X201 Laptop Causes Wireless Network to Crash

I'm running Windows 7 on an X201 Laptop.  I am using a wifi internet connection and Access Connections.
After the laptop has booted it finds the wireless access point, but then crashes the wireless router and the high speed modem.
I have to turn off my desktop, turn off and reboot the wireless modem and the high speed modem, and reboot the desktop.
This happens about 80% of the time, but periodically the connection works properly.
I have tried removing the link to the wifi in both Access Connections and in Windows, and re-installing through Access Connections, but the problem persists.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion Bill.
The wireless router seems to work  fine for other connections, which include a Mac, Apple TV, a PS3, an ipad and an old Dell laptop, often working at the same time.  Various visitors have connected with an HP laptop, and an itouch.
The only computer that causes the problem is the Thinkpad X201.
I should have said the the desktop mentioned in my original post (an HP Pavillion) is hardwired to the internet high speed modem through the router.
The router is a Linksys WRT 110 which apparently offers near 802.11n throughput.

  • EOS WFT software causing wireless network failure.

    I have set up the Canon WFT pairing software and the EOS utilities on my windows 8 laptop computer.
    Normally when connecting my camera wirelessly to my computer I use a TP-Link portable hub to which nothing else is connected and there is no internet connected, this works fine as I can use it easily anywhere I go without having to set up the WFT settings on the camera again for different wireless hubs ip addresses etc.
    When I am not using the WFT software my computer will be connected to a different wireless hub for internet access and connection to other devices I live between two houses in different locations each has it's own virgin high speed wireless broadband  internet system.
    The WFT Pairing software starts automatically when I start my computer whether or not I intend to use it.
    Since installing the WFT pairing software I noticed my laptop had poor performance connecting to the internet via the wireless internet hubs with frequent disconnections and that other devices on the same wireless network also had problems and lost their connections. This also occurs when I visit friends when I use their networks.
    At first I did not connect this issue to the pairing software, however it became evident it was this laptop causing the problem because it occures in every location I connected to a wireless hub.
    I have now conclusively proved that after stopping the WFT pairing software in Windows Task Manager all devices connected to the wireless hub function normally again in all locations restart the pairing software and they will all fail again.
    Is this a known problem? and is there a solution for it?

    Hi RobertTheFat
    Yes thats clear, Since I found it was the cause of the problem I have it's automatic start up disabled and I check with task manager to make sure it is not running when not using the WFT, then when I need it I start it manually but it doesn't change the fact that it causes the network problem when it is needed and running.
    I have a suspicion that either Windows 8 or Norton 360 might be preventing it from detecting the camera and that it is constantly poling the network trying to find the camera, this could be the reason the network goes down.
    An interesting fact is that I do not have any problem accessing anything in the house such as the NAS drive or printer or other computers when it is running, but it pulls down the external connections so i cannot get reliable internet connections which makes it difficult to get any remote help.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8610 does not connect to laptop via wireless network

    I have a new HP Officejet Pro 8610. It is connected wirelessly to my home network. My laptop, running Windows 7, is connected to the same network, but cannot find the printer. I have tried turning everything off and resetting the router, but still have the same issue - my laptop cannot find the printer.
    I am able to email a document from my laptop to the printer using the printer's email address.
    What can I do to get my laptop to find the printer on the wireless network?

    Hey!
    This is an issue with your wireless, you either have to get your router looked at you are looking at relocating your printer and your router so they are closer together. If you are able to connect all of your devices to the network fine when you are in the same room; Call HP Technical Phone Support.
    If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
    HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check.
    I hope this helps.

  • Connecting Laptop to Wireless Network

    I have been trying for days to connect my laptop to my Wireless Home Network on Windows XP. Verizon sent a new modem router. - DLINK 2750B. It works just fine with DESKTOP and at other rooms wired for CAT5.
    However, can't get laptop setup to work. Tried all avenues on Verizon website - none work. I am following the manual steps and get as far as VIEW AVAILABLE WIRELESS NETWORKS. Neighbors ones show up but ours DOES NOT. Do I have to do anything with the DLINK before it can be recognized??

    you needto login to the dlink and chanhe the wireless channel and try to connect again.
    only use channels 1, 6 & 11
    open abrowser and go to http://192.168.1.1
    If you didn't change your gateway's default password when you set up your router, it may have been changed to your gateway router's serial number to provide greater security.  You can find your router's serial number on a label affixed to the bottom or back of your gateway.

