X220 jpg color problem

Hello,
Am using X220 Windows 7 for few years with no major problems.
Recently while trying to print jpg files the colors became totally different. It seems to be unrelated to the printer device itself (and actually the picture is displayed with totally wrong colors once going into print mode).
Example: 1/  jpg photo is displayed correctly in Windows Photo Viewer.  2/  In the "print window" the reduced photo will show already in wrong colors. Never mind which printer is chosen.   3/  print itself will be with wrong colors. Same is correct for all printers on the list, incl. pdf printer.
Color management show that the default profile ("Lenovo Thinkpad LCD Monitor, TPLCD.icm") is being used.
I believe it is the same as was used all along when the problem didn't exist.
Note: Windows updates are applied regularly. Also Lenovo's (important) updates were implemented periodically. Thank you in advance for any help.
Gil

Thank you for your answer John!
PDF was created in Illustrator CS3(not by me)
I imported PDF to Photoshop and save as a JPG(using option save for web),(I have sRGB option unselect)
I tried viewing file as CYMK, RGB...not difference at all after saving as JPG, still there is color difference....
In Photoshop CS3 I have color setting:
After your advice
I re-saved PDF with new settings as you said, the result is better but still colors are a bit different.
Thank you.

  • Converting .NEF to .JPG color problem

When I convert a .NEF picture to .JPG the color is significantly desaturated.  I know JPG is highly compressed from NEF and figured the color loss was a result of the compression, but then I found out I can open the JPG back into Photoshop and the normal color is back.
Alos, I can convert .NEF to .PNG and the color stays normal.
I am trying to get into taking pictures in the Raw format, but this issue is frustrating me.
I would really appreciate any information about this problem.

One last hing to add, since you did not mention how you determined there is a difference between png and jpg. I am going to assume you saw the differences using a web browser, since those formats are common for that app.
Not all browsers treat those file formats the same. Some recognize the color profile and others don't. some may reconize for one format and not the other as well. So to verify it would be best to load them back into photoshop to see if there is a diffence. Also it can make a difference if you use the normal save or save for web as save for web does strip the meta data. I am assuming it strips the color profile as well, but I did not test this so I could easily be wrong. Seams to me I recall CS4 adding an option to specify the color profile, but again I could be wrong.
But if you need the color profile to be correct these are things you will need to verify.

  • X220 Screen Color Problem

Hi have a serious issue with my X220 IPS screen.
after replacing the screen under warranty (flickering) everything was working perfectly.
Then after a couple of month I took my x220 out of my carry on luggage and a band of about 5 cm on the right side of my screen was behaving weirdly (at the beginning it was intermittent but it became soon a constant, stable, problem)
Better than any description you can see the problem by looking at these images:
    Figure 1
    Figure 2
Figure 3 (Good part of the screen)
Figure 4 (Bad part of the screen)
Looks like some of the dark colors are inverted...
What do you think the problem is? LCD panel? Connector cable? MotherBoard? Graphic card(Integrated intel)?
looking forward to hear your opinion and SOLUTION!!!
    Thanks
    Andrea

It's actually not problem of IPS screen, but the problem is with the original non-IPS screen. Lenovo's screen is severely blueish, it has a very bad color accuracy. If you are adopted to the original screen, you will find IPS is warm and not accurate. But I can assure you if you search for benchmarks about the IPS screen, it is a perfect screen in terms of color accuracy. Although not as good as Apple IPS, it has the same level of color accuracy.

  • DNG & Camera Manf. JPG color conversions

IF, a Camera Manf. had a camera that outputs to DNG ... could they imbed in the DNG file ... the "equivelent" of LR "pre-sets" for "there" JPG Color conversion.
    * So, In LR at a click of a Pre-set listing you could see what the Camera Manf. JPG out of the camera would be like. (if you "would have" shot this DNG in JPG) ... and then you could do a compair.
Or maybe you would "just" run it as a choice on import ... as a starting point, or when in a rush a result.
    * Just curious ... could this be done?
Is it only me, or could this be a useful productivity feature for LR.
p.s. I do get the fact that you could make your own pre-sets for your camera.

