X2100 Solaris 10 Update 2 raidctl

Hi,
I was told Solaris 10 Update 2 would include support for raidctl.
I want to mirror the internal drives.
I have downloaded and installed Solaris 10 Update2 and can not get a mirror to be created - I have tried:
Raidctl -c c1d0 c2d0
(incorrect disk format)
Raidctl -c c1d0p0 c2d0p0
Raidctl -c c1d0p2 c2d0p2
No dice
Thanks for any tips

Yes, and this is documented in MOS doc ID 1448883.1

  • Solaris Update Release Query

As a requirement for Oracle 11g I need Solaris 10 to be on at least update 6.
I am currently on update 4.
Applying the patch bundle isn't an option as the 11g upgrade pre-req checks needs to see that /etc/release specificies u6 or greater.
What I'd like to know is, will installing the Oracle Solaris OS Recommended Patchset achieve this or do I need to go for an Update Release?
As far as I can see on this is that only the latest update release version is available through OTN which I can't use as our EMC software is not compatible with it and there is no fix yet. OTN points to MOS for older updates but I can only see Patch Bundles and Patch Sets.
    Many thanks in advance
    Paul

I have not used these myself but did you try the instructions near the bottom:
    "Older Versions of Solaris
Older versions of Solaris can also be requested by logging a Physical Media Request through My Oracle Support. Follow the instructions above. If a download is sufficient, please state this in the request."
I have no idea how long it would take to get Physical Media but that maybe your best option.
I do not have the details but I think some of the vendors have patches for the latest Solaris 10 update - maybe bugging them would be fruitful.

  • Install Solaris Update 6 fails

I downloaded the DVD and CD images. Burned them to DVD/CD, but my blade 150 does not boot from the media.
So I configured my Jumpstart server for Update 6, the client boots from the net but, complaining aboout: kernel/unix not found.
Jumstart installed Update 5: No problem!!!
What could be the problem? Is the Blade 150 not supported for Update 6 or are there known issues with the Update 6 distribution?

By any chance, did you have Solaris 10 update 5 already installed on the system before trying to install update 6?
I had this setup (mine is a PC though). It turned out that for some strange/stupid reason, grub (from the update6 media) goes directly to the hdd for stage2 (so the installation media is never used).
This is what I did: boot the system with update 5 (yes 5) media. When in grub, move the arrow key (mainly to stop the timer), eject the update5 media & insert update6 media, then proceeded with the first option (note this option was displayed by update5). Then I could install update6.
Not sure this will help in case of Blade 150.

  • How to check Solaris update version

    Hi,
How to check which update version is on Solaris 10?
I have Solaris 10 update 4 installed on SPARC and I want to make sure that it is update 4.
    The output from uname command:
    bash-3.00# uname -a
    SunOS sun3 5.10 Generic_118833-17 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V245
Does the number 118833-17 indicate that this is update 4?
    Kind regards,
    Daniel

So how it is possible that I have downloaded from Sun download the file sol-10-u4-ga-sparc-dvd-iso-a.zip and sol-10-u4-ga-sparc-dvd-iso-b.zip. Burned and using JumpStart i have installed on the SPARC machine. And this is not Update 4?
According to me it should be updated 4.

  • Solaris Updates a pay for feature

    Hi All,
When you think it can't get any worse. I have a Ultra 45 , Brand Spanking New, about $5000. Loaded Solaris 10 on it and thought, let me go download the Solaris 10 (Sparc) patch cluster and install it before I move this system into the lab. Come to find out you now have to have a "PAID SUPPORT CONTRACT" to download a patch cluster. What!
We also bought a $7500 X4200 and I went to Sun to download the manual and some detailed pictures of the Front /Back and Interior veiws; nope sorry got to have a "PAID SUPPORT CONTRACT" for that as well.
WoW what a positive user experiance that is. Makes you wonder what Sun is thinking. So, my next Server / Workstation purchase will from a Linux only vendor that is for sure.
    Joe

I understand having systems in a "secure" environment with no internet access, and having to download the patch clusters and burn them on CD, bring into the lab, and deploy the patches...uggg...what a pain.
So, what we have now is Sun giving away a perfect great OS, then CHARGING people to download the recommended patch clusters? Now that makes a lot of sense said tongue in cheek). I have been a loyal fan of Sun since version 4 and Solaris since 2.51 and am now shaking my head. This is certainly going to drive people either to OpenSolaris, or to any of the over 400 flavors of Linux. I guess Sun had to follow RedHat's method of "let's bait them with the free OS then zap them on support re patches"
Sun (Jonathan Schwartz), if you're listening, will you wake up and provide free up to date patches for a free OS, or just start charging for it all, but do NOT give away the OS, then require that unsuspecting person to call and get a silver service contract just to download patches for the dang FREE OS? Too much to ask?

  • Fresh solaris 10 x86 install patch update problems 119060-17 ...

