X230, Touch pen stop working intermittently

I have a thinkpad tablet X230. I use this tablet for work. When using the touch pen it randomly stops working and sometimes when I close the lid and it goes into sleep mode and reopen the pen starts working again, but not all the time, sometimes I have to reboot the system to get the pen functioning again. This problem is not all the time, I can work sometimes 4 or 5 days with out a problem, but it is annoying. Can anyone help me with this so I can resolve this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have a bit more information which really makes the problem seem odd.  There seem to be a few more things that stop functioning along with pen/touch. Here is a list of what functions and what doesn't when the issue arises.
Not working:
 - All pen/touch input
 - Screen rotate button
 - "circular arrow" button beside screen rotate
 - the sensor that senses the closing of the lid (the display stays lit when lid is closed and doesn't sleep automatically)
 - rear-facing (battery and sleep) LEDs.
 - front-facing WIFI LED
Things that continue to function:
 - The display itself
 - fingerprint reader
 - webcam, microphone and speakers
 - on-display power button
 - front-facing HDD access light
The last two are very peculiar since they are on the same physical board as the two non-functioning buttons and the rear and WIFI LEDS which don't work.  I have no idea what is wrong.  It can't be a connection issue as starting and stopping of the problem coincides with power-ons/offs.
Please help me!

  • X230, All touch/pen input functions stop working intermittently

    Hello,
Ever since I got my x230 tablet (used), the pen/touch input intermittently stops working.  It never happens when I'm using it, but when I either power down the tablet or resume from sleep, the touch and the pen will not function.  The rotate button also doesn't work when the issue occurs, but the power button on the screen still functions. The fingerprint reader always works.
Once it stops working, there's no way for me to get the touch/pen input back.  If I reboot, usually it remains not working.  Pulling the battery out and waiting doesn't have any effect either; when I turn it back on it still doesn't work.  The only thing that works is to wait...sometimes a day, sometimes an hour, and eventually the touch/pen starts working again after a reboot (or resume from standby).
I thought it might be a driver issue, but the issue is independent of operating system.  When it works, it works in Windows 7, 8.1 and Linux Mint.  When it doesn't work, it doesn't work across all three.
I've read of others having similiar issues, but every other occurence that I saw was fixed by a reboot...my problem isn't consistently.
Any help would be appreciated, as I love this machine when it works, but it's really useless when it doesn't (as I have another Lenovo laptop that has better specs than the tablet)

  • Touch input not working intermittently

I have been using my Winpad 110W for over two months now. Lately the Touch input started to stop working intermittently especially after resuming from hibernation or from cold boot. I have to use the virtual keyboard by using the mouse or attach a USB keyboard to login. Under Windows 7 64bit property field will indicate the Pen and Touch field do not have Pen or Touch Input detected or found. In Device Manager the Microsoft Input under HIDs also missing. I tried to rescan for drivers and etc but still not working.
I have to reboot the Windpad a couple of times and then suddenly it will start working. Ihave the latest drivers, firmware, bios and softwares.
    Anybody experiencing similiar problems?
I have also found from my supplier that they are starting to sell the Docking Station NOE111W for $180AUD.

I have noticed this happening when in sunlight or under bright lights. The little mouse pad is the culprit, cover it up and you should be able to work with the touch screen just fine.

  • Yoga 13 touch screen stopped working after update KB3000850, please help!

Hi, my Yoga 13 touch screen has been working fine until yesterday. The laptop came with Windows 8, and last year I upgraded to Windows 8.1 without issue. Yesterday, I installed optional update KB3000850 from Windows Update, and immediately the touch screen stopped working. I have tried the following methods, all without success:
    * Uninstall KB3000850 from Windows Update
    * Use Windows Restore to restore to the point before yesterday
    * Re-install Intel Chipset Driver from Lenovo official driver page
    * In Device Manager, uncheck all the "allow system to turn off to save power" options for the USB input devices under Human Interface Devices then restart
    * Two-button shutdown and restart
    * Install Lenovo Driver Manager and let it check for new drivers
    * Download Cando multi touch panel driver (Note: I could not install the driver because all I got was a .cab file which does not allow me to install)
As of now my touch screen is still not working. Computer Information page from Settings shows that there is no touch or pen device for my screen.
Can anybody help me with this? Thanks!

