X2200 won't boot, doesn't get past sun splash screen

Hi All,
I am having a problem with a x2200. I am unable to enter the BIOS by pressing F2 at the splash screen. Also, it will not boot from any attached devices. I am able to access the ELOM just fine. I have tried to upgrade and downgrade the BIOS but according to the ELOM only the BMC version is ever updated. I have also tried removing the memory from the system, but the ELOM reports that the memory is still present which I find very strange.
In the event log the following error is shown several times:
     BIOS/POST Watchdog timeout cause STR_HARD_RESET
Does anyone have a suggestion of something else to try? or need more information about the problem to render a suggestion?
Some additional information:
currently BIOS Version : S39_3B13
BMC Version : I have tried 1.91, 2.70 (corresponding to the BIOS version), 2.91, 3.20
FYI, This is a brand new x2200 that has sat for about a year and half that I am now just getting to, so it is out of warranty.
Thanks for the help, cheers
Dan

DanHi, I've had the exact same problem.
Replacing RAM sticks in an X 2200 M2, from 2 x 2 GB DDR2 to 4 x 512 MB.
I had a monitor plugged to the machine, but no display. LED's were green and "OK".
I could connect just fine to the SP web interface, so I checked the "event log" from there. I got this message each time the machine tried to start:
BIOS/POST Watchdog timeout cause STR_HARD_RESETThe SP still found 2 x 2048 MB RAM, but there were four DIMMS in use in the server. Even though the server had 4 x 512 MB (also original "Sun" RAM, from another Sun Fire X2xxx machine). They were connected just as stated on the large barebone lid sticker.
Nor did it help me, clearing the CMOS.
After connecting the original RAM sticks again, the server started just fine.
I am running the latest SP firmware and latest BIOS version for X2200 M2.

  • PowerBook G4 1.67GHz Won't Boot, Doesn't Get Past the Grey Screen

The other day I was attempting to Safe Boot, and during the grey screen with the rotating cog, I could hear the hard drive spin down, the the display would turn off. The computer worked fine for the next few days, and now when I attempt to boot it (with nothing in the disc drive as well), it does the same thing. It simply shuts down before getting to the "Log In" screen.
When I used the Tiger install disc (note that it was a Tiger disc that came with our iMac Core 2 Duo, my other disc is at my parents' house), and held the C key while booting, I experienced my first kernel panic. I restarted and ejected the disc, but the computer still won't boot. I tried resetting the PRAM by restarting and holding CommandOption+PR, and I've even let it cycle a few times with no luck. I also did what was suggested on an Apple support page, where I remove the AC adapter plug, remove the battery, hold the Power button for 5 seconds, re-insert the battery, reattach the AC adapter, and try starting that way, and that didn't work either.
I have no idea what the problem is, I've never had an issue with the computer before at all. Any suggestions?
(I tried posting this in the Tiger forums, but it was suggested that I post here instead)

Ah, I believe I do have the a TechTool CD that came with my old iBook, perhaps I'll give that a shot.
I first noticed the issue when trying to Safe Boot because I was attempting to install the Flash 9 player. Apparently many people are having issues with it, and it was suggested to me on the Adobe forums that I try installing it in Safe Mode (the install software hangs at "Items Remaining to be Installed: 4").
I'll bring my PowerBook to my parents' house this weekend and see if I can give it a shot with the correct disc. I'll try to post back here to let you know if it worked out!

You don't, take it to Apple for repair.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • New Graphics Card won't get past HP splash screen.