Just yesterday, i installed a fresh Solaris 10 x86 onto some pc hardware. After getting solaris installed and issues with my network card, i downloaded and installed the free version of the update manager 1.0.x. Next, i proceeded to update all the general patches for the solaris 10 system. I started with the command 'pprosvc -i' from a terminal. It then proceeded to download and validate a bunch of patches successfully until it hit the following 3 patches:
    119060-17 ---- X11 6.6.2_x86: Xsun patch
    122213-10 ---- GNOME 2.6.0_x86: GNOME Desktop Patch
    122912-02 ---- SunOS 5.10_x86: Apache 1.3 Patch
All 3 failed some kind of validation and then crashed the pprosvc program, at which point it exited with the following error:
    122912-02 cannot be validated
    119060-17 cannot be validated
    122912-02 cannot be validated
Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digital signature(s).
I also tried to use the GUI Update Manager to update, hoping the problem was isolated to pprosvc, but that problem was also in the GUI with a similar error message:
Error occurred...The detailed error message is: Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digitial signature(s)
Anyone know why Sun's update patch process is so troublesome?
    Getting Tired of Solaris Updates...
I should mention that this is the free solaris 10 x86 install and i don't have a service contract with Sun. If this problem persists, i don't think i'll get one, as i see only further problems after buying one.

  • How to know the update details in Solaris.

    Hi,

    Hello.
To see the original Solaris update used to install the system run "cat /etc/release":
    $ cat /etc/release
                       Oracle Solaris 10 9/10 s10s_u9wos_14a SPARC
Copyright (c) 2010, Oracle and/or its affiliates. All rights reserved.
Assembled 11 August 2010The above shows Solaris 10 Update 9
The second part is to look at the Kernel Patch installed
    $ uname -a
SunOS hostname 5.10 Generic_142909-17 sun4u sparc SUNW,SPARC-EnterpriseThe above shows this system has 142909-17. Use the matrix on this site to see what update it is: http://blogs.oracle.com/patch/entry/solaris_10_kernel_patchid_progression
Hope it helps answer your question.

  • How can I update to latest Solaris NTP 4  package?

I am facing difficult challenge on this.
There is a requirement to run the NTP version 4, I Understand the package involved is SUNWntp4S. But in all the patch bundles installed we have not been able to upgrade the current version, i.e V3
Tried to see if we can get a application to serve the version 4 protocol but there is a concern on how to implement the free version on a procudtion system.
Are there any other methods that you can suggest.
    Thanks in advance.

You may want to review the patch cluster strategy document on OTN:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/servers-storage-admin/solaris-patching-strategy-257476.pdf
The main information to be aware of is mentioned on page 10:
Because the Oracle Solaris Update Patch Bundles don't contain new packages introduced in an
Oracle Solaris Update Release, new functionality that depends upon such new packages is not
available in the Oracle Solaris Update Patch Bundles.
This means that you must upgrade your system to get the new NTP4 functionality. Patches can only be applied to existing packages. New packages must be installed by an upgrade (LiveUpgrade is recommended).

  • Patch Requirements For Solaris 10 x86_64 (10/08)

    Hello All;
We are about to begin testing the use of installing SAP Netweaver onto Solaris 10 x86 (10/08). I have seen SAP Note 908334 and it describes use of a prior older version of Solaris 10 x86 (01/06). Can anyone tell me if newer versions of the patches described in this SAP note are included or need to be added later?
    Many Thanks
    David L. Black

    You can check using
    showrev -p | grep <patchnumer>
if the patch is already installed. Most likely this is the case for the version you use so there's no need to update any patches.
However, it's always a good idea to keep the system up-to-date, especially if you plan to use ZFS as filesystem.
I use "pca" to update our systems (http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/pca/) - much easier to handle than "Solaris Update connection" - and fewer problems.

  • During Postgresql configuration initdb freezes on solaris 10 x86

    Hi,
I’ve installed Solaris 10 10/08 x86 in a VMware environment. The install went successfully, but when I tried to configure postgresql 8.2 to run the OS freezes when I run initdb.
I followed the instructions from the man pages, created all the environment variables and configured all the necessary permissions. Below is the output when I run initdb in debug mode.
    initdb -d

This user must also own the server process.
The database cluster will be initialized with locale C.

It always run to the “selecting default max_connections ...” line and locks up the OS. I can’t do anything after that. I have to restart the VM. Has anyone experience this issue before? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Based on feedback from another site, and some more research it seems that this is a bug. You can view more information at http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6579274. It looks like this bug has been resolve and will be in the next Solaris update. I'm not sure if it was fixed in the current patch set, as I don't have a support account. From the patch report (http://sunsolve.sun.com/patchRedirnew.do?type=report&item=10_x86_patch_report), it seems that the related bug, 6529185, was fixed.
So, if you have a support account then you can download the latest patches and see if it was patched. I wanted to try Solaris 10 out before purchasing a support account, so I've resolved to use a release earlier than 10/08. I hope this helps

You might want to ask about patching issue on Solaris update forums since as far as I can tell issue is not related to the fact that patch is for Application Server - it seems to be generic problem with patch signature verification. Solaris update and patching forum URL:
    http://forum.sun.com/jive/forum.jspa?forumID=316
As for the asadmin question: first you need to start your server using 'asadmin start-domain' command and you do not need to know the port number to do that. After that you can try accessing https://localhost:4849 (4849 is the default value for admin application URL port number).