Very true, this has been a known problem since the first day Lenovo released the Yoga 13.
I need to send Lenovo a bill for my time spent rebooting.  So far i am on my 8th reboot.  In the past, around 5 reboots after winddows update would work.  This time... who knows.
Of course it always happens when you have a deadline.
Please post back if you have found a better soultion than system restore.
Thanks for posting this issue.  More users need to bring this to Lenovo's attention.

  • Touch Screen Stops Working Sometimes on TouchSmart tm2

I have a TouchSmart tm2-2052nr running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. The last couple of days, my touch screen (and the pen) stop working. Restarting the computer usually fixes the problem, but not always. After switching the view or closing the laptop is when the problem occurs the most.
I have tried various things to try and fix this on my own, but I am stumped now. This includes doing a system restore to before when I started to notice the problem, running virus scans, and reinstalling the Wamcom Digitizer Pen driver (sp48676).
I have recently replaced my hard drive and therefore have done a complete system recovery. I have removed several programs and installed others, but nothing that had been different from before my hard drive crashed. Most recently since the crash I had installed Microsoft Office Pro, Adobe CS3, and Adobe Digital Editions. I uninstalled Skype, HP User Guides 0173, and HP QuickWeb Installer. A lot of the TouchSmart apps have also been removed except for the DVD one and Paint It!
My restore points also list "HP Configured" around the time I uninstalled the TouchSmart apps, but I don't know what this all entails.
I should also note that when the TouchScreen stops working, a lot of the drivers under "Human Interface Devices" in the Device Manager go missing.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I actually did read that and step through it. It did not help.
However, I think I may have found the solution. Because this is a problem of inconsistency, I cannot say 100% that the following solution works, but so far I have not had any problems.
    1. Make sure the touchscreen is working. If not, shut down the computer and start it again until the touchscreen works.
    2. Go to the device manager. Look under "Human Interface Devices" for some sort of USB drivers. There should be two (2). These are the problem children. (If the touchscreen is not working, these two drivers will not even show up, hence the reason for restarting the computer in step one)
    3. Right-click on one and select "Update Driver Software". Let it run its course and select "Okay" when it is done. You will notice that the name of the driver changes.
    4. Repeat for the other "USB" driver.
After the driver software is updated, the names should be "Wacom Gesture Touch" and "Wacom Pen".
Like I said, I am not positive yet that this is the fix, but so far so good. After a few days, I will let everyone know either way.

  • Bonjour Stops Working Intermittently After 7.3.1 Firmware Update

After updating the firmware on my Airport Extreme to 7.3.1, Bonjour seems to stop working intermittently. This affects both the 802.11N (MacBook, white Intel iMac, and aluminum Intel iMac) and 802.11G (MacBook) clients on my WLAN. I also connect to the AP with an iPod touch and a Wii. All the Macs are running 10.5.2.
Cycling the power on the router seems to fix the problem for a while.
Here's a snippet that might be related from my system log:
    Apr 15 18:56:25 Jiminy mDNSResponder[16]: SetupAddr invalid sa_family 0
    Apr 15 18:56:26: --- last message repeated 1 time ---
The only other network-related change that I have made recently is playing WoW.
    Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same problem, btw. My AEBS 7.3.1 routinely loses all Bonjour support. Restarting the base station or power-cycling are the only fixes. I don't think the issue is on the Leopard side, but I'll reboot my laptop the next time it happens just to be sure.
Bonjour for Windows creates a JetDirect-style printer connection if I recall correctly. So after using it to discover and setup a new printer, it wouldn't really matter anymore if it suddenly disappeared. I'd have to double-check this to be sure, though.
On that note, I would recommend using JetDirect-style connections on your Mac, too, since bonjour connections are notoriously flaky for large print jobs like printing 8x10 photos.

  • Why did my brand new Ipod 5g 32gb touch screen stop working?

