X220 Appears to Sleep But Doesn't

All, first I tried to get it to sleep in this thread.  I had that working for about a month just fine.  Then I noticed that about half the times I pull it out of my bag it is on fire, the fan is running and the battery is dead or just about dead.  Clearly it is not sleeping correctly.
Either closing the lid of selecting sleep from the start menu does turn off the screen the way it should and it appears to sleep.  But most of the time the fan doesn't actually turn off (I have to hold the corner up to ear to hear/feel the hot air) and I guess its not really sleeping.
Im not sure what to try to do to troubleshoot this.  I know I really don't want to have to shut down every time I need to close the lid.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Guys, the EPIC FAILURE was on me and boy do I feel like a dope.  Sure enough, my never used wireless mouse was turned on inside the bottom of my bag.  I got my 5 year old to confess to messing around in my bag which must have turned it off.
Seems like Sleep is now working again.
Thanks for the help and sorry for the wasted bandwidth.

I'm having the same problem though not with the exact same components. I have a Palm Z22 and Windows Vista--things were going great until a few days ago when I noticed that the palm weren't connecting. The Hotsync process proceeds normally, there are no problems noted in the hotsync log, and yet things do not travel from the computer to the palm and vice versa. I've tried pretty much everything: I know the palm is connected to the desktop, not Outlook; I have tried soft and hard resets; I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software multiple times; I know the username is correct.
I suspect the problem has something to do with Vista; when I restored my computer to a previous time it started working fine but this morning it stopped again. The computer may be automatically updating in a way that is preventing the Palm Desktop software (verson 4.2) from working. Version 6.2 seems to work but I really hate it--there's no color schemes or categories. If someone could help me out with this I would really, really appreciate it.

  • My computer sleeps, but doesn't

When I close my laptop, the computer seems to go to sleep: the hard drive winds down and the light begins to pulse. But the console log suggests otherwise. Any thoughts? I have unchecked "wake for network access," have Bluetooth turned off, and nothing in the USB ports.

I fixed the problem. When I was trying to clean the connector of the iPhone I must have bent some pins. I have straightened them to the best of my ability and now it syncs. If your iPhone charges, but doesn't sync, most likely you have a similar problem, because the iPhone doesn't need all of its pins to charge, but it does need all of them to sync.

Any updates or downloads won't download in Firefox. The download box appears, goes thru the motions but doesn't park anything in the file. I usually have to quite Mozilla, use Explorer for the download, such as Go to Meeting, or Adobe updates. Can't download anything with Firefox from your browser.

I am having the same issue -- IE7, XP SP3... Flash Player

  • IPhoto appears to import but doesn't

    Hi folks,
First, apologies if this has already been addressed.  I've done a bit of searching and can't find the solution.
I have a new iMac and have transferred all of my pictures it.  Ive been trying to use iPhoto to manage photos, but am extremely frustrated.
I recently discovered tht iPhoto lies to me.  I put my memory card into the computer. iPhoto reads the card, identifies the pics, and appears to proceed to import everything.  If I keep iPhoto open, I can see the events, work with photos, etc.
However, when I close iPhoto and reopen it, everything I just imported is gone!  I didn't realize this until I'd already told iPhoto to delete the photos it had just imported.
But I can't seem to get iPhoto to keep photos it imports.
I've updated to iPhoto 9.2 (though every time I open iPhoto now, it says my library has to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto).  I've tried to use the manager to rebuild the library, but that doesn't seem to work either.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for the help!
    Lee

    You're database file is damaged.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Computer goes to Sleep, but doesn't wakeup

    Hello,
I just completed a build per below, and mostly issues have been resolved.   two nagging issue remains:   my computer goes into "sleep" mode overnight and it doesn't wakeup in the morning; I have to cut power and restart.    If I test immediately after placing computer in sleep mode, I can resurrect the computer normally.   But if I wait overnight, computer doesn't respond and my only recourse is to cut power and restart.
I am using a wireless keyboard, but even with a USB keyboard I have the same issue.    Comments appreciated.
    ACPI = Enabled
    ACPI Suspend = S1(POS)
Video off in suspend = yes
    Suspend time = Disabled
    Wakeup Event = Default
A 2nd issue involes the wireless keyboard.    On boot, computer stops and notes "No keyboard attached."   It is correctly cataloging an error since the driver isn't yet loaded, right?   I am dead in water at that point.  The only option is to set the BIOS so that it doesn't "Halt on keyboard error", right?  This way it will continue to boot, load the driver, and I should be OK?    Is this the mechamism that is normally used with a wireless keyboard/mouse?   Thx.
    Scott
PS  I just flashed bios to version 7.5; I presume problem will still exist with this version, but haven't verified.

Try enabling "USB legacy support" in bios for this one.

