X230+1 Wish List Thread

Hi all!
Because it's my birthday, I thought I'd make a wish or two
I've been keen to upgrade my X200 for the last couple of years, but the newer generations never quite do it for me. This time I thought the community could offer up some wish lists for the next generation X-Series (X240?) during the development cycle (in the hopes that Lenovo will read it), rather than just complaining about the new model after its release. ;-)
(this is about the regular X-Series, not the tablet)
Here goes my list:
Higher resolution IPS screens - 768 vertical pixels just don't cut it. Bonus: Install a 13 inch screen - I'm convinced it would fit in the existing case given the large bezel.
Allow 3 simultaneous digital video outputs. Sandy Bridge's graphics does support this, but the X230 does not (don't understand why). The high-end docks have 4 digital video outputs - would be nice to be able to make use of more of them!
The mSATA slot should support SATA3 - a lot of people like having a big spinning disk in the drive bay and a fast SSD in the mSATA slot. All current generation mSATA drives support SATA3. I know that means sacrificing SATA3 support on the dock, but I think that's ok - we have USB3 now anyway.
Don't put the audio and network ports on the right-hand side - that's where I put my mouse! Network on the left, audio on the front (or left as a last resort - sorry lefties!).
Fix the trackpad: I'm a trackpoint guy, but a second option that works well would be nice.
Fix the keyboard layout: I can live with chiclets, but please revert the layout to the time-tested ThinkPad layout. Bonus: Allow the X220 keyboards to work in newer generations (BIOS update to fix the keycodes).
A little thinner! It should be built like a tank, but does it need to look like one?
It would be nice if we could have WWAN + mSATA in the same machine - no idea if this is possible.
All USB ports should be USB3 - and an extra USB port would not go amiss.
Quad core CPU options would be nice, but I get that it may not be possible due to the TDPs.
Obviously keep up the great build quality, tech support, docking and battery options.
That's mine. Next!

Kudos to your list.  Well done.  Without question, for me is the need for a higher resolution screen.  And, as noted, I too would like to think it could be installed in thes same size case.  Apple has figured it out.  I have had a T400S, and two X220T's.  I love them, but I cannot buy another (X230 or future X240) unless they include a higher res screen.  Sorry Lenovo, but your current res is way too out dated.  Please get with the program.  Another thought is to shrink your new X1Carbon down to a 13" size.
I currently expand my screen real estate to a second, external monitor.  I would like to be able to expand my screen real estate to the laptop screen and two external monitors.
A larger SSD drive (256) would be nice.
I never use the track stick. I am a dedicated trackpad gyy and it would be nice for a better trackpad but don't eliminate the right and left buttons.
Thinner is always nicer.
Hopefully lenovo is listening.
Thanks.

  • Comment to new wish list

I usually only read these forums through the Newsgroups interface, in which case you don't see any explanation of or introduction to new sub-forums. So I visited the forums' web interface and read the introduction. Here are my comments:
    > Welcome to the FrameMaker wish list area. Here, you can make your

If the intention is to simply discuss possible improvements and their
merits with your fellow FM users, fine. But I would guess that many
people posting here would assume that this is a forum for getting feature
requests sent to Adobe, directly or indirectly. Especially if you don't
use the web interface or don't read the introduction quoted above.
In that case, I have posted my opinion on such postings in the previous
"wish list" thread, and I won't repeat it here again. I just encourage
the forum hosts and other forum participants to keep an eye of the
postings here and make clear that this is a user-to-user discussion
forum, nothing more (if that's the intention).
If the forum hosts intend to actually collect and summarize these
postings to Adobe R&D or product management, please make that clear.
I really think this affects the type of "requests" to post here, and the
spirit of the following discussions. In my opinion, it may be hard to
combine a true "feature request forum" and a more free "discussion of
merit forum" into something truly useful.

    Thomas,

Unfortunately, the forum software doesn't send the forum description
    through the nntp: channel.
I am aware of your sentiments on the "Feature request" issue, and I do
make the marketing and product management and support folks at Adobe
aware of these forums at every opportunity.
Adobe already has a direct route for feature requests (as indicated in
the forum description) for all products. Any of the Adobe product
"Feature Request" forums are in the same spirit as this one - it's
just that some Forums have more active participation of Adobe
employees (on their own time), but that doesn't mean that nobody from
the FM team will read these postings. One can hope that some ideas
here will strike a chord and be acted upon.
Please also don't discount the various plug-in and script developers
that may pick up and run with any of the ideas presented here to
provide all of us with something to enhance the product or our
    workflows.
All I hope for is that we can make the best of the opportunities that
    are presented to us.

