X220 - Headset and Mic Adaptor for combo port

Hello, I want to be able to record my external microphone along with hearing using the headphones on this laptop. Because the connection is a combo port, It means I need an adaptor of some sorts.
I've tried this one:
http://www.theheadsetbuddy.com/PC-Headset-to-35mm-Phone_c36.htm
And I'm not sure if its the cable or the pc - It's very picky, with me able to record at low levels... With funny behaviour like heading part of the microphone in my headphones, and it takes me twisting the connection to get a balance between appearing as "not connected" and somehow working, to putting out a loud static noise and appearing as connected.

found the problem. In the Smart audio settings, the speaker "tab" has an option for classic stream, or multi stream. The multistream in its description seems to be for having sound independant in the speakers and headphone. It also messes up the microphone, perhaps combining the two (internal and external?)
Changing that to classic, enabled all of the cables to work properly. Woohoo!

  • Best quality external mic adaptor for iPod

I am looking at two external mic adaptors for a fourth generation iPod. One is iTalk and iTalk Pro from Griffin. The other is the Universal Mic Adapter for iPod by Belkin. If anyone with a fourth generation iPod has any experience with either of these adapters they would like to share with me, I would love to hear from you. If anyone with my model iPod has a good experience with another mic adapter I would also love to hear about that.
I tried a M-Audio and was not happy. I tried a Sony digital recorder and was not happy. So this is my next attempt to get a simple small recording device for quick song sketches and the like. I use my video for anything serious.
    Thanks.

I think you mean the 4G iPod's internal mic is poor.
Most mics and headphone/mic combos that plug into the headphone jack work just fine.  Apple seles one.

My Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic White For iPhone says: made in vietnam right in the cord. i want to know if they are OEM? here my email: [email protected], thanks.

Accidental damage is not covered under the warranty but if possible to reset the screen without causing additional damage, the Apple Store should do this without charging for it.

  • DIM and ODI adaptors for Planning

    Hi,
I wish to know that DIM adaptor for Planning and ODI adaptor for planning can work with only Classic planning applications ? Are they not able to work with EPM Planning application ?
    Thanks
    Edited by: user641864 on Mar 30, 2009 12:01 AM

ODI can extract data from essbase with a knowledge module and I believe DIM lets you create report scripts to extract data.
These are both using the essbase adaptors and not the planning adaptor.

  • Mic adaptor for touch 3G?

sorry if this has been dealt with before, i did do a search, but it didn't turn up the answer.
i have a nice stereo mic with a minijack connector and i'm wondering if there's an adaptor i can buy for my 3g touch, so i can use it with voice memo etc. there are a few nice mics about specifically for the touch, but it would be much cheaper for me to buy an adaptor and use my existing microphone!
    many thanks

Thanks. Let me see if I get this straight: the reason not to use the iPhone 3G in the universal dock is that the universal dock is so wide that the iPhone 3G might wobble in there and break or bend a pin?
The iPhone 3G DOES work with the UNIVERSAL dock! This dock comes with multiple adaptors to fit various iPods, original iPhone and iPhone 3G. I don't know if it yet comes supplied with the iPhone 3G adaptor, but these can be bought separately from the Apple Store.
And same question for the original iPhone's dock that had a slot for the Bluetooth earpiece: is the reason not to use it that the 30-pin connector won't connect with the old dock's receptacle, or is because the bay is too wide to hold it firmly in place?
The original iPhone dedicated and combo (with BT set) doesn't fit the iPhone 3G and doesn't accept adaptors. Some users have physically modified them to work as described in a earlier post.

  • USB adapter for Apple Earphones that will let you use both audio and mic simultaneously for a phone conversation?

I like the Apple Earphones (the iPhone headphone with audio, mic and remote) but I hate to keep plugging it on and off my Macbook Air. So I heard the only way to fix that is to buy a USB headphone so you can switch it on and off through software. Problem is that I like my Apple Earphones and I want to keep using it but now through USB. Is there a USB adaptor that will work with the Earphone, in other words, that will make both headphone and mic work at the same time for a phone conversation?

  • HDX 16 Headset and Mic problem in Vista64

    Good afternoon,
I have a long-standing problem with my e-dimensional AudioFX headset and my HP HDX 16, vista64 laptop. The issue is:
I cannot hear myself speak into the mic from my headset. ie. no sound is being sent from the mic back into the headset or external speakers. Everything else works just fine. My ventrilo partners can hear me and I can hear them. I just cannot hear myself.
When I plug the headset into my older Windows XP Pro machine, it works perfectly. I hear all ambient sound from the mic in my headset.
This is really difficult to work this way. I have tried disabling the AndreaElectronics microphone enhancements but this has not worked. I have tried adjusting the recording and playback properties many many times and many different ways but still can't get ambient sounds to feed back into the headset. I am reluctant to fool around with the IDT Audio drivers/services.
Can anyone offer some guidance/troubleshooting help? I'm totally out of ideas now.
    Regards,
    Starsider

    Update:
I think I have found the solution but it was for a similar problem on a Dell machine. Here is the link to that forum:
    http://forums.techarena.in/vista-hardware-devices/865259.htm
I think the solution involves enabling mic monitoring in the registry but I don't know exactly how to do it. If there are any registry experts reading this, I would greatly appreciate your help. I am reluctant to make any registry changes per the instructions in the link above since that was for a Dell computer and my registry is slightly different from the instructions given.
My exact model is the HP HDX 16 running Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Model number X-16 1155CA.

  • I have iMac G5.  Need VGA adaptor for display port.

