X220 OK in W700 dock?

Will an X220 fit into and also run safely in a W700 dock?

W700 dock only works with the W70x machines.

  • X220 - No audio through dock (jack port)

    Hi
I have serveral X220 running Win7 and have some trouble getting the audio working when the PC is docked, and using the jack ports.
When using either USB or the jack port on the X220 itself it works fine.
The dock is a ThinkPad Mini Dock Series 3

    @mike_redi2,
I just tested my colleague's X220 with a Mini dock and the speakers work fine, its seems softer with the dock though.
Check "Sounds" in Control Panel and see if they are enabled / selected. Do you have a DP output?

  • W700 Docking issue

    Hello all,
I just got a new W700 at work with a Mini Dock.  I am coming off using a T60p with dock and am used to how that one operated.  I'm having some trouble getting the system set up to my liking:
    1. On my T60p when I was docked I had an "undock" option in the start menu.  Not so with the W700.
    2. On my old setup when I docked the system defaulted to using the wired ethernet connection.  With the W700 the wireless stays active (though if I shut it off manually the wired connection does work).
I like to work with the laptop docked and lid closed, as I have 2 monitors at my desk.
All peripherals - keyboard, mouse, and two monitors - work correctly when docked.  I can use the Nvidia Control Panel to set the dual screens to my desired settings, and everything works fine when i dock/undock.
Shouldn't there be an undock option in the start menu?  If not, what is the proper sequence for undocking?  My T60p's dock had a button you could push to initiate the undocking sequence - the W700 Mini Dock does not.
    Any help here is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tim

    timbo80,
The W700/701 uses a Port Replicator, not a true docking station.  As such, no docking profile is created in the OS so the user will not see the "undock" option when clicking on the Start button in Windows.
So now the question is..."How do I undock"?  The Port Rep is hot swappable...in theory you can just eject the system.  In practice, any device attached such as a USB HDD should be stopped first.  You can either do this manually through the OS or run Lenovo's EasyEject utility.
Never tried the WLAN to LAN switching when attached to the Port Rep, so I will not venture the guess....but your solution of turning off WLAN via hardware switch makes sense.

  • Multiple external displays for X220 + ThinkPad Series 3 Docking Station

I have ThinkPad X220 [PN#4290HT6] and will plan to use 02 external monitors.
My plan is to buy ThinkPad Series 3 Docking Station and 02 external monitors.
Is ThinkPad Series 3 Docking Station working with 02 external monitors by my X220?
Which ports of Docking to be used [VGA or DVI]?
    Thank you!!

I would be verry happy if you could post the results of your check (the "amperage" especially).
Yes, I am aware that there are 2 versions (with and without eSATA). The one I have ordered is unfortunately the newer one, with USB 3.0 (no eSATA). But from reading other threads I know that the eSATA port on the docking station is limited - it is not powered (eSATA-p, but plain eSATA), in contrast to the laptop port, so I will not be missing this feature so much as I thought I would. I will still connect directly to the laptop port instead. Why?
I'm using one-cable connection (powered eSATA cable eSATA-p connector to normal SATA drive connector) to connect external 2.5" drive to easily boot the alternative system. Great solution, by the way, and very cheap, cost of ca. 10EUR incl shipment (Delock is the only brand I've found that produces such cables). I never liked the need to have additional power adapter or USB power connection for SATA connection - too many cables for me. So initially I was looking for the older version of docking station. But after reading about the above limitations of eSATA port on docking station, I gave up, because I would still need additional USB cable to power it up when connecting to the docking station.
Unfortunaltely, all W-series compatible docking stations are very rare on the used market here in Poland, so I didn't have too many possibilities to choose from.

  • Thinkpad X220 Laptop not detecting dock's optical drive

I have run into a situation where a Thinkpad X220 laptop is docked and the video, usb, etc. ports all work normally, but the optical drive is not powered on or detected (at BIOS or in Windows). I docked a different X220 laptop on the same dock (with the same optical drive) and not only do all the ports work fine, but the optical drive is powered and detected normally as well. I have used canned air on the dock port of the laptop to no avail. Is there anything I can do other than have the laptop replaced?

