X220 BIOS POST time

Hello,
I do have a X220 with Win7 64bit, 8GB RAM, i7 and SSD. TPM & Bitlocker are enabled on the system. When I do hit the power button to start the machine it takes about 14 seconds until I do see the ThinkPad logo.
Is there a way to troubleshoot this and to find out what is causing the huge delay?
Thanks,
Chris :-)

Thanks for posting the video.
At first when I compared it to my X220 here, I saw that your delay was about twice as long as my delay, which is what I expected.
Then, I activated TPM+bitlocker on my system, and now I am seeing the exact same thing that you see.  So it seems that the delay corresponds to whether TPM is active or not.  To confirm this, I went into BIOS F1 setup and changed the TPM state to Inactive, and then the long delay went away.
Whether this additional delay caused by active TPM is expected or not, I don't know but I will find out and report back.  Due to upcoming US holiday weekend it may take longer than usual to respond so I appreciate your patience.

  • Enabling BitLocker makes BIOS POST very slow

With BitLocker enabled using the TPM of my Thinkpad X61T the BIOS POST time increases for 1 to 17 sec.
After the BIOS POST Win7 takes 15 Sec to start. So enabling BitLocker doubles my boot time.
Is this long boot time the expected behaviour with BitLocker and Thinkpads, or can it be omitted?
The positive: Windows itself does not feel slower with BitLocker encryption. HDTUNE does not measure a slowdown.

  • MSI P4N SLI, Long wait before BIOS post? (nForce 4 SLI Intel)

Does anyone else have a P4N SLI? Or maybe you might just know anyway...
Everytime I boot the PC, before the BIOS POST even starts theres a long wait (insanely long, compared to other PCs and mobos I've had and used) around 45 sec to a minute, where nothing is shown on the monitor and the DVD and CD drives are constantly read (even though theres nothing inside em). Then the BIOS post comes and the rest of the whole process is fast as I could wish for....
Is that normal with the P4N SLI or maybe even with nForce motherboards?
If not, any ideas what it could be? (I tried stripping my pc down to barebones, minimal RAM, no extra cards, 1 hdd and 1 cd drive (and even without the cd drive) yet still it takes the same amount of time...)
    Please help...
    Thanks in advance.

    Do you mean
    1GB, 512MB, 1GB, 512MB?
    Sorry, ya thats what i meant, 2 GB was a mistake. Its 1 GB, 512, 1, 512.
    Quote
As stated before. Remove the 512meg sticks. To run properly, all sticks should be the same. Reason is due to timings and voltages. Also try to up the voltages to the cpu.
I removed the 512 sticks before, like I said, and I'm just running with the 2 x 1GB sticks, it hasnt had any positive effect on the long wait before POST. The voltage for the RAM is 1.8v right now as according to the BIOS, is that the correct value?
Did I mention that during this long wait my monitor is in sleep mode, then 1 short beep is heard, the lights on my keyboard reset as is usual on any PC and the BIOS does its POST (if i pause after the keyboard lights, its usually auto-detecting my HDDs, and optical drives). It's strange because during that long wait nothing is happening other than my cd drive and dvd drive intermittently flashing and my HDD light is constantly on....
The strange thing is this same setup was working perfectly fine on my old Intel D915GEV motherboard... and it also runs perfectly fine on this mobo too, once you get past the 1 minute+ waiting time...

we have the time difference is 12H between SAP system time and Local time, We have configured time zone activated. and Sys. Time Zone is EST. user ID's time zone is "UTC+8".
any transactions(example MIGO) have the posting time as system time, not local time. but posting date is local date.
How can we configure for the posting time to Local time (my mean posting local time to "entry of time" MKPF-CPUTM field.)? our environment is ECC 6.0

She's working. I had a similar problem on a previous build where the MB didn't want to see all the RAM installed at once.
Put 1 stick of ram in slot 1....BIOS POST!!!
Go to Bios and save config.
Then  1 more stick in slot 5. Boot save config.
Add another stick in slot 3, boot save config.
    Next slot 7.
    Then add slots 2 & 6 boot & save
Finally add slots 4 & 8 boot and save.
Bios post with all 32 gigs ram. For some reason didn't want to see all the ram at once. Recognized my Transcend M.2 512. Able to install OS, system drivers and vid driver. So far so good.

