X201 wireless adapter : Thinkpad vs intel centrino?
Hi- I am going to purchase a X201 laptop- but am confused about the wireless adapter option. There is the thinkpad bgn and then intel centrino wireless, advanced and ultimate "n" . The help buttons are of no help. Under what circumstances would I need to opt for one of the intel centrino adaptes? Are they faster or more compatible?
Well I'm not and expert, but in a nutshell, with the right antenna setup and router/access point for each, you get speeds up to:
• ThinkPad Wireless BGN
• Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1000 BGN
• Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6200 AGN
• Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 AGN
• Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 AGN
ThinkPad Wireless BGN: 150Mpbs transmit/300Mbps receive (Realtek-based last I heard).
Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1000 BGN: 150Mbps transmit/300Mbps receive.
Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6200 AGN: 300Mbps transmit and receive.
Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 AGN: 450Mbps transmit and receive.
Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250 AGN: Adds WiMAX.
These are theoretical maximum speeds and of course the real world rate is lower and ymwv.

W510 Wireless Adapter: getting kicked out of most wireless networks
Hi Everyone,
I'm running a W510 with Windows 8 on it. I have an extremely annoying issue with my wi-fi network network card and I have no clue where it's coming from.
The wi-fi networks at my home and office work perfect and I haven't had a single issue with them. I recently started travelling a lot and tried using wi-fi on various locations such as open wi-fi on airports, secured networks in hotels, cafes, guest homes etc. Most of them are not workable. Here's what's happening:
I can usually connect the first time I try, but after a few minutes, and hour top I get kicked out of the network or end up with "Limited" access. When I try to reconnect the it goes into and endless "connecting" state. Trying to disconnect hangs the pane and no actions are possible until I:
1. Restart the explorer.exe process, which it "Not responding"
2. Disable and Enable the wireless adapter though the Device Manager
After that in case of some networks I can connect again for a few minutes, but then I all repeats all over OR I cannot connect back at all.
I have tried using A LOT of networks in various places, and I'd say with about 80-85% I experience the described issue.
I case of some of the networks I had a chance to connect by wire and they were working perfectly. Often I have other people around with me and of course I'm the only one facing the issue, it's not that I have really back luck for wi-fi networks. Plus my phone connects to majority of them without issue.
In many cases when I switch networks I need to manually run ipconfig /renew and ipconfig /flushdns, before being able to connect to anything.
The wifi adapter is a Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN on a Lenovo W510. The driver version is 14.2.1.3. I've seen 15.x version available for download from both Intel and Lenovo sites, but when trying to install it I got info, that I already have a newer version of the driver.
Uninstalling the driver and letting windows reinstall it does not solve the issue.
I ran out of options on what to check and how to debug this further. What are your thoughts on this?
Thanks,
MikeZycHi, MikeZyc
I've seen this issue on many machines running Windows 8 with Intel wireless adapters. One fix that has worked more often than not is to navigate to Control Panel ► Programs and Features and uninstall the Intel Management Engine Driver. This driver seems to cause the wireless connectivity to get lost or not connect at all in Windows 8. Try uninstalling that, then restarting the computer and see if any improvement is made.
Best of luck,
Adam

S230u Thinkpad Twist Intel Wireless Card Compatability?
Is there an official list as to what Wireless Cards will work with the Lenovo Twist. I know when they were sold you had two options of cards, and had to decide if you wanted the Intel which supported Miricast or the Broadcom version which supported 5Ghz. Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 & Bluetooth 4.0 (2x2 BGN & BT 4)Thinkpad a/b/g/n Wireless & Bluetooth 4.0 (2x2 ABGN & BT 4.0) Now there are Intel Cards out that support all of the above such as the Advanced-N 6235, but I can find no information if this or any other Intel cards will work with the Thinkpad Twist. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.
There was an interesting post on Amazon about wireless cards for the Twist. I'm going to try to upgrade from my Broadcom to an "Intel WiFi part 2230BNHMW chip with "FRU P/N 04W3765" written right on the face of the card" on my 3-year-old Twist, based on the poster's info: "Some Twists come with WiDi support and some don't. Mine didn't. It had the newest dual band (2.4 and 5 g) WiFi card that doesn't support WiDi because it isn't made by Intel. Lenovo did this all to save a couple of bucks. So I brought a WiFi card that did support WiDi and Lenovo had whitelisted the card and I had to return it to get a single band, "Lenovo certified", Intel chip. It would have been nice if Lenovo stated that it didn't have the correct WiFi card for WiDi. You will need the Intel WiFi part 2230BNHMW chip with "FRU P/N 04W3765" written right on the face of the card - the 04W3765 is the Lenovo part number. This is the only chip that will get past Lenovo whitelisting that will make WiDi work. Using the new Intel Wifi card had no impact the Twist's WiFi performance at my house. When I installed the WiFi chip, I didn't have to update any drivers. The computer automatically did it upon booting. The chip was very easy to install and if you go to the Lenovo Twist support website the manual shows you exactly how to do it. However, I did have to update the Audio driver using the Lenovo driver website. This is important because I updated all of the drivers using the Lenovo website when I got the computer. However, the Lenovo website failed to update the audio drivers. So when I first used the WiDi I had no sound. It was very easy to update but you will likely need to update the audio drivers separately should you do what I did. Once I installed the WiDi software for Windows 8 (from the Lenovo Website) and added the Neatgear Push2TV 3000 to my TV, it worked like a charm (I also updated the software on the Push2TV 3000 - PTV3000 that I purchased from Amazon. However, I don't think that this was critical)."