    Made sure everything is updated?

  • Displayport question about X220 and Ultrabase 3

I'd like to be able to run two external monitors while my X220 is docked (internal displayed turned off).  I know that it is not possible to use the onbaord vga and the vga on the Ultrabase at the same time as the onboard vga is disabled when the X220 is docked.  However, is the same true for the onboard displayport on the X220 when it is docked?

I have the display port and it works to have 2 external monitors, but I want to use the laptop screen as well...  laptop on the left and two other screens on the right.
When I open the display settings, all 3 screens show up, but it doesn't let me "extend" onto 2 additional screens...it blanks one out.

  • NVIDIA Card on W700

I hooked up two new 24" LED monitors to my W700 docking station; one to the DVI port and one to the Display Port via  DP-DVI adapter and they run in the W700 Extended Mode.  They are very bright so I turn them down vis the NVIDIA Control Panel and some minor color adjustments added.
    There are two problems.
    1) when the W700 starts up or comes out of "sleep" mode; the monitor are again very bright and I have to start the NCP and change the Brightness control by only 1% and everything reverts to the way it was.  The W700 isn't recognizing the NCP setting for some reason initially.  Just doing a "Refresh" doesn't work, a setting must be changed.
    2)  When the W700 wakes from sleep mode, i addition to #1 above, only one display is working.  I have to open and close the lid on the W700  and then both screens activate.  It's always the DVI port that fails to start.
The Display Driver is :8.17.12.8562 and I have been running it for several months; my trouble only started after I added my new ViewSonic LED monitors a couple of weeks back.  Refresh rate and screen resolutionare exactly the same, both HD 1920x1080.  My old 19" monitors were on the DVI/VGA ports and used a VGA/DVI adapter.
Appreciate any help you might offer.  Thanks

  • W700 eSata Problem

I’m having problems with eSata port via minidock on W700 The system wan’t boot when a esata external HD is connected on that minidock port. Also  tried to connect two different HHDD via the pci express slot and only one was recognized by S.O. but with big problems moving data from notebook to external storage. Occur on XP and Vista (32 or 64).  Does anyone have same problems? Thanks in adv.

I installed an eSATA 1 TB G-Tech Q external hdd. It's partitioned and runs perfectly on W700 with Vista Ultimate 64.  I was walked through the install by a competent G-tech tech support person. Initializing, formatting and partitioning the G-Tech Q hdd is a fairly tedious process.  The eSATA hdd appears to be working perfectly thru my W700 docking station.
I need to buy an eSATA Expresscard for the W700, which lacks an eSATA port.
    1. If anyone is happy with their eSATA exprdsscard, what brand/model do you use, please?
    2. Sonnet has a pricey ($250) new expresscard for which it claims very high connection speed. Is it worth $200 extra?

  • Looking for SSD for my 4 year old X220

Even though my boss and coworkers say I should buy a new laptop, I prefer to keep my X220 and my mini dock 3.
Are these %100 compatible and recommended SSD's?

    www.amazon.com/Crucial-MX200-250GB-mSATA-Internal/dp/B00RQA6LFA
I read somewhere else that Crucial might be preferred instead of Samsung EVO's in mSata.
What are you guys using on your X220? I can't find any other brands/models than these 3 listed here.
    • X220, Intel i5 2540M, 12.5", IPS, Bluetooth, Fingerprint, Camera, 6-Cell, Win 7, Intel 6205
    • S405, AMD A6-4455M, 14", 4GB RAM, Win 8

Good choices, though - keep x220 and install msata SSD.
Both drives are based on the same controller, fast enough, at the same time 256 GB version of MX200 is one of the fast drive with such capacity and even faster then SSDs with bigger size due to its architecture. Also it's one of leader of massmarket 256 GB storage.
Note, you'll not get full performance from both drives because of x220 supports SATA II interface only in the msata slot (drives above has SATA III interface, backward compatible with SATA II).
Due to my conservatism, I prefer Intel, so you see their drives in my signature. Nevertheless, for your choice are Micron, Plextor, MyDigitalSSD, Corsair... Not OCZ. But Crucial is a very good choice.