  • Wish list for Encore

I don't see a wish list category here so maybe we could start one.
My number one irritant in Encore 2.0 is the default ON of "Sync Button Text and Name." This in on by default and it should be off or unchecked in my opinion.
I do all my menus in Photoshop and import them into Encore. My buttons are all set. Then when I start assigning buttons to timelines I forget to uncheck this and it screws up my PS buttons by changing them to whatever I called my timelines. I really hate this. Thank goodness for undo, but when a default is never what you use, then the reverse should be the default. At least that's my two cents worth.
    Thanks,
    [email protected]

posted this earlier in another thread until i found out that this is where i should have posted.
    so here is my list:
    1. The ability to import power point slide shows into encore as a slide show. This would make it really handy to import some ones previously created slide show and turn it into a DVD slide show. It doesn't have to do all the fancy animations or transitions, just import the slide shows. Yes I know I can export from power point to jpgs. Have you really looked at the results? Crap is all I have to say. Of course I could recreate them in Photoshop or some other program that lets picture and titling be created. You know how much extra time that step costs?
    2. Could you make a project manager for encore that is similar to the one in premier? I would like to be able to trim the project and remove "temporary files". I especially hate the number of temporary menus that accumulate in the menus folder. I want to be able to back up the necessary files only, not all the junk. it would also be nice if it would grab the video(I) that make up the project and compile them in to the folder that I designate as the new project folder, just like premier does.
    3. its not really to hard to now, but it would be nice if there was some method for telling encore that you are creating an Easter egg. Currently there are a few steps to doing it and it is all manual. It would be nice if you could designate a button as being an Easter egg and then tell encore which choice of ways you want it to handle it. For instance is it just a simple Easter egg where you go on the right direction on a button and viola, you found it. Or is it a button that you go to and it goes to a duplicate menu and then you need to hit the right button a couple of times and then viola, you found it. Any thing to make my DVD creation to have a few less steps.
    6. Another thing that I think encore needs has to do with the flowchart. Give me some zoom on that baby. I like it, but it would be nice if I could zoom out to look at the overall structure.
    7. The ability to normalize the audio across the entire DVD. My wife made a disc and some parts were loud and others were so quiet. It would be nice to not have to do this for each clip before in premier, but leave it till the final stage of DVD production so that it only has to be done once.
    more to come :)