  • Goods Issue Posting Time

    hi all
how to get the Goods Issue Posting Time for the purchase order.
    thanks
    bala

    Hi
If i understood correctly, you are looking to track the issues pertaining to PO.
There is no relevancy of issues of PO, if the material procured is stock material. This means, your procurement is intended for stock only. Issues will be made to the departments who approachs with necessary requirement.
If your procurement is for consumption (account assigned PO), your GR document is nothing but the consumption doc. You can find the goods consumption time from the GR document.

  • Storing by trigger with pre time and post time

     hi,
I am acquiring sample rate of 1000 samples/sec. i am using digital inputs for storing start and stop. when the digital input is high it should start storing and accordingly user has to specify the number of samples or time and data appended before storing starting. i.i pre time or pre samples has to be added before start storing the data. also for stop storing the data post time or samples has to be added.
how to do this..? can i have a sample vi?
    Regards,
    Balaji DP

may be its helpful to you,By using value signaling we can generate the event whenever true occur in Digital input channel (daq),in that particula event case we can append the old data from file like tdms etcc.

  • Long bios load time with gtx970 - maybe need gpu bios update?

I just installed my gtx 970 and it all runs fine.  However I get a very long bios load time on boot up.  Normally it only takes a second or two with a single beep.  With the 970 though I get the single beep and the bios load screen, but it sits at that screen for a long time, then another beep, waiting, eventually another beep, and after some more waiting windows will start to load.
My problem is that now I can also no longer get in to the bios. I have tried even plugging in a ps/2 keyboard to see if maybe that could get me in.  The farthest I get after hitting delete to enter is I just end up at a black screen. My mobo has no onboard gpu output, so its not like its trying to go to a monitor I cant see.
So would any gpu bios updates fix this? I am currently at the latest bios for my board which updated it to a uefi bios.

Under bios features, is there a option called boot mode select?
Try to switch to "legacy only", save and reboot.
Are you using HDMI connector? Try to use DVI.
    Sorry for my english!
I dont remember seeing any boot mode select.  As far as connections I am using all DVI for my monitors. I have also tried only having a single one connected in case there were issues with multiple monitors

with those old boards, you need ME8 to works with modern cards
    ask gigabyte support about it
Thanks Ill try emailing them.  Is ME8 some other bios? Just never heard of it before
    -edit
After reading up it looks like it was just a revision to allow ivy bridge devices, which happened a long long time ago on a bios update:
Support Intel 3rd generation 22nm E1 stepping CPU (Ivy bridge)
    Improve power on issue
    Update ME / CPU code
Unless theres something else Im missing about ME8

  • K9AGM2 - Long post time or slow post time

I don't understand ...  its takes about a minute for xp to start booting.  I have fast booting enabled.   Specs, AMD 64x2 3800, 1Gb ram, Seagate 120gb IDE HD, panasonic IDE cd-rom drive.  Machine works fine, just wondering if the slow post time is a feature?

    Read Moan Guide.
Disconnect all USB devices and see if boot delay will persist.
Check storages cables(data&power) and jumper configurations, make sure that they are jumper-ed properly.

  • BIOS Post Error Beeps on P7N Diamond

Hello. I have had this board for a few days now. I was playing a windows game and got a BSOD after a few minutes. The PC rebooted and I noticed the BIOS Post beeps were different. Before this there was just one long beep, which my research tells me that everything is ok. Now when I boot up I get 3 beeps ... 1 long, followed by 2 short. I researched this as well and found the following in my situation. According to AMI BIOS Beep Codes:
1 long, 2 short - Failure in video system An error was encountered in the video BIOS ROM, or a horizontal retrace failure has been encountered.
I'm not sure what this means exactly. It suggests 2 possible errors. Does this mean my video card is bad (8800GTS 512MB)? I have no idea what the second possible error ... retrace failure ... means. I am hoping that you might shed some light on this. Much appreciated.
    My setup:

