transferring files between two computers using FireWire.
    5. Startup your new Mac for the first time, go through the setup and registration screens, but do NOT migrate data over. Get to your desktop on the new Mac without migrating any new data over.
    If you are not able to use a Firewire connection (for example you have a Late 2008 MacBook that only supports USB:)
    1. Set up a local home network: Creating a small Ethernet Network.
    2. If you have a MacBook Air or Late 2008 MacBook see the following:
    MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) and MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2008)- What to do if migration is unsuccessful;
    MacBook Air- Migration Tips and Tricks;
    MacBook Air- Remote Disc, Migration, or Remote Install Mac OS X and wireless 802.11n networks.
    Copy the following items from your old Mac to the new Mac:
    In your /Home/ folder: Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites folders.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
    /Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
    Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder) /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/Calendars (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder) /Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
    Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft.
    Credit goes to Macjack for this information.
    If you need to transfer data for other applications please ask the vendor or ask in the  Discussions where specific applications store their data.
    5. Once you have transferred what you need restart the new Mac and test to make sure the contents are there for each of the applications.

  • Animation fully runs in Chrome and Opera, not in any other browsers

    All,
    I created an extensive animation with images and sounds (*.mp3 and *.wav files) using Adobe Edge Animate for a website I'm creating for a client. I've uploaded everything to the host, which is Shopify, and the animation works in Google Chrome and Opera but not in any other browsers. In other browsers, the preloader displays but when it's finished, it just shows a couple images of the animation randomly then freezes on one of the image, meaning that it doesn't animate. It just shows an image and gets stuck.
    I'm really confused and stuck on this issue. I've been trying to get it to work for a long time now and I'm running out of time. I read about the .htaccess issue in other threads and I have an e-mail out to Shopify to see if they can help me with it. Other than that, has anyone else run into this problem? Any advice?
    Thank you so much in advance!

    flasshy, kindly refrain from posting the same question more than once - you are getting assistance in your other thread. It is best to carry on with it there until you get it resolved.

  • Oracle SQL and PL/SQL interview questions.

    Can anyone forward me all Oracle SQL and PL/SQL Interview questions and answers asap.
    Many Thanks.
    Bba