I have an old iMac Power Mac G5 8.2.  I need a VGA adapter for display port so we can use it in our TV studio in my elementary school.  What kind do I need to get?
    Mini-DVI and mini-display don't fit.

    2nd Display Support:
    Mirroring Only*
    2nd Max. Resolution:
    1024x768*
    Details:
Apple reports that this system has a "VGA output port for video mirroring on an external display or projector", and supports output resolutions of "640 x 480 pixels at 60Hz, 800 x 600 pixels at 75Hz and 1024 x 768 pixels at 75Hz". However, the hardware is capable of using an external display in dual or "extended desktop mode", Apple just blocked the capability in firmware to protect sales of more expensive Macs. Unsupported third-party hacks are available.

    The port is actually Mini-VGA...

  • Use headset and Mic at the same time

The latest MacBook Pro does not come with Mic port. How can I use my professional Mic for audio recording and my editor can listen the recording through headset at the same time.

Oh, but the Retina was irresistible....  The regulars have digital and analog audio input and output.
So, ample pocketed Mac users get to choose between audio input/output adapters that plug into the USB or the Thunderbolt ports.

  • Headset and mic ?'s regarding PC to PC phone calls

    Fellow Appleonians,
Haven't had to post in a long time. Testament to the user-friendliness of Apple products. Anyway my question: I have a ibook dual usb 500 mgz that has an internal mic. I would like to use yahoo messenger to make free PC to PC phone calls. Do I need to buy a headset? Would it have to have mic and headset jacks (my ibook has a headset jack but no mic jack, I think) like the ones I see for sale? Any help would be deeply appreciated by myself and wallet. Thanks. MM

I do iChat audio conferencing all the time with my 12' Al G4 with Tiger. I simply use the built-in mic and the built-in speakers and everything works fine - I suspect yahoo messenger will work the same way. Try using what you have first - if that doesn't work out - THEN look at buying a headset.
BTW, keep in mind you really can't both talk at the same time.

  • How do I set MacBook to an external display when the plug and play doesn't recognize it?  I am trying to set my Samsung 530 LCD as a monitor but HDMI and VGA cords (and the adaptor for them) doesn't seem to work.

I have tried everything I can find on line but they all claim that the plug and play works, and they don't for me.  I tried the mini dvi to HDMI and a HDMI cord and that was not recognized no matter which unit I rebooted first.  I found someone who said that my Macbook might be too old for the HDMI technology so I returned the cords and went to the VGA cord and adaptor.
I tried this first with the HDMI setup:

Then I tried this with the VGA setup:
    http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/iframe/pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx= 167901&modelname=LN40C650L1F&modelcode=&session_id=NDhJrD0DQT0Z8KRsm62yhxJxqnyPy SKhlhpB8vQ6h9Q7R2BZJGzj!-1089109758!1761676444!7501!-1!434477884!1761676348!7501 !-1!1292098185857
I contacted Samsung support and they said I needed to set the display settings to external display on the mac.  I went to the display settings and moved the icon to my status bar.  When I click on search for displays or whatever it says (I'm not at my Mac right now) it does nothing.
    What am I missing?

I am using MAC OSx 10.5.8 (9L31a) as my operation system.  The TV says "No signal.  Check connected device's power, cable connection and source selection."  Seems to me that that goes in hand with what the Samsung tech said about the Mac needing to be forces to use the external display.  But how do I do that?

  • Home Screen and mic on iPod touch 2G

My little brother has an iPod touch 2G and he wants to have home screen backgrounds on it, as well as multitasking. His iPod doesnt support these featurees in iOS 4, and  I heard somewhere that if you insert a strand of code into the 'SpringBoard' file on the iPod, (I have Windows XP) that you can set homescreen backgrounds.
Another thing is that we have tried many different headsets and mics on his iPod, but none have worked. Also, when you plug any kind of headset/headphone in, the sound still plays through the speaker as well as the headphones. He most importantly wants a mic for some VoIP apps he has.
    -Please help,  thanks.

    - The first question can't be discussed here.  It violates the lience that you agreed to with Apple.
    - The problem with the mics/headphones is likely due to a problem with the jack in the iPod.  Try to following to eliminate a softer problem:
    - Reset, Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.
If you still have the probem it is likely do to a jack hardware problem.

  • Does iSight mic work for garageband?

My internal mic is broken, I was looking for a fast solution and the guy at mac store told me that since I have a iSight camera, I could use my iSight(cuz there's a camera and mic both) for Garageband to record. I went to open my Garageband>Preferences>Audio"MIDI to change the audio setting from Built-in Audi to iSight. I can see iSight when I select Audio Input, but it's ghosted and shows "iSight(not 44.1)"
What does this mean? And can my iSight work as a external mic for my Garageband?
    Could someone please advise me?
    Thank you.

  • Once and for all please help compatible headsets with mic 2 use wSkpe

I have been searching, on this Forum about this subject but cannot get a straight answer. I'm tired making my Skype calls using the speaker on my Mac. I got several headsets including one with separate plugs, one for audio and other for mic. It didn't work.
I also was told that I should get any USB based headset. I've seen some advertised including the one at the Apple store, way too expensive. Any suggestion where I could find a compatible headset and which model

Believe it or not, even though I own a 24" I alway try to keep my expenses to a minimal. I posted my question on the Skype's forum and was able to get some help.
I am now able to use the same headset (not usb based) to work, and now I'm using it flawless, and I didn't have to buy a headset from the The Apple Store or Skype. I paid $12.00 at Fry's electronics....
