X220 with Windows 7 (64 bit) Pro using SSD Samsung 840 (500G) drive
I am using a Thinkpad X220 (4291) laptop with 8 gigs of RAM. I recently switched my HDD for an SSD (Samsung 840 which is 500G). I have been following the posts and have set the BIOS accordingly as well as updated firmware for the drive. I use Crystal Disk Mark for measuring the read/write of the drive and am not getting the speeds I should. I currently get:
CrystalDiskMark 3.0.2 (C) 2007-2013 hiyohiyo
Crystal Dew World : http://crystalmark.info/
* MB/s = 1,000,000 byte/s [SATA/300 = 300,000,000 byte/s]
Sequential Read : 93.514 MB/s
Sequential Write : 95.135 MB/s
Random Read 512KB : 89.534 MB/s
Random Write 512KB : 89.051 MB/s
Random Read 4KB (QD=1) : 12.735 MB/s [ 3109.1 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=1) : 29.898 MB/s [ 7299.3 IOPS]
Random Read 4KB (QD=32) : 85.220 MB/s [ 20805.6 IOPS]
Random Write 4KB (QD=32) : 54.319 MB/s [ 13261.4 IOPS]
Test : 1000 MB [C: 5.3% (24.6/465.8 GB)] (x5)
Date : 2013/01/14 13:23:26
OS : Windows 7 Professional SP1 [6.1 Build 7601] (x86)
As you can see the speed is drastically slower than advertised. (Should get 504 Mbits/sec read)
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Jamie
I have an X220 with W8 Pro and Samsung 840 Pro. Getting 528 read and 474 sequential write. Did you install the Samsung Magician software and update the firmware on the SSD?
Samsung Magician will also provide a speedtest you can check against crystal disk mark.
Lots of sites for optimizing SSD settings but unless it is a firmware issue I don't know why you would get such slower speeds.

HP Pavilion P2-1013w Desktop PC - UEFI Install with WIndows 8.1 Pro RTM causes hang
I have an HP Pavilion P2-1013W Desktop PC with the UEFI enabled bios.
With Windows 8.1 Pro RTM Build (MSDN Download available now from Microsoft - Released September 17th 2013 - Again,. this is 8.1, a.k.a. Windows Blue RTM)
SATA Mode is set to AHCI
BIOS is UEFI Enabled
I boot from the Windows 8.1 Pro USB Installation Media using the UEFI: USB Storage option, Windows Setup starts. I get to the partitions screen, remove the partitions then click New. Windows Setup creates the 4 Partitions (Recovery, MSR, System and Primary) as expected.
When I click Next and Setup begins to copy files, the system locks up. The mouse pointer stops moving, keyboard is unresponsive, and it will sit at 0% for as long as it's left on.
After checking, Microsoft makes a few notes about the requirements. Setup will not run if the OS does not match the UEFI 'bitness'. If this were the issue, I would get a text-mode message about it being the wrong architecture. I don't get that. I get the install wizard, so it is supported.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh824898.aspx Has more information.
And I suspect this is a version problem as the original Windows 7 install was a UEFI install, not Legacy. It appears the BIOS firmware I have installed is not compatible with Windows 8.1.
Will an update be made available? Or will I have to revert to WIndows 7 UEFI, and upgrade?Hello JODYL1,

How can I get Acrobat 7 Pro to work with Windows 8.1 Pro?
Apparently Acrobat Pro 7 is not compatible with Windows 8.1 Pro X64. I am trying to save a web page to pdf but this feature does not work in Windows 8.1 Pro. Is there a patch or update that will fix this problem?
It might be possible to get a lot of it working, but you will have to install a separate PS driver and rename it Adobe PDF and set the port to File. The print process is then to print to the Adobe PDF printer and then open the created file in Distiller to complete the process. I have been successful with this on a Win7, 64-bit system, but not tried it on a Win8 system. You are pretty much on your own if problems arise, unless you are willing to try wild suggestions that we might give (guesses really).