    Dear Pal
    I not sure all the all answers are correct. I got one mail couple yrs back. I am just sharing mail contents. Kindly keep question and compare answers.
    1 Which is more faster - IN or EXISTS?
    EXISTS is more faster than IN because EXISTS returns a Boolean value whereas IN returns a value.
    2 Which datatype is used for storing graphics and images?
    LONG RAW data type is used for storing BLOB's (binary large objects).
    3 When do you use WHERE clause and when do you use HAVING clause?
    HAVING clause is used when you want to specify a condition for a group function and it is written after GROUP BY clause. The WHERE clause is used when you want to specify a condition for columns, single row functions except group functions and it is written before GROUP BY clause if it is used.
    4 What WHERE CURRENT OF clause does in a cursor?
    LOOPSELECT num_credits INTO v_numcredits FROM classesWHERE dept=123 and course=101;UPDATE studentsSET current_credits=current_credits+v_numcreditsWHERE CURRENT OF X;END LOOPCOMMIT;END;
    5 What should be the return type for a cursor variable.Can we use a scalar data type as return type?
    The return type for a cursor must be a record type.It can be declared explicitly as a user-defined or %ROWTYPE can be used. eg TYPE t_studentsref IS REF CURSOR RETURN students%ROWTYPE
    6 What is use of a cursor variable? How it is defined?
    A cursor variable is associated with different statements at run time, which can hold different values at run time. Static cursors can only be associated with one run time query. A cursor variable is reference type (like a pointer in C).Declaring a cursor variable:TYPE type_name IS REF CURSOR RETURN return_type type_name is the name of the reference type,return_type is a record type indicating the types of the select list that will eventually be returned by the cursor variable.
    7 What is the purpose of a cluster?
    Oracle does not allow a user to specifically locate tables, since that is a part of the function of the RDBMS. However, for the purpose of increasing performance, oracle allows a developer to create a CLUSTER. A CLUSTER provides a means for storing data from different tables together for faster retrieval than if the table placement were left to the RDBMS.
    8 What is the maximum buffer size that can be specified using the DBMS_OUTPUT.ENABLE function?
    1,000,00
    9 What is syntax for dropping a procedure and a function .Are these operations possible?
    Drop Procedure procedure_nameDrop Function function_name
    10 What is OCI. What are its uses?
    Oracle Call Interface is a method of accesing database from a 3GL program. Uses--No precompiler is required,PL/SQL blocks are executed like other DML statements. The OCI library provides· -functions to parse SQL statemets· -bind input variables· -bind output variables· -execute statements· -fetch the results
    11 What is difference between UNIQUE and PRIMARY KEY constraints?
    A table can have only one PRIMARY KEY whereas there can be any number of UNIQUE keys. The columns that compose PK are automatically define NOT NULL, whereas a column that compose a UNIQUE is not automatically defined to be mandatory must also specify the column is NOT NULL.
    12 What is difference between SUBSTR and INSTR?
    SUBSTR returns a specified portion of a string eg SUBSTR('BCDEF',4) output BCDEINSTR provides character position in which a pattern is found in a string. eg INSTR('ABC-DC-F','-',2) output 7 (2nd occurence of '-')
    13 What is difference between SQL and SQL*PLUS?
    SQL*PLUS is a command line tool where as SQL and PL/SQL language interface and reporting tool. Its a command line tool that allows user to type SQL commands to be executed directly against an Oracle database. SQL is a language used to query the relational database(DML,DCL,DDL). SQL*PLUS commands are used to format query result, Set options, Edit SQL commands and PL/SQL.
    14 What is difference between Rename and Alias?
    Rename is a permanent name given to a table or column whereas Alias is a temporary name given to a table or column which do not exist once the SQL statement is executed.
    15 What is difference between a formal and an actual parameter?
    The variables declared in the procedure and which are passed, as arguments are called actual, the parameters in the procedure declaration. Actual parameters contain the values that are passed to a procedure and receive results. Formal parameters are the placeholders for the values of actual parameters
    16 What is an UTL_FILE.What are different procedures and functions associated with it?
    UTL_FILE is a package that adds the ability to read and write to operating system files. Procedures associated with it are FCLOSE, FCLOSE_ALL and 5 procedures to output data to a file PUT, PUT_LINE, NEW_LINE, PUTF, FFLUSH.PUT, FFLUSH.PUT_LINE,FFLUSH.NEW_LINE. Functions associated with it are FOPEN, ISOPEN.
    17 What is a view ?
    A view is stored procedure based on one or more tables, it’s a virtual table.
    18 What is a pseudo column. Give some examples?
    It is a column that is not an actual column in the table.eg USER, UID, SYSDATE, ROWNUM, ROWID, NULL, AND LEVEL.
    19 What is a OUTER JOIN?
    Outer Join--Its a join condition used where you can query all the rows of one of the tables in the join condition even though they don’t satisfy the join condition.