  • Display sleeps but doesn't wake on click or tab

    Hi,
I have a Mac Mini(mid 2011) with came with Lion. I just upgraded to 10.7.2 and since then there is an issue with the sleep function.
I have not put the mini to sleeep as i keep downloading large files or converting movies but the DISPLAY is set to sleep in 10 mins.
IT was all fine but ever since the update, the display doesn't wake up once it goes to sleep. Even though i click the mouse or press keys on keyboard.
A black screen prevails on the screen and the viable option left is to cut the power off and restart to access the screen. It is seriously hampering my ongoing tasks as they are closed abruptly.
For the time being i have set the display to never sleep. But i am looking for a solution.  Has anyone else also faced the issue after an the update. Any suggesstions would be highly appreciated.

First, let me say I am using the same hotsync program that originally came with this same palm handheld and which has previously worked.  So there shouldn't be any incompatability issues.
And the message I get when synchronizing is-----that it is synchonizing and, as usual, it runs through the whole rigamarole, showing it's doing calendar, memo, addins (whatever those are) etc etc.
At the end, it says, synchronization complete!!!!
Again, it makes the little noises to show they are communicating.  Everything as it should be, only, the info doesn't transfer.
And yes, the data that I save primarily is on my desktold, in the Palm desktop program that came with the Palm handheld.  I want to share, download to my handheld.  So--any thoughts?
    Thanks again,
    Dee

  • Mac Os x 10.5.5 will sleep but doesn't like to wake up. Help please.

Whenever my macbook goes to sleep I need to do a hard shutdown after because an error message comes up telling me I need to restart it in about six languages. After I do so I get another message saying Mac Os x quit unexpectadly. I have the option to ignore or report. I have read on other threads about how you have to wait to close the screen and all that. I've tried.
Mine gets into this situation if i click the apple and then click sleep and then leave it sitting just as it was when i was using it. When I come back I need to do a hard shutdown. How do i resolve this? It is also still under warranty.

Thank you for the responses. I have tried to get the update multiple times, but when it finishes downloading and begins the install the progress bar gets stuck about a quarter of an inch into it and my macbook will sit like that for days. I gave up hope for it.
I will try running the install discs to clear the errors.
I just bought my macbook in august of 2008 and I've already run into this problem and I have totally given up hope for my firewire port.
Do either of you happen to know anyone or had problems with your/their mac's this soon?
And how do i get in touch with Apple by phone without paying for the call? I'm not one for paying alot of money and getting screwed on it so I would like to talk to them.

  • IPod Appears As Connected But Doesn't Show Up On iTunes

I synced my ipod (an 80GB Classic) the night before and when I turned it on later it was like a clean slate; no music, no videos, just some pictures. Well I tried to sync it today but itunes prompted me to restore it to its factory settings because there had been an error. Now when I try to connect it, it doesn't show up on my itunes even though my ipod itself shows connection has been made. I have tried "the 5 R's", have the latest version of itunes and still all I have to show are the same few pictures... I've only had it for a little over two months and have had no problems prior to this, can someone please help?

  • When I try to execute Firefox, it appears to start but doesn't. It seems the internet cache is still loaded from before. How do I clear this (I have that feature checked to delete cache on Firefox shutdown)?

This happens each time I try to start Firefox. I click the icon, my cursor goes into busy mode, then just stops. When I tried to run CCleaner, it tells me I need to stop Firefox. The spinning stopped after running my SuperAntispyware...but started up again when I tried to update my extensions on Firefox.
I think that the problem might be with Adobe and Shockwave. I tried to find updates for my plug-ins and extensions for those programs when prompted by Mozilla Firefox. However, the site I was sent to from Firefox concerning Adobe and Shockwave updates, wasn't helpful.
I tried installing, but it didn't work. I was prompted to look for instructions on Adobe by clicking on a link that didn't even lead me to anything regarding Mozilla Firefox. Finally, I clicked on the "still having problems" link, or something similar to that. It stored a file under "Downloads," which I opened and installed.
I was given the message that the installation was successful, but Mozilla Firefox still showed that my Adobe and Shockwave needed to be updated.
Anyone have any experience with installing Adobe and Shockwave with Mozilla Firefox?

  • Firefox' remember password prompt appears as expected but doesn't allow to click on its first option.

Since I installed Firefox 20, everytime I visit a new site where I enter a login and password, it prompts me to remember the password as it always used to do. However, the only choice I have is to click on 'no' or 'later' from the pop-up menu. The first option 'remember password' doesn't work. It looks normal (i.e. not greyed out or anything), it is clickable, bun when clicked on it, nothing happens. The prompt dialogue stays open and the password wasn't remembered.
I already tried in safe mode, it's the same story.
Could someone please help me with this? I don't feel like having to remember all new passwords by heart...
    Thanks.

I also have this issue on my Dell XPS 15 laptop with the Nvidia Geforce 540M and the temporary fix is turning off hardware acceleration. I do believe that this should only be a temporary fix and that the Mozilla developers should figure out a way to work around this or fix this hardware acceleration issue with the nvidia geforce 540m.