Thinkpad T510 Windows 7 No wireless adapter found & device manager network adapters exclamations
Lenovo owners,
I was wondering if you could help.
I’m having issues with my laptop(Lenovo thinkpad T510) all of a sudden and cannot pinpoint a solution and it seems my laptop is getting progressively slower.
One day upon startup I could not obtain a network connection either wirelessly or even while connected. (I’ve never had a problem & even earlier that day , and even turned it on later that evening and had no problem, and now these issues are back.) I searched for connections and received a ‘no wireless adapter found’. I checked my device manager and noticed the yellow exclamation point next to all under network connections. When clicking on the driver the message ‘This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device.’
I tried updating the driver under driver tab, but to no avail, or I have the most current.
I’ve searched Lenovo forums stating to uninstall drivers and install but many people still have the same issue.
Does this sound like manufacturer issue or virus type relation?
Now my laptop seems to running slower and slower upon startup and shutdown.
Anyway anybody can help would be appreciated. I’m starting to get backlogged on work.
& Yes, the switch on the side of my laptop is turned onFree AVG and Malwarebytes yep. Ive performed scans on both and no threats detected.Diagnostics results shown below. States exactly what Device Manager did and once i try to reinstall driver I get the Device status code 31 window(shown on the right). I've tried reinstalling drivers and restarting but no change in status. The only thing that happened since i that happened when i shut down my working laptop and when i turned it on and ran into these issues were Windows Updates upon shutdown. Any chance a wacky update could wreck havoc on all my drivers?

Hi,
I have had the chance to browse through solaris-x86.org, and it seems like Sun is developing the Intel Centrino Lan (Intel Pro Wireless 2100) drivers for Solaris.
Being a straight foward Solaris user for almost 2 years, and that I'm getting a little out of touch with Linux - Only because I actually know how to use Solaris pretty well and can play with is easily - would anybody have any chance of knowing when the Solaris 9 or 10's driver of the Intel's Wireless Lan miniPCI would be available?
It would be awesome to have a driver for this on Solaris - which then would mean that i can always get rid of my Windows XP from my laptop - which i have for all my desktops...:p
Anyway, thanks for your help.
- FrankHi Frank,
You can find the driver at http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/laptop/downloads/

Intel 3945ABG wireless adapter
I have a wireless adapter problem.
I am unable connect to my wireless modem using the wireless adapter. I can only connect with the Ethernet adapter and cable. I am unable to renew or release an IP address or get a manually set IP to work on the wireless network. Another laptop computer connects to the wireless modem fine.
I tried downloading and installing the adapter driver from Lenovo, but that failed halfway through unpacking and transferring to the hard drive, with the message "access is denied" on C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\WLLANINT\Vista\Apps\v32\Thumbs.db.
Does anyone have any ideas about my wireless network problem or how to successfully install a new driver?
Many thanks
Gil Lambertdelete the thumb file then try to re-install.
by the way, do not forget to switch the wireless button ( probably front side of your computer ) and make sure you activate wireless by pressing fn + f5 ( also make sure your function keys are working, if not, re-install power management ) -
Iwp firmware issues with Intel Centrino Ultimate 6300
On a clean install of Solaris 11.1 I am attempting to get the wifi adapter in my Thinkpad W530 to work, however I come across some problems
On boot i get warnings such as this :
WARNING: iwp_load_init_firmware(): timeout waiting for init uCode load.
dladm displays the device, but it is shown as "down".
Any suggestions on how to possibly solve this problem would be greatly appreciatedThank you for the kind comments regarding the router. I like to update my router every couple of years just to make certain I have the fastest available. Thanks for the tip about the new firmware.
I have the real Centrino 6300 Ultimate-N now. I had read about the 7260 as a replacement but I have a few concerns. First, I don't have Haswell in that notebook, and I am not sure the 7260 is compatible because it was designed for a newer CPU and chipset. Second, my wife's notebook is probably 50 feet from the router and the 7260, from what I have read, only uses two antennas and not three. I would be sacrificing one antenna for a chip which may not be any faster or even as reliable. Third, I don't know how difficult it is to replace the wireless card in a notebook.
Perhaps this is one of these situations where doing nothing is the best response.