    20 What is a cursor?
    Oracle uses work area to execute SQL statements and store processing information PL/SQL construct called a cursor lets you name a work area and access its stored information A cursor is a mechanism used to fetch more than one row in a Pl/SQl block.
    21 What is a cursor for loop?
    Cursor For Loop is a loop where oracle implicitly declares a loop variable, the loop index that of the same record type as the cursor's record.
    22 What are various privileges that a user can grant to another user?
    · SELECT· CONNECT· RESOURCES
    23 What are various constraints used in SQL?
    · NULL· NOT NULL· CHECK· DEFAULT
    24 What are ORACLE PRECOMPILERS?
    Using ORACLE PRECOMPILERS, SQL statements and PL/SQL blocks can be contained inside 3GL programs written in C,C++,COBOL,PASCAL, FORTRAN,PL/1 AND ADA.The Precompilers are known as Pro*C,Pro*Cobol,...This form of PL/SQL is known as embedded pl/sql,the language in which pl/sql is embedded is known as the host language. The prcompiler translates the embedded SQL and pl/sql ststements into calls to the precompiler runtime library.The output must be compiled and linked with this library to creater an executable.
    25 What are different Oracle database objects?
    · TABLES· VIEWS· INDEXES· SYNONYMS· SEQUENCES· TABLESPACES etc
    26 What are different modes of parameters used in functions and procedures?
    · IN· OUT· INOUT
    27 What are cursor attributes?
    · %ROWCOUNT· %NOTFOUND· %FOUND· %ISOPEN
    28 What a SELECT FOR UPDATE cursor represent. [ANSWER]SELECT......FROM......FOR......UPDATE[OF column-reference][NOWAIT] The processing done in a fetch loop modifies the rows that have been retrieved by the cursor. A convenient way of modifying the rows is done by a method with two parts: the FOR UPDATE clause in the cursor declaration, WHERE CURRENT OF CLAUSE in an UPDATE or declaration statement.
    29 There is a string 120000 12 0 .125 , how you will find the position of the decimal place?
    INSTR('120000 12 0 .125',1,'.')output 13
    30 There is a % sign in one field of a column. What will be the query to find it?
    '' Should be used before '%'.
    31 Suppose a customer table is having different columns like customer no, payments.What will be the query to select top three max payments?
    SELECT customer_no, payments from customer C1
    WHERE 3<=(SELECT COUNT(*) from customer C2
    WHERE C1.payment <= C2.payment)
    32 minvalue.sql Select the Nth lowest value from a table
    select level, min('col_name') from my_table where level = '&n' connect by prior ('col_name') <
    'col_name')
    group by level;
    Example:
    Given a table called emp with the following columns:
    -- id number
    -- name varchar2(20)
    -- sal number
    -- For the second lowest salary:
    -- select level, min(sal) from emp
    -- where level=2
    -- connect by prior sal < sal
    -- group by level
    33 maxvalue.sql Select the Nth Highest value from a table
    select level, max('col_name') from my_table where level = '&n' connect by prior ('col_name') >
    'col_name')
    group by level;
    Example:
    Given a table called emp with the following columns:
    -- id number
    -- name varchar2(20)
    -- sal number
    -- For the second highest salary:
    -- select level, max(sal) from emp
    -- where level=2
    -- connect by prior sal > sal
    -- group by level
    34 How you will avoid your query from using indexes?
    SELECT * FROM emp
    Where emp_no+' '=12345;
    i.e you have to concatenate the column name with space within codes in the where condition.
    SELECT /*+ FULL(a) */ ename, emp_no from emp
    where emp_no=1234;
    i.e using HINTS
    35 How you will avoid duplicating records in a query?
    By using DISTINCT
    36 How you were passing cursor variables in PL/SQL 2.2?
    In PL/SQL 2.2 cursor variables cannot be declared in a package.This is because the storage for a cursor variable has to be allocated using Pro*C or OCI with version 2.2, the only means of passing a cursor variable to a PL/SQL block is via bind variable or a procedure parameter.
    37 How you open and close a cursor variable.Why it is required?
    OPEN cursor variable FOR SELECT...Statement
    CLOSE cursor variable In order to associate a cursor variable with a particular SELECT statement OPEN syntax is used. In order to free the resources used for the query CLOSE statement is used.
    38 How will you delete duplicating rows from a base table?
    delete from table_name where rowid not in (select max(rowid) from table group by duplicate_values_field_name); or
    delete duplicate_values_field_name dv from table_name ta where rowid <(select min(rowid) from table_name tb where ta.dv=tb.dv);
    39 How do you find the numbert of rows in a Table ?
    A bad answer is count them (SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table_name)
    A good answer is :-
    'By generating SQL to ANALYZE TABLE table_name COUNT STATISTICS by querying Oracle System Catalogues (e.g. USER_TABLES or ALL_TABLES).
    The best answer is to refer to the utility which Oracle released which makes it unnecessary to do ANALYZE TABLE for each Table individually.
    40 Find out nth highest salary from emp table
    SELECT DISTINCT (a.sal) FROM EMP A WHERE &N = (SELECT COUNT (DISTINCT (b.sal)) FROM EMP B WHERE a.sal<=b.sal);
    For Eg:-
    Enter value for n: 2
