X201: Random Shutdown; Screen goes off

Hi!
My Screen just went off (it quickly reduced it's brightness level and then was completly off), but the notebook was still up and running. I wasn't using the notebook at all when this happened!
WLAN, bluetooth, the third led next to those two (whatever it is ) battery and the led with a circled 'Z' where up. HD led blinked every now and then.
pressing uppercase to force the uppercase-led to go on didn't work (i wanted to test if the notebook still gets input), but fn + numlock did work (this led went on).
No other keys showed any reaction (e.g. fn + f4 for sleep). i started to film it with my mobile phone and after ~5 minutes all LEDs went off and the notebook was off too.
now i am completly in the dark for two reasons:
Why did this happen (the third time now in three months)?
What can I possibly do to check, what has caused this problem?
btw i have made a video about this but i have no sdcard slot available atm so i can't show it.
I disabled Multi-Core in BIOS so i don't have regular lags.
I always keep energy saving settings to "Maximum Performance" so i don't have regular contrast issues.
I deinstalled ThinkAdvantage Access Connections so i don't have random WLAN Adapter "power offs".

Any ideas?
€: my interpretation:
* pci.sys is listed as a possible troublemaker
* pci-communicaitonscontroller is the only device i didn't install the driver for as far as my device manager tells the truth
* as there is no driver on the lenovo support & driver page what shall i do?
But i don't think it has anything to do with that, rather than with power management (yet again ...) or chipset driver or ... i am completly stuck ...
I disabled Multi-Core in BIOS so i don't have regular lags.
I always keep energy saving settings to "Maximum Performance" so i don't have regular contrast issues.
I deinstalled ThinkAdvantage Access Connections so i don't have random WLAN Adapter "power offs".

  • Nokia N8. Screen going off at random times after B...

I had belle for few weeks on my n8 now and I noticed very annoying issue. At completely random times screen goes off. It is not going off per settings. I have to lock the screen and then unlock it or else there is no response by touching it. I could be browsing web or checking email and it will go dark, it is not because of lack of activity.
    Any help ?

    Hi aim1999,
Have tried performing a soft reset or hard reset on the phone to see if it was a bad install?
To do Soft reset: Enter *#7780# into your phone's keypad
Note: this will not delete any data from the device.
To do a Hard reset: Enter *#7370#
Note: You will need to back up your data before you do this because it will erase all data from the phone.
If this still does not fix your problem, you may have to take the device into a Nokia Care Point for further inspection.
    Regards,
    haZey

  • Iphone 5 screen goes off...

My iphone 5 with 64GB storage has recently upgraded to iOS 8.1. But since today morning, I notice that the screen goes off quite frequently  while I am on a call with someone. The blank screen has to be swiped multiple times to get baBut once call is over, screen seems to be in normal mode. Any clues please ?

Did you happen to restore your iPhone 5 from a backup when you first bought it? Often, data from older phones/iOS's will sometimes not transfer across correctly, causing issues like this. The best thing to do is to put the iPhone into recovery mode and restore as new to test it then
    Instructions on recovery mode:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
    Instructions on restoring as new:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
If when restored as new, and the issue still occurs, then your iPhone is faulty, so take it back to where you bought it from and get it replaced.
If it works no problem after restoring as new, manually transfer your information back onto the iPhone

  • When phone screen goes off and turned on the running app closes. Why ?

When i run Here Map app and after the timeout the screen goes off and when i turn on screen back the app will be closed. Is this a problem or fire fox OS works like this ?

Are you sure, the app is closed (possibly, it is only minimized and you can access is via the application manager: http://mzl.la/1BATUYe#w_open-the-application-manager)

  • Why does my keyboard repeat keys and the screen goes off center?

Keyboard repeats letters, erases multiple letters and generally goes crazy. Also screen goes off center and too large for frame.

    First see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Home screen icons are magnified or large
    Next try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

gets hot while taking video and screen goes off so many times

Sounds like something is obstructing the proximity sensor on your phone. It is usually at the top of the display next to the ear speaker. You didn't say what you have. Usual suspects are a screen protector or dust.

    Hello Jo-anneR,
    Welcome to the forums.
In this case we can try to reload the software on the BlackBerry® smartphone to make sure it is running the latest version and there are no issues with the OS.
Here is how to backup your BlackBerry smartphone http://bbry.lv/oPVWXc
Once you have backed up your BlackBerry smartphone please follow the link below to complete a clean reload of the BlackBerry smartphone software.
    Link: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB03621
Once completed test it and proceed with a selective restore, here is how to restore http://bbry.lv/qgQxLo
If this does not correct the issue then it would appear to be a hardware issue and you will want to contact your point of sale for options.
    Have a good day.

  • Random shutdowns/screen off on Mavericks

I've been getting random shutdowns on my MBA 2013. It almost always happens when I've closed the lid to put it to sleep. After that when I open it the screen always stays black and nothing happens. I have to press down on the power button for a while to get it to reboot.
I've noticed it happening since I upgraded to Mavericks. I thought it might be a problem because I just updated so I did a clean install last week but it's continued to happen.
Any ideas what this could be due to?
I have a log from a shutdown I had last night. If anyone could help me out that would be nice.

  • 1 yr old Macbook pro random shutdowns on or off power

I have a MacBook pro thats about 1 year old, Mac OS X 10.6.8, completely updated, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7.
It is randomly shutting down for no apparent reason... it happens about once a day, sometimes on the power sometimes when it's not, the battery time doesn't act strange at all, the temperature seems to be fine when it happens as well, between 60-70c like always. The screen goes blank, doesn't respond to anything i do, all lights are off, and then I hold down the power button and it makes a pop noise. I then turn it on again and its fine, and gives me an error report. It doesn't seem to be associated with any application... happens when I have just chrome open, just firefox, entourage, or word, any combination of those...Any ideas? It is definitely worrying me, especially since my warranty is pretty much just at the end of it's rope.