ThinkPad W530 with Windows 8 x64 Pro BSOD when connecting to projector
Nine, that only covers Widows 7. Many people in this thread have reported the problem using Windows 8. Has that been addressed by Lenovo yet? Stability problems like this should NEVER be allowed to go so long without a resolution.
Edit Note : This thread was created base from the previous thread "ThinkPad W530 with Windows 7 x64 Pro BSOD when connecting to projector. As we currently Cx reporting facing the same issue on Win8 I have seperated this thread in order not toconfuse other customer. For cutomers facing this issue please continue posting in this thread.Hi shan_mcarthur,
Thanks for posting. I read through this thread again and noticed that most of customers here do indeed have Windows 7 installed as what the title represented unless I'm mistaken or may have missed out are you or anyone else here facing the same issue on Windows 8. If that is the case I'll be more than happy to bring this up with the teams but it will have to be a new thread though as I'd like to keep the resolution separate based on the OS use just to not confuse other customer .
For those facing the same issue above on Win8, please do let me know so we can start a discussion around this.
Do let me know.

Bluetooth do not show itself to or recognise cellphones on HP Pavilion g4-2020tx Notebook with windows 8.1 pro 64-bit.Yes the comm say it is working fine but it is clearly lying and yes I did switch on visibility.I do not find any bluetooth driver on the Notebooks support page any longer.
Hi ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. It is a great site for information and questions. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion g4-2020tx Notebook and Bluetooth not working. Here are some links that might help. I would check to make sure Bluetooth is on. It shows you how to do that under Connecting Bluetooth. A device such as computer might need to have the Discovery setting turned on. To turn on Discovery in Windows 8, from the Start screen, type Change Bluetooth to open the Search charm, and then select Change Bluetooth settings from the search results. Hope this helps. Thanks. -

How do i know if my itunes is compatible with windows 64 bit?
How do i know if my itunes is compatible with windows 64 bit?
Did you download the 64-bit installer?
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT) as you start iTunes, then going to Edit > Preferences > Store and turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

Hello,
I bought in Orlando Best buy one SSD Samsung 840 EVO 250GB and when I tried to install in my laptop the SSD it was not possible Clone the current HD because it´s not working properly.
I´d like some support to understand what is my option to solve such problem?
And also, how can I get the second via of invoice?
Thanks.
Best regards,
LeonardoHi leozanne,
Sorry you’re having issues trying to install this Solid State Drive (SSD) into your laptop. If the SSD is defective you would need to bring it back to your local Best Buy store within 15 days to return or exchange the unit.
If it is not defective, but you are merely having issues installing it, I would suggest visiting a Geek Squad precinct in your local Best Buy store. You could also try posting this inquiry to the Computers & Tablets board.

do you have a SATA-to-USB or SATA-to-FireWire adapter, to allow you to access your SSD externally? If so, are you able to format it externally without problems?
Note that earlier versions of the Samsung 840 EVO firmware were known to be problematic on some Macs. You can download its latest firmware (for burning onto a bootable DVD) from the Samsung firmware page. -
IMac early 2008 Yosemite SSD Samsung 840 Evo= Kernel panic
Hi ,

I've tried reinstalling it, SMC reset, PRAM reset, Disk and Permissions repair and various clean installation but nothing changed. When I turn on my Mac on the apple logo appears the Kernel panic and restarts well. I tried to install the OS in the old HD and it work fine but is really slow. Help me please and sorry for my englishI haven't changed the original RAM.

I am using SCCM 2012 SP1 running on windows server 2008 R2 deploying to windows Surface Pro, I am deploying Windows 8.1 Enterprise using PXE.