So I got this ipod from the Genius Shop for about a month. A few days ago when IOS 7.1 came out, I updated it. However, the ipod seems to lag a little. Today, I was charging my ipod and for some reason, when I turn it on, the touch screen stop working (the ipod is in perfect condition). The home button, volume button and the on/off button all works fine except for the touch screen. I want to restore everything on my computer, but I can't get pass the lock screen (the touch screen seems to stop working). I just can't do anything on this ipod anymore beside turning it on and off. I can't even power it off because the touch screen is no longer touchable. So how can I restore everything, or do something about this ipod to work again. Can I still take this back to the Genius Shop and get another one without additonal charge?

If the reset does not work try the remaining items of:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My iPod touch suddenly stopped working. It was fine earlier, but when I went back a few hours later, the screen had gone black and I was unable to turn it on. It is now unresponsive and my computer does not recognize it when it is plugged in. I thought it just needed to be charged but there seems to be a larger issue now. What should I do?

Let your ipod die. Then when it is dead charge it adn turn it back on. After that it should be fine.

  • Why did my touch screen stop working?

Very upset my touch screen stopped working on phone new years eve.  What could be wrong??

        flakris,
Oh no! This is not what we like to hear. I want to make sure that we are able to get your phone back up and running. Is there any kind of physical or liquid damage to the device? Can you try to press and hold the Power and Volume Down buttons until the device powers off then release (approximately 10 seconds). Please keep us posted.

  • My iPod touch screen stopped working, how do i fix it?

My iPod(4th generation) touch screen stopped working. Okay so it was fine earlier, my home button does not work so i have been using the assistive button for months, and until earlier today it got stuck, i tried to power it off but it doesn't let me slide to power it off, and it doesn't let me press anything on the assistive menu either, and i'm currently waiting for my ipod to die but it's taking forever since it's battery lasts forever! is there any other solutions you can give me?
and i was wondering if my ipod has life insurance with apple so if something is wrong with the screen, can i take it for a new one? (my ipod is in very good conditions, not cracked or scratched, just the home button is an issue)
    thanks!

Try restoring via iTunes. If necessary. try placing the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs and then restore:
    For PC
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    If necessary:
    Download QTMLClient.dll & iTunesMobileDevice.dll for RecBoot
    and
    RecBoot tip
RecBoot may have problems on 64X windows, then try:
Tenorshare ReiBoot – Enter & Exit iPhone, iPad, iPod Recovery Mode with a Single ClickFor MAC or PC
    The Firmware Umbrella - TinyUmbrella
    Installs blootware on PC too

  • Ipod nano 6th gen touch screen stopped working please help

Everything on the ipod nano 6th gen is working except the touch screen and once it goes to sleep i have to hold the sleep button and the volume down button to turn it back on. I went into the volume -, sleep, volume + menu and went through the tests and in the touch panel error check section it says i have IC error reported: 0xFFFFFFFF. Please help as i have reset and restored and update itunes etc. Do i need to send it in to apple? The touch screen was working at one stage and then i disconected from the computer while it said eject first (this is when the touch screen stopped working) and put the ipod on a different computer. The first computer was windows 7 which i used just to charge it a little and the second one im using is windows vista.

I have had the same problem and changed three Nano's. Each time the fault is diagnosed by Apple as "water damage".
If you take your Nano to one of their maintenance centres they will look into either the headphone socket or the power dock and and tell you that you have infringed the warranty by somehow getting the thing wet.
Basically is a poorly designed piece of kit whereas a simple shuffle is way more robust.
I have given up with my Nano and am now using an old model

  • Multi-touch gestures stop working?

Apple, there is an annoying bug in Mountain Lion that needs to be fixed.  Sometimes when we wake our computers from sleep, multi-touch gestures stop working.  The problem is related to the Dock.  Restarting the dock by typing "killall Dock" into Terminal and hitting return provides a temporary resolution, but the problem will eventually return.  There are several other posts in this forum and others.  Seems like there should be an easy fix to what is the only complaint I currently have with your new operating system.
    Thanks.