    > "being a designer/distributor myself you are always trying to find ways to make your product (output) different and exclusive ... so yes, having a Generic DNG and making "my" product/output a commodity would not be my first choice either".
I used to help design large, complicated, multi-supplier computer systems. I sometimes got involved with helping to procure products.
The suppliers would try to make us enthusiastic about their special features. If we procured their products, we would often simply lose those features under an abstraction layer of software - they were unwanted! We needed interchangeable components. Call it "commodity" if you like - but I don't really agree with that term here. "Commodity" to me implies that it doesn't matter which you choose. "Interchangeable" still leaves other factors to be taken into account.
If Nikon adopted DNG (chuckle!) we wouldn't really claim that a D40 and D80 and D200 and D2Xs were "commodity"! They would still be high quality high value differentiated products.
In fact, camera manufacturers are pretty foolish if they adopt such an attitude. Within weeks of camera launch, all the major raw converter suppliers have reverse-engineered the raw files and camera details enough to be able to perform high quality raw conversions. All essential aspects of the specification are known, and sometimes even published by 3rd parties!
Who do the camera manufacturers think they are hiding information from? Answer: "from 3rd party software companies whose mission is, in effect, to make the images from the camera look as good as possible"! How stupid can camera manufacturers be?
DNG still has ways for camera manufacturers to hold what Adobe call "secret sauce". There may well be limitations in the current specification of DNG that causes problems for some manufacturers - Hasselblad-Imacon apparently had problems. But most manufacturers almost certainly have no such problems - and Pentax shows what CAN be done by a camera manufacturer, (the one who once tried to promote the idea of a universal lens mount), that cares about its users and sees the way the world is moving.

I imported tiff images into Lightroom 4 that were scanned by DigMyPics.com.  The color  of the images look good on the Windows 7 photo viewer.  It looks horrible in Lightroom 4.  My monitor is callibrated, the import develope setting is set to "none" , the box is unchecked "apply auto tone adjustments".   I think that the windows viewer is showing the accurate color of the scan and LR is not.  I don't think DigMyPics would send this awful color.  What could the issue be?

Yes, that certainly looks like a problem with the Lightroom rendering. Skin tones and red in general is clearly off, while Windows Photo Viewer looks good.
I'm almost certain this is a problem with the monitor profile. As troubleshooting, try to set sRGB as monitor profile (or Adobe RGB if your monitor is wide gamut), and see if the difference persists. But try to recalibrate first.
    What calibrator and what monitor?

  • A color problem in Apple's publishing App

I was wondering if you could help me with this problem,I really need some help, and here it is:
There is a Color problem in Mac publishing applications like Pages and Keynote, including iBooks Author, which really confuse me a lot。
When you use a certain color space(sRGB IEC61966-2.1 in this case)to create some colors with Apps like Illustrator CS6,Indesign CS6 & Photoshop CS6 etc. ,they look totally fine。BUT when you use iBooks Author (V2.0)to create the very same color with the very same color space, colors still look fine in the color panel, and here comes the problem:they look totally lousy in the actual document!!In fact, they look much lighter and faded。(See Image 1&2)
    Above:Image 1
    Above:Image 2
And this is also terrible with photos you import。(See Image 3)
    Above:Image 3
Please tell me what I can do to solve this problem。I know maybe this is some sort of “basic” and “general” knowledge, but I really need your help。And I can't thank you enough if you can provide some effective solutions。

As far as I can see,  the colour pallet and how colours are seen in any app on YOUR machine will depend on the computers System Preferences>Displays>Colour - choose your preferred setting.
I suggest first that you ensure that your colour profile settings are the same ( as your computer)  in whatever Adobe application or in fact any outside image processor you use.
Creating or using a colour profile in Adobe and having a different profile on your system - will tend  to  give different colour hues.
A point also to remember is whatever you set up and is  transferred to your product... when seen on an iPad may well be totally different again due to peculiarities and contrast / brighness setting of the iPad user.

  • Pavilion gv laptop colors on monitor color problem

I'm having color problems on my laptop. While the colors on my screen aren't terrible, most of the color/textures appear washed out and muted in comparison to other laptops I own. I've tried adjusting the brightness and calibrating the colors but it didn't fix the problem. I'm not sure what the problem could be. Thank you for your help.

  • Photoshop - Motion - DVDSP Color Problem

This message is crossposted in the Motion Forum because I'm not sure where the solution is to be found...
I'm putting together a dvd and I wanted to create transition animations to go between the menus. I've run into a bit of a color problem, however. To explain:
I created my main menu as a layered photoshop document (8-bit RGB, NTSC colorspace). I brought that menu into Motion, preserving all layers. I animated those layers in motion so that at the end of the animation they were another menu on the dvd, then I exported the last frame of the animation, brought it back into photoshop, and made everything line up so that it precisely matched the final frame of the animation, then saved that PSD as a new layered document. Finally, in DVD Studio Pro, I brought in the two Menu PSDs and the animated transition.
The problem I'm running into is that the color on the transition animation is washed out and somewhat desaturated compared to the menu PSDs. Rather than the seamless transition from layered menu PSD to animation and back to layered menu PSD, you can see this altered color "pop" on the animation.
Here's what I've checked and tried:
-I've exported the motion project as every codec that made any kind of sense (Animation NTSC, Apple Pro Video NTSC, etc).
-I've brought the Motion project directly into DVD Studio Pro, rather than exporting it.
-Using the color inspector in both Photoshop and Motion, I can see that all RGB values match exactly as they should.
-When I exported a frame of the animation and brought it back into Photoshop to create the second layered menu, the color matched exactly. In fact, I did the alignment using the "difference" layer mode, and there was no color shift at all.
    So... any ideas?
Also: I'm going from these layered menus to a video track (first frame matches the layered menu) to another layered menu (matching the final frame of the video track)... that is the most sensible way to have animated transitions between menus, right?
Thanks in advance for any insights.
    -W

