X220 IPS replace under warranty--why is it so difficult?

Hello all,
I have an X220 that is still under warranty with the IPS panel. Recently, my screen started suffering from the "vertical bands" that seem to be semi-common on this model. I have removed the panel and reseated the cables and still has not corrected the issue. From what I understand, this is a problem with the panel itself.
Now, I've tried to submit a warranty request to learn that IBM still apparently handles these. That form was maddening. I have not received any email correspondence on the issue, but suddenly today an empty box showed up my house and apparently they want me to send the whole laptop back. I do NOT want to do that, I just need a replacement screen. Can anyone help me with the right way to process this request? It's very frustrating. Thanks

You can very well send the machine in with no hard drive.
Supervisor/BIOS passwords, however, should be removed altogether or provided, otherwise no one will be able to work on your machine.
Cheers,
George

If my carrier unlocked my iPhone and it needs to be replaced under warranty. Do apple sends an unlocked phone. Or I have to get it unlocked again from carrier.

Once Carrier unlocks any iPhone, this is entered in to Apples data base. Therefore, as replacement under warranty you get unlocked iPhone.

I'll let you in on a bit of a secret.  Apple retail staff (Specialists, Geniui and Floor Mangers) have a great deal of leeway when it comes to customer appeasement.  When rapport breaks down, the customer is less likely to enjoy that leeway.  Chances are, no matter who made the intial call, it will be reinforced regardless of how high it goes up the supervisory chain.
The item you went in for retails for $19.  They probably misplace four or five of them each day.  If they sent you home without one, there was likely a good reason for that.

  • IPhone 5 replacement under warranty.

My iPhone 5 IMEI no says it is purchased from USA whereas I had bought it in Hong Kong. It's still under warranty. The Sleep/wake button is not working and I would like to know whether can I get a replacement under warranty at an Apple store in Singapore? I reside in India and there are no Apple Stores located here. Nearest to me is Singapore. Kindly help.

The iPhone or any Apple product is something I would strongly suggest only buying from Apple or an Apple authorised reseller (all of which can be found by looking them up by country/region on the Apple web site).  This forum has many similar stories of someone hoping to get a bargain or beat the crush of a new release, only to be left with nothing but an empty wallet.  Sorry it happened, but buyer beware I'd say.

  • How to get a macbook pro replacement under warranty?

I bought my Macbook pro 6 months ago, and it's still under warranty right now. I used some laptops of SONY VAIO & Microsoft before, and I did not experience any problems with them in the first 2 years. This year, I decided to give Macbook pro a try because I have heard many compliments about this laptop from my friends and advertisements. When I opened the box and used it in the 1st time, I noticed that the button CAPS LOCK wasn't good, and I had to press it 2-3 times to make it work. It has happened for 6 months, until now. I felt a little bit disappointed, but I still use it because I am an easy customer. But recently, whenever I turn on the SLEEP MODE for my laptop and work with my laptop later on, my laptop often experiences the PAUSE or freezing. I don't know how to describe it, but there is a round circle with rainbow colors appear on the screen and pause everything/programs is running. My laptop has never been felt out or scratch. It's just 6 months since the day I purchased the laptop. I should not experience this trouble with my laptop because I think the Macpro is better than the SONY VAIO or other laptops. I feel like I was sold a refurbished Mac, and I am really disappointed. My friend told me to bring my Mac to be fixed in Apple store, but I don't want to continue using a fixed, refurbished Mac. Can I get a replacement? If I bought it in Bestbuy, could I got replacement in Apple Store or Bestbuy store?

    Can I get a replacement?
    No - see below

You are still under warranty.  Call Apple Care. Make sure you get a case number as all repairs have an additional 90 days of warranty.
#1 - You have 14 days from the date of purchase to return your computer with no questions asked.
#2 - You have 90 days of FREE phone tech support.
#3 - You have the standard one year Apple warranty.
#4 - If you've purchased an AppleCare Protection Plan, your warranty last for 3 years.   You can obtain AppleCare anytime up to the first year of the purchase of your computer.
Take FULL advantage of your warranty.  Posting on a message board should be done as a last resort and if you are out of warranty or Apple Care has expired.

  • How do I get an invoice re-sent from a Genius Bar for a handset replaced under warranty?