  • Missing Features, Bugs, and Wish List for Apple Engineers

I LOVE my iPhone. It is by far the best phone I have ever had. The interface is awesome. Great job Apple, but there are missing features and bugs that all of us want updated or wish were added. I know they were probably already thought of by Apple, but in an effort to make the phone perfect removed to make it more stable. Now that it is out lets make it perfect.
This thread will hopefully give you guys guidance from the early adopters who share your love for the phone (and others who want to chime in). I want to separate the list into a few categories and hope everyone will add to this thread with their ideas:
    1) BUGS/CHANGES TO EXISTING APPS:
    - Period should be in alphabet keyboard (make space smaller) or when you go to symbol keyboard and hit period it should automatically go back to the alphabet keyboard (unless you double click the symbol button which means stay there like caps lock)
    - Individual delete (like Mail) of all lists (eg. call list, bookmarks list, history etc.
    - Multiple item in a List delete (see below for how to select). This is also so un-Mac like to not be able to select multiple items to delete. It is all or none for clear/delete on the iPhone.
    - Implement double finger slide...in maps double finger tap zooms out so the OS recognizes this, why don't you use a double finger drag to mean "select". There is no way to select some words in a sentence or a group of items. This could be how. eg. In a list (eg Mail) double finger slide over items you want to select (instead of singer finger drag which moves the list) then one finger slide to the right to delete the selected items from the list.
    - Copy and paste. Since there are no menus this would require a gesture (ala newton)
    - when you tap the battery icon it should bring up a battery status dialog (ala wifi join dialog where the screen dims): present charge, big battery icon (like the charging one), time left. In addition, instead of giving battery usage details only after a full charge, give it at any point.
    - Since you know that nights and weekends are at set times (and not variable like it was on Sprint where I came from)...the phone usage details should be broken down into: peak minutes used and N+W minutes used (not hard to figure out since you know the time and dates of calls)
    - Be able to change font/background etc in Notes app
    - faster way to get to favorites in the killer phone app after turning on phone. Just seems like it takes too many taps to get there to make a call on a phone.
    2) WISH LIST FOR NEW APPS (apps that can be added with existing hardware, see #3 for other wishes)
    - iChat (obvious and probably almost done)
    - VOIP (probably not going to happen, and wouldn't work in Europe where I would need it most gven network speeds there)
    - Flight tracker widget
    - Exchange support (probably in the works)
    - Push email from gmail and .Mac (probably in the works)
    - Bluetooth sync
    - DUN (probably not going to happen since AT+T does not want it)
    - Data/File storage with sync
    - TODO APP that syncs to to do in iCal
    - Ringtones, definitely from songs from iPod side (obvious and coming soon I am sure)
-Search function like spotlight. Global would be awesome, but even just in contacts
    3) FUTURE HARDWARE RELATED WISHES (stuff we wish could be in hardware version 1 but know require a version 2):
    - GPS
    - 3G
    - LED that changes color and/or pulses (like MacBooks sleep light) that indicates things (eg charge status, Voice mail status, roaming status etc) without turning on the phone
    - Move camera to front to allow video conferencing (I doubt Steve would allow since it would mess up the clean front look)
Well I could go on and will add to this thread later, but I need to go to work to show everyone (and sell more apple stuff since many of my colleagues have been converted to macs). Now, all you pioneers, start adding things to help our beloved phone become better!

    iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.6)

I agree with your post! I'm amazed by the simplicity, the screen, and the apps on the iPhone. They all have worked wonderfully for me, with just a few crashes while surfing or loading big email images. (I heard that shutting down the phone and restarting helps that.)
The single flaw for me is that the phone app itself should be primary, with more options (quicker access, unique ringtones, voicedial?) and ease of use. The other applications are so elegant, but I need my phone to be very accessible and practical too.
    My wish list:
    1) Make it fewer taps to get to the point where you can make a phone call. How about the main button can be programmed to take you wherever you want. I'd choose to go to Phone Favorites, so I could speed dial right away.
    2) Be able to set a preference as to what app you're in when you wake up the phone. I'd choose phone keypad, some might choose iCal, etc.
    3) Add the period and comma symbols to the alpha keyboard.
    4) Allow different ringtones for specific caller ID's.
    5) Copy and paste.
V2) With new hardware, add a "back" button to return to prev. screen. It could be small, on the side near volume?

  • E71 Feedback and Wish list for future development

    Hi Nokia and Nokia Fans.
E71 is a masterpiece but I believe there's much room for improvement. My E71 is indispensable to me. I wish Nokia will strive to thrive the E series and in particular the E71.
Here's my wish list / features to add:
    1. A Task Manager for Symbian that's Nokia naively developed is absolutely essential as it's required to manage all aspects of applications, processes and threads, especially the misbehaving ones.
    2. Use better GPS Chipset with better sensitivity as the current one is really slackly.
    3. High-Speed WiFi connection to access and manage the phone including the mass storage instead of fiddling with wires.
    4. Secure zone for creating password-protected notes/memos/etc, previously called "wallet".
    5. Add SMS "Listen" feature for sent messages.
    6. Add "Timed" Profiles.
My feedback / Issues to fix:
    1. "Memory card in use" Error. Despite proper removal of USB connection when using PC Suite or Mass Storage data transfer.
    2. Configure to display "Firstname Lastname" format .
    3. Configure Date display to American format (Wednesday December 03 2008).
    4. Save current "configurations and user preferences" for future deployment after firmware upgrade or maintenance routine.
    5. When receiving a Bluetooth message with (.sis or .sisx) attachment, provide save to memory card option rather than launching installtion process.
    6. Setting up "WPA2 Only" mode on WLAN Security Settings for a particular Access Point will not allow communication despite the access point router/gateway is configured to work on this particular mode.
    7. Camera is another isssue. Fix color fidelity and picture clarity issues.
    Thanks
    .......To be revised as needed.

