X220 sudden fall from sleep when connecting to ultrabase

Hi all,
last days I am facing really strange problem. When my notebook is in sleep mode and I want him to connect to the ultrabase, he suddenly turns off. I dont know why, no matter if notebook or ultrabase is powered by adapter... It just "deads" at the moment as it is connected, and on the next turn on it says "system windows did not shut down properly".
Does anybody has a idea, where could be the problem? Has anyone meet this problem yet?
Many thanks!

  • Macbook Pro wakes up from sleep when express card inserted

    Hi,
my macbook pro (no unibody, 10.5.7) wakes up from sleep when I have my express card 34 (Hama 16GB) inserted. Is there any trick to disable wake up when a drive is inserted? I tried to eject the disk before going to sleep with a shell script but it automounts the device... I attached my log... I hope somebody can help! Thanks a lot!

Hey, thanks 4 your response... Well I figured that out... I hoped that there was a way to prevent system calls, regarding devices, to wake up my macbook pro... something like: forbid interrupts while asleep
If you ever hear of a way to fix it please let me know...
I think a solution would be to disable automount on the express card device... I use it for my time machine backup and really DON'T want to remove the card every five minutes...
    Cheers, Philipp

  • HT1338 Imac won't wake from sleep when a facetime call comes in

My Imac will not awake from sleep when a FaceTime call comes in.

I've had this problem several times now, and I do no own MobileMe. I don't use any bluetooth peripherals, but I've noticed that the precursor to the problem is that my bluetooth icon in the menubar goes from normal to "Bluetooth Unavailable." Then at some point later on, I put the iMac to sleep and it won't wake up.
I've read elsewhere that the bluetooth unavailable problem may be connected to the power management unit, which may in turn explain what is going on with it not rebooting. But I'm not sure.

When you connect the device open iTunes and select it from the sidebar. Click on the Summary tab in the main window. Uncheck the option to automatically connect to iTunes. You will find it in the collection of options near the lower part of the window.

  • Waking 2012 Macbook Pro from sleep when on mains power

My Macbook takes ages to wake from sleep *when its on mains power* and has been left for a few hours. In contrast, it will wake instantly when on battery power, as my old 2005 ibook did.
However when on mains when you open the lid, you get a progress bar at the bottom of the screen. When this has completed, it displays the login screen but without focus or ability to move the cursor. A pinwheel revolves for a while. After the pinwheel has finished, as soon as you touch the trackpad, you get the beach ball and finally (after a total of about 45 seconds) you get to log in.
Apart from the fact that this doesn't make any sense for a slow wake up on mains and fast wake up on battery, the manner is which it is executed is so cumbersome and un-Apple I'm sure there has to be something wrong, although I've searched extensively and can't find anything to fix it (Tried resetting the SMC etc)
    Any help massively appreciated!

  • Automatically wake from sleep when lid closed?

I would like my MBP to wake from sleep when the lid is closed (no external monitor attached) in the middle of the night to initiate a backup to another computer. Is it possible to get the computer to wake up with closed and nothing attached? Do I need a third-party app to do this?
    Thanks
    Brian

But, that won't wake the computer up if the lid is closed and nothing else is hooked up to it. I want to wake it up in the middle of the night when the lid is closed and it is hooked up to a power supply.

  • Powerbook won't wake from sleep when unplugged from power

    hi everyone,
    i have a 15" 1ghz titanium powerbook, running 10.4.6.
recently (maybe since 10.4.6?) i haven't been able to wake the machine from sleep when i unplug it from powering up in sleep mode, to open it up someplace else to run it on batteries for a little while. i always have to do a hard-reboot (holding down the startup button for several seconds). this usually destroys my dock and other preferences when i'm "back in".
does anyone know what might be causing this? it seems to be a recent development. it's unpleasant, because i frequently have the powerbook charge itself while asleep, and then i want to unplug it and quickly do something in another room running it on batteries. afaik sleeping and awakening works fine as long as i don't plug/unplug the power cable before waking it up.
any hints would be greatly appreciated...thank you!

    Hi A.L.,
I have a Cinema Display which I often use on the back of my Ti. I know the laptop will not wake if there is no power and it has an external DVI display attached.
Perhaps your computer thinks it has some monitor attached - perhaps checking the DVI port for damage would be worth it?