  • Docked resolution problem x220

    Hi All
Sometimes after redocking resolution on external screen doesn't change to one set in  Intel graphics and media panel. My system Lenovo x220 docking station 3 OS Windows XP SP3. I have more the same systems and they don't have this problem. I updated system via lenovo vantage update software but resolution problem still randomly occurring. I replaced docking station as well. What could be wrong?
    Thanks

As I understand the graphics disturb after removing docking station, if the issue occurs for few seconds then it can be ignored.
If the resolution does not come to normal then you should update the BIOS and check.

Also confirm the Intel graphic driver version is 6.14.10.5384

  • Ultrabase vs docking station for X220

I have a lenovo thinkpad x220.  I want to be able to use a docking station with the monitor down on the laptop.  My end goal is to use a monitor with the tinkpad in a docking station and then use the usb ports to connect a full size keyboard and mouse with my 23" monitor.  all this while the laptop screen is down.
can i do this with the Ultrabase  Item model number: 0A33932?  it is less expensive than the Docking station.
thanks for the help in clarifying the difference between these 2 products.

no they are not inter compatible.
X220 uses Ultrabase series 3, or Series 3 dock.
The X61 uses X6 ultrabase that were only compatible with X60s, X60, X61s, X61 machines.

  • Mircosoft wireless mouse problem in X220 with docking

    Hi,
I have an issue about X220 with docking.
When I un-dock the laptop for meeting, the Microsoft wireless mouse is working fine. However, when I finish the meeting and re-dock on the docking station, both the wireless mouse and keyboard is not working. I tried to unplug and plug in the wireless receiver but cannot solve the issue.
Since I have lots of meeting and this problem is really annoying me. Does anyone know how to solve this problem.
    Thanks.
    Ivan

    Hi, gogpop
For the issue with the wireless mouse, I would recommend uninstalling the UltraNav driver from Device Manager. The UltraNav driver, in my experience, can sometimes cause issues with the mouse. To uninstall the driver, open the Charms Bar from the right side of the screen and select Search. Type Device Manager into the search bar, then select Settings from underneath the search bar. Device Manager should now be visible on the left side of the screen. Select it. When in Device Manager, open the tree for Mice and other pointing devices. Right-click on ThinkPad UltraNav Pointing Device (if available) and select Properties. Select the Driver tab and then click on Uninstall... at the bottom. Follow the prompts to remove the driver and then restart the system. After the uninstallation of the UltraNav driver, Windows should install a generic driver, which may help your issue.
As added security and reliability, I would also recommend installing the base Synaptics driver from here. Synaptics is the same company that makes the UltraNav driver, but their base driver seems to have less issues, so it's definitely worth a shot.
As for the wireless issues, I would recommend navigating to Control Panel ► Programs and Features and uninstalling the Intel Management Engine Driver (if here.) This program is sometimes found on machines with Intel wireless cards and its removal can greatly help wireless issues.
Lastly, if you haven't already, I would also make sure that all drivers and BIOS are up to date, all of which can be found here.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • External Mouse and Keyboard Stop Working When X220 is Docked and Screen is Closed

I have an X220 with a docking station, external monitor and external keyboard/mouse.  When I start the laptop from a cold boot and it's docked, my external mouse and keyboard work fine with the screen open or closed.
If I undock and redock with the screen closed, the external keyboard doesn't work and the mouse cursor moves, but the mouse buttons don't do anything.  If I open the screen, then the keyboard and mouse work fine.
I've swapped the keyboard and mouse and still have the same problem, so it's not the kb/mouse.  This is a brand new X220 and the issue has been occurring since it was purchased.
    Any thoughts?

    hey mhambalek,
hard to say what's going on, though i would recommend heading to http://support.lenovo.com , do a full update of your unit.
also, if the external keyboard & mouse & monitotor is connected to your unit without the docking station, does the same thing happen?
