X220 Tablet Windows 8 Wi-Fi Trouble

Hello,
In January, I upgraded the hard drive in my X220 Tablet and installed Windows 8 to the new hard drive.  Since doing so, I've been having trouble with the Wi-Fi on the computer.  It does this thing from time to time (a few times a week) where the Wi-Fi just cuts out, and doesn't think any networks are available, although the networking adapter is enabled.  Usually I can fix things by disabling and enabling the networking adapter a few times, but I'm getting tired of having to do this.  The problem is entirely with the computer, and not with my network, as it will do this on number of different networks, and the problem is not with the networking components.
Has anyone else had similar issues?  Does anyone have any advice on how to fix it?

Hi garebear22,
thanks forposting and sorry for the late intrusion. I was wondering which try ofwireless card was installed in yourmachine?
Do let me know

  • X220 Tablet and Windows 8.1 - Limited Touch drops with Intel HD 3000 is installed?

I have installed Windows 8.1 Professional on on a Lenovo X220 Tablet and everything seems to have installed correctly, although my system, which supported limited touch with 2 touch points in Windows 7, only has Pen Support in 8.1.
I have been able to get the system to be recognized as "Pen and Limited Touch Support with 2 Touch Points" but only if I disable/unintall the Intel HD 3000 driver, and use Microsoft Basic Display Adapter instead.  The problem is that the resolution isn't as crisp.
Any recommendations as to what I can do to get the limted touch to be recognized with the Intel HD 3000 driver?  This one is baffling.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    The X220 Tablet's type is 4296-2WU
Also, the Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver is the latest version compatible with 8.1 64bit - 9.17.10.3517.
Update: I have also tried the previous Intel driver release, 9.17.10.3347, as well as the recommend Intel driver from the support page 9.17.10.2843 and non of them allow my screen to do Limited Touch Support with 2 Touch Points.  Yet, if I disable the Intel driver, and restart, I can.

    Troy,
Thanks for sharing your expeirences and the details of the driver version.
Officially, I don't think Lenovo provided full support for Win 8 on the X220, but as you note it (and the upgrade to 8.1) can work with some limitations.   I'll check with one of our software engineers to see if he may have some suggestions on this one.
I expect you will probably draw some responses from the community as the X220 was a very popular system with a good following.
    Best regards,

  • Random 'touch glitches" on x220 with Windows 8 Pro

Performed a clean install of Win8 on x220 Tablet with brand new SSD (not an upgrade). The Start Menu GUI displays 'random touch glitches' (those highlights that appear when you actually touch the screen), which are invoking random apps. This is not happening on the desktop mode.
Ran the Lenovo System Updater which provided a number of drivers but did not correct this issue.
Then I installed the latest Wacom Windows 8 driver for Tablet PC but still this has not corrected the appearance of these random touch glitches.
Anyone encounter this and find a fix? Much appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Per early query, the 'random touch' glitches appear as random 'sonar blips', much like when you touch the new Win8 GUI (not the old Win7 desktop).
Thanks for the link to prior discussion. Ran the BIOS Updater, re-booted but random 'sonar' blips persist. Though the discussion link led someone to conclude it was  hardware issue, I am not convinced since I am only getting these 'sonar' blips in the Win8 GUI. The desktop shows nothing (though when you actually touch the desktop screen no 'sonar' graphic appears, and my desktop shortcuts are not randomly opening.
Again, this is appearing only in the Win8 GUI so I'm guessing that's where the problem lies.

  • Lenovo x220 tablet pc with ubuntu 12.04 Shuts down and starts up unexpectedly

    Hi
I bought a lenovo x220 tablet pc and installed ubuntu 12.04 with GNOME 3 a while ago.
It was working fine at first however recently:
    1. the computer shutsdown unexpectedly, the shutdown dialog appears (the one that gives you the option of restart, cancel, or shutdown); I try to cancel it however the laptop would just power down (without going through the proper shutdown routine). Once it powers down it would try to reboot on its own but halfway during the reboot it would power down again.
    2. At times when I do shutdown normally, I would just close the lid and the computer would start back up again, without my pressing the power button (just moving the monitor makes the computer startup)
In addition I dropped the computer on the battery side at one time and cracked the plastic casing a little. The above mentioned problems still exists when I use the laptop without the battery.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about finding out what's wrong and how to fix it.
Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hey mate,
sorry to here about that. Here may be a path to the clearing where a possible solution is waiting: Nowadays it is standard to let the pc (or more exactly the power manager of the OS) listen to the ACPI bus for messages like power button pressed and such things. If such a message surfaces and your power manager picks it up it is possible (if you have this configured as an action) that it shuts down you computer or restarts it. To eliminate this possibility you can try one of the following to things:
    1. stop your power manager from working
    2. get yourself superuser rights and use acpi_listen to listen to the acpi bus (if not working then install "acpid", shut down your power manager and start acpid as service)
    3. open your system log (e.g. /var/log/messages) and search for things connected to your power manager or acpi
Please tell me if it worked! If not you could also post the content of your system log for analysis.
    Using x230t (i5-3320M, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 80GB mSata-SSD) and loving it!

  • X220 tablet - sound suddenly stopped working from speakers and headphone (but not bluetooth)

X220 tablet (about 2.5 yrs old, out of warranty) was working completely fine last night; this morning, no sound is coming from the laptop, either through speakers or through headphones (audio jack).  I am, however, able to get sound through a bluetooth-connected speaker.
I had hoped this was a software issue.  Tried uninstalling/installing all sound devices, updating BIOS, updating drivers, system restore to previous date, rebooting a million times, etc.  No joy.
When I run the sound troubleshooter, it says that no speaker, headset, or headphone appears to be plugged in.  The sound icon has a little red circle/white X next to it.  When I try to plug in headphones, nothing happens -- does not seem to detect the event.  When I press the mute and volume buttons on the tablet, no response.
Also, under Device Manager -> Sound, video and game controllers, it lists only "Bluetooth Hands-free Audio" and "Intel Display Audio".  I don't think either of these is the normal X220 audio driver, is it?  What else should be there?  I downloaded the Conexant Audio Software from Lenovo's site (this is what came up when I searched for audio drivers for the X220 tablet), and tried to install it, but halfway through, it said the install failed because it couldn't locate the device for the driver.
This sounds like it's a hardware problem -- any way to verify?  Also, which piece of hardware exactly?  Is it the sound card (that's presumably integrated into the motherboard --> no easy fix)?  I'm guessing it's not the speakers themselves since the headphone jack is also affected, but what is my best line of testing at this point to confirm that?  If it IS the sound card, any suggestions on the best fix?
    Many thanks in advance!

I was wrong - I did upgrade to a 3 yr warranty (had forgotten about this) so hopefully it's covered!

  • X220 Tablet: Stylus does not work in Windows 8.1

EDIT: In perhaps the most embarrassing moment to have asked for help in my entire life, I restarted my computer and everything works fine now.  I must not have restarted after one of the drivers was installed for some reason.  This topic can be locked.
    Original Post:
    Hello,
I am a digital artist so I rely on the hardiness of my X220's pen/stylus/digitizer for a lot of my laptop use.  This fall my laptop had a virus that required it to be reset to factory settings, and so I decided it would be a good time to upgrade to Windows 8.1 (from Windows 7) before installing any programs.  I now have Windows 8.1 and it is working fine; however, my pen is not being detected by my system.  My fingers are being detected on the touchscreen, so I know the touch screen works.  I did not try my pen since resetting to factory settings, so I do not know whether it worked before I upgraded to Windows 8.1.  I would assume the issue is a missing driver, but I could not find the right driver on Lenovo's website and the digitizer update utility produces an error when I click "Update."  I was wondering if anybody had an idea for what I could do.  I would assume I am not the first person to try updating to Windows 8.1 on an X220, nor the first to reset an X220 to factory settings.  However, a brief search of Lenovo's support forums and of the internet has shown no solutions to my particular problem.
Here are drivers I am using that strike me as relevent, as well as their version and date.  Maybe that will help with a solution.  I'm sure the solution is an easy one.
    HID-compliant digitizer (6.3.96... 6/21/2006, up-to-date)
    HID-compliant pen (6.3.96... 6/21/2006, up-to-date)
    Wacom Device (3.1.0.5 4/11/2014, up-to-date)
    ThinkPad UltraNav Pointing Device (16.2.19.7 4/17/2013, up-to-date)
    HID-compliant Mouse (3.1.0.5 4/11/2014, up-to-date)
Thank you!  Please let me know if there's any other information I should provide!

If it doesn't work for certain applications then you may go through the followings:

  • Touch Screen No Longer Works After Windows 8 Install on X220 Tablet

I was previously running Windows 8 Preview and did not have any problems with the touch screen.  I have tried two separate clean installs of Windows 8 Pro, and the only thing that will not work is the touch screen with my finger.  The pen still works, but not the finger touch.
The driver installation for both the pen and the multitouch fails with and error saying "A supported tablet was not found on the system."
    Help Please.

Any resolution on this issue. Please advise as I am having the same problem when upgrading from Windows 7 to 8 on my X230T (3434cto)

  • Mobile brandband issues with Windows 8 Beta on X220 Tablet

Hi everyone! I wonder if anyone of you has the F5521gw in a X220t running on Windows 8 Beta (German). It's the only device that is not working :-( I am currently using the W8 beta driver offered by Lenovo but it still does not cut it. When I look at available networks I only see WiFi but no mobile broadband. I even tried disablng the SIM PIN to make sure it's not a problem on that end. Any hints to get this working? Thanks a lot in advance, Nicholas (http://blogs.sepago.de/nicholas)

  • X220 drivers windows preview

tried installing win8 on my trusty x220 today, ran into 3 issues
    1. webcam not working
    2. system update "an error occured while aquireing user info"
    3.  audio drivers fail to install in second stage returning code 0x0.
    are there any workarounds atm?
everything seems to be working fine on my think center and envy

Did you manage to get the Hotkeys installed?  Or is that what you're using to adjust the volume?
You could try to update the driver manually from Device Manager.  Don't let Windows install it, point the installer to the folder where the driver downloaded to.  It'll probably fail, but then Windows should offer to install it in compatibility mode.
    Let it.

  • X220 with Windows 7 (64 bit) Pro using SSD Samsung 840 (500G) drive

I am using a Thinkpad X220 (4291) laptop with 8 gigs of RAM.  I recently switched my HDD for an SSD (Samsung 840 which is 500G).  I have been following the posts and have set the BIOS accordingly as well as updated firmware for the drive.  I use Crystal Disk Mark for measuring the read/write of the drive and am not getting the speeds I should.  I currently get:
    CrystalDiskMark 3.0.2 (C) 2007-2013 hiyohiyo
                               Crystal Dew World : http://crystalmark.info/

        OS : Windows 7 Professional SP1 [6.1 Build 7601] (x86)
As you can see the speed is drastically slower than advertised.  (Should get 504 Mbits/sec read)
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Jamie

I have an X220 with W8 Pro and Samsung 840 Pro.  Getting 528 read and 474 sequential write.   Did you install the Samsung Magician software and update the firmware on the SSD?
Samsung Magician will also provide a speedtest you can check against crystal disk mark.
Lots of sites for optimizing SSD settings but unless it is a firmware issue I don't know why you would get such slower speeds.