Well, I found a solution... DVDSP didn't like the image in NTSC, but it seems to work with Generic RGB, provided I redo all of the animation from scratch using the same Generic RGB PSDs. A bit of a pain, but I suppose that's why I did this test after completing only one of the many animations the project will demand.
    Thanks everyone for the insights.

What is the exact name of the desktop app you have?  Is it "Acrobat Reader DC", "Acrobat Pro DC" or "Acrobat Standard DC"?

  • Nikon D90 RAW/NEF color vs. in-camera JPG color

I'm new to Aperture and also (now) taking more NEF+JPG images.
I've been satisfied with most of my JPGs in the past but I'm taking more RAW images now and finding that they don't match the JPG color when viewed in Aperture 3. When I use ViewNX to tweak RAW images the "starting point" for color and adjustments is much closer to the matching JPG but when I use Aperture, there are obvious differences between the JPG and Aperture's 'conversion' of the RAW image. The listed White Balance is different when Auto WB is used and the histogram is much different. The RAW image isn't a good starting point from which to begin tweaking to improve upon the JPG.
I realize that there are efforts by others to "profile" the Nikon cameras but I'm surprised that Aperture is so far off the mark. Both iPhoto and Photoshop Elements seem to do a better job.
    (The latest ACR is installed.)

I suppose it depends on what in-camera processing you're doing (Normal, Vivid, active D-lighting, etc). What you're seeing on the screen, and in ViewNX is edits applied to the jpeg embedded in the RAW file.
The RAW will always look different from the jpeg, because the RAW has absolutely no processing done to it. iPhoto should look identical to Aperture as I believe it uses the same RAW processing. PSE/Lightroom/PS all use ACR, and they should all look the same, but will likely look somewhat different from iPhoto and Aperture.
I generally just keep my D80 on Normal (and it doesn't have active D-lighting, but I can selectively add D-lighting in the edit menu if I choose (I don't)), and I find that a small .05 bump to Contrast, .1 to Definition, .05-.1 to Saturation, and .1 to Vibrance is about exactly what I see on the camera screen. It's a good starting point, and I just created a preset I apply to every image I import (had a very similar preset in Lightroom).
One thing you could do is set up a tripod, set your camera to RAW+Jpeg, and go through each of the color modes, and active D-light modes. Once you get those into Aperture, you can tweak the RAW to match it's Jpeg, and save that as a preset. Then the next time you're out shooting, when you bring in your RAW images, you can just apply whatever preset (Normal, Softer, Vivid, etc) to them, and you'll have a starting point matching the out of camera Jpegs.
I'm actually planning on doing just that for my D80, and eventually when I upgrade to a D300 doing the same for it.

  • Epson 2200 Color problem solved...I think

I have read the posts on the color problems with 10.6 and the EP 2200. I too had the same issues after installing 10.6 this evening. After much teeth grinding and some choice words I set about solving my printing problem.
The Gutenprint driver has the same problems GIMP had. It isn't really printer specific, as in all the options you once had. I would rather have no driver than have this lame piece of software automatically installed. Gutenprint will make the printer run but that's about all it will do.
    The solution is pretty easy:
    1. Open System Preferences. Click on Print and Fax
    2. Select the 2200 (or any printer giving you fits) and click the to delete the printer. Close prefs.
    3. Go to the Epson site and download the 10.4 driver, Epson 11832. Install.
    4. Also download the 10.6 updater and install.
    5. Open System Prefs>Print and Fax again.
    6. Click the and select the printer model, in my case Epson 2200.
    7. In the drop down window Select Epson SP 2200 not the Epson Stylus Photo 2200 - Gutenprint v5.2.3! The latter being a Jack of all Trades and Master of none.
    8. All the print functions reappear as expected.
Do I believe the reports of Epson dumping on the Mac market? Not a chance. Mac has the majority (well over 50% and growing) of the graphic and creative arts market. Most professional photographers I know use the Mac platform and are very enthusiastic about it. Epson couldn't afford to turn their backs on the Mac platform.
With 10.6 I did loose all my custom icc profiles from PS but not PS Lightroom. I also lost the custom monitor profile. I will re-profile my paper/ink/scanner/monitor and consider it a light hit. I'm sure I don't know why this update was so rough on the drivers. I'm also sure that there will be other pains I have yet to discover.
Is 10.6 crap? Probably not. Will I install 10.7 when it arrives? You bet! At OSX worst it is better than Gate's best!!