Nice wishlist, willing to front up the extra cash to have these features? Got to remember that until these feature become more common they will stay as premium items and that you need to pay the extra money or move to a higher priced plan for them. Getting something like device locks would be great though but then what would device locks do for a customer base? and they do have the data encryption built in....
I would like to see a 16:9 aspect ratio in the next version of the phone myself. A holster pouch w/ belt clip rather than looking for and buying an ill fitting pouch cos I really don't like the pouch it comes with and cant find a nice one. The ability to have more than just the plain 6 applications on the screen, it used to scroll if I remember correctly in the older ones. The ability to skip music tracks when pressing volume up or down. 3.5mm audio jack. Time and date or at least time shown on the top strip of the display when going through the menu (there are a number of time I want to know the time and have to program juggle to find out what it is. More symbols on the other keys rather than just on the right hand side, I do have 2 thumbs available to use and fairly dexterous with either hand.
Less "download - **bleep**" in the web menu it takes me to a link with useless stuff on it.....
That GPS chip needs to be replaced, it has me walking down the road or in my neighbours house when I'm just lying in my lounge.
This wish is for all Nokia Symbian devices, I would love to see a Nokia App store. I'm sure it'll come around once they get the symbian foundation off the ground but i'm impatient and a lil lazy and haven't always got the time to find an application for something I have thought up. Blackberry and Apple have got something of a centralised store up and running, C'mon Nokia! Get a move on!

  • My FinalCut Wish List

My Valentine's gift to Apple's FCP feedback site was the following Wish List (which I figured I'd also post here just for the heck of it).
Some of these feature requests may only apply to my particular -- some might say peculiar -- workflow, but I suspect a few of them might strike a responsive chord with other FinalCutters. (Whether any of them are on Apple's Do List is of course another question.)
    (using FCP 5.1.2 under OX X 10.4.8)
One User's Final Cut Pro Wish List:
(sent to Apple's FinalCut Feedback site, Feb. 14/07)
    An Undo History.
If Final Cut can "remember", say, 10 levels of Undos (or whatever that user pref is set to), then why can't it display an Undo History palette, with brief descriptions of each Undoable action - a la Adobe Photoshop?
The fact that even FCP's Edit Menu just says "Undo" and "Redo" -- with no attempt to even say what it is you're about to Undo or Redo, is really pretty sad.
    A "Learning Mode".
An easy-to-turn on or off mode in which more detailed Hint Dialogs (like Tool Tips on steroids) appear onscreen -- with definitions, suggested uses, possible workflows, even links to the reference manual. All very context-sensitive, and all designed to hold-your-hand and help you understand a new area of the app.
I'm not the least bit too proud to say I would use that mode a LOT (at least when no-one else was looking!).
Option to Auto Scroll the Timeline while in Play.
Likewise for an audio waveform displayed in the Viewer. Is this feature really that hard to implement?
And while we're on the subject of things people have been requesting for a long time now, let's add another chorus for...
Robust, Reliable, User-Friendly and Intuitive Media Management.
Auto Pitch-Correction Option when doing Speed adjustments.
This seems like a no-brainer: just like the "Frame Blending, yes-or-no" checkbox when you Cmd-J to do a speed adjustment, there should be a "Pitch Correct Audio?" checkbox right in the same dialog. It's really very embarrassing that FinalCut still refuses to do this audio function. This is NOT something you should have to transfer into a whole 'nother app to do, or have to apply a special AU Pitch filter to the clip just to try and get it to sound normal again.
    which reminds me...
How about a Round-Tripping to Soundtrack workflow that actually works?
(I've had two Apple Store "Creatives" unable to get it to work properly, and several FCP veterans advise me to just avoid that workflow altogether, at least until it's thoroughly "deflake-ified")
    Better Labelling Options.
Would love a way to apply text labels (and color codes) to Timeline Tracks (in the left-side info pane). For example, so I can add the label "Dialog" to tracks A1 and A2, "Narration" to tracks A3 and A4, "Music" to tracks A5 and A6, etc, -- and then maybe even color-code groups of tracks for quick reference.
And how about a much clearer, user-definable indicator to highlight which window (Browser/Viewer/Timeline) is currently active -- a selectable color for the active title bar (or even framing the entire window) -- instead of the current medium-grey vs. light-grey all against a grey background (not the most dynamic visual cue).
And just as I can color-code Browser icons, I would also like to be able to color-code Timeline tabs -- AND change their left-to-right order simply by dragging.
    Miscellaneous
A few quirky little things I'd like to be able to at least try:
An Option/Preference for the Timeline to be auto-selected when you drag a clip onto it.
An Option to keep a Timeline Zoom-In centered on the playhead position, rather than on the start of a selected clip.
A Poster Frame option for thumbnails in the Timeline (especially if one's been set in the Browser; as opposed to the current first-frame-or-nothing default)
I'd like the ability to Link multiple video items to a single audio item in Timeline, and create a merged clip from that selection (using the audio clip as the "anchor")
And why does the "Delete All markers" command only delete markers from selected clips where the playhead happens to be -- I still can't find a way to delete clip markers from ALL selected clips, regardless of where the playhead is.
I hope that most of these features have already been incorporated into the next release of FinalCut -- and if not, that you'll give serious consideration to implementing them as soon as possible. Your users will thank you.
    John Bertram
    Toronto

