X220 - swapping numlock and scroll lock

Hello,
does anybody know, how to swap these both keys? I've searched the registry, but I haven't found anything... Ideal state would be just change the values - in a result numlock would be turned on by pressing "scrlk" key, and scroll lock would be turned on by "fn+scrlk". Num lock would help me a lot, since I don't use Excel very often.
I would be very glad for all suggestions!
Thank You and wish a nice day!
Skrble

Try KeyTweak.
I can't confirm Fn+keys combinations remapping capability.

My pavilion dv4-1070 got stuck on a blank screen and numlock and caps lock LED are blinking... it happens when i update the BIOS.. please help... thanks

    Hello,
I see that you're having an issue with the notebook giving you a black screen. I also noticed you said only the NumLock and Caps lock is blinking.
Now, the BIOS update could have because this but we won't know until you let me know how many times the LED blinks.
Here is a chart which will tell us what's causing the issue.
Please let me know the outcome.

  • [Solved] Strange Problem swapping Esc and Caps lock in X

    Hi
i use xmodmap to swap esc and caps lock. my .xmodmaprc:
    remove Lock = Caps_Lock
    keycode 9 = Caps_Lock
    keycode 66 = Escape dead_diaeresis
    add Lock = Caps_Lock
As login manager i use slim and everthing works as expected as long as i don't activate slim's autologin option. In this case pressing caps lock executes  caps lock and esc. The same happens if i start X from the console via startx. I have no clue why this happens. Anyone got an idea whats the problem?
More, maybe relevant info: i use dwm as window manager and xmodmap is executed in .xinitrc.

I find that many of these types of common key switches are supported by xorg.conf.d configurations.  For example, I use my caps lock as a secondary "windows key" since that is the mod key for my i3 setup.  So I have this in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf
    % cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-keyboard.conf
    <snip>
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "evdev keyboard catchall"
    MatchIsKeyboard "on"
    MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
    Driver "evdev"
    Option "XkbOptions" "caps:super"
    EndSection
    <snip>
I found the option you need.  It is in /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.lst, and it is "caps:swapescape".  In my mind, this is the more "correct" way of doing it, as it is done during the initalization of X rather than as an after thought.
    I hope this helps!

  • My keyboard has gone haywire, shift keys and scroll Lock keeps turning on by themselves!

Hello, recently I have a problem typing with my laptop. Mutliple times a day, both of the shift keys, and the scroll lock key turns on by themselves. These are the problems I face when typing: 1. Unwanted text is highlighted2. Letters are capital although caps lock is not on.3. When I try to browse in Google Chrome, text gets deleted and random windows start to pop up4. For some reason the word "QWEPRUIO" starts appearing sometimes when I type.
    5. Someimes while I type, suddenly the text gone missing and an asterik * appears.6. Also when this happens, my wi-fi gets turned off automatically. IT guys at my work place tried fixing it but we can't seem to find the problem source. Please help me, this is getting rather annoying especially I am using the laptoo for work!It took me more than half an hour to type a decent email to my client  Thanks!

By any chance did something get spilled onto the keyboard (even a small amount)? Liquids can definitely cause this type of issue (Trust me, I know from experience, I have kids.). If you rule that out then open the System Preferences and click on the Keyboard settings, put a check in the 'Show Input menu in menu bar' box. This will add a menu bar pull down menu that will allow you to 'Show Keyboard Viewer.' If you select the 'Show Keyboard Viewer' option does the keyboard layout match the keyboard you are using? When you press the keys you are having issue with does the corresponding key light up on the keyboard viewer? Please post your results.

  • Caps lock and Scroll lock blink continuously without stopping

HP Pavilion Dv5 1004nr entertainment notebook. Caps lock & scroll lock blink continuously. Power light is on. Power light does not flash. Fan and drive start upon powering up. Held down 4 arrow keys during power up, but does not solve problem. Removed all external devices and removed battery. Same problem. Please help.

Urgh, appears to be bad RAM... Running memtest and switching sticks in and out only shows errors with one particular RAM stick installed. I'll leave this stick out and try installing Arch again once the current memtest pass is finished.

