X220 Factory Reset - After Upgrade to Win 8 Professional

Greetings All!
I purchased X220 Lenevo tablet one and half year back. It shipped with Windows 7 Professional. In June 2013 I purchased Windows 8 Professional and upgraded my system from Windows 7 professional to Windows 8 professional.
I keen to revert to Windows 7 Professional for several good reason but am unable to do the same. When I pressed the F11 key at the begining, Windows is not doing anything. I tried with think Vantage button but still no luck.
Beside this, several applications which has been shipped with tablet is not working as well. Not sure, what could be the reason behind the same.
I neither format the system nor delete the recovery drive which shipped with the product.
Please advise.
With Thanks!
Shyam

if you're trying to change the default boot, the thinkvantage or the the f12 button should do it.
when you turn your computer on, press both repeatedly, you're probably missing the time slot because windows 8 boots so much faster than 7 (and has quickboot enabled by default)
windows 8 can't disable your bios in any way so the boot select is just a matter of speed.
best of luck!

  • System recovery fails after upgrade to Win 8.1 on Satellite L75D-A7283

My elderly uncle forgot the password to his Win 8 user account sometime after upgrading to Win 8.1. He was the administrator, we haven't been able to get Microsoft to reset the account, so I thought to roll back the computer to its factory installation of Win 8.
However, when I try to do that, I get as far as the Reset your PC screen and find that the only target OS is Win 8.1, not the original Win 8. Ok, I accept that. But after choosing to restore Win 8.1, it says "Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing."
I have examined the disk by removing it and attaching it to another computer and find that both the original Win 8 recovery partition and the new Win 8.1 GPT recovery partition are both there. They just don't seem to be accessible.
It seems that the Win 8.1 upgrade has made the original factory recovery partition inaccessible, which is not particularly helpful. We have no recovery disks to work from, so I think my only recourse is to try to get a Win 8 factory recovery disk from Toshiba, but I wondered if anyone else has a suggestion? Thanks.

It's my understanding the upgrade does not modify any other partitions while upgrading Windows itself. Seems likely something else is wrong.
If you did not create recovery media before and cannot do so now, then obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here.
All the information in the section Recovering the Internal Storage Drive, which begins on p. 53 of the User's Guide, should still be applicable.

  • After upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1 my DVD RAM GT80N SATA Drive is no longer working

After upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1 my  DVD RAM GT80N SATA Drive is no longer recognizing discs. When I first put a disc in the drive runs for a bit and then stops. I've tried updating the driver but it says it has the most current driver. Under manage, it does not show any error codes and it says it is working correctly. I've looked at the regedit and it does not have any of upper and lower filters. I've tried disabling, rebooting, and reenabling. What am I missing? Another issue I've had since upgrading is that my network adapter needs reset several times a day in order to remain connected to wifi.

  • X220 Problems after upgrade to Win 8 Pro

     Hi all,
Two weeks ago I upgraded OS on my ThinkPad X220 (model 428759G, BIOS 1.37) to Windows 8 Pro X64. After upgrade I did “factory reset” (function of Windows 8), because I preferred clean installation.
Then there were installed all updates via Windows Update service. After that I installed drivers and software from Lenovo via Lenovo System Update and Avira Antivirus Premium 2013.
Now I deal with the a few problems.
    1) Every day (several times a day) this service C:\Program Files\Lenovo\Lenovo Mobile Hotspot\LnvHotSpotSvc.exe stops working. More information is below (sorry for Czech language).

    2) From this webpage http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-77280 I downloaded and installed the Hotkey Features Integration (version 3.84.1500). But not all of FN keys work properly.
For example Fn+F8 doesn’t switch off touchpad or trackpoint, FN+F5 doesn’t switch off Bluetooth or WiFi – only both of them are switched off (via Airplane mode in Windows 8). If I want to switch off Bluetooth I can do it via controls in Windows 8. But I don’t understand why Bluetooth light is still on.
    3) Sometimes if laptop is woke up from sleep or hibernation mode, the system service ntoskrnl.exe (NT Kernel & System) uses CPU with 30% (fan is on high speed).  Only restart fixes this problem.
    Does anyone have similar problems?

Mobile hotspot error confirmed (but not important for me ).
Keys are working fine for me. BUT: I use old driver for Windows 7. The new one from January, 18th with Windows 8 look works as you described.

  • BIAS SoundSaver Input Level Not Working after upgrade from Win 8 to 8.1

Have been using BIAS SoundSaver for INport software to digitize music LPs and cassette tapes to load on MP3 player.  Worked fine with Windows 8.  However, now that I have upgraded to Win 8.1, I can get sound of LPs and cassette tapes but the Input Level that controls the recording level on the software no longer functions.  My computer is an HP ENVY Phoenix h9-1355 Desktop Computer with IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. I am wondering if the problem may be with the audio drivers installed on the computer.

  • After upgrading from win 7 - win 8, do I really need the win 7 recovery partition?

    Hello.
I'm a happy camper after upgrading my HP Spectre XT from win 7 to win 8 (Win 8 upgrade offer). The 128GB SSD disks just makes everything so smooth and fast.
However I am abit annoyed with the Win 7 recovery partition that still uses 20 GB of my total 128GB space.
I have tried searching the forums, as well as the www for any good answers, but I end up more confused.
So I am asking the community some questions that interests me, and hopefully you can provide me with some meaningsful answers
    1. Can I now delete my win 7 recovery partition, and if so what is the most effiecient and safe way to do it?
    2. Is there a a good way to make sure that if (heaven forbid) something would happen, I still would be able to recover my notebook preferably to win 8, and not the preinstalled OEM win 7?
    3. Of course the Spectre XT has no optical drive, so if its doable I might need to make an win 8 recovery partition in the end. Is it possible?