    SAL
    3700
    41 Display the records between two range?
    select rownum, empno, ename from emp where rowid in (select rowid from emp where rownum <=&upto minus select rowid from emp where rownum<&Start);
    42 Display the number value in Words?
    SQL> select sal, (to_char(to_date(sal,'j'), 'jsp'))
    from emp;
    the output like,
    SAL (TO_CHAR(TO_DATE(SAL,'J'),'JSP'))
    800 eight hundred
    1600 one thousand six hundred
    1250 one thousand two hundred fifty
    If you want to add some text like, Rs. Three Thousand only.
    SQL> select sal "Salary ",
    (' Rs. '|| (to_char(to_date(sal,'j'), 'Jsp'))|| ' only.'))
    "Sal in Words" from emp
    Salary Sal in Words
    800 Rs. Eight Hundred only.
    1600 Rs. One Thousand Six Hundred only.
    1250 Rs. One Thousand Two Hundred Fifty only.
    43 Display Odd/ Even number of records
    Odd number of records:
    select * from emp where (rowid,1) in (select rowid, mod(rownum,2) from emp);
    Output:-
    1
    3
    5
    Even number of records:
    select * from emp where (rowid,0) in (select rowid, mod(rownum,2) from emp)
    Output:-
    2
    4
    6
    44 Difference between procedure and function.
    Functions are named PL/SQL blocks that return a value and can be called with arguments procedure a named block that can be called with parameter. A procedure all is a PL/SQL statement by itself, while a Function call is called as part of an expression.
    45 Difference between NO DATA FOUND and %NOTFOUND
    NO DATA FOUND is an exception raised only for the SELECT....INTO statements when the where clause of the querydoes not match any rows. When the where clause of the explicit cursor does not match any rows the %NOTFOUND attribute is set to TRUE instead.
    46 Difference between database triggers and form triggers?
    Data base trigger(DBT) fires when a DML operation is performed on a data base table. Form trigger(FT) Fires when user presses a key or navigates between fields on the screen
    Can be row level or statement level No distinction between row level and statement level.
    Can manipulate data stored in Oracle tables via SQL Can manipulate data in Oracle tables as well as variables in forms.
    Can be fired from any session executing the triggering DML statements. Can be fired only from the form that define the trigger.
    Can cause other database triggers to fire.Can cause other database triggers to fire, but not other form triggers.
    47 Difference between an implicit & an explicit cursor.
    PL/SQL declares a cursor implicitly for all SQL data manipulation statements, including quries that return only one row. However,queries that return more than one row you must declare an explicit cursor or use a cursor FOR loop.
    Explicit cursor is a cursor in which the cursor name is explicitly assigned to a SELECT statement via the CURSOR...IS statement. An implicit cursor is used for all SQL statements Declare, Open, Fetch, Close. An explicit cursors are used to process multirow SELECT statements An implicit cursor is used to process INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE and single row SELECT. .INTO statements.
    48 Can you use a commit statement within a database trigger?
    No.
    49 Can the default values be assigned to actual parameters?
    Yes
    50 Can cursor variables be stored in PL/SQL tables.If yes how. If not why?
    No, a cursor variable points a row which cannot be stored in a two-dimensional PL/SQL table.
    51 Can a primary key contain more than one columns?
    Yes
    52 Can a function take OUT parameters. If not why?
    No. A function has to return a value,an OUT parameter cannot return a value.
    53 What are various joins used while writing SUBQUERIES?
    Self join-Its a join foreign key of a table references the same table. Outer Join--Its a join condition used where One can query all the rows of one of the tables in the join condition even though they don't satisfy the join condition.
    Equi-join--Its a join condition that retrieves rows from one or more tables in which one or more columns in one table are equal to one or more columns in the second table.
    54 Differentiate between TRUNCATE and DELETE
    TRUNCATE deletes much faster than DELETE
    TRUNCATE
    DELETE
    It is a DDL statement It is a DML statement
    It is a one way trip,cannot ROLLBACK One can Rollback
    Doesn't have selective features (where clause) Has
    Doesn't fire database triggers Does
    It requires disabling of referential constraints. Does not require
    1 What is PL/SQL ?
    PL/SQL is a procedural language that has both interactive SQL and procedural programming language constructs such as iteration, conditional branching.
    2 Write the order of precedence for validation of a column in a table ?
    I. done using Database triggers.
    ii. done using Integarity Constraints.
    I & ii.
    Exception :
    3 Where the Pre_defined_exceptions are stored ?
    In the standard package.
    Procedures, Functions & Packages ;
    4 What are % TYPE and % ROWTYPE ? What are the advantages of using these over datatypes?
    % TYPE provides the data type of a variable or a database column to that variable.
    % ROWTYPE provides the record type that represents a entire row of a table or view or columns selected in the cursor.
    The advantages are : I. Need not know about variable's data type