  • PB Wakes from Sleep When HDTV is Shut Off?

I have a 12"PB (10.5.6) hooked up via mini-DVI to VGA to a 47" LG HDTV (47LG50). I love this setup, but I'm having a problem keeping the PB asleep. When I'm done using the computer, I hit opt-apple-eject to put it to sleep and then switch the TV input to the cable box or whatever. The PB stays asleep successfully until I power down the television. At that point it wakes. When I try to put it back to sleep, the light on the front pulses once and then wakes again.
Anyone have any fixes for this? I'll even accept a work around, like having the PB sleep unless I hit a certain key combo or something... I don't want to leave the computer on for most of the day.
    Thanks!!!

Hi, James. Not that I'm aware of. If there is, it probably involves entering commands into the Terminal, with which I have barely a nodding acquaintance. My one accomplishment in the Terminal has been instructing my MBP not to wake from sleep when the display is opened, and I managed that successfully only because someone more knowledgeable than I am told me exactly how to do it.
If that can be done, perhaps your computer could be instructed to ignore whatever little blip your TV set sends to the computer when you turn it off. But to do so, you'd have to know what the computer calls that little blip and how to incorporate its name into a command in the proper syntax. That's all well beyond me. I hope someone else will pitch in to help.

  • Mac loses internet after wake from sleep, still connected to router

    Hi All,
So, I see similar threads, but I'm not sure if this is the same problem. Here's what happening:
-When I wake my Mac from sleep it usually (but not always) loses its internet (but not wifi) connection.
-The loss happens 10-15 seconds AFTER it wakes up. If I go to Safari/Firefox right after it wakes up, I can bring up webpages fine for about 10 seconds. Then, suddenly, pages stop loading.
-The wifi stays connected (I have an airport router) the whole time, and if I go to the airport utility, everything looks fine.
-I know this is not a problem with my internet or my router because I have tried opening web pages on both my iPhone (connected to wifi with cellular off) as well as my PC laptop (I only have it for one program that the company does not make for the Mac and I need for work, haha), and both browse the internet just fine even though my Mac says there is no internet.
-If I restart my Mac, the internet works fine. This is a simple fix, however it's also annoying to have to do it all the time.
-This is happening in different locations, not just on my wifi. It happens in coffee shops, hotels, and airports too.
-Not sure if this is related, but I have also been getting messages in iTunes saying that I need to authorize my computer or apps will be deleted.
-I completely deleted Norton, as I had a hunch it was responsible for this problem (since the internet was disconnecting right after getting an "add location" message from that program). However, even with it completely off my computer, I'm still having the issues.
    Any suggestions???

What Mac OSX version are you running? "iOS 8.2" as currently shown in your profile cannot run on any Mac computer, only Apple mobile devices.
If your computer has automatically connected to a lot of networks, say, during travel, that might hinder waking as the computer looks for what networks it remembers. Go to System Preferneces > Network and select your wirelss connection from the left-hand pane. Then click the "Advanced" button in the main pain. That will show the list of networks you Mac has stored:
There could be a lot. Clear out all networks stored there except those you use on a weekly basis. The little box with the "-" icon clears unwanted networks. Restart the computer and see if thising work better.
-I completely deleted Norton, as I had a hunch it was responsible for this problem (since the internet was disconnecting right after getting an "add location" message from that program). However, even with it completely off my computer, I'm still having the issues.
Download and run Etrecheck, a safe way to post a snapshot of your config without revealing any personal information. I'm concerned you did not get all of Norton, or have some other dreck like CleanMyMac or MacKeeper lurking.

  • MBP suddenly wakes from sleep

Since a couple of weeks (not directly related to a software-update as far as I know) my MBP suddenly wakes up from from sleep. Sometimes it is every 30 seconds, sometimes it occurs only once or twice a night.
I've done a lot of tests and it doesn't seem to be related to specific software running at that moment. Most of the time only Safari, Mail and Messenger are the only active apps. There are never USB-devices connected wen the MBP is asleep, although during 'working hours' there are a mouse and keyboard connected. There are disconnected long before going to sleep.
Almost always the wake reasons (mentioned in the console.log) are:
    MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: Wake reason = EHC1 EHC2
    but today I saw:
    MacBook-Pro kernel[0]: Wake reason = UHC3
I tried resetting the SMC, NVRAM and PRAM but that also didn't help.
Does anybody have a clue what these wake up reasons mean and how I can fix this problem. I see that a lot of people have these problems but so far I cannot find a solution.