Replacing wireless adapter in T510
Hello, I purchased a T510 43142KU several months ago and have realized that I should have bought the upgraded wireless adapter - Centrino Advanced-N 6200. I contacted Lenovo and tried to find out if I could purchase the new part and swap it in for my current adapter. The answer appeared to be yes, but the person I spoke to hedged a bit on the phone.
She transferred me to the parts department who quoted me $133 plus $10 shipping for the new adapter. So, before I blow $150 on a part that is a $10 upgrade on the Lenovo website, I have a couple of questions:
a) will this part work?
b) is it possible to get a generic part (read cheaper) to work?
Thanks,
JeffHi and welcome to the forum!
1. Since the tabook lists Intel Advanced-N 6200 as an option for T510 i.e. I would say it's compatible and will work.
2. You can try eBay, however be wary of the sellers as they most often sell unapproved lenovo wifi cards which throw an error on boot.
Hope this helps.

I want to run a Powershell Startup Script to disable the Wireless adapters on some systems. I thought I'd want to get some WMI stuff
Get-WmiObject -Class Win32_NetworkAdapter -Filter "Name = 'Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205'
Then run netsh to disable it

I don't really need the Get-WmiObject do I?

NVIDIA NVS Graphic adapter support KVM-Intel AMT/vPro?
Hi there,
I have a Thinkpad T410, Intel core i7, Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN and the NVIDIA NVS 3100m Graphic adapter, I asked to Intel and that adapter does not support KVM:
http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/showthread.php?t=78585&o=a&s=lr
I need to use KVM and I cannot understand why if the Lenovo product review shows the NVIDIA adapter supports AMT why it acually does not support KVM, so it does not really support AMT (it's just a partial support):
http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/showthread.php?t=76173
So, I'm forced to lose a good NVIDIA graphic card for an integrated one, the question is: can I change to Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 57000MHD-AMT? -it's a cheaper one-
Help!
Solved!
Go to Solution.Hi javiercaceres!
According to the Hardware Maintenance Manual, it's part of the system board, so the graphics adapter can't be swapped out.

Help Why I can not find the wireless adapter?
My thinkpad is t400 6475-r2g.
I god the brand new thinkpad.
It suppose to include the wireless adapter.
What can be the reason?According to this page, your configuration comes with an Intel wireless card already installed. You shouldn't have to buy a new one to have wireless functionality.

X41 wireless adapter not found
I have just reinstalled XP on my x41 version 2525-65g using a version of XP professional I happened to have.
I thought that I had re-installed all the drivers but I keep getting the message "No supported wifi adapters in the system in the system". I have installed Intel PROset/wireless utility which used to work before the reinstall.
I am also having trouble getting bluetooth going as well.
I have various drivers with yellow question marks in device manager.
Can anyone tell me what to try next?
Solved!
Go to Solution. Please first of all identify the unkown wireless device as described here to verify, that the "factory-default" wireless lan-card is built in.
Next step will be to uninstall all wrong WiFi-drivers if installed (Controlpanel - Add or remove Software).
The WiFi driver for the Intel of your X41 is this one:
- Intel PRO/Wireless 2200bg, 2915abg, 3945bg, 3945abg, 4965ag, 4965agn Mini PCI adapter.
(view the readme in the ZIP-file with Wordpad)
Sometimes users tune up their wireless by replacing it by an Atheros/Phillips WiFi-Card:
- ThinkPad 802.11abg, 802.11abgn, 802.11bg, and 802.11bgn Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter
or Cisco Wireless lan:
- ThinkPad Dual-Band ab and 802.11abg wireless LAN Mini PCI adapter
Please read the installation instructions on the concerning download-page.
Have success.