    Hi John
This ones a User to User forum, no Apple reps here
Indeed -- hence the opening line of my post:
"My Valentine's gift to Apple's FCP feedback site was the following Wish List" and
"One User's Final Cut Pro Wish List:
(sent to Apple's FinalCut Feedback site, Feb. 14/07)"
Also why I didn't post the letter as a Question actively seeking help. It's simply offered in the spirit of a Mike-Meyers-as-Linda-Richmond "talk amongst yourselves" moment ("I'll give you a topic: Final Cut is never final, but often cutting. Discuss.")
Nevertheless, thanks for the feedback. Further to which...
    A "Learning Mode"
we are our own learning mode right here!
And an invaluable one, to be sure. I just feel that FinalCut could still build in a few extra "stairs" to make its learning curve a bit easier to climb -- stairs which can of course be skipped entirely by the more experienced users.
An Option to keep a Timeline Zoom-In centered on
the playhead position, rather than on the start of a
    selected clip.
If there is no selected clip then the zoom centers on
the playhead. If there is a selected clip then the
zoom centers on the selection. Or just use the zoom
tool (z) and zoom wherever you like. They pretty
much have this one covered, its just a case of using
the right tool at the right time, not just adding
    more tools/options.
This was a small one -- and perhaps one I shouldn't have bothered including. I just personally wouldn't mind a User Pref to the affect of "Timeline zoom (when using Option+=) always centers on Playhead" (the default for which would be Off, but which I in my own world of weirdness would turn On).
I'd like the ability to Link multiple video items to
a single audio item in Timeline, and create a merged
clip from that selection (using the audio clip as the
    "anchor")
Thats called "Nesting". Check out Sequence menu >
    Nest Items...
I've actually been having to do a fair bit of Nesting, often of just individual clips -- to the extent that I now have a Nest Item button in my Timeline button bar.*
What I was looking for here is something a bit different: really just the mirror image of when you have several audio clips Linked to a single video "anchor" clip. It would be in situations where I'm using a continuous chunk of audio to which I sync up bits of short video clips. Some of those video clips are from that same (call it the master) take, while others are from different takes in which the actor spoke a phrase in the same rhythm. In certain situations, I just want to be able to Cmd-L Link ALL those video clips on the Timeline to the one Audio clip, while at the same time not linking other interspersed video clips which are simply cutaways. But I still want all the clips to remain separate and un-nested.
    * Don't know if that explanation makes any sense, but as to the Nesting issue itself: Is there any way to force a Filter effect to be applied AFTER a Motion tab effect? I'm asking because I have a sequence to which I'm applying a Widescreen Matte filter to each clip. (The filter has to be applied to each clip individually to allow for vertical repositioning using the Offset control.) But some of the clips also require a Scale adjustment under the motion tab, increasing the image size to 105 or 110%, for example. In these cases, I find I have to apply the Scale change, then Nest the Clip, THEN apply the Widescreen Matte filter to the nested clip. If I try to do both in the original unnested clip, the Widescreen matte gets applied first, then that entire matted image is Scaled to whatever % I've chosen -- and that obviously changes the apparent size of the matte onscreen.
While you can easily change the order in which different Filters get applied to a clip, I've yet to find a way to change the order in which Filter effects vs. Motion tab effects are applied. Maybe I'll post this issue as an actual Question in a new thread.
Meantime, I hope that clarifies a couple of the quirkier items on my FinalCut WIsh List.
    Cheers,
    John Bertram

  • Is there a way to access my wish list in iTunes from my iPad

Is there a way to access my wish list in iTunes from my iPad

I'm asking the same sort of question in another thread. I had access to my wish list on my ipad2 but now I can't seem to find it. Dammed frustrating.