Hello, I had the same problem. Today I tried "going to sleep" again and it worked.
The only relevant thing I did today was installing the "iousbfamily327.4.0log.dmg" file downloaded from developer.apple.com (search for "IOUSBFamily.kext 3.2.7")
I initially installed the file "IOUSBFamily.kext 3.1.5" for Leopard 10.5.5 a few days ago. I also had problems when inserting a USB mass storage device (I got a "blue screen").
Now, after I installed the USB debug kit for 10.5.6, my MacBook Pro goes to sleep again. Please write if this solution worked for you!

  • MacBook not going to sleep when connected to WiFi

    Hi there,
my MacBook 3,1 is not going to sleep as long as it is connected to WiFi.
It starts the process of going to sleep as my VNC connection gets dropped but it stays awake. I can easily reconnect.
Everthing else is working fine. Any suggestions?

    Hello everyone,
I'm facing the same syptom. I tried many things and now havw to live with putting the MacBook to slee by hand. I had some other issues just before that:
1: The MB returned randomly from sleep while being closed. That was annoying. I think it was fixed after installing smart sleep and doing some cleanup in the preference files.
2: Then I was put "randomly" to sleep. I figured that came from overheating the processor (thus I'm gld it went to sleep). The fan speed control was set to constantly 2000 rpm. Installing fanControl helped.
3: Lid closing did not init the sleep mode and the backlight is not turning off. Niether does it wake up on opening when I put it io sleep manually (I have to press a key).
The sensor for closing the lid seems to work, if it is the same which controls the maximum brightnes of the sleep indicator light (pulsing). It is darker when the lid is closed.
I wonder if there is some settings tool.
Besides I think the issues started after the Software updates around 12th of dec. 2008, with MacOS10.5.6 and the EFI & SMC firmware updates.
    I'm eager to get answers.

  • After waking from sleep Airport connection is gone

I saw a couple of threads that were old and not udpated, so I decided to start a new one.
My 12" PowerBook (Rev C, 1.25GB RAM, OS 10.3.9) regulary won't re-connect to a WiFi network after going to to sleep. This happens on three different networks. Two are Linksys routers and one is an ActionTec. Other 15" PowerBook users on the same network don't suffer from the same problems. None of the networks broadcast their SSID and two of them use WEP. None use WAP. All use MAC address filtering.
I've tried numerous things when troubleshooting (including OS 10.4.3) and different Airport Cards. Other than a restart, nothing seems to solve it. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem and if anyone has solved it?
    Much thanks.

Okay, I've found something that greatly helps. It doesn't eliminate the problem completey, but it's now so infrequent that I don't mind nearly as much.
In the past I was very good about setting locations in my Network pane. That is, I'd have a "Home" location, "Coffee Shop" location, "Work" location and so on. I've still kept all of my locations, but I no longer switch between them depending on where I'm at. So far this is working great. Even if I'm on my "Work" setting (Automatic DHCP) I can still connect to my "Home" location (DCHP Manual IP). I also have my "By Default Join" setting on Automatic.
This appears to have lessened the frequency of my wake from sleep and not finding the network problems. The few times I have lost my network upon awaking, I've been able to toggle the Airport on/off a few times and this has enabled me to reconnect. In the past only a restart cured it.

  • MBA won't wake from sleep while connected to VGA Display

Since a few days I'm using a VGA Display connected through the official Apple Mini Displayport - VGA Adapter. However, when I put my MacBook Air to sleep and then close the lid (otherwise closing the lid will just continue on the display). Keeping the monitor attached, it won't wake from sleep anymore. Disconnecting the adapter at that moment won't make any difference. What troubleshooting steps can I make?

    I usually...
    Take out the charger
    take out the battery pack
    reinsert the battery pack
    Then click the power switch
(if you have low battery I'm sure it would be a good idea to plug in the adapter again

Waking from sleep mode to lock screen when a secondary monitor is connected with an HDMI cable presents a blank white screen with user icon but no other elements, including the box where one enters their password.  The remaining UI elements appear only after disconnecting the HDMI cable.