New Satellite C660-1F1 windows 64-bit -cant use graphics editing software
Hi Guys....any help appreciated...this is the message I sent to Toshiba support but they are taking their time getting back to me:
Important information: Satellite C660-1F1
Key Features
- Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (pre-installed, Toshiba-HDD recovery)
- Intel Core i3-380M Processor
- DVD-SuperMulti +-R (Double Layer)
- 2048 MB DDR3 RAM (1066MHz)
- 39.6cm (15.6") TruBrite HD (1366 x 768) High Brightness display with LED backlight with 16:9 aspect ratio
Hi... I purchased my laptop about a month ago from Argos and it has a 2 year warranty. I have one big problem - the 2 main graphics editing programmes that I use do not work. Both Corel Paintshop Photo Pro x3 and Adobe CS5 can both be installed and opened but as soon as I try to save a photo or edit a photo both of the programmes crash and i have to close it down by using end task in task manager.
This happened when I installed the full versions of both programmes which I purchased and it also happens when you download the trial versions from both the Corel and the Adobe download sites. I have been on so many help forums for both adobe and corel and the most helpful pointer came from one of the designers at Adobe - a Chris Cox.
He very logically stated that as it happened in both of these 2 graphics editing packages that it was most likely a problem with the graphics card drivers or the actual graphics card hardware. I purchased a 64-bit operating system to handle precisely these 2 programmes which can be exhausting on the system. I know i only have 2 GB RAM at the moment but it has been happening with other people...some who even have 8GB and 16GB of RAM which is what I will have in the next few weeks. However, not if I cannot rectify this problem. Please can you help/advise the best solution. This seems to be a problem only with the 64-bit systems. Both Adobe and Corel are 64-bit compatible.
There is also a message that appears when I open Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended....which is as follows:
...."Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver, and has temporarily disabled GPU enhancements, Check the video card manufacturers website for the latest software."
I then click that message away ....use the programme, edit something, try to save and it crashes. I have gone through all troubleshooting directions and ran countless diagnostics but there only seems to be one common denominator between the 2 different programmes and that is my Toshiba laptop.... I even tried installing another large photo editing software package to test it and I had the same result - an application crash.
Please help! Thanking you in advance.
Kind regards
JohnHello John
Have you already got some answer from Toshiba?
What to say my friend? In my opinion the best advice you can get from Corel and Adobe. They have best experience with own product and have probably tested them on different hardware platforms.
Notebook manufacturers offer different notebook models with different hardware configurations. Some of them are cheap and offered with average hardware. The performance is not the best but good enough for every day activities like internet, office, mailing and so on.
On other hand there are notebooks with excellent and powerful hardware. Very often such notebooks cost twice as much as cheap low budget products.
Please dont understand me wrong but your C notebook is not the best one for usage with such powerful software.
I really dont know what Toshiba can do about it. I can imagine that you need other graphic driver but graphic driver support for mobile computers is pretty limited and I dont think you can do much about that.
What you can try is to download and install driver from graphic card manufacturer but you must do this on your own risk.
Sorry friend but I dont have any other advice for you. I just think youve bought wrong notebook for such complex graphic operations. 2 GB RAM? I dont know.
Good luck. -
Power manager for Thinkpad t440 with windows 8.1 pro
hello,

Someone could help me where i can get this software. I could not find in lenovo website.

Solved!
Go to Solution.Starting with Windows 8, the conventional Power Manager with charging thresholds is no longer officially offered.
Here's a third party tool to set what you need:
http://thinkutils.wordpress.com/download/
You still need to have the requisite power management drivers installed for it to function properly.

I am starting a graduate school program and I would like to purchase a MacBook Pro. The options for the non-retina display fit my needs best, but it sounds like the resolution requirements for Windows 8.1 Pro do not match the MacBook Pro without retina. I need Windows to run a statistics program (SAS) and ArcGIS for mapping. Any thoughts or experience installing Windows 8.1 Pro on MBP without retina?
The native res on my 13-inch non-Retina is 1280x800. You might check with Parallels support or their forums to see if this is a problem.
If you go with the non-Retina 13-inch, I'd recommend getting 8GB RAM (standard is 4GB) because Win emulators need a fair bit of memory.