  • Oracle 11g express --- Wish list --- Match or beat IBM and Microsoft

Oracle's significant competitors IBM and Microsoft have had support for XSLT and XQuery in their express editions for a while. My wish-list for Oracle 11g express is to match it or even beat it. With increasing adoption of XML a lot of innovation is happening. Oracle is a no-show here.
I had to switch to DB2 from Oracle to be able to take advantange of the IBM Db2 express. Along the way, I will end up purchasing their high-end DB2 offering also.
    Later ...
    /rk

I see Oracle in a dilemma here.
Oracle 11g SE One Processor Perpetual costs $5,800 - dillute this over 3 years and you have a VERY GOOD database for a VERY affordable price. For small shops, this is a no-brainer over Standard Edition.
But alas, suppose 11g XE supports 2 CPUs, 2 GB of RAM and 20 GB of storage!
Let's think about it. A fast, robust, mature, fully-featured database - for FREE. But wait, there's more - APEX is FREE as well.
XE and APEX make a killer combo. XE's hard-coded limits are cumbersome, but creative DBAs/developers manage to create impressive solutions nonetheless. Without Oracle making a single dollar in licenses.
Simply put, I think 11g XE with 2 CPUs, 2GB RAM and 20 GB of storage would take away customers from Oracle - those currently buying Oracle 11g SE One Processor Perpetual. OK, XE comes with no support, but still, $0 is less than $5,800. The difference is even more significant in a scenario of economic downturn.
It will be interesting to see how Oracle handles this.

Hi, Oracle's significant competitors IBM and Microsoft, is true.
But Oracle does not seem to care because the niche is selling software. However, when entering the world of the express editions should confront its closest competitors by relaxing the limits on Oracle Database XE, remove certain restrictions to be at the level of competence DB2 Expreess C 9.5 which has no storage limits and uses up 2 processors and 2GB of RAM.
As someone suggested in another thread, it is possible that Oracle Database XE is the leader of the Express editions, but must improve, I think it would be best to enter the world of the MacOS and relax the limits of storage, memory and CPU. We must offer competitive!.

  • New iTunes "wish" list function Removed

I'm hoping somone might be able to offer a suggestion to help get my workflow back since the new iTunes 11 release has removed my most useful feature.
I am a DJ and spend a good 6-8 hours a week creating playlist, partly managing the music I own and partly locating songs in the itunes store.   What I used to do:  If I didn't own a song, I'd locate it in the itunes store, drag it into a general playlist where I could move it around (unpurchased) to other playlists and when I was done I could go through my playlist and purchase the songs that I wanted to. Many people never knew this was possible. This streamlined the process and allowed me to give the boot to songs that I didn't think were worth the purchase (when purchasing 20-40 songs a week, every $1.29 counts!)    I learned of this function from apple years ago... They didn't promote it much, but it was a function they built in to allow people to do just what I did... create a list and then purchase the songs.
The new itunes does not seem to support creating these "wish lists" on my desktop... I know about the wishlist feature that is store based.  The problem is that I only have the ability to have ONE wishlist... when I need at least three to keep my music organized for my upcoming events. I still have the older version installed on my main computer, but I know I'm going to have to make the leap soon and know the loss of this functionality is going to be extremely stiffling to my productivity.
Any assistance, tricks, ideas, etc would be welcome and appreciated!!

I figured out a workaround and posted it in this thread - https://discussions.apple.com/message/20751126#20751126
It is kind of a hassle, but at least you can still put songs in your own wishlists.