    ii. If the database definition of a column in a table changes, the data type of a variable changes accordingly.
    5 What will happen after commit statement ?
    Cursor C1 is
    Select empno,
    ename from emp;
    Begin
    open C1; loop
    Fetch C1 into
    eno.ename;
    Exit When
    C1 %notfound;-----
    commit;
    end loop;
    end;
    The cursor having query as SELECT .... FOR UPDATE gets closed after COMMIT/ROLLBACK.
    The cursor having query as SELECT.... does not get closed even after COMMIT/ROLLBACK.
    6 What is the basic structure of PL/SQL ?
    PL/SQL uses block structure as its basic structure. Anonymous blocks or nested blocks can be used in PL/SQL.
    7 What is Raise_application_error ?
    Raise_application_error is a procedure of package DBMS_STANDARD which allows to issue an user_defined error messages from stored sub-program or database trigger.
    8 What is Pragma EXECPTION_INIT ? Explain the usage ?
    The PRAGMA EXECPTION_INIT tells the complier to associate an exception with an oracle error. To get an error message of a specific oracle error.
    e.g. PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT (exception name, oracle error number)
    9 What is PL/SQL table ?
    Objects of type TABLE are called "PL/SQL tables", which are modeled as (but not the same as) database tables, PL/SQL tables use a primary PL/SQL tables can have one column and a primary key.
    Cursors
    10 What is Overloading of procedures ?
    The Same procedure name is repeated with parameters of different datatypes and parameters in different positions, varying number of parameters is called overloading of procedures.
    e.g. DBMS_OUTPUT put_line
    What is a package ? What are the advantages of packages ?
    11 What is difference between a PROCEDURE & FUNCTION ?
    A FUNCTION is always returns a value using the return statement.
    A PROCEDURE may return one or more values through parameters or may not return at all.
    12 What is difference between a Cursor declared in a procedure and Cursor declared in a package specification ?
    A cursor declared in a package specification is global and can be accessed by other procedures or procedures in a package.
    A cursor declared in a procedure is local to the procedure that can not be accessed by other procedures.
    13 What is difference between % ROWTYPE and TYPE RECORD ?
    % ROWTYPE is to be used whenever query returns a entire row of a table or view.
    TYPE rec RECORD is to be used whenever query returns columns of different
    table or views and variables.
    E.g. TYPE r_emp is RECORD (eno emp.empno% type,ename emp ename %type
    e_rec emp% ROWTYPE
    cursor c1 is select empno,deptno from emp;
    e_rec c1 %ROWTYPE.
    14 What is an Exception ? What are types of Exception ?
    Exception is the error handling part of PL/SQL block. The types are Predefined and user defined. Some of Predefined exceptions are.
    CURSOR_ALREADY_OPEN
    DUP_VAL_ON_INDEX
    NO_DATA_FOUND
    TOO_MANY_ROWS
    INVALID_CURSOR
    INVALID_NUMBER
    LOGON_DENIED
    NOT_LOGGED_ON
    PROGRAM-ERROR
    STORAGE_ERROR
    TIMEOUT_ON_RESOURCE
    VALUE_ERROR
    ZERO_DIVIDE
    OTHERS.
    15 What is a stored procedure ?
    A stored procedure is a sequence of statements that perform specific function.
    16 What is a database trigger ? Name some usages of database trigger ?
    Database trigger is stored PL/SQL program unit associated with a specific database table. Usages are Audit data modifications, Log events transparently, Enforce complex business rules Derive column values automatically, Implement complex security authorizations. Maintain replicate tables.
    17 What is a cursor for loop ?
    Cursor for loop implicitly declares %ROWTYPE as loop index,opens a cursor, fetches rows of values from active set into fields in the record and closes
    when all the records have been processed.
    eg. FOR emp_rec IN C1 LOOP
    salary_total := salary_total +emp_rec sal;
    END LOOP;
    18 What is a cursor ? Why Cursor is required ?
    Cursor is a named private SQL area from where information can be accessed. Cursors are required to process rows individually for queries returning multiple rows.
    19 What happens if a procedure that updates a column of table X is called in a database trigger of the same table ?
    Mutation of table occurs.
    20 What are two virtual tables available during database trigger execution ?
    The table columns are referred as OLD.column_name and NEW.column_name.
    For triggers related to INSERT only NEW.column_name values only available.
    For triggers related to UPDATE only OLD.column_name NEW.column_name values only available.
    For triggers related to DELETE only OLD.column_name values only available.
    21 What are two parts of package ?
    The two parts of package are PACKAGE SPECIFICATION & PACKAGE BODY.
    Package Specification contains declarations that are global to the packages and local to the schema.
    Package Body contains actual procedures and local declaration of the procedures and cursor declarations.
    22 What are the two parts of a procedure ?
    Procedure Specification and Procedure Body.
    23 What are the return values of functions SQLCODE and SQLERRM ?
    SQLCODE returns the latest code of the error that has occurred.
    SQLERRM returns the relevant error message of the SQLCODE.