I also get the faint short beeps after the initial louder long beep but I never associated this with usb devices or really attached any significance to it.
UPDATE:  Ram MEMTEST86+ for 8 hours - no errors.
Replaced the USB keyboard connector with normal keyboard - and using a single tethered USB mouse - get 1 beep on startup.
Put in USB keyboard - get two beeps on startup.
Put in USB remote wireless mouse and get 3 beeps on startup....
Conclusion:  Beeps seem to be USB related not error related.
Sierra2 below- the office deskietop being refurbished...
Added USB extension cable to link to the Dell Screen; and then connected a other couple of UBS devices to the three open ports on the board and one to the Screen [Screen is not USD2 - other ports are USB2]
    Apacer MultiCard Reader
    Wireless Mouse
    Wireless Keyboad and
    an extra USB [tethered] mouse.
All was fine until I added the 5th USB device - and then thought it was just missing the mouse driver - but on reboot -  heard a few more beeps [didnt listen that closely post midnight] and got various stops eventually getting through to WIN.  Then it went bellyup unstable and kept rebooting - unpredictably and  intermittently but within 5 to 10 min of each windows adventure.
Removed all but the wireless keboard and the tethered mouse - and it has settled down - but am now getting three short beeps at the start.  In setting this up yesterday - no beeps at all with a USB mouse and standard keyboard connector.  Sound at start is maybe one beep and two short ones or three short ones - neither of us listening can tell.  I guess I need to hook up the case speaker as the board speaker is pretty small.
AMI BIOS beeps diagnostix says it is likely a faulty RAM error on 2 or 3 beeps
But now, seeing this about the P7N Diamond, I am beginning to wonder if it is a USB related issue.  Maybe too many USB devices.  P4M900 has 2 x 2ports.  Just wondering if adding more than 4 USD devices really cause unstability??  Will run MEMTEST86+ on the RAM this evening to check.  Totally wierd- especially for a supposedly stable and simple board...  Thanks for any ideas...  k2

  • No "use passphrase" option in X220 BIOS, and no HDD Password portability

My goal is to set an HDD password to an Intel SSD drive, that can be unlocked both on the X220, and also on another computer, so the data on the drive are not tied to a particular machine in case of hardware failure.
I found on the forum that the "use passphrase" option in some older thinkpad BIOSes allows exactly this HDD password portability. When this option is disabled on a T60, I can set a HDD password, that can unlock the drive both on the T60 itself (that's expected!), and also on another Dell desktop. So far so good...
The problem is that this option is not available in the X220 BIOS (version 1.26), and as a consequence, there's is no  way to set an HDD password on the X220 that is recognized on the T60 and/or the Dell desktop. So I assume the option just got removed to avoid confusion, and the default behaviour is now to always "use passphrase".
I found a reference about a password length of 7 characters in the x220 user manual, page 92 : "If you set a hard disk password of over seven characters, the hard disk drive can be used only with a computer that can recognize a hard disk password of over seven characters." I tried to set a single letter HDD password, but even in this case the HDD password cannot be unlocked on another machine. So in my experience, there's no difference based on the HDD password length.
so my question is : is there a way to set an HDD password so the drive can be unlocked not just on the X220, but on another box.

Well, then ideally, it would be great if the "use passphrase" option could be added in a future BIOS update for the X220, just like this option seems to exist on another recent thinkpad model (for example the W510,https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Can-t-remove-HDD-password/td-p/241538), so the user has the two choices:
    - use the more-secure-because-hashed-in-an-undocumented-way passphrase as HDD password (with the consequence that a drive locked this way can only be unlocked on the same model of thinkpad)
    or
    - use the less-secure-because-passed-unmodified-to-the-drive HDD password (but compatible with BIOS from other manufacturers).

  • X220 - no post and green light around power button flashes every 3 - 4 second

We bought around 40 of these X220 I5 before xmas and now more than 20 of them have failed. The company we bought them from tried everything but they ended up switching the mainboard on the first two that failed.
We were told it was a batch issue with the serial number R9-HNXXX and now all of those are changed into T420. But today we had the same problem with serial number R9-HXXXX that was bought two weeks earlier and with different config - I7 and SSD. All of them with the same problem that is described in subject. Are there any known batch issues?
The problem is not with the tablet version and sorry for posting in the wrong forum.

    All,
Thanks - interesting experiences.   Could you each send me a private message with any additional details including the model type and serial number of the units?  We can look into this.
Also, as the discussion continues, please include more details about what BIOS version you are running, any updates that were recently applied, etc.   Please also describe the symptoms - does everyone have the blinking power indicator?
If you reset by pulling the battery & AC and pressing and holding power button several times for several seconds, then re-attaching AC, does the system restart?  No video?  Any beeps?
Lastly, if you are seeing a high percentage of failures of your install base, please contact your account rep so that we can get the right level of resource involved to help resolve this.   If you have a single system, please call service if you are unable to reset the system.
    Thanks!