You can use Windows builtin Disk Management to delete the partition, or EaseUS software. Both procedures are outlined at EaseUS site:
    http://www.partition-tool.com/resource/windows-8-partition-manager/delete-windows-8-partition.htm
As for a Recovery option after deleting, look at System Imaging which is builtin Windows 8 also. You need an external USB hdd for this.

  • Can't activate secure boot after upgrading from Win 7 to Win 8 on a Spectre XT

    Hi everybody,
my first post here, so please forgive me if the topic has already been discussed
I did search before posting anyway, but I couldn't found anything addressing this specific point.
My (small, I must admit) problem is as follows:
    I recently purchased a Spectre XT 13-2005tu (i7 processor, 4Gb RAM, 256Gb SSD) with Windows 7 pre-installed.
After installing my favourite applications and using it for a few weeks without any trouble, I thought to take the opportunity of the $14.99 upgrade to Win 8, so I downloaded Windows 8 Pro and installed it (as an upgrade, rather than a fresh installation, because I didn't want to loose the customizations I already made).
I also installed all the updates available on HP website (sp59158 for updated BIOS, sp58404 for UEFI support, ecc.)
The whole upgrade worked nicely, and the PC is now up and running with Win 8.
Now, I'm trying to use at best all the possibilities Win 8 has to offer, and among them, the UEFI secure boot.
I found the "legacy support" option in the BIOS settings, which as I understand must be disabled to activate the UEFI secure boot, but if I do that the PC tells that there's no operating system on the disk and doesn't boot anymore.
Which was a bit scary by the way, but eventually I could re-enable the legacy support in the BIOS and have the PC working again, but of course with no secure boot.
I suppose there must be some other re-configuration that should be done before changing the BIOS parameter, but I couldn't find any instruction for that anywhere on the web.
On the other hand, it would be indeed weird if the secure boot could not be configured AFTER the OS upgrade, and a new fresh installation would be necessary.
I'd rather part with the secure boot than re-install everything, but that would be a shame... :-(
I hope someone can explain what should be done, many thanks in advance!

Thanks for your feedback, but I don't think your issue is the same as the one I previously explained.
The UEFI/secure boot setting is a basic configuration affecting the way the PC boots, regardless of whether it is connected to a network or not.
By the way, in the meantime I've seen in a shop exactly the same PC model which I'm using, now sold with Win 8 pre-installed, and it was working with the UEFI enabled (= BIOS "legacy support" disabled).
Therefore, the configuration I'm interested in has to be feasible, one way or another...!

  • Factory reset after power off

I use Cisco switch sg300-28. When i turn it off and turn on, it reset to factory reset include login password, dose it normal operation or I miss anything?
    Thank you.
Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPad App

Hello Jerry, the SX300 series switches have a running configuration and a start up configuration. For the switch to retain settings, you must save the running config to the startup otherwise all settings will be lost.
After making a change there is a blinking save icon on the top right. You may click this and follow the windows. In addition, you can go to Admin -> File Managemenet -> Copy File and save there as well.

  • Do I need PSE Catalog to re-install after upgrade to Win 8.1?

I was running PSE 11 on Win 7.
    I did a PSE backup.
Upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8.1.
    Reinstalled PSE 11.
But I haven't started the app yet.
All of my photos are in the correct folders.
    I have the PSE backup.
What do I do next? If I start PSE can I get it to rebuild a new catalog by using the info in the backup?
Or is there a better approach?
I only use one catalog. I have about 9,000 pictures in it.
Thanks for any help or advice.

In the newly reinstalled PSE, open the organizer, use the catalog manager (menu File / catalogs...) and see if you have one or several catalogs; a new empty 'My catalog' may have been created, but the old one may still be there in the same default location.
If that does not work, after setting the explorer to show hidden folders, do an explorer search for files named : catalog.pse11db. You may find the old catalog if it has not been wiped in the Win update. Simply double click on that file which will open the organizer with the corresponding catalog.
If you don't find such files, in the catalog manager choose the 'restore backup' option and restore to original location and keeping the folder structure.

  • Help with transfer of music after upgrade to Win 7

I upgraded to Win 7 from Vista, which caused the loss of all my current files etc. I had a current backup (on a sep external HD as well as online) of my itunes before I did this, BUT I failed to consolidate the itunes.
Now I have nothing in my itunes but I have lots of folders under "my music" with subfolders including itunes again, itunes music, itunes media, previous itune libraries, etc, etc.
I'm really unclear, after reading several articles about recreating my library and moving my music and so on. Do I need to consolidate now? Would this help put everything where it is suppose to be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In Windows 7 all the files in iTunes are now in separate folders in iTunes Media so you get mobile apps, music, movies, podcasts etc. I don't know how Vista files were structured but on XP you found movies and podcasts as folders within the music folder.
You can also have folders 'duplicated' in that they can also be visible within another folder. I unknowingly had my iTunes folder stored in both My Music and My Pictures.
Rather than consolidate from the Edit menu choose preferences, go to the Advanced tab. In the top box you will see the location of your files (in my case it is Music\iTunes\iTunes Media), tick 'Keep iTunes Media Folder Organised' and 'Copy files to iTunes Media when adding to library' which should ensure future files go to the right place (and I believe sorts the existing files out.)