    In the standard package.
    Procedures, Functions & Packages ;
    Cursor C1 is
    Select empno,
    ename from emp;
    Begin
    open C1; loop
    Fetch C1 into
    eno.ename;
    Exit When
    C1 %notfound;-----
    commit;
    end loop;
    end;
    The cursor having query as SELECT .... FOR UPDATE gets closed after COMMIT/ROLLBACK.
    The cursor having query as SELECT.... does not get closed even after COMMIT/ROLLBACK.

    E.g. TYPE r_emp is RECORD (eno emp.empno% type,ename emp ename %type
    e_rec emp% ROWTYPE
    cursor c1 is select empno,deptno from emp;
    e_rec c1 %ROWTYPE.

    17 What is a cursor for loop ?
    Cursor for loop implicitly declares %ROWTYPE as loop index,opens a cursor, fetches rows of values from active set into fields in the record and closes
    when all the records have been processed.
    eg. FOR emp_rec IN C1 LOOP
    salary_total := salary_total +emp_rec sal;
    END LOOP;

    Last Update: September 06, 2004
    1 What are the different types of PL/SQL program units that can be defined and stored in ORACLE database ?
    Procedures and Functions,Packages and Database Triggers.
    2 What are the differences between Database Trigger and Integrity constraints ?
    A declarative integrity constraint is a statement about the database that is always true. A constraint applies to existing data in the table and any statement that manipulates the table.
    A trigger does not apply to data loaded before the definition of the trigger, therefore, it does not guarantee all data in a table conforms to the rules established by an associated trigger.
    A trigger can be used to enforce transitional constraints where as a declarative integrity constraint cannot be used.
    3 What is difference between Procedures and Functions ?
    A Function returns a value to the caller where as a Procedure does not.
    4 What is Database Trigger ?
    A Database Trigger is procedure (set of SQL and PL/SQL statements) that is automatically executed as a result of an insert in,update to, or delete from a table.
    5 What is a Procedure ?
    A Procedure consist of a set of SQL and PL/SQL statements that are grouped together as a unit to solve a specific problem or perform a set of related tasks.
    6 What is a Package ?
    A Package is a collection of related procedures, functions, variables and other package constructs together as a unit in the database.
    7 What are the uses of Database Trigger ?
    Database triggers can be used to automatic data generation, audit data modifications, enforce complex Integrity constraints, and customize complex security authorizations.
    8 What are the advantages of having a Package ?
    Increased functionality (for example,global package variables can be declared and used by any proecdure in the package) and performance (for example all objects of the package are parsed compiled, and loaded into memory once)
    1 With which function of summary item is the compute at options required?
    percentage of total functions.
    2 Why is it preferable to create a fewer no. of queries in the data model?
    Because for each query, report has to open a separate cursor and has to rebind, execute and fetch data.
    3 Why is a Where clause faster than a group filter or a format trigger?
    Because, in a where clause the condition is applied during data retrieval than after retrieving the data.
    4 Which parameter can be used to set read level consistency across multiple queries?
    Read only.
    5 Which of the two views should objects according to possession?
    view by structure.
    6 Which of the above methods is the faster method?
    performing the calculation in the query is faster.
    7 Where is the external query executed at the client or the server?
    At the server.
    8 Where is a procedure return in an external pl/sql library executed at the client or at the server?
    At the client.
    9 When do you use data parameter type?
    When the value of a data parameter being passed to a called product is always the name of the record group defined in the current form. Data parameters are used to pass data to produts invoked with the run_product built-in subprogram.
    10 When a form is invoked with call_form, Does oracle forms issues a save point?
    Yes
    11 What are the important difference between property clause and visual attributes?
    Named visual attributes differ only font, color & pattern attributes, property clauses can contain this and any other properties. You can change the appearance of objects at run time by changing the named visual attributes programmatically , property clause assignments cannot be changed programmatically. When an object is inheriting from both a property clause and named visual attribute, the named visual attribute settings take precedence, and any visual attribute properties in the class are ignored.
    12 What use of command line parameter cmd file?
    It is a command line argument that allows you to specify a file that contain a set of arguments for r20run.
    13 What is WHEN-Database-record trigger?
    Fires when oracle forms first marks a record as an insert or an update. The trigger fires as soon as oracle forms determines through validation that the record should be processed by the next post or commit as an insert or update. c generally occurs only when the operators modifies the first item in the record, and after the operator attempts to navigate out of the item.
    14 What is use of term?
    The term file which key is correspond to which oracle report functions.