A customer bought in an Hp Pavilion P6755a, well out of warrenty with a failing graphics card. The customer does a lot of gaming so we sugested they repalce the3 graphics card, and get something a bit more powerfull at the sametime.  We settled on an Gigabyte GTX 750TI, as it has resonable power at a low price, but more importanly it doesnt require extra power.
Popped in the new card, but the computer won't get past the HP splash screen, can't enter the BOIS either.
Trouble shooting I have already tried
*Installed a differnt card (GTX 230) which worked fine
*Tried the GTX750Ti in another computer to check it wasn't faulty (The other computer was even older than this one by several years)
*Tried a more powerfull PSU  (it worked fine in a another computer with only a 300W PSU)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello @RileyNZL,
I understand that when you install the GeForce GTX 750 Ti graphics card in your HP Pavilion p6755a Desktop PC it will not boot up. The reason for this is because your motherboard only supports PCI Express 1.0 and the graphics card is a PCI Express 3.0. Theoretically, the card should work, but there is a break in the support chain at around PCI Express version 2.1 where PCI Express 1.0 is no longer compatible. I suspect that your other computer does not have PCI Express 1.0.
I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Computer won't boot, all I get is a black screen

I'm using Vista home premium and everything was working fine up until the other day. My computer froze up and I shut it down to restart. Upon restarting, I was given the option to start windows normally or in safe mode. I selected to start up windows. After that all I got was a black screen. The computer is still running, I can hear the fans and the ligts are on.
I have been looking for a solution to this problem and would really like to fix it myself. I have tried all of the F-menu options, but all I get is the black screen. Vista came pre installed on my computer, so I don't have the Vista cd/dvd.
Please help me if you can.

    Hi
May I ask you what computer you have?
Why you dont post this important information?
Can you boot in safe mode? Maybe a driver or virus has something muddled up in Windows registry and so the computer cant boot properly anymore.
In worst case you have to reinstall Windows using Toshiba recovery disk. :(

  • Muse CC 2014 won't get past the splash screen

This is the error I get when I try to open Muse. It does the splash screen, the little progress bar gets to around 90% and then this pops up. What do I do now?

    Hi Brad,
Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?
If that fails as well, please create a new admin user account on your computer. Login with this new user and try to install Muse. Please let me know how it goes.

  • My phone won't load. i  cant get past the loading screen

my phone died last night so before i went ot bed i put it on the charger. when i woke up this morning my phone was stuck on the loading screen.im afraid i will have to restore my phone

A Sprint phone is a CDMA phone and it will be the same as Verizon, which is also CDMA.  You will not need a sim card for a CDMA phone to work in the US - it connects to the correct network and you can only use a Sprint iPhone on the Sprint network.
There should be a sim card slot, but this is only for use when travelling with local sim cards - if you are in the US you have to use the phone on Sprint because it is a Sprint phone and you then don't need a sim card to connect to a CDMA network which is why you probably never received one.
If the phone won't work, then you need to return it for a full refund as has already been suggested and purchase another iPhone either from Apple or from the phone carrier that you wish to use your phone with.
You also need to be aware of what phone you are purchasig before you do so from a source like Craiglist.
Ultimately, you can only use a Sprint phone on the Sprint network and you don't need a sim card for that.

  • Computer doesn't get past login screen with new HDD

I recently purchased a new Seagate (750GB Momentus) hard drive for my 2010 Macbook Pro. The first one didn't work well so I sent it in for a replacement, but now the replacement one is having the same issue. When I boot the computer, it doesn't get past the boot screen half the time. When it does, however, I can't get past the login screen; when I click login it flashes white and then goes back to the login screen. Disk utility claims to repair the drive each time that it is run, but always comes up with the same errors after booting. I am totally out of ideas.
    Thanks in advance!

    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from your Recovery HD. When the menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (for Intel Macs) or APM (for PPC Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
To boot to the Recovery HD restart the computer. After the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and "R" keys until you see the spinning gear.

  • My iMac starts, but won't get past the loading screen?