  • ITunes Store "Add to Wish List" missing running iTunes 10.7 Mac

I'm hoping this gets corrected. I'm seeing this in other discussions too.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20560910#20560910

Yep, just noticed the same problem and posted in the other thread applejack1963 linked to. I didn't even know there was a new version 11 of iTunes, but I definitely don't want to upgrade. iTunes 9.2.1 runs slow enough as it is on my old Mac, so the last thing I need is a newer version that I imagine will just slow my computer down even more. Has anyone upgraded to version 11, and noticed that the "Add to Wish List" option reappears?

  • ITunes 9-- No "Shopping Cart",  "Wish List"  a poor substitute!

I miss greatly the easy functionality of the iTunes8 "Shopping Cart".
iT9's "Wish List" lacks SC's functionality and ease of use.
Has anyone who valued the iT8 Shopping Cart's functionality found a way to approach it in iT9?
I haven't and really miss it-- but maybe I just haven't figured WL out yet?
There seem to be two ways to populate your Wish List:
    1. use the drop down menu beside the "Buy" button in iTunes Store, or
    2. drag your song to your own Wish List album (i.e. an album you create with that name).
#1 method I have found to be incredibly frustrating:
    a. It took my a long time to figure out how to access that WL (iT Help was silent about this).
Answer: from iTunes Store's home screen, hold mouse over your user name in upper right hand corner of home screen and an arrow for a drop-down list appears including Wish List. The resulting list had my new songs in it and a bunch that seemed to have come from iT8 (I maintained a "Shopping List album to back up my SL because periodically it became inaccessible and I had trouble getting Apple to reset it for me) but it is really unpleasant to use, especially if you have a lot of songs there. If you are trying to access the most recent songs added, it is especially cumbersome-- it's divided up into pages and the song list sub-window, within the main window, goes off the bottom of my iMac 24" screen. Therefoer, you have to scroll down to get to the song list sub-window and then scroll again within that sub-window because the song list's page isn't fully shown and you have to scroll down within it to even see all songs on that one page. Then, Worse yet, the song list is into multiple pages, each of which requires a click to see content. You cannot get an overview within your own WL. Even more frustrating, every time you buy a song, this awkward display reverts to the first line of the first page which causes you to have to go thru this whole process all over again. Ugh.
#2. The 2nd method of making your own Wish List album is better, but still requires you to deal with the awful scrolling window within a scrolling window. I can't get any large overview of the various arrangements of a song that I am searching for. iT9's approach makes me feel awkward and blind compared to iT8. To populate your WL album, you must individually drag each song into a relatively small album accurately and one at a time. This is a pain vs. just double clicking on it in iT8 to add it to my SC. Once you've got the songs you want in your WL, you can see and sort them much like you could in the old SC. So the real problem I'm encountering here is the basic way that iT9 is designed to display music search results-- what I call scrolling windows within scrolling windows. I tried using the view menu to make it the kind of sweeping view that iT8 offered, but nothing seemed to improve the view.
Has anyone else found a work-around to recover the functionality lost in replacing SC's with WL's? Any user tips would be greatly appreciated! I used to really enjoy perusing iT8 and comparing varying artists/arrangements of the same song and this has become really unpleasant in iT9. I love iOS4 for my iPhone 3G though and had to update to iT9 for that. Too bad there's such a trade-off required!

This was discussed ad nauseum when iTunes 9 first came out months ago. If you search the discussions (using the Search Discussions box above and to the right), you'll probably find some of the myriad threads on the subject.
    Best of luck.

  • AFTER EFFECTS WISH LIST (Prior to Sept 09)

    AFTER EFFECTS WISHLIST
What features would you like to see implemented in After Effects? New ideas for plugins? Interface changes? Post 'em here!
Let's keep bug identification to individual posts, as these will probably be addressed more readily. Let's use this thread for specific ideas about ways that AE can be improved and expanded.
These Forums are for users, not Adobe employees, so don't forget to also fill in an  Adobe feature request form.
To view the Wish List posts prior to 2008, look here.