    Using transactional triggers we can control or modify the default functionality of the oracle forms.
    17 What is the use of place holder column?
    A placeholder column is used to hold calculated values at a specified place rather than allowing is to appear in the actual row where it has to appear.
    18 What is the use of image_zoom built-in?
    To manipulate images in image items.
    19 What is the use of hidden column?
    A hidden column is used to when a column has to embed into boilerplate text.
    20 What is the use of break group?
    A break group is used to display one record for one group ones. While multiple related records in other group can be displayed.
    21 What is the remove on exit property?
    For a modelless window, it determines whether oracle forms hides the window automatically when the operators navigates to an item in the another window.
    22 What is the purpose of the product order option in the column property sheet?
    To specify the order of individual group evaluation in a cross products.
    23 What is the maximum no of chars the parameter can store?
    The maximum no of chars the parameter can store is only valid for char parameters, which can be upto 64K. No parameters default to 23Bytes and Date parameter default to 7Bytes.
    24 What is the main diff. bet. Reports 2.0 & Reports 2.5?
    Report 2.5 is object oriented.
    25 What is the frame & repeating frame?
    A frame is a holder for a group of fields. A repeating frame is used to display a set of records when the no. of records that are to displayed is not known before.
    26 What is the difference between OLE Server & Ole Container?
    An Ole server application creates ole Objects that are embedded or linked in ole Containers ex. Ole servers are ms_word & ms_excel. OLE containers provide a place to store, display and manipulate objects that are created by ole server applications. Ex. oracle forms is an example of an ole Container.
    27 What is the difference between object embedding & linking in Oracle forms?
    In Oracle forms, Embedded objects become part of the form module, and linked objects are references from a form module to a linked source file.
    28 What is the difference between boiler plat images and image items?
    Boiler plate Images are static images (Either vector or bit map) that you import from the file system or database to use a graphical elements in your form, such as company logos and maps. Image items are special types of interface controls that store and display either vector or bitmap images. Like other items that store values, image items can be either base table items(items that relate directly to database columns) or control items. The definition of an image item is stored as part of the form module FMB and FMX files, but no image file is actually associated with an image item until the item is populate at run time.
    29 What is the difference between $$DATE$$ & $$DBDATE$$ $$DBDATE$$ retrieves the current database date $$date$$ retrieves the current operating system date.
    30 What is the diff. when Flex mode is mode on and when it is off?
    When flex mode is on, reports automatically resizes the parent when the child is resized.
    31 What is the diff. when confine mode is on and when it is off?
    When confine mode is on, an object cannot be moved outside its parent in the layout.
    32 What is the diff. bet. setting up of parameters in reports 2.0 reports 2.5?
    LOVs can be attached to parameters in the reports 2.5 parameter form.
    33 What is the advantage of the library?
    Libraries provide a convenient means of storing client-side program units and sharing them among multiple applications. Once you create a library, you can attach it to any other form, menu, or library modules. When you can call library program units from triggers menu items commands and user named routine, you write in the modules to which you have attach the library. When a library attaches another library, program units in the first library can reference program units in the attached library. Library support dynamic loading-that is library program units are loaded into an application only when needed. This can significantly reduce the run-time memory requirements of applications.
    34 What is term?
    The term is terminal definition file that describes the terminal form which you are using r20run.
    35 What is system.coordination_operation?
    It represents the coordination causing event that occur on the master block in master-detail relation.
    36 What is synchronize?
    It is a terminal screen with the internal state of the form. It updates the screen display to reflect the information that oracle forms has in its internal representation of the screen.
    37 What is strip sources generate options?
    Removes the source code from the library file and generates a library files that contains only pcode. The resulting file can be used for final deployment, but can not be subsequently edited in the designer. ex. f45gen module=old_lib.pll userid=scott/tiger strip_source YES output_file
    38 What is relation between the window and canvas views?
    Canvas views are the back ground objects on which you place the interface items (Text items), check boxes, radio groups etc.,) and boilerplate objects (boxes, lines, images etc.,) that operators interact with us they run your form . Each canvas views displayed in a window.
    39 What is pop list?
    The pop list style list item appears initially as a single field (similar to a text item field). When the operator selects the list icon, a list of available choices appears.
    40 What is new_form built-in?
    When one form invokes another form by executing new_form oracle form exits the first form and releases its memory before loading the new form calling new form completely replace the first with the second. If there are changes pending in the first form, the operator will be prompted to save them before the new form is loaded.
    41 What is lexical reference? How can it be created?
    Lexical reference is place_holder for text that can be embedded in a sql statements. A lexical reference can be created using & before the column or parameter name.
    42 What is forms_DDL?
    Issues dynamic Sql statements at run time, including server side pl/SQl and DDL
    43 What is difference between open_form and call_form?
    when one form invokes another form by executing open_form the first form remains displayed, and operators can navigate between the forms as desired. when one form invokes another form by executing call_form, the called form is modal with respect to the calling form. That is, any windows that belong to the calling form are disabled, and operators cannot navigate to them until they first exit the called form.
    44 What is bind reference and how can it be created?
    Bind reference are used to replace the single value in sql, pl/sql statements a bind reference can be created using a (:) before a column or a parameter name.
    45 What is an user exit used for?
    A way in which to pass control (and possibly arguments ) form Oracle report to another Oracle products of 3 GL and then return control ( and ) back to Oracle reports.
    46 What is an OLE?
    Object Linking & Embedding provides you with the capability to integrate objects from many Ms-Windows applications into a single compound document creating integrated applications enables you to use the features form .
    47 What is an object group?
    An object group is a container for a group of objects; you define an object group when you want to package related objects, so that you copy or reference them in other modules.
    48 What is an anchoring object & what is its use?
    An anchoring object is a print condition object which used to explicitly or implicitly anchor other objects to itself.
    49 What is a User_exit?
    Calls the user exit named in the user_exit_string. Invokes a 3Gl program by name which has been properly linked into your current oracle forms executable.
    50 What is a timer?
    Timer is an "internal time clock" that you can programmatically create to perform an action each time the timer expires.
    51 What is a Text_io Package?
    It allows you to read and write information to a file in the file system.
    52 What is a text list?
    The text list style list item appears as a rectangular box which displays the fixed number of values. When the text list contains values that can not be displayed, a vertical scroll bar appears, allowing the operator to view and select undisplayed values.
    53 What is a property clause?
    A property clause is a named object that contains a list of properties and their settings. Once you create a property clause you can base other object on it. An object based on a property can inherit the setting of any property in the clause that makes sense for that object.
    54 What is a physical page ? & What is a logical page ?