My iMac starts up, but won't even get past the white screen with the Apple logo.
It kept giving me black screens, and would not start in safety mode. After command + option + p + r, the black screens stopped coming, but it still won't get past the loading screen, if I let it load long enough the Apple logo is replaced by a "denied" symbol but that is the only thing that happens. By hitting command + d, I was told nothing is wrong. When pressing command + r and going to disk utility, it found an issue while verifying and repairing. At first it stated "invalid journal" but now it only says to reinstall everything and that the problem couldn't be solved. I cannot mount the harddrive, and Time Machine just searches for copies without getting anywhere. When I try installing OS X (Mavericks) again, the harddrive doesn't even show up. What do I do?

The HD sounds like it has crashed, take it into your local Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP), if you bought AppleCare this will be covered. If you don't have an Apple Store in your area and don't know of any AASPs then please click https://locate.apple.com/country to begin finding one.

  • MacBook Pro won't get past grey startup screen

I have a late 2011 15 inch MacBook Pro running Mavericks. Around a month ago, maybe more, it began to sometimes completely freeze or just turn off while Inwas using it. Sometimes it would start up again, sometimes it wouldn't and would beep three times. Eventually it wouldn't start up at all and would just beep. I started it up in recovery (holding command +R) and ran a disk repair, it said the disk couldn't be repaired. I had it backed up on Time Machine so I replaced the HD and restored from Time Machine. It was fine for a couple days after that, then the old symptoms returned. I took the RAM out and replaced them with some RAM of the same size (2 chips, 2GB each) taken out of a Windows laptop that I had. Again, it was fine for a few days then started turning off and beeping. Then it would turn on but not boot up, i.e. get stuck on the grey screen with the spinning circle. I tried booting in recovery, booting into safe mode, holding option and choosing a disk; in all cases it would just stay stuck on grey screen with the spinning thing. I tried PRAM and SMC reset, no result. At one point, it got through boot up in safe mode but took like an hour to do so. I restarted from safe mode and it took another hour and booted up normally. Then it turned off again and wouldn't turn back on. I opened it up, reseated the RAM and cleaned he fans, which were filled with dust and build up. It turned on and ran normally for a couple days in which I wasn't doing much on it, just watching stuff on VLC or reading, so not really using it and clicking and stuff. Next day, I open it (from sleep, it hasn't been shut down at all since I got it to run again), and try to open Firefox and actually work; it keeps freezing and being incredibly slow, to the point where it was totally frozen and I couldn't force quit or anything. So I held the power key to shut it down; since then it's back to not getting past the grey screen, even when I leave it for over an hour. No idea what to do, anyone have an idea? Thanks in advance.

You have to use Mac specific RAM chips.
You have to buy new RAM modules, I guess.
If you have extended AppleCare, contact Apple.
    Best.

  • My new iMac had the old data transferred in-store but now it won't accept the password on the first screen. How can I reset this? I can't get past the first screen as a result.

I cannot get past the initial screen on my new iMac. Data was transferred from my old computer so when I turned it on It automatically had my name in the window and asked for the password, but none of my old passwords seem to be accepted. How can I fix this?? It's a new IMac with osx.

Which password isn't working? The one to access the iPad or the one to get your hotmail?
If hot mail, you go into the settings, mail, contacts and calendars and edit your hot mail account. Of if it won't edit, delete it off the iPad, then re-add it with the new password.

  • I have a MacBook Pro, it recently started freezing upon startup. It would get to a blue screen and just sit there. I've tried booting in safemode to run disk repair and still doesnt help. If I do manage to get past the blue screen, it still freezes

My mac keeps freezing upon startup. It will get to the blue screen and promptly freeze. If I manage to get past the blue screen, and open up youtube on google chrome, it will freeze before it loads youtube. I've tried safeboot and disk repair, nothing seems to work. I even tried to factory reset it but it wont connect to my internet when I reboot with power + option.. any ideas?

This can be used to boot the machine and delelte enough files to get it to boot normally.
.Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Read about storage drive so you can store your extra stuff.
    Most commonly used backup methods
Also here to see how a full boot drive slows the machine down
    Why is my computer slow?