  • Could i use a older USB keyboard with caps, num, and scroll lock LEDs to...

controll a motor? use the power from the LEDs (snipping the LEDs off so they dont draw power) and hook them up to a motor? im thinking about making a DIY cd/dvd duplicator out of a USB scanner. Mabey i should use the existing controller board in the scanner to control motors?....but that would require proramming. Help would be much appreciated. Thanks

Not really my area of expertise but....
I'd say you coukd use the LED outputs to trigger relays as the voltage and current would be too low for any useful motor. A typical LED is supplied ~ 2.1 VDC @ ~20 mA. ( could be as low as 2 mA ).

  • [SOLVED] Kernel Panic - caps lock and scroll lock flashing

So I just spent a whole bunch of $$$ on a new desktop, and a couple of hours putting it all together, now I can't get anything except kernel panics when booting the Arch install CD
    Hardware:
    Core 2 Quad Q8400
    Gigabyte EP43-UD3L
    8gb RAM
    2 x Seagate SATA 160gb
    2 x Seagate SATA 1tb
    So far I've tried:
    - Arch ISO 2008.06 and 2009.02
    - Fail Safe Defaults in the BIOS
    - 'noapic' boot option
    - HPET in 32 and 64 bit mode
The strange thing is that the panic comes at various stages - sometimes before the init scripts start, sometimes after, and also during boot it complains about errors with fd0 - except there is no floppy drive.
    Any ideas folks?

  • Caps-lock and scoll-lock LEDs blinking

Ok so a friend gave me 2 dv7-1245dx laptops. When I turn them on both screens do nothing, and the caps and scroll lock LEDs blink every 3 sec apart. On one of them the dvd drive also acts like it is trying to read a disc. External monitor didn't owkr, nor did changing ram to a set that know works, and swapped CMOS batterys between the 2 didn't help either. Also did a hard reset which also didn't help. Any suggestions?

It sounds like they may be experiencing a processor failure if it blinks only once with a 3-4 second pause between each blink.
Review this document as it has the decoding table for the blink codes.
One blink indicates that the processor has failed.  While it is is unlikely to happen on two notebooks simultaneously, it's not impossible.
The steps listed in the document is to reseat the processor or to have the unit serviced.
Normally, HP has a guide for most of the notebooks on how to reseat/replace the processor.  However, this particular system does not list the maintenance and service guide here.

It shows up on my T61 - which has physical indicators on the screen bevel - there's a small text-block coming up over the clock in the lower right corner, saying "Caps Lock on/off" and "Num Lock on/off" and "Scroll Lock on/off"
So the physical indicators got nothing to do with it.

  • MS-6368 freeze w/ blinking cap & scroll lock

When running linux (both Redhat 9.0 & Mandrake 9.2) the system freezes with a blinking caps & scroll lock.  The case Power LED does NOT blink.  This can occur from a few minutes to a few hours after booting up.
I've tried pressing keys, moving mouse, clicking mouse, but it does not unfreeze.
Pressing the power button will interrupt the blinking for a short time.  Holding the power button down will shutdown the system.
This occured in the MB's original 6.0 BIOS, and still occurs after flashing 6.1.  The MB is version 5.0.
I'm using the optimized BIOS settings, with LAN boot off.
I've tried adjusting the ACPI settings to disable, the PM Control by APM to no, and the Video off option to All Modes->off without seeing any change.
The screen is still visible after the freeze, even with the All Modes->Off video option.
PC Health seems fine, with the CPU not more than 85F when examining it after a freeze.
I'm able to exit the freeze by pressing reset.  Of course, that forces a reboot.
I've seen no information on what the blinking caps & scroll lock might mean.  I would guess standby/suspend/etc, but I can't wake the system and it occurs even when moving the mouse or typing on the keyboard.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks!
I was so busy searching for "ms-6368" and blinking cap and scroll lock that I didn't think to check under Linux instead.  This is a big step in narrowing down the problem.
I'd like to further narrow it down to a root cause from one of the following categories: a Linux problem; a RAM problem; or a MS-6368 problem.
Steps I'm taking/have taken to do this:
I've checked the syslog and found no suspicious entries at the time of the freeze.
I've done a quick ram check, no errors.
I've started a full ram check that takes 75 hours.
I'm researching what to look for to identify the root cause of the freeze in Linux.
I can swap RAM and see if that corrects the problem.
I can install a Windows OS and see if there are problems there (of course, how would I tell the difference?)
If the problem still occurs after all that it seems like the best possibility is it being the MS-6368.  I'll post if I find anything interesting.
    Is there anything I've missed?