This is all good info, but for me at least, the real issue is not whether you can get the driver/printer to function (most people seem to be able to get it working) but when you get it functioning under Snow Leopard are there color issues.
Although the printer may work fine for basic documents etc, it is for color-critical photo work that I need my 2200. Many other posts are reporting that although the driver is functioning, there are fairly severe color issues when trying to create high-quality photographic prints using the standard color-managed workflow. This would be rather crippling for photographers and other artists who rely on their 2200.
Maybe those posting here could comment on whether they have been using their 2200 for photographic purposes and whether or not they have seen color issues. I wonder if some people just aren't noticing a problem because they aren't doing color-managed photographic work.
I haven't installed Snow Leopard yet and I'm trying to determine if this is affecting a very small percentage of people or if everyone is having trouble getting proper color from their 2200 since Snow Leopard. So far I haven't seen a single post specifically stating that they they are using the 2200 for high quality photo printing and have had no color issues under Snow Leopard.

  • Color problem, black 'noise' on specific colors

    Dear adobe users,
At the moment I have a problem with a few specific colors within photoshop CS6, on top of my original colors you'll see a black noise effect. Some effect you'll suspect when you've turned on a different color mode. But i'm working with the normal RGB/8 color modes which shouldn't be a problem. If i save this document to a JPEG and open it with Windows Preview, the color problems dissapear. Funny thing is, if I get my color picker and hover on a black spot on my original document, the right color shows up in my color picker and not the black color I see on my screen.
What can cause this problem? Tried google to find the problem, but no luck so far. Driving me crazy as this isnt really working for me. Thanks for the help so far!

I'm guessing you have an ATI video card and have updated to Catalyst 13.1 (or gotten the WHQL driver through Windows Update).
Catalyst 13.1 has a problem properly running Photoshop CS6's GPU-based Adobe Color Engine.  Basically if the red channel reaches 0, all color will be blacked out.
A workaround that retains most of your GPU functionality but avoids the problem is this:  Change the Drawing Mode to Basic in the Advanced Photoshop GPU preferences.  Restart Photoshop after making the change.
A possibly more acceptable workaround is to completely uninstall Catalyst 13.1, then seek out Catalyst 12.8, specifically, on Adobe's web site.  12.8 works quite well in Advanced mode.

  • Color problem in CS3

I recently had to replace my motherboard and video card (with identiacal cards). This may or may not be related to my problem.
My Photoshop installation now has a definate magenta cast. I am working in sRGB with my color settings set to North America General Purpose 2.
If I set my preview to "monitor" (Samsung SyncMaster 243T) the colors appear correct, but returning to the native program shifts by colors back to the extreme magenta shift.
I can also view the correct colors when using "Save for web or devices"
My monitor is calibrated and I can view images correctly outside of Photoshop.
    Any suggestions?

Thank you both for your suggestions.
Just for fun, I recalibrated but got the same results.
    However...
I am using a Radeon X800GT video card that has two ports. I had not set up the second monitor yet and didn't have it turned on. When I turned it on, I got the "subscript out of range" warning suggesting that I was trying to send a screen resolution that the monitor couldn't handle.
I used an ATI utility to reset the secondary monitor to the correct resolution. Then when I opened Photoshop, the colors were not correct!
Apparantely, there was a conflict in the video card that was spilling over to affect Photoshop.
Getting the screen resolutions happy on both of my monitors fixed the Photoshop color problem.
    Thanks again.

  • IPad Air color problem - blues look purple

I just upgraded from an iPad 2 to the iPad Air, and right away noticed that anything that should be blue is clearly and distinctly purple. It's most noticeable in things such as the Facebook app and links in Safari. At first I thought I could live with it or adjust to it, but it's kind of driving me crazy. Compared side by side, the difference in colors is extremely obvious.
My questions are a) is anyone else having this problem, and b) is it worth taking it back and getting another one to see if the screen is any different, or are all the displays at this point going to have this same basic color temperature?

So, is this a universal problem or not?!  Mine has the same coloring problem.  In Safari, e.g., on Macsurfer.com, all the blue underlined links are *purple*!!
Sure enough, when you tap on one--i.e., a visited link--it changes to a deeper purple, showing it's been visited.  But it's incredibly disgracing to go to a site and see all the NEW links in PURPLE!!
Any fixes other than return?  And , on a return, what's to say that the next one won't have the same problem--or worse, the other displays issues that have been mentioned.
Incidentally , should the background color of a *white* page in iBooks look *gray*?!  Alas, it does!