I took my iPhone 5 into a Genius Bar for a speaker issue. I was immediately emailed an invoice for the repair under warranty and told to come back in an hour. After an hour, they decided to replace the handset completely under warranty, but I don't have an email invoice relating to this replacement. The new handset needs to now be repaired under my carrier insurance, but they need to see an invoice from apple with the new handset's IMEI written on it.
Since I live a few hours away from a Genius Bar I really don't want to go in person just to ask for an invoice to be sent. Is there another way?
I have looked on my account at the online apple store and it's not there.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? It was just over 6 months ago in the Carindale store in QLD.
    Thanks!
    Jo

You will need to call or visit the Apple Store and ask if they can resend the invoice. They're the only ones who can help you.
    Regards.

  • How to file a claim with phone that was already replaced under Warranty

I bought the Droid 4 originally in February of 2012 well in January of 2013 the power button stopped working completely and one day it died and I had no way of turning it on. I was it was still under the warranty so Verizon replaced it. I received a refurbished Droid 4 and it worked great until the 18th of this month, the battery will not charge, when the phone is plugged in it just displays the battery with a big question mark inside and will not turn on when plugged in so I'm sitting on a useless phone, since the Droid 4 has a mounted battery. I suspended the service today and I tried to start a claim so I'd know how much to save up to pay the deductible when replacing under my Total Equipment Coverage insurance and when I put the purchase date was January 18th, 2013 it says that it's still under warranty but I thought that the refurbished phones were just 30 days or 90 days and then it goes up to Asurion. I just want to know if that was the correct purchase date since that's when I got the replaced phone or if I should have put the February 2012 date, and do I call Verizon now or Asurion's customer service to replace my phone. I'm so confused, any help would be appreciated.

  • IPhone 4 replaced under warranty with refurb

I have been having problems with my "home" button for a few weeks.  Now, in addition I'm having battery issues (charge all day, use for a few hours and overnight the battery drains).  My carrier is Verizon.  I spoke with them (I pay monthly for insurance and do NOT have Apple Care).  They have agreed to replace my existing device with a refurb under warranty.  Should I have purchased the Apple Care? Is there any instance (either through Apple or my carrier) where a phone is replaced with a NEW and not refurbed device? Thanks all for any help!  I love my phone and want to stay with Apple but I'm thinking I may have as many problems with a refurb as I do a new phone.

The iPhone includes a one year warranty. The AppleCare extended warranty extends the standard one year warranty by an additional year.
Per Apple's written warranty, an exchange under warranty will be a new or refurbished iPhone with no way to tell the difference. The exchange under warranty remains under the same warranty as the iPhone that was exchanged.

  • Can I get my 3GS battery replaced under warranty?

Just purchased a 3GS off my friend, warranty runs out in November 2011 - done the usual restore, turn of everything etc. and the battery life is still pretty bad... Is it worth taking it in while it's still in warranty? What's the chance of getting a replacement unit?

If it's still under warranty and Apple confirms that the problem is indeed a defect, then your changes of a replacement are 100%. So yes, it's definitely worth taking in.
    Regards.

  • Can my water damaged iPhone still be replaced under warranty if it had a problem before the water damage?

My iPhone 5 is still under a year old and it fell in the toilet for a few seconds about 3 days ago.
I know the apple warranty doesn't cover water damage. The liquid damage indicator in the SIM slot hasn't turned red.
Around March this year I noticed that some faint spots appeared in my photos taken by the rear camera and I've read that this type of damage could get you an instant replacement of your iPhone, I just never got around to taking it to the apple store. I have those photos saved so I can prove that this problem happened a while ago.
I've had my now water damaged iPhone in a rice bag for three days, however I have been charging it a little to turn it on every so often to check on it. It seems to be getting better, but the screen is still "fuzzy" and the touch is a bit "jumpy" and not as responsive as before. So I'm worried I might have damaged the screen or motherboard or something and I don't know what to do?
If I go into the apple store and tell them about the camera problem from before would they give me a new iPhone? or will they not accept it because of the water damage?
I really can't afford a new iPhone or a refurbished one even, so what's the best thing to do?
    thanks in advance.

No.  Your warranty is void due to the water damage
You can buy a replacement for $229

  • Anyone ever have lcd screen replaced under warranty?

We've had our ipod for less than 1 month and the lcd screen is now showing garbage although the exterior of the screen and surrounding case does not show any damage at all. We don't know what happened to it. My son carries it in a case in his pockets but has not dropped it or damaged it in any way. Has anyone else had this problem and have you been successful in getting Apple to replace the screen under the initial warranty?
    ipod G5   Other OS

    They might replace it.
You have a much bette rchance if there is no damage on teh outside (such as a dent where it might look like you dropped/smashed it).
I suggest you take it to an Apple store if there's one close by. Be assertive (not rude) and don't take "no" for an answer.
You could send it back but if you talk directly with someone, you'll have a better chance.