  • Problem connecting laptop to wireless network

    Greetings.
    I recently installed ArchLinux on my asus N80Vb laptop.  I downloaded the .iso for the core installation and burn a CD which I used to install.  Checksums were a match.  I followed instructions on the installation guide and everything seems to have been a success.  I installed all packages which seemed to have anything to
    do with wireless networking.
    The only problem is that I am having difficulty getting my laptop to connect to the wireless network in the house.
    The network wireless interface in the laptop is an Intel WiFi Link 5100.  I am assuming the driver is loading properly: output from dmesg | tail is:
    iwlagn 0000:03:00.0: Unable to find TIM Element in beacon
    wlan0: Selected IBSS BSSID 2e:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx based on configured SSID
    iwlagn 0000:03:00.0: Unable to find TIM Element in beacon
    (the x's in the second line are because I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to post the actual numbers).
    I followed the manual wireless setup process <a href="https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless_Setup#Part_II:_Wireless_management">here</a> to try to establish a connection and couldn't connect: trying to ping www.google.com gave an unknown host error.
    I have netcfg and created a configuration file with the following:
    CONNECTION='wireless'
    DESCRIPTION='wireless internet connection
    INTERFACE='wlan0'
    SCAN='yes'
    SECURITY='none'
    ESSID='mynetwork'
    IP='dhcp'
    CHANNEL='6'
    When trying to use netcfg I get "Wireless network "mynetwork" not present.   [FAIL]
    Using iwlist doesn't show <i>mynetwork</i> either, but I know its there because all the PCs, a wii and another laptop are all connected to it without any problems.
    (I added CHANNEL='6' because my PC running Fedora shows that it is connected to mynetwork on channel 6, so I thought maybe...).
    Connecting via a wired connection is also a possibility but would prefer not to.
    Any suggestions?
    Regards,
    Topaz

  • Windows XP laptop sees wireless network but won't connect

    I set up a wireless network on my airport extreme using my MacBook. The McBook runs great on the wireless network. My old Dell laptop running Windows XP sees the wireless network I created (with full signal strength) but every time I hit "connect" I get the following error message, "Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again." When I referesh the list, the wireless network is still there, and i still cannot connect, getting the same error message.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello apetera. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    Per chance are you using WEP for your wireless encryption?
    If so, one of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
    In order to make things easier, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling the use of simple easy to remember WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys. The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a non-Apple client and vice versa.

  • Playstation 3 Wireless Network Enable Crashes WRT54G Wireless Router

    I am trying to set up my wireless connection on my Playstation 3 via my WRT54G wireless router.  Whenever I start at the beginning and select Enable for Wireless Connection, the wired end of my router which is attached to my cable modem crashes.  My host wired PC loses it internet connection.  As I proceed with my Playstation 3 Wireless Network setup, the PS3 can still wirelessly see my router.  I do an automatic configuration, but the router is unable to assign a TCP/IP address to the PS3.  My main problem is that the PS#crashes my router the moment I even enable the wireless connection.  Any ideas?

    I don’t think of anything else that a Firmware on this router. Download the latest firmware for this from http://www.linksys.com/download and Upgrade that to your router. Reset and reconfigure it, reduce the MTU to 1365, assign a static IP on PS3 and forward the ports needed by PS3 for this IP address. Now you should able to connect to this router wirelessly.

  • Unable to connect laptop to wireless network

    My MacBook Pro will not connect to my wireless network, but my iPad does so I know it must be a problem with my computer rather than the network. Any suggestions?
    I'm not sure if there is some obscure setting that I need to change.

    Give us more information, please.
    Is your wireless network supplied by your ISP, your landlord, your own router, or something else?
    What can you tell us about the settings on your wireless network? (Not the passwords.)
    Did this ever work, or is this the first time you have tried to connect the MBP to this wireless network?
    What model/year MBP is this? It has to be somewhat old if it is running Snow Leopard (10.6.8) as per your profile.

  • How to access Files / Folders on Mac from XP Laptop Using wireless network?

    Hello, I have successfully set up my iMac and XP laptop to access the web via a wireless router. However I am wondering if there is a way for me to wirelessly connect to my files and folders on the Mac from the XP laptop? I am going nuts trying to figure this out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    You can find lots of useful information on iFelix's page "Sharing files between a Windows XP PC and a Mac running OS 10.4.x".
    If the folder you want to share isn't viaible, you can use SharePoints to make any folder available to share.