    A library is a collection of subprograms including user named procedures, functions and packages.
    56 What is a difference between pre-select and pre-query?
    Fires during the execute query and count query processing after oracle forms constructs the select statement to be issued, but before the statement is actually issued. The pre-query trigger fires just before oracle forms issues the select statement to the database after the operator as define the example records by entering the query criteria in enter query mode. Pre-query trigger fires before pre-select trigger.
    57 What is a combo box?
    A combo box style list item combines the features found in list and text item. Unlike the pop list or the text list style list items, the combo box style list item will both display fixed values and accept one operator entered value.
    58 What does the term panel refer to with regard to pages?
    A panel is the no. of physical pages needed to print one logical page.

  • How many partitions and operating systems can you line up in BootCamp?

    A quick question, hopefully with a quick answer.
    How many partitions and operating systems can you line up in BootCamp?
    Are we limited to just 2, or can we have more?
    Say, for example, Mac, Win XP, Win Vista and Linux maybe?
    Thanks in advance.

    VPC does not run on Intel Macs. If you wish to use virtualization on an Intel Mac see this:
    Windows on Intel Macs
    There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak 2 or Vista. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not yet fully developed for the Mac - some features are not yet implemented - but it does work otherwise.
    6. Last is Q. Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs. It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
    Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system.
    See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion.
    Boot Camp is only available with Leopard. The Boot Camp Beta that was used with Tiger has expired and is no longer available for use. So contrary to the other poster's comment, Boot Camp isn't truly "free." You must purchase Leopard to get it.
    You can upgrade XP to Vista without having to make any changes to the Boot Camp partition. Vista can either perform an upgrade install or erase the Windows volume before installing Vista. You don't need to do anything to change the partition via Boot Camp. However, if you need to enlarge the partition, then the only way that can be done is to first use Boot Camp to remove the partition. Then use Boot Camp to make a new, larger partition. All data from the Windows partition will be lost.

  • MacBook Pro and Dell N5010 Ram Swap?

    Hi guys I don't know much about this subject so any help would be great.
    I have a Macbook Pro 13 inch with Lion, 4GB of Ram which is basically the early 2011 model
    and my mom wanted to buy a laptop so she bought a Dell N5010 with Windows 7 and 8GB of ram.
    I looked up my type of ram and its DDR3 which is also the same type my moms Dell uses, thing is she doesn't need that much ram since all she does is email, surf the web, and things like that. So, I asked her if she was ok with me switching the ram with each other and she said it was fine with her.
    My question is if this is possible? I know that if we change enough components on a desktop, Windows won't recognize the system and have us reactivate/ reinstall it but since its just a ram swap will there be any complications?
    The extra ram would be great since I'm always rendering our home movies and (attempting) to make iOS games on my Macbook Pro, rather than just surfing the web and whatnot.
    Thanks for any help guys!!

    if they are ddr3 and support the same pins, I don't see why it would hurt to try. who made your mom's ram? if it's samsung, you're almost golden as long as the pins match. When you have both sticks out, compare their connectors (the gold part along the edge) and see if they match exactly.
    Having said that, I would look up the make and model and google the model of the ram (comany name ddr3) and macbookpro.

  • VERY SPECIFIC RAM QUESTION (not answered in prior topics)

    I have a very specific RAM question. I've been pouring through the discussions and I see TONS of stuff about the proper way to upgrade RAM. I've done that before without incident, but here is my dilemma:
    I'm using the 3.0Ghz, 8-core, MP currently with 8GB of the 667Mhz RAM (8x1GB). The memory is all matched from OWC and I have had no problems.
    I just bought 16GB of new RAM from OWC (4x4GB).
    I'm going to remove all 8 of the current 1GB DIMM's, and place two of the 4GB DIMM's in slots 1 & 2 on riser A, and two of the 4GB DIMM's in slots 1 & 2 on riser B. That will give me 16GB's in matched pairs on slots 1 & 2 of both riser A and B.
    My question is this: Should I install two of my old 1GB DIMM's in slots 3/4 of riser A, and two of the old 1GB DIMM's in slots 3/4 of riser B (for a total of 20GB's)?
    I've read that having all 8 slots filled = better performance but I'm not sure the mix of 4GB DIMM's and 1GB DIMM's.
    Any Thoughts?
    Thanks So Much,
    Tom

    Optimally you want matched quads in each Riser. However, Bare Feats did some memory benchmarks that you might wish to read regarding memory performance versus different configurations. As for proper installation see the following:
