X220 vs. X240 Weight

Hi there,
I use x220 top model with extended battery now. It weighs 3.6 pounds according to the spec sheet. I've been planning to buy x240 thinking it would be thinner and lighter considering the two years in between. However, the spec sheet of the x240 with extended battery is still 3.6 pounds!
Could someone clarify this please? I'm loving my x220 though I recently bought Sony VAIO Pro 11. SONY's machine is good with HD screen and it's impossibly light and thin. However I feel scared to use it because it seems so fragile Thinkpad on the otherhand can take my beating, loves the keyboard and performance. But it's bit heavy considering other machines on the block noawadays. :-(
What about thinkpad Yoga? Anyone can provide more info on that model? I mean compared to X series?
Thank you very much,
regards,
Shereef

I own both the Lenovo X220 and the Fujitsu P771. Actualy the Lenovo is mine and the Fujitsu is my wife's. Both are high end configs (i7/ssd/8gb) and are very fast. They are about the same size an weight. The IPS screen on the Lenovo is much better and the keyboard is more confortable because the keys are a little bigger. The trackpad is a little better on the Fujitsu, as the small clickpad on the Lenovo is quite a joke. Also the speaker placement is a litter better on the Fujitsu (they are on top of the keyboard, while on Lenovo they are underneath the wristpad). Both have 3 USB ports (Lenovo has one 3.0 and Fujitsu two 3.0). One the other hand Lenovo has one USB port that is powered even when the notebook is shutdown, allowing you to charge various devices directly from it's battery. Fujitsu has VGA and HDMI ports, Lenovo has VGA and Display Port. Lenovo also has the pointing stick. On the other hand Fujitsu has a built in optical drive. On Lenovo I have it in the Ultra Bay III docking station. Lenovo display is 1366 x 768 (16:9) 12.5" while Fujitsu's is 1280 x 800 (16:10) 12.1". Battery authonomy is pretty much the same, but that depends much on usage and power saging settings so I can't really compare. Both have SD card reader, webcam and bluetooth. Both also have WWAN cards with GPS although I haven't found yet any program to recognize it. If you have any queston about either one just ask.

  • Old X61 90w ac adapters versus current x230/x220 adapters in weight/size?

I'm having trouble pinning this down because of the number of 'offbrand' units.
Has the size or weight of the 90w adapters changed since the release x61/x61 tablet?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hey Shiren,
If you take a look at the link below you will see that the x61 tablet 90w adapter for US/Canda is 40Y7659 and the X230/x220 90w adapter has the same number (see link two).

    http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-61193
So they are really the same adapter and weight/size are the same:
Approximate height: 30 mm (1.2 in) - AC Adapter
Approximate width: 50 mm (2.0 in) - AC Adapter
Approximate length: 126 mm (5.0 in) - AC Adapter
Weight: 360 g (0.79 lb) - AC Adapter (weight does not include the country-unique AC power cord)
Approximate length: 1.0 m (39.4 in) - AC Power Cord
    for both.

  • X250 huge disappointment - only 8GB RAM. Bye bye Lenovo.

Everybody makes mistakes, and it is great that Lenovo has acknowledged mistakes with the previous generation of trackpad, and reversed its decision to not have dedicated buttons. This is great news.
However, I struggle to understand the decision to only have one SODIMM slot in the X250. I figured it was a huge mistake in the X240 (downgrade from the previous model!) and it would be rectified in the X250.
Very sad day for me to realise I will no longer be able to use a Lenovo machine as my primary device, I held on until CES announcements to my trusty X230.
For super light and thin, there is the X1 Carbon. X230/240/250 users are different and want a true business device which has servicable parts AND UP TO 16GB RAM! They don't care if it is badged as an Ultrabook!
I can't believe that the next model up in size - the T450s - has 4GB SOLDERED on! and only allows a maximum of 12GB. Still no good.
This is again ridiculous - why can't I have 16GB in a portable machine from Lenovo?
The competition has the following alternatives which I will need to use:
    - HP 820 G1/H2
    - Dell E7240/E7250
Come on Lenovo get your act together and sort out a 12.5" laptop with 16GB RAM. PCIE SSD would be a bonus but not essential (RAM IS ESSENTIAL!).
Does anybody else feel this way? How else do we state our absolute disappointment that after a decade or more of Lenovo allegiance we have to switch? You have lost a lot of customers that I know due to this - the X230 was the last decent portable device that we could use.

They know very well about this demand - why do you think they released the T450 with two DIMM slots instead of 1 DIMM slot?
X250 is however a different case. The T450 had enough free room inside to take the second DIMM slot. X250 however, due to its smaller size, doesn´t. So either Lenovo would reduce the battery since and therefor life, which isn´t the smartest thing to do with an Ultraportable, or change the whole chassis - which also wasn´t an option for Broadwell. Lenovo doesn´t change the chassis with every generation, but rather with every two generations (like X220 -> X230, X240->X250 are nearly the same when it comes to the chassis.
T450s is the same, its like the T440s and there is no room inside my T440s for a second DIMM slot. The T450/T440 is slightly bigger on the other hand.
Before there are any changes in this matter, you will have to wait for Skylake - and buy one of your alternatives if you want a new 16 GB RAM system now.

  • How to format X240

    Hi,
I just got myself Thinkpad X240 that comes with Windows 7 Professional 64 with Windows 8 Pro Recovery DVD.
    The existing hard drive is:
    Windows7_OS (C - 450 GB
    Lenovo_Recovery (Q - 14GB
I would like to have another drive D: to seperate my program installations from my documents.
Like to find out how what are the steps to format the notebook. And do I need to create a recovery disc for Windows 7 Professional since the physical recovery disc that came in the box is a Windows 8 Pro. I prefer to use Windows 7 for now.
I'm looking at having the following:
C: - this is where i install all the programs ie Windows, IE, iTunes, MS Office etc
D: - this is where i keep all my working documents
Q: - what is "Lenovo-Recovery (Q"? Do I need to specifically create this drive during formatting, or will it be automatically created?
Appreciate a detailed explanation in steps as it's my first time formatting, thank you!

    Hi, maddinton
Actually, there are 3 partitions on Lenovo ThinkPads with win7 preloaded. In addition to you mentioned above there is System_DRV partition - primary, active, system, hidden. It includes some recovery tools fror the recovery features.
OK, refering to your questions I'd advice:
    1. create Lenovo Recovery media using Factory Recovery Disks application in Control Panel
    2. Backup your system using Lenovo Rescue & Recovery application
    3. you can delete partition Q: as you have Lenovo factory recovery media for win7 preloaded.
    4. launch Disk Manager and split partition C: (compress unused space) as you want. At the first step you'll see the maximum size that can be released on partition C:. Of course you have to leave less size for the new partition.
    5. create new partition, assign new letter for it
    6. reinstall Lenovo Rescue & Recovery in order to thnkvantage recovery option could work.

The fan on my X220 runs constantly - never stops; even when just reading my text mail or browsing the news!
It's annoying, especially in the evening and late at night.
BIOS is at 1.24  and everything else up to date according to Lenovo help desk.
Any, and all, suggestions are welcome.
I'll even install TPFanControl if someone has an .ini file that works for the X220.
    Or something better

  • X240 - Windows 7 - Activation issue

Hi, I have a X240 think pad laptop, it came with Windows 7 x64 installed as standard, with upgrade disks to Windows 8 (even though no disk drive). Anyway, Windows update killed the laptop, so I had to wipe the C Drive and re-install windows 7.
However now I cannot activate this version of windows. I just keep getting the DNS error when trying to activate. I was under the impression that this version was an OEM version and would auto activate.
I still have the Lenovo recovery D:\ Drive but don't know how to pull the Activation key from it. I have used a key finder but the key it gave me again didn't work when trying to activate. What can I do please?

    Hi,
    and welcome to the community.
Perhaps the OS reduction you have installed isn't the same as was preloaded. OEM isn't enough.
You can't use yourself the OEM reduction activation key as a set of symbols for manual activation, you can backup it using 3rd party tools. Activation key is stored in BIOS SLIC, it's inaccessible for the user.
If you have Lenovo preloaded image recovery media or its .wim archives on your drive you could perform laptop recovery to the factory state. The steps depends of what you have, your skills etc.

  • Can I replace x230T lcd with a full hd lcd from Thinkpad Yoga or x240?

Hello. As i mentioned in the title i intend to replace my lcd/digitizer if possible.I want to know if this operation can be performed somehow.I want to replace the hd 1366x768 res,so for example the TPY`s lcd/digitizer with FHD would be perfect. From what i observed on ebay, some lcd suppliers offer this kind of LCD(i don`t know if it is an original item or not) and on the description says it`s 30 pin conectors, others 40 pins ......As far as i know x230t lcd is based on 40 pin conector .Teoreticaly if i find a 40 pin TPY lcd/digitizer it should work fine ,isn`t it!?
Hope to hear you opinions as i`m not very skilful in these type of things and i wouldn`t risk my money and my laptop health if i`m not sure that is truly possible and risk free.
    Kind regards,

    Hi,
that's impossible to replace x230t screen with ones you've mentioned w/o hard work. The trouble isn't the connector type. x230s uses LVDS signaling for the internal screen, TPY or, for example, x240 (nice screen too) - eDP.
To be clear, x230 has eDP port too, but it's routed to the docking station connector.
In theory, it's possible to connect eDP matrice. For example, via signal converter. But where will you place that unit (pcb with chips) inside of the laptop?