Sounds like a power supply problem (not portable power supply), but I wouldn't want to bet on the specific issue. I realize that your MBP is not in warranty, but you might do well to visit your local Genius Bar to get their input.
This is an interesting problem; post here with the results.

  • My iPhone 4S won't let me send any text messages, I can see the recent ones but when I go to type back the screen goes off and it goes back to the home screen?

I have had my iPhone 4S for a while and it's worked perfectly. Messages were going through fine and everything. I went on this morning as I had a text from someone. I opened the text and the screen just went back to the homepage. It has never done this before so I tried opening it again. The same happened again. I opened a recent text and I can read the old messages fine, it's just as soon as I click to message/text them back it just goes off.
I tried with Facebook mailing and the same happens, it just goes off. And when I go on safari and try and type something in it goes off.
I don't know what to do. I have tried turning it off and on and that didn't work. I have tried resetting network connections and I just don't know what to do. I am currently trying to software update to the iOS 7.0.4 to see if that has anything do with it. As before I clicked to text the person back a carrier question came up and it has come up before, could that have something to do with it?
    Please can you help me?

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore.  Try each of these in order until the issue goes away.

  • Macbook 13.3 white, the screen goes off and only comes on when screen moved

    Hi.
I have the macbook 13.3 in white, early 2009 model. The screen keeps going off and the only way I can get it back on is to move the screen back and forth. By the looks of things this is a common problem and it's usually related to a cable between the screen and the logic board.
My question is, how easy is it to open the mac up and get to this cable to re-connect it properly?
Or do Apple repair this FOC due to it being a popular problem?
    Thanks
    Mark

My girlfriend has a white macbook that is just over the year warranty.  We were going to get the Apple care, but forgot as we got the computer at Best Buy and didn't expect to have problems.  I've always previously been a PC guy and had never had problems with my Dells. They all still run and work perfectly but are just obsolete in many ways.
I'm very disappointed with the Macbook.  The screen freezes and fades to white and you have to move the screen to get it to work.  The computer is still running fine, it just seems like a connection to the screen that is the problem.  I brought it to the "genius bar" and they went down and opened up the computer.  When I got it back they advised it might be the cable for the screen or the screen itself.  He went on to say Apple will not just fix that problem, the only option is to have Apple do a $470 (I believe that's what I was quoted) warrantied overhaul of the entire machine.  They don't just fix the problem, they go through the whole machine for $470 and its warrantied.  He said a computer repair shop could probably fix the problem cheaper.  My problem is that this was a fairly expensive machine that is barely over a year old and its having a problem that it seems many people are having and their only solution is to spend half the money of a new one to fix something as small as a cable that is definitely their fault.  I do not think the screen needs to be replaced or the logic board as when you pinch the screen and angle it, it works amazingly.  I opened up the machine just to take a look and it seems that the cable for the video goes through the hinge and there is a pleat inside the hinge shaped to contour the outside of the machine when closed that tugs on the cable slightly.  I also saw that there was some missing screws that the "Genius Bar" may not have put back.  They told me they unplugged and inspected the video cable and the computer worked better for a while which leads me even more to believe there is something wrong with the cable and the hinge design.
I think Apple should fix this problem.  This problem that is becoming more and more common and it is definitely a product defect.  We are paying a decent dollar for these products compared with PC laptops out there.  I'd like to see some decent service.  This is not a $470 "one fix fits all" problem for the customer, this is an easy fix for the company to make on faulty products.  It will cost them little and its the right thing to do.  I predict more and more people will be complaining about this problem in the coming year.  They should not be able to profit on this flaw after so recently profiting on the machines.

  • Nano 7 screen goes off when music plays

I purchased the Nano 7 to days ago and trying to get it set up.
I can't get the screen to stay on so I can see names of artists/songs.  Once music starts, screen goes dark.  Can anyone tell me how to fix it?  Thanks

To save on battery power the Nano will dim automatically after 20 seconds of inactivity, and then the the backlight will turn off.  To light up the screen again press the Sleep/Wake button quickly, which is the On/Off button.  I've noticed on my Nano 7th gen, I can awaken the screen by pressing the Home button as well.
Also, I've noticed on my Nano that if I want to know the names of the songs/artists while the screen is dark, I can press and hold the play button on the side, and the Nano will speak the names of the song and artist to me.

  • Screen Goes off above certain angle

The screen of my MacBook 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo goes black when I raise it above about 70º . It re-illuminates when lowered and finally goes off as normal as it nears the closed position. It is difficult to use at anything below 90º. The backlight is being switched off it appears but data is still being sent to the screen as it can be seen vaguely. Does anyone know what mechanism is used to switch the screen off and if so where it is situated and whether it is easy to fix? I do not think it is a software fault...

I'd be surprised if the magnetic latch was responsible for switching off the backlight otherwise would it not be possible to switch the screen off by putting something magnetic close to it which would be annoying? The magnets are located at the top corners of the screen and the corners of the keyboard hand rest areas. I thought it might be a loose connection to the inverter board but wouldn't expect it to remake contact once broken.

  • IPhone screen goes off.

The screen of iPhone 4s goes off periodically. Only reset helps.

With iTunes on computer, Restore iPhone Firmware, at end when asked, Restore as New. After that, if this problem happens again, iPhone 4S has full Warranty, make appointment with Genius and take iPhone to Apple Store for resolution of this problem.