  • HP Photosmart 5510d can't be printed to by 2 laptops over wireless network

    Computer 1 - Vista 32 Pro
    Computer 2 - Win 7 64 Premium
    Both have current drivers. Both  can find the printer. Both can cancel print queue jobs.
    Both get the "The printer is not connected" or "printer is not online" error.
    I've checked the IP addy: 192.168.1.101
    There is a desktop system that is able to print to the printer - it is located directly next to the printer, but prints wirelessly. I moved one of the systems into the same room as the printer; no dice. We've even had the "next door" computer wake up - and the printer still doesn't do diddly in regards to the laptop.
    At least one system is able to access the Printer Assistant - and see what current ink levels are, which match what the printer self-page spits out. (I haven't tested it w/ the other laptop).
    Help?

    Set a static IP in the printer outside the DHCP range of your router.  Use a fixed channel like 1,6 or 11, never 'auto'.  Now try.

  • Printing from pc laptop over wireless network

    Hi,
    I have been successful getting my mac to see my wife's xp pro laptop and the laptop sees the mac. I installed the canon i960 driver on the laptop but can't get it to print.
    If I open the i960 q on the mac and send a file from the laptop nothing happens. If i send a file from the mac it shows up. Withe the q on hold and the mac file showing I send a file from the laptop and it shows in the q. If i resume printing the mac file will print but the laptop file just disappears.
    If there is nothing in the q on the mac side the laptop file will not show up. when it does show up along with the mac file it does not print.
    I can see the q on the lap top as on the the mac. I also get a general message that the laptop cannot communicate with the printer
    Driver problem?
    baffles me.
    thanks

    Have a look at this guide if you are running 10.4

    otherwise

    Important note:
    If the printer attached to the Mac is a black and white printer you need to use the Apple Laserwriter driver regardless of which printer you actually have.
    So if you have a black and white laser printer, you should use the Apple Laserwriter driver.
    If the printer attached is a colour printer use the Apple Color Laserwriter driver regardless of which printer you actually have.
    So if you have a colour inkjet printer, you should use the Apple Color Laserwriter driver.

    Followed the installation procedure  from HP laptop with successful diagnostic results but could not get it to work from 'print' instruction from laptop.Checking the computer settings it shows an HPenvy 5530 driver (offline) with my two jobs requested today in a queue.Where have I gone wrong?

    Hey , Welcome to the HP forums! I hope you enjoy your stay here. I understand you have installed an Envy 4507 on your Windows 8 PC and are unable to print. I can certainly help with that. First we'll need to refresh some connections.Turn the printer off.While the printer is turned off unplug your router for one minute.Once you have internet connection again turn the printer on.Now we'll need to clear that old print queue and add a new one.Close all of the programs you have open.Open your Control Panel.Go to Printers and Scanners.In this window right click on the Envy 5530.Left click on Remove Device.Repeat for any other printers listed.Now click on Add a Printer at the top.Select your printer and click on next.Follow the pompts to install the driver.Try printing.Let me know how this works. If it helps you then please click on Accept as Solution below my post.
    I hope this helps and I hope you have a great week!

  • My iMac wireless / network preferences crashing / freezing / not working

    My imac recently began to have trouble connecting to my home wifi. This started last month unexpectedly.
    Some of the issues I am dealing with:
    I am able to connect to any wifi. I can navigate to router settings (192.168.x.xxx). I am running Lion 10.7.
    Anytime I try to navigate to System Preferences > Network, the network window goes unresponsive and I am unable to see / edit network settings.
    I have moved system preference plisk files to set my preferences to default. This has not helped much (by much, I mean it got me to be able to see network options but it freezes instantly - the network window)
    I cannot get internet access.
    I did a disk utility repair and found a corrupted HD. I ran the permission repair and disk repair utility after I reboot the mac with command+r.
    While in a Command+R boot environment you have an option to open a safari browser. This browser is able to connect to the internet and access all internet activity.
    Does anyone have any advice for me?

    Anytime I try to navigate to System Preferences > Network, the network window goes unresponsive and I am unable to see / edit network settings.

    It's difficult to say why your Time Capsule is exhibiting this behavior, and it is definitely unexpected.