  • X240 GPS (Ericsson N5321)

    Hi,
I am trying to do an installation with our own Windows 7 (Enterprise SP1 64bit) instead of the Windows 7 Professional coming from Lenovo, for our x240.
I get everything else installed conveniently, but for the Ericsson, I get it installed, and it sees the mobile broadband modem, but in the control panel I get the indication of the GPS as COM7, but with a question mark and the error 10 or the error 31.
I tried both the SCCM drivers (although we use LANDesk, more flexible) and manual installation, still the same. I even tried on a factory computer to uninstall the drivers and then reinstall them, but there it seems to work, so I am starting to wonder if the problem is not the fact of using Windows 7 Enterprise (though it seems to make no sense).
Any suggestion, if someone has already installed Windows 7 Enteprise on those laptops, would be appreciated...
       Thanks,
                                        Alessandro

In order to GPS worked, its chip should be turned on.
I can't imagine why that error might appear.
At least, check out the card firmware version:

  • X240 (20AL) Missing drivers

    Hi guys,
I've just built a new X240 (20AL) using ThinkVantage ThinInstaller to install all the Lenovo components. We're using the ThinkVantage Update Retriever (5.00.0010)  to download all relevant updates to a central repository.

  • Install Shield doesn't work in X240

    Dear all,
First of all let me say hello to everybody. I just register few minutes ago, so this is my first post.
I have a problem with my Thinkpad X240, Windows 7 Proffesional SP1, 64 bits.  I try to execute some old installers (built with Install Shield), but they don't work. I execute the installer and nothing happens, but I can see the process running in the task manager window (name="setup.exe*32", description = "32-bit Setup Launcher).
My colleague's computer is a X230, Windows 7 Proffesional SP1, 64 bits as well, but the installer works on it.
I think the problem happens due to some drivers, but I don't know how to procceed.
Plase, I would be very grateful if you could help me.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Best regards.

    Did you clean a registry?
Though you don't see any error message installshield related look at the article below, there are a lot of solutions:

  • X220 Lenovo Enhanced Experience 2.0

Hi, I recently got Lenovo X220, and installed Crucial SSD c300 and transferred the image from the existing hard drive (so no clean install of windows 7).  From what I read, I should be able to take advantage of Lenovo Enhanced Experience 2.0 since it was not a clean install and all partitions from the original hard drive is still preserved.  However,  can someone tell me how to turn this feature on?  Or is this automatic once the laptop recognizes SSD?  I looked under Toolbox, but could not find anything.  Thank you.

  • Fingerprint reader on Lenovo KUF0452 keyboard not working with Lenovo X240

    Hi,
I have a Lenovo KUF0452 keyboard with built-in fingerprint reader. Up until a month ago I had a Lenovo X220 laptop which co-existed happily with the keyboard - I could unlock Windows with a swipe of the keyboard's fingerprint reader.
I've now replaced the X220 with an X240 and can no longer unlock Windows using the keyboard's fingerprint reader - I just get this error on the Windows lock screen:
A match for the fingerprint was not found in the fingerprint database.
I have Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro v8.01.35(x64) installed and have used it to enroll a couple of fingerprints for the X240's fingerprint scanner, but when I try to use it to enroll fingerprints for the keyboard's scanner the app's progress bar doesn't move off 0%, so I assume the app isn't accepting the keyboard's fingerprint scanner as a valid input.
The X240 is docked, with the lid shut, so I have no easy access to the laptop's fingerprint scanner which is why I want to use the keyboard's fingerprint scanner to unlock Windows.
How can I get the keyboard's fingerprint scanner to work with my X240?
    Kind regards,
    /Neil

    hi jenniby,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I believe it is the Lenovo B570 you're saying,
    Try doing a power drain,
Remove AC adapter and Battery, then hold down the power button for at least 15 sec. this will drain off the power from the MOBO.
Reconnect everything and see if that works,
Also try using an external Keyboard to test out the Windows.
If that did not work I suggest Calling Lenovo Technical support for Hardware Concern.
    Regards