    sort out 3gb ram limit.
multi-processing for more than 6 processors.
aforementioned 3d camera interface issues that haven't been sorted in at least 8 years. WTF?
    Intelligent caching of rendered layers.
Select all render and output settings, file destination in render queue.
Be able to turn off that thing where you double click on a layer and it opens the footage window. Anyone using that footage window much?
Ability to precomp 3d layers together and continuously rasterize. And everything work. Adjustment layers, etc not to split up 3d comps in depth order. Specific layer to do this instead.
Just don't bother with the node view thing unless it's useful. Imitation Flame thing from years ago. We all asked for it. And got something different. No one uses it. Do they?
Import 3d models. Actual use of opengl for realtime fx.
Decent colour grading tool. Not color finesse bundle. Or buying something. Even levels and HSB together would save a little time.
Really not hard. Channel mixer anyone?
Import XML file. Instead of buying auto duck. How about adobe buy auto duck instead?
Silky smooth playback to broadcast monitor.
Instead of node-based view of project. How about node based view of expressions a la quartz composer /c4d xpresso.
Import midi files as keyframe data.
    Exponential scale as keyframe setting.
Mask feathering with separate bezier for feathering. YES.
Not crashing quite so much on my 8core.
XYZ position editing as separate channels.

  • Next Thinkstation wish list

    Hi folks,
Lenovo is pretty innovative stuff, I think we can all agree
As the Thinkpad is "inspired by customers", let's see if we could try and inspire Lenovo's system builders for the next generation of Thinkstation's to come, no doubt pretty soon given Intel has already come out with the Xeon E7 and has published their roadmap for the upcoming Xeon E5 which is expected later this year.
Ok, I'll try and start it off with what base configuration I would like available in at least one upcoming model.
    ====== Wish List ======
    - Dual E5's; Romley-EP / Romley-WS; Sandy Bridge-EP/LGA2011;Socket R
    - USB 3.0
    - Far wider choice of Lenovo approved graphics cards, i.e. place just as much importance on "desktop" graphics cards as    "workstation" cards.
    - Scale down pr/selling importance of "ISV certified", or "certify for ISV's" after initial release(s) of systems...
    - Wide range of SLI and Crossfire options
    - System designed straight from the factory to accommodate wide range of third party air or watercooling and fans for the cpu's, chipset, ram and video cards (i.e. boards pre-drilled to accommodate easy cpu watercooling backplates...)
-PCI 3.0 already comes with the chipset, so we're ok already with this
    - Minimum of 3 PCI slots free
    - Built in GPS tracking chip and not just software like Lojack- if workstation is stolen, it can be found.
    - Edit -
    Adding
    - UEFI, or Utensible Firmware Interface in lieu of BIOS
    - Far faster POSTing
I think that's a fair start - correct me if I am wrong, and feel free to add your ideas!
Let's see how much Lenovo really listens

Erik's making a good point....these are workstations first and foremost, and not converted gaming systems.  I can comment on some of these...
USB 3.0 - couldn't agree more, however Intel is not making this easy.  They'd much rather push their own lightpeak technology, but the industry isn't going to ignore USB3.
GFX - Don't really see us going after desktop cards.  GFX is the single biggest differentiator between desktop class systems and workstations.  Also, we have to be selective about which cards and how many cards we try to qualify.  Each additional card drives a LOT of work on our side, and this can quickly become very expensive.
ISVs - what you stated just won't happen.  ISV certs really drive workstations.  If anything, we'd like to concentrate even more on ISVs, but resources are always limited.
SLI - this is actually a VERY tiny portion of our current business.  No reason not to expect SLI to continue though since it's supported on current platforms.
Cooling - Most people take our cooling solutions for granted.  Given they aren't always the most sexy looking approach, it generally is very effective.  We generally beat our competitors with lower acoustics, and the thermal solutions are directly responsible for that.  In an area where cost is king, what you're describing adds a lot of cost to every base system and it would only be used by less than 1% of our customers.  Not to say we ignore this area, but most ideas generally get killed quickly due to cost concerns.
PCI - industry is moving away from PCI, so I wouldn't expect an increase in the number of PCI slots.
GPS - we've actually looked at some stuff like this before, but the reality is the chances of somebody walking off with a 60lb workstation are somewhat slim.  I actually went after a patent for something along these lines with workstation security and it got quite the chuckle from the patent review board.
RAID - we are exploring lots of new options with RAID support.  Obviously can't get into details, but based on other comments I've seen in the forums, I think we'll be able to make more of our customers (both budget and power users) happy.
This is a great thread topic.  Obviously we'd love to see any and all ideas or suggestions.  We can't accomodate everything, but it's always good to get the creative juices flowing.
